Part of the problem is that we're using player powersets, and are forced to take at least three powers from each set.
[/ QUOTE ]
*raises hand*
Some, as I recall, give two. Archery, Mijnion, Easy for instance should give Snap and Aimed shot. (Again, as I recall.)
Best thing to do is *really* look at each of them when the mob's being created.
That said, there are Madness mages (and I believe Life mages) at level 5. They make up for the mez by not having that much else they can do. -
[ QUOTE ]
Just to play devil's advocate: You can't use your eyes to see the thing that's pulsating? You can't look around corners or swivel the camera around? You can't actually try to SEARCH for it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Just to reply to the devils advocate portion:
Small bundles of dynamite against reddish-brown terrain in a giant refinery map. They blend VERY well. There are times I've had barrels not be visible just because of what they're against.
And without an audio cue (either from not hearing it, or from "fake" audio cues like in several tech maps where the sounds can blend and "pulse,) it can make a mission frustrating - you may not even know you SHOULD be seeing something nearby.
At least there's an occasional map that has a marker for where an objective should be. it's very uncommon though. -
[ QUOTE ]
Find which arc they're doing and report it for content?
[/ QUOTE ]
This, too.
I've seen several vanish. I mean, c'mon, when the lead dev says flat out "It's not for badging, it's not for farming," and there are blatant ticket farms (and badge farms for MA badges) in the freaking title of the mission?
I found a few, jotted them down - several were gone within two days. Whether they were pulled by the author or kicked out by CS, I don't know. I'd expect to see some churn there.
In any case - I've yet to be stuck on a farm team, or even invited to one, on any character. Quiet server, quiet zone, I'm good. -
[ QUOTE ]
You'd have to RSVP now, though.
[/ QUOTE ]
With that picture, I'd have to question the RSVP definition:
Rounds Shot Very Precisely?
Rifle Seems Very Pretty? -

