City of Heroes 2: WORLD OF HEROES
I think that any sequel wields more power if it has some identity of it's own. -

Wow, I'm a forum slacker. Guess I'd better get cracking on the kvetching, chop-chop! -

Personally, I've always found it annoying/rude to get tells asking to join my currently running team.
Set your flag, send out a broadcast. If I want you, I'll ask.
Make your own team if you're that anxious.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe you should find another game to play or perhaps hide when you're on a team. MMORPG. Look it up.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for the tip. That stands for what again?
Making More Opportunities for Rude People to Game?
Make your own team. I've already got one. There's a reason you get a system message back if you try to invite me and I'm already on a team.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's possibly the best acronym retort ever. -
[ QUOTE ]
I've supported this idea for as long as I've known of it and everything I would say about it has already been said, except for one thing. I can no longer keep quiet about it.
Instead of Defense and Anti-Accuracy/Elusivity, name them Defense and Defence.
Aw yeah.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heck, instead of either Anti-accuracy or Elusivity we could go with De-accuracy. Works with De-fense. Put de lime in de coconut and drink de bowl up, put de lime in de coconut and call me in de morning.
Oh, and to Arcanaville's:
[ QUOTE ]
If I was designing the game system from scratch, I might have considered making positional and damage-oriented defense multiplicatively stack with each other (basically, both get to be used separately against all attacks). I could then invent something called the "precision buff" that would act like tohit buffs, and counter positional defense, say, and something else called "penetrator buffs: that would act like tohit buffs, but counter damage-oriented defenses instead. They would be the accuracy-based versions of the concept of "armor-piercing" except one of them would represent the intrinsic ability to compensate for a moving target, and the other would represent the intrinsic ability to negate physical deflection-based protections.

Interesting thing about this is that many superhero RPG game mechanics work just that way. -
[u]Name[u]: Astral Bus Charters ("Transporting heroes from one savage beating to the next")
[u]Currently Recruiting[u]: Not actively recruiting, but not against it either. What we want are COALITIONS.
[u]RP Level[u]: RP-friendly. Heck, we don't care one way or the other.
[u]Theme/Concept[u]: Astral Bus Charters exists for a very simple purpose - getting heroes from one zone to the next as quickly as possible, preferably accompanied by a sense of humor. To effect this the base has been designed as a "bus station" with a smooth flow path from entry to exits. It's a grubby steampunkish technomagical taxibot alternative. If you're a new SG leader and want to make your life easier, let us know.
[u]Activity[u]: Currently? A half-dozen friends with multiple alts joking around a lot
[u]Requirements for Membership[u]: Sense of humor, literacy a plus!

Addressing a few things I've seen on this thread:
1. There is no debt during invasions. The Rikti might down you during a lag spike, but it's painless beyond a free trip to the hospital. If it's absolutely unbearable, try leaving the zone or entering a mission.
2. Invasion Rikti personally scale to level like Giant Monsters do, so any characters level-suitable to Kings Row (for instance) aren't going to see any level 40 Rikti stomping about.
3. Frankly, level 40 characters shouldn't be running to Kings Row to fight invaders in the first place if we're really serious about how irritating the lag is. My very first invasion (possibly THE first invasion) was in Skyway with an alt that scaled with the zone and I had a blast. Zero issues. There were some other heroes around but not scads and scads, as other alerts had been going off nearly simultaneously.
Since then, I might as well be a civilian for all the good my powers do in these invasions. Sitting in Cap Au Diablo with my level 14 Corruptor watching a level 39 Mastermind smite foes isn't my idea of a good time. Try sticking to zones suitable for your level and perhaps we might not experience all of the claymation. There are heaps more lower level alts around than higher, anyhoo. Help yourself along with others. -
1st Stormie: You know what this room needs?
2nd Stormie: More aggro?
1st Stormie: More aggro.
Both Stormies: PULL WITH TORNADO!!!
Gawd, I wish I could find the post that this was an excerpt from. -
Generally speaking (not a direct response), I don't believe I've ever seen such a bubbling pot of self-deception and self-righteousness. This is now officially the knee-slappingest thread ever. Congrats all!

