Who are we? We are the Defenders of Paragon.
We began on May 10th 2004 and have been a steady presence on Infinity ever since. You probably dont see us much on the public boards because we have our own fairly active website almost 5000 topics and almost 40000 posts since August 2004. Were mostly men, but with fair amount of women and some couples. Were also mostly adults 25-40, though we have had a few members as young as 18. While weve had a globe spanning membership stretching from Japan to Germany, most of us live in the Midwest or the East Coast of the United States. Most importantly, we recruit *people*, not characters. We use our global channel to play with each other regardless of what toons were running. We play together, and through our website, the heart and soul of our community, we share in each others lives.
Over five years, weve been through a lot:
-- A major leadership change in August 2004 (weve had the same leadership since then)
-- The rise of our sister villain organization, The Disciples of Power in October 2005
-- Base Raids (cant wait until they come back)
-- Membership declines and surges
-- Vacations
-- Short and long term breaks
-- Merchandising (t-shirts, mugs, posters)
-- Website outages
-- Viruses
-- Fights
-- Drama
-- Tranquility
-- Moves to new states and new countries
-- Marriages
-- Divorces
-- New Sons
-- New Daughters
-- Job losses
-- New pets
-- Pet deaths
-- Career changes
-- One member won a popular reality TV show
-- Multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan
-- Disability
-- Health crises: car accidents, diabetic coma, cancer, and broken bones to name a few
-- Friendship
-- and Death.
The best thing I ever hear from our members is that many wouldnt still be playing COX if wasnt for the DoP (Defenders of Paragon / Disciples of Power).
Who are we? We are the Defenders of Paragon and we are family.
If you'd like to join us, visit http://www.defendersofparagon.net, visit the applications forum, follow the directions, and post an application. Also, check out the portrait we had done of our oldest and most active members -- the link is in my signature below. -

Zone PVP is a wargame. It is kill or be killed with (almost) no holds barred. If you want a level playing field, I recommend Arena combat. Achievements in the zone are written in the blood of one's enemies and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I recognize this is not to everyone's taste; but when in the zones, cultivation of a highly competitive, warlike attitude hugely boosts enjoyment and success, not least for those new to PVP. I find it most satisfying when a novice zone PVPer or gimp build player turns to bite the hand of the would-be ganktard and take them down. But the noob is unlikely to rise to such victory without adopting a warrior's stance.

This is probably the single best explanation of the difference between arena and zone combat I've ever seen -- bravo! Excellent guide -- it should be required reading for every player. -
Duck:
Thanks for the great guide! As you seem to really know your stuff with binds, I'm hoping you can help me out. I use the most simple fly bind. I have a bind that activates fly and a second button that toggles between fly and hover. When in flight, I hit my autorun button to "auto-fly" I'm looking for a bind that: puts me in a specific fly pose and activates the autorun at the same time. Hitting that button again would deactivate the autorun function and the fly pose, leaving me motionless using the fly power. In other words, I don't want a bind that alters my fly or hover power -- I already have those. I need something that just activates autorun and a specific pose.
Thanks for your help! -

The F/X for a Storm Defender's Snow Storm have been alterted to an almost unplayable state. Eight of us from my SG started new heroes last night with one of us playing a Storm Defender. His snowstorm essentially created "white-out" conditions on the targeted group. Meaning that we couldn't see either the other enemy mobs our our fellow teammates -- the screen was almost totally white. This is not an issue specific to my machine. Every member of my group had the exact same complaint. In case this makes any difference, we were playing on the Infinity server.
I know the snowstorm F/X were improved in a previous issue. There was no need to improve them any further. Please reset the snowstorm F/X to their Issue 7 state. -
Thank the Hero Gods!!!!
Herd-canning was a difficult skill to master and something that separated us from other defenders. I'd hate see us nerfed into conformity because one of our powers was slightly overpowered in PvP. -
Fantastic guide -- the gold standard as far as I'm concerned. Well done, sir!

The Defenders of Paragon
We are a collection of mature adults who enjoy a casual atmosphere while playing the game we love. We are one of the oldest groups on Infinity (active since May 2004) and have been going strong ever since with well over 60 current members. Most of us are experienced players who have been playing COH since commercial release. Each of us takes pride in our ability to work as a team and play well together, and we are looking for knowledgeable, mature players to join our supergroup.
We discourage power gamers and power levelers. The DoP is a fairly casual group of adults who play when we get the chance. We pride ourselves on tactics and teamwork, like a good supergroup should. Our players are mature gamers who understand that at the end of the day, its our real lives that count. No one will ever grief you for the demands of real life.
What we are not:
We have no theme. You can be any type of hero youd like. We will never restrict you to a specific AT or origin. You dont have to be a healer or a monkey or a ninja to join.
We have no costume requirements. You can design your costume any way youd like. However, we dont want to be embarrassed by immature or blatant copyright infringement costumes.
We wont tell you how to build your character. We think everybody should have a travel power, but beyond that, they are your heroes, build them any way youd like.
We have no mandatory meetings.
We have never used Teamspeak.
We have no geographical or gender limitations.
The best way to get to know us is to visit our website (linked above). If you're interested in joining, visit our applications forum and post an application. -

<ul type="square">[*]Allow SG Leaders to change SG colors & symbol without reforming entire SG.
[*]an SG EVENT sub-tab on the SG interface, where Leaders could post dates & descriptions of upcoming events, such as Trials, Task Forces, or whatever strikes their fancy.
[*]Ability for leaders to setup a period of innactivity that results in characters being auto-dropped from the SG roster. I suggest a series of check-boxes for 30, 60 and 90 days...so SG leaders can choose the level of commitment that's required to stay in the SG.
[*]Display Global Chat handles in SG menu (at player discretion). This should be optional, where a player would have to check the "display Global Chat Handle" box in their SG options. If they check the box, then their Global Chat handle will appear in this column, allowing players to see which alts belong to which players.
[*]Ranked SG Chat Channels. Give us the option to make a Captians-only or Officers-only SG channels so SG leaders had a channel to chat in without involving all the lower-ranked members. While global chat might soon offer the ability to create custom channels, it would be inconvenient to maintain such channels manually.
To these fantastic ideas, I'd like to add (some taken from other posts):
<ul type="square">[*] Allow leaders to promote/demote officers while they are offline
[*] Allow current leaders to kick inactive members from the group. I have a "leader" in my SG that hasn't been a paying member of COH in 265+ days. I find it kind of disturbing that his rights (as a non-paying customer) take precidence over mine (as a paying supergroup leader) or those of my group (paying players).
[*] The ability to alter the colors and symbol of my group
[*] Supergroup sized missions. I want a scalable trial that requires anywhere from 10-30 players to complete. It should also accept SK's and RSK's to guarantee the widest possible participation.
[*] A SG vault where enhancements and inspirations can be stored and shared
[*] More expanded permissions/Ranks; The ability to set an individual/rank with specific Cans and Can nots. This could prevent unwanted abuse of administrative powers, make recruitment more convenient, allowcertain ranks to only kick ranks below them, etc.
[*] 75 ACCOUNTS rather than Chars. Alts should be allowed in SG without compromising slots. (by the way, this is the best idea I've seen in this thread -- well done, lionsbane!)
