As long as we had the option to opt-in to that system (I suppose opt-out would be okay too, though i really think it should be opt-in), that'd be pretty awesome. Maybe we could also customize the lines the character would say during the fight (within censor filter limits, of course), to help further personalize it.

    Question, then.

Currently our In-Game Email filtering options only allow us to limit emails to people on our per-character server Friends list and Supergroup members. With this change, will the filter be updated to limit based on Global Friends instead of each character's server Friends list, or at least give us the option to allow emails from anyone on our Global Friends list as well?
  3. From what I remember when chatting with devs at HeroCon, as you approach the edge of a zone in Praetoria, it begins to dynamically load geometry within your draw distance from the adjacent zone, so that you're actually looking into the next zone, as opposed to the relatively-featureless buildings beyond the war walls you see in Paragon, etc. Then once you hit the actual barrier, you get a shortened load screen while it loads the rest of the necessary zone data.

I do hope it means we can get glowing bits in the future, however.

The preposterous sense of entitlement people can have never ceases to amaze me.
While there is, indeed, an amazing sense of entitlement in today's players, I don't think this particular case is necessarily the best one to play that card in.

Consider that the costume pieces for one of other NPC factions in Going Rogue, the Praetorian Clockwork, _are_ unlockable for players. Given that the Clockwork are siding (presumably) with the Loyalists, the idea that the Resistance's power armor would be unlockable for players isn't that far of a stretch.

An assumption on our part? Yes, and perhaps an unwarranted one.

A "preposterous sense of entitlement"? Not so much.

That's just my opinion though, however wrong it may or may not be.
  5. Given that the Praetorian Clockwork NPCs' costume pieces are unlockable for PCs, I'm wagering that the Resistance pieces will be too.

To which I just have to say: OMG YES PLZ K THX. That Resistance armor set looks _amazing_.

I also love the architecture in the tunnel screenshot, too. It looks really neat. I can't wait to go running around in those tunnels.

  6. Wow! Congrats to all the new hires, and double congrats to War Witch. I know we'll be in good hands with you as Design Lead.

Very much looking forward to hearing more about Going Rogue, and let the insane speculation begin w/re: "End Game" system and "secret initiatives".
  7. Oh man... thinking of the relationship diagram for all of my characters makes my brain hurt.

Several of my characters know each other or know _of_ each other, but I try to keep it so that they only find out about them through the normal flow of RP. I may have a new character in an SG affiliated with one of my other characters in another SG, and have friends who interact with both, but if the name doesn't come up, they don't know of them.

    Some examples though:

My main (Kat/Regen scrapper) has an evil clone (DB/WP brute) who's not quite the same person, and they definitely know each other.
I have a MA/SR scrapper who's the sister of my main.
I have a Invuln/SS tank who's a family friend of my main and her sister. They all know about the evil clone.

My main knows _of_ my illu/emp controller through a mutual friend in another SG. That character knows my elec/elec scrapper as they're part of the same SG, but has never come up in conversation with my main so she doesn't know them...

Sometimes I think about making a spreadsheet to keep track of it all. Then my brain starts hurting again and I move on to other things. Having 24 characters (and counting) isn't a job, it's a nightmare.
  8. Happy Holidays to you all as well Niv, Em, Ocho, Avatea and everyone else at Paragon Studios! Looking forward to the new year and more fun to come in City of Heroes!

Not at all - Your Radeon X1650 will continue to work just fine with City of Heroes... just not with Ultra Mode. Just as a reminder: Ultra Mode is not mandatory! Going Rogue will be playable just fine without it.

I predict it's another case of minimizing the necessary animation work. BABs has stated they're doing this in their spare time around everything else they're doing... the backwards run animation is seperate from the forward run animation, so it's easier if they just rotate the character to face the camera and keep the forward walk animation.

Personally, I like it. Sometimes I want to see the front of my character, and this beats having to pan the camera around to do it.
  11. I, as with many of my fellow players, greatly appreciate all the hard work and effort you and your crew put in, BABs. Our characters are even more customizable and able to be more personalized than ever, and that says a lot. It brings our visions for our characters even closer to the ideal in our heads and makes them that much more enjoyable to play.

You accomplished a monumental task in a fairly short amount of time, and it shows the talent and dedication City of Heroes has supporting it in its devs. The best for our game is yet to come, and I'm satisfied we have the talent to get there.

Oh, and your guy who codes in Python gets extra kudos - Python is awesome!
  12. Memory check...

I noticed in the screenshots from that article that the villain (assuming it's a villain) with claws in one of the shots has his claws coming out from between his fingers, instead of being attached to the top like I remember Claws being.

Have I just forgotten this option? Or is this a new visual style for Claws?
  13. Y'know, that brings up a question I've always wondered what the reason behind was.