I stand by the fact that many people argue in the dominator-effectiveness debate simply to argue, and often times seem to stop comprehending what is said upon realization the topic is not in line with their own opinons. To be fair, probably a lot of it goes on from the other camp as well, however the side I seem to notice the most is the side that disagrees with me - for no other reason than I tend to notice replies to my comments more often.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would also say that there are the "anti-doms" that just like to argue about Doms being gimped and find it hard to believe that there are people out there that do have Doms that can solo well and do contribute to both small and large teams.
IMO part of the problem is this is a very subjective manner. There are too many variables such as power selection, slotting, player experience, player tactics, Level etc that muddy up the arguement. You can have one player that can very successfully play his Dom and on the other end you can have another person have nothing but problems with their Dom. It's all a matter of perspective.
[/ QUOTE ]
There you go using that 'reason' thing again. For shame! -

Triangles ARE part of the problem.

On the contrary, triangles are the simplest band instrument there is. -
So, have y'all finally agreed to disagree yet? Again?

Hell, even when I don't control, every time there is an ambush, I always get hit first. Why is that?
[/ QUOTE ] I would suspect the ambush is simply being smart--what's the CoV AT that doesn't have any form of passive defenses whatsover? The Dominator.
In that aspect, being an offense-based AT with only active defenses, Doms are in Blaster territory...and ask Blasters about ambushes

Some folks have said that doms suck because they can't solo. Yet my doms solo fine. Some say that doms suck because they're bad for teams. Yet my doms get compliments from teammates. Some folks say that doms suck because they're not competitive in PVP. Yet I have fun and do moderately well in PVP (casual PVP, anyway). So in my experience, no, doms don't suck the way people say they do.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do dominators
suck like people say they do?
I think they do not.
Oops, wrong thread. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Nonsense, I could just as easily pose the question: Are Doms as good as people say they are? Works both ways.
[/ QUOTE ] Um, you're making exactly the same mistake here--you're discussing someone else's opinions but not using their definitions of the words involved. Their opinion of what qualifies as "good" in that sentence has exactly the same relevance as their opinion of what qualifies as "sucks", but you're accepting one as valid and dismissing the other?
I think you're thinking too hard--it means what they think it means if we're talking about their opinions and not correcting their diction, which was the case.
In brief: You do not think they suck, but they do suck like people say they do because, when they say it, they're not talking about the same thing as you are
[/ QUOTE ]
So by this logic, they also rock like people say they do since they're not talking about the same thing as the folks who proclaim suckitude. In essence, we're surrounded by conflicting opinions of varying degrees.
Figures. Don't mind me, just moving the thread along... -
Ah, nothing like a few red posts to give an old thread new life...

[ QUOTE ]
I love how people say that if you feel doms underperform, you simply aren't playing them correctly. After months of reading this type of argument, I'm starting to wonder if perhaps the problem is that you all don't play your other AT's correctly.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think it's a valid point myself. Dominator play isn't a cakewalk by any means. I simply don't like it when folks declare vehemently that other people suck because there might a learning curve and those other folks haven't gotten it yet. You don't have to be l33t to succeed as a Dominator; you just have to be nonconformist.
This doesn't necessarily preclude an ability to play other ATs effectively. That might exist anyways; I can't play a Blaster to save my life, for example. I don't take it personally. I also don't play Blasters. -

