Yay! I finally got a villain to fully switch sides and become a hero on the beta server. (Darn bugs kept getting in my way.) Now I know I can get Nerima Girl to the hero side when Going Rogue goes live.
I would say now that my Ice/Energy blaster Shatterer Arare is most likely to switch from hero to villain. She was a merge of an ice-based hero and an energy-based villain in the first place, and her powersets are redundant with a couple of my other heroes. -
Quote:You're going to be very busy here if you're going to keep correcting people on their links. If you would look at the page linked in the OP, you'd see at the end "Source: The LA Times Hero Complex". One doesn't need a Ph.D. to cut and paste one more line or, for that matter, click through and get the original article (which, incidentally, has much more detail about Vaughn's opinions).
A person finds an interesting article on a site he/she frequently visits. The person posts a link to that article, thinking others here might be interested. The person does not care about further researching the topic, and so does not bother tracking down the original source. If others here want to look into it further, they can do the research themselves. This is quite normal and understandable.
This is not a professional debate society here. It's a bunch of geeks talking about stuff. -

I don't care for open world gameplay. I much prefer instanced missions, where I don't have to worry about interference from other players. It annoys me when I have to wait my turn to go after a certain objective, or see the objective that I'm about to complete rudely grabbed by another player.
And there are the times when many players decide to clump together in large numbers for whatever reason, and horrendous lag develops. A lot of people seem to like being cattle in a glaring multicolored slideshow, but I don't. -
It's easy to overestimate the damage output of the mastermind pets, because the mastermind can sit back in relative safety while the pets attack. But paying close attention, it certainly seems to me that my blasters blow through enemies much more quickly than my masterminds. (But at much greater personal risk.)
I'm also thinking of moving a blaster to the villain side, but not really because of the damage potential. My Ice/Energy blaster is a bit redundant with my Ice/Ice and Energy/Energy blasters. She wouldn't be as redundant if she was doing the villain-side missions from a blaster perspective. -

Quote:Yes, I've thought about it. It would improve the situation for Mind/ controllers too. Other ATs besides dominators and controllers wouldn't really be affected. Why would my scrappers care whether elite bosses have PToD or not? Show me a balance issue that I've missed. You say that the removal of PToD on EBs would fix the issue for Dominators, and it very well may. Have you given any thought to how this will affect the balance (either positive or negative) for the other archetypes though? Have you thought about what may be necessary to bring those archetypes back into balance?
Quote:The box itself is, of course, PToD. PToD is currently aligned fine with the other ATs, why change it?
There may very well be a considerable software problem in removing the PToDs. We don't know. The devs have always refused to comment on the problem, for some reason. I don't assume that it would be easy. But as far as I can tell, the problem for dominators would be removed by removing the PToD for elite bosses. A simple idea, but not necessarily a simple fix. -
Quote:Not all that many. But I'm one of them. I love my dominators. They match my play style. I just don't fight PToD elite bosses with them. The problem may lie in one simple fact--Dominators do not match your play style. That's not saying it's your (BI's) fault or a lack of skill on your part. Obviously, there are other ATs that you do well with, so you obviously have an understanding of game mechanics. It's not a flaw in the design of Dominators or the existence of PToD either. There are players who play them and enjoy playing them.
You seem to be saying that since some people enjoy playing them, there is no problem, and that anyone who has an issue with the dominator weakness against PToD simply has a different play style. I disagree. The PToD issue can be fixed... by getting rid of the PToD for EBs. There really is no reason for having PToD on EBs that I can see. They actually make the PToD EBs more protected against control powers than AVs, since EBs start with some control protection. Fix this problem, and more people might play dominators.
I'm thinking of having my Ill/Kin controller switch sides, just so I have a good EB killer with a control primary on the villain side. -
- Full screen mode.
- TV usually on.
- Solo.
- Mission oriented, especially story arcs. I need plot to immerse myself.
- Altitis. I don't have long play sessions with any given character. -
Quote:Personally, I would say that the PToD on elite bosses needs to go away. Increasing the Dom damage would make them overpowered against all other opponents, factoring in their control abilities, so that would be a bad thing.So... then what I hear you saying is that a Dom needs more damage... not that the PToD should go away?
I'll face PToD elite bosses now and then with my blasters. I just finished wiping out all the Praetorian EBs (except Shadowhunter) with my Ice/Ice blaster. But I won't bother fighting PToD EBs with my dominators. -

I just logged out, and my updater immediately started up a 672M download. Pre-load for Going Rogue? I use the question mark because I haven't pre-ordered, but I assume they'd need to download stuff for everybody.
Gah. Wrong forum section. I meant to put it in the General section. Sorry. -
Nerima Girl is a Natural Stone/Energy Brute, now level 42. She's a martial artist who has the strange ability to pull mallets seemingly out of thin air. She's basically a good person, but she can be very destructive. Her life after leaving Japan has been an endless stream of misunderstandings, compounded by the fact that she doesn't understand English very well. If it's feasible for my characters to switch sides, then Nerima Girl will be the first to do so.
As far as heroes go, I have a few who might fall victim to some evil brainwashing, but most are solidly heroic. -

1200-1400 passengers? Does it come with a swimming pool and bowling alley?
Nothing bad could happen to a vehicle that depends on the rationality and responsibility of the drivers underneath it. -
Well, that manages to wipe out most of the stuff I was interested in, including my last pick. I think I'll be flipping coins a lot for the rest of the draft...