Why is it litre (centre, etc) in Canada/UK, but liter (center, etc) in the US? Why the flip?
  14. Avatars didn't port over... and the URL sanitizer doesn't allow tildes, so people with home directory public HTML hosting on UNIX servers can't post their avatars. Like me ;_; At least, I can't find anything else wrong with http://progeny.isu.edu/~buckminst/coh/mikuruneko.jpg

not yet, maybe in a future passes, but pools, epics and patrons are not going to be in i16. check sm's posts, it was his second to last one in this thread, apparently this is from posi's mouth.

    [/ QUOTE ]
They will not be in I16 at release. They intend to extend customization to these powers as well, but they want to get the base powerset customization out to the players first.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is it? I have not heard a statement that EATs and VEATs will be getting the customization bling-out in the future, just not at i16.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I interpreted this to mean:

pools - Normal pool sets, like Fitness, Medicine, Super Speed, etc.

epics - Epic Pool Powers, also referred to as Ancillary Pool Powers, such as Munitions Mastery, Fire Mastery, et al.

patrons - Patron Pool Powers (eg Black Widow, Scirocco... )

HEATs and VEATs aren't listed for customization for I16 as you already know, and I haven't seen any posts myself indicating otherwise at a later date.
  16. I think Ghost Widow might have some competition now for most lusted-after signature bad babe.

<snip>Wait a minute, would this be editing the game? If so, isn't that against the EULA? Please correct me on this point if I'm wrong.
    <snip>

    [/ QUOTE ]

This issue was covered back when Leandro first introduced the City of Heroes Splasher. Direct editing of the game's files is indeed considered a violation of the EULA. The method used by Leandro and also by the Quick Menu customization, however, is not. In the case of the quick menu edit, you are not changing the quick menu file as stored inside the game files - you are utilizing a debugging feature of the game that allows you to specify _overrides_ to in-game files client-side. When placed in the appropriate directory, the City client goes "Oh, I should ignore the bundled version and try this one instead." It must be named exactly correct, and stored in the exactly correct directory structure for it to work, but it works without modifying the game files as provided by NCsoft in any way shape or form, and thus is not a violation of the EULA.
  19. *glee* What a wonderful chance to get some sticky points cleared up! Thank you Manticore!

I have a couple questions regarding Kheldian physiology:

    1) When a Kheldian "moves in"/merges/bonds with a host, does that act permanently alter their host in tangible ways, such as their DNA? In the Shadowstar epic arc "An Absence of Shadows", Lars Mendelson mentions he can still feel Altered Umbra out there after *spoiler*, so it seems there's at least a telepathic link, but was Lars physically changed by his merging with the Warshade Altered Umbra, and if so are physical changes from merging with a Kheldian permanent?

    2) We learn in "Shadow Science" that Galaxy and Quantum units (especially Void Hunters) are made from N-Fragments which are either broken-down fragments of weak Nictus or fragments made through other means. Is this solely a Nictus thing or are the Peacebringer Kheldians capable of the same "fragmentation"?
  20. [ QUOTE ]
This is a bit misleading. You can chose 2 powersets that include almost all powersets available to players, but you can mix-match them in ways not available to players. (Ex: Fire Blast + Invulnerability ).

Not as great of a bullet point, I know. We would love to expand this system further, but we cannot by release.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's alright, pohsyb. I'll just keep hoping we get access to Kheld powers eventually. But being able to mix and match from powersets that normall wouldn't go together will be fairly interesting in its own right and let us generate some truly unique foes.

    Thanks for the answer!
  21. I just have a couple quick question. I know Castle had mentioned earlier (some weeks prior to today) that some powers wouldn't be available, such as SoA and Kheldian powersets... however the Massively article has this as a bulletpoint:

    [ QUOTE ]
Give enemies any powers you want. (Emphasis added)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Has the position stated by Castle earlier changed? Or are Kheldian powersets still unavailable for custom minions? Is there any chance, if they are NOT being included now, that they WILL be included reasonably soon in the future? One of my arc ideas necessitates access to the Warshade powersets.

(*hopes that they WILL be available!*)
  22. Haven't checked the whole thread but I see that many of my wants are already said, so consider them all seconded.

I do have something I want to add as a request though... and if it's been mentioned already, again consider it seconded: Destroyed items / textures.

Something kinda like the old SG bases in Faultline, only moreso - burst steam pipes, dangling, sparking wires, scorched panels, broken flooring, cracks in the walls exposing conduit, smashed computer terminals, mainframes with chunks blasted out of them, etc...

Stuff that thematically would make it seem like you live in a run-down, destroyed old wreck of a base. Maybe you got your base on the cheap as a "fixer-upper" from some old SG that got wiped out in a massive home-turf battle with Nemesis or Arachnos or something... or you're an unregistered hero hiding in the ruins of greatness, or something.

Just my $0.02, adjusted for inflation.