[ QUOTE ]
We've got a nice tweak to the Domination ability coming down the pipe (it will crank up your Mez resistance while it is active), and are currently data-mining PvP to see what effect our last set of tweaks to the AT have had.
[/ QUOTE ]
While this is unquestionably Nifty, I'm not sure it's the right direction to go in addressing the woes of the Dom AT. I think most of us will agree that Domination is already pretty sweet--it's just the rest of the time that we feel lacking. Making our brief periods of uberness more uber won't make the slog in between any better. I'd rather see something shore us up in the gaps.
Here's a thought: Keep the mez protection (I'm hoping it's protection, as opposed to resistance, which is much less nifty). Key it to the Domination bar, rather than the power. When the bar is full, and Domination is available, mez protection kicks in until the bar drops, or Domination is activated. This would present us with a tactical decision: Do I save the bar to keep the protective buff, or do I trigger Domination and go all megalomaniacal on my foes? More importantly, it would ease the frustration during those long periods when we're all sparkly and looking at the little dot of unrecharged Domination.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm in agreement with Balanced and some other posters who've commented on this since. I'd even go a step further (someone else mentioned this too) and scale mez resistance up with the bar gradually as opposed to an all or nothing approach, as we get that with Domination already. Either/or would make me happy. -
[ QUOTE ]
And you wonder why I call you people pro dom's.
You completly discount anyone who doesnt agree with you.
I usually dont like to let my posts degrade to insults but this is going too far.

A quote by KombatJesus:
[ QUOTE ]
What do you get when you throw in some intelligent and vocal players who really know how to play the game With people who are earnestly trying to learn the AT With some lazy incompetent noobs who try at every turn to down toe AT and it's fanbase to get the AT molded in their own image and likeness?
[/ QUOTE ]
A quote by xxxxx:
[ QUOTE ]
That's because there are several self proclaimed uber-doms who quickly drop into insult mode and tear down anyone who says anything about doms needing any kind of change. Not naming any names but some people really flip out when anyone suggests doms aren't perfect.
[/ QUOTE ]
All emphasis mine. Am I the only one that finds these posts eerily similar?
Nobody named names. Doesn't matter; in the blame game, everyone is equal!
We now return you to your regularly scheduled self-righteous pissing contest. -
Whew, for a moment I thought the thread derailed to 'Do <name the AT>s suck like people say they do?'. Not sure what I would have done without the hearty and focused Dominator kvetching! Carry on!
-
[ QUOTE ]
The main thing I'd like the developers to look at for Doms are the ppp's. I feel they really got the short end of the stick here
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree that if other ATs got the stuff they were lacking, Doms should have too. -
Heck, I'll break rules and reprint:
<ul type="square">Blaster-level health
Damage increase to flat 70% BI
Defeat leaves Domination untouched
Endurance reduction in secondary
Endurance reduction in primary[/list]Looks like our first two priorities match. Imagine that. -
[ QUOTE ]
I made a dominator a while ago, he was fun and did pretty good. I know doms arent as good as trollers but i keep hearing that all doms are gimp and suck and stuff. Is this realy true? I always find a need for em. I dont plan on lvl'ing up a dom, i just came here to ask what the fuss is about. I ihave nothing against dominators because i always find them useful So i'm asking
Do dominators suck?
Are they fun?
Why do people say they arent good?
very curious, what do u guys think?
[/ QUOTE ]
You pretty much got the gamut of opinions above this post and below your original one. Just keep in mind that they're all opinions. The closest to a consensus that we all can come to is that some change would be desirable. Heck, I even listed down my top five priorities for Dominator change in one thread. Trouble is we can't agree on what or how much. Add in the shared propaganda that there are only two factions of Dominator player (pro-dom and anti-dom) and well, we're sort of sitting here debating once again in a Dominator thread that has the word 'suck' in it. Really wish you'd come up with a different title. Ah well. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, if they fix the AVs, then great. I'd be happy to delete this whole thread. In the meantime, though, I thought it might be helpful for those of us who are trying, STRUGGLING to complete their AV missions over the next weeks or months while the Devs are mulling over what they should do.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think even after the currently insane regen rate is dampened down this guide will remain quite helpful. Heck, if you're really industrious you could toss in the stats for the CoV side of things. If you're downright obsessive tactics for each AV could be suggested, as they tend to use very specific tricks to confound folks.
For instance, ran into Ghost Widow the other night and even with the addition of a few more folks we were hard pressed to combat both her regen and her self-heal... until we realised that the latter was dependent upon us being in melee range. Still, it took an hour to defeat her. Your guide won't go out of style, believe me. -

If you're using SherkSilver's builder go into the Setup Configuration to Auto Update and uncheck proxy as most ppl don't use a proxy. Then run the Check update. Should work for you.