Arc Name: Romio and J'Let
Arc ID: 3291
Faction: Rikti and Nemesis
Creator Global/Forum Name: @YanYan
Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate. No defeat alls, but several boss defeats, an escort, and hostages.
Level Range: 40-50
Synopsis: Romio of the Nemesis and J'Let of the Rikti have fallen in love. Despite their leader's wishes, they're going to defect and elope! Without help, they might never make it. Join the story and help turn this tragedy into a romance!
Estimated Time to Play: 10-45 minutes (10 for stealthing, 45 to defeat all), Three Missions
[/ QUOTE ]
Very clever, fun to play and read through. The thought of this sort of arc is what I *wanted* to see from the MA - and after wading through numerous thrown-together arcs, barely concealed farms and "go kill" dialog while looking through unrated arcs, it's a breath of fresh air.
It might have been easier for me since I was running a stalker >.> (yes, I did clear quite a bit, but being to "turn off" a boss's aggro and wait for an RA to wear off helps.) About the only nitpick (and this is all it is) is having the transforming Romio not have a "reacquired hostage" dialog. Obviously I lose him if I need to fight, it's just a nice thing to have to know he's seen me again. Didn't rate down on it.
All the "supporting cast" and their dialog was nicely done as well.
And I have to say, I like the hint of someone else getting to experience or continue the story with the final post-mission dialog from the contact. Just a lot of really nice touches.
OK, mine.
Arc Name: Hero Corpse
ID: 1134
Faction: Crey, Custom
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate. Boss fights, various rescues, and a glowie.
Level range: 35+
Summary: Hero Corps is asking for your help to find a wounded member of one of their teams. Finding them brings up unexpected, disturbing information to the rental heroes.
Play time - depends how much you stealth. You can zip through it in less than 15 minutes if you want, or clear everything... probably in under an hour.
Missions: 4 -
Veteran badges = past time on the account.
Anniversary badges = existing and being active (or at least logging on) during an actual time.
They're two different things, and frankly, no, I don't want the anniversary badges on my characters that weren't around for that anniversary. -
Vehicles as travel powers. This gets brought up a lot.
First, a tip on searching.
1. Click on "Search" up at the top of the forum.
2. On the left, under "Forum(s) to search," select "Suggestions and ideas."
3. On the right, Keyword Search Terms. This is probably where your problem was if you did search. Try the following, exactly as typed:
+vehicle -"re: "
This will search for anything with the string "vehicle" in the title. The -re: portion of it removes replies, so you'll see the root of every thread that comes up, letting you see just how many threads there are on this. (The last helps for other subjects, as well.)
Be sure to put the space between the colon and last quote.
4. Click the "In subject" radio button. This is a search, not a cute blonde in a bikini. Here, you probably want to ignore the body.
5. Leave Username Search blank.
6. Date range, Newer Than, change the 1 to a 3, and the time to Months.
7. Result format doesn't matter. Click on "Submit."
Now, on to the topic at hand....
Short answer, don't expect it.
Long answer:
There are a lot of problems with the idea.
1. Movement.
Forward and back, even turning - ok. But you can do things that a vehicle can't - such as strafe (direct side to side or angular movement.) It doesn't work with a vehicle.
2. Terrain.
Not every place has roads, or even makes sense for "off roading." Go look at Founder's Falls. Go look at Crey's Folley. Or Eden. Try to get to the north islands in Talos. What, do you have a kubelwagen? Look at the Pit in Sharkshead. Try to use your travel power (car) to get up to some of the doorways in high caves. Cars and motorcycles would be more like Superspeed - horizontal movement, period. And look - I'll be blunt - flat out *stupid* tied with, say, Combat Jumping or Superjump.
3. Combat.
You get ambushed on the way. How do you fight? Just have your powers blast out of the rolled up windows? How do you buff or debuff? EVERY power would need a new animation. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Then you want people with motorcycles instead of cars. Redo ALL the animations AGAIN. And they still wouldn't make sense - how do you use Footstomp in a car? Or Stalagmites?
4. Customizing.
Yeah, it would come up. Not everyone would want a sports car, or a mid-70s Buick boat, or an exotic, or a minivan, or whatever else.
5. Making "sense."
This was touched on in terrain - how do you get across water? How about the Shadow Shard? And if you want downright ridiculous looking, go do the heroside 25-34 Respec. Look at the Sky Skiffs inside of rooms or the reactor room. It makes no sense and looks *ridiculous.* Something that, yes, the devs try to avoid.
6. Powers
For every vehicle - from rollerskates on up - every power has to be reanimated to some extent. Just think of the amount of time that would take up.
That's just a quick overview of why vehicles are a bit more difficult of idea for a travel power. -
If it's separate from regular email, sure. Character specific has its place.

I think a UI element with an increasing/decreasing glow would be good; it's less distracting (and less easy to immediately 'read') than a pulsing light, and so serves the same function as the increasing/decreasing volume. Making this available only to people with the sound disabled ("deaf mode"?) would also be acceptable, although I think that some players who simply can't distinguish between sounds very well might complain.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, that's another instance it would help.
Tech lab maps. Usually at the entrance, and in one or two of the rooms - the sounds "blend" to where it sounds like there's a glowie nearby. A UI indicator would let you know right away that "No, you're just hearing things." -
And here I thought you were going to make a suggestion to patch the players...
/signed, absolutely. Yes, it's come up before. Yes, I'm completely deaf in one ear, in fact. Even without THAT consideration, I play with headphones - and am not always wearing them (such as when I have to wait for a phone call or some such.) This would help even those with full hearing when they can't have the sound up. -

I'm willing to bet he's asking for Tank_Washington's cross post to be hopefully locked.

Yes.
Someone else already reported it, and I PM'd Moderator 08. It's shameful behaviour to have undertaken, and IMHO deceptive both to have done and to have pointed to the statues. -

[ QUOTE ]
I am also in favor of some sort of metric or standard to be in place that sets a guideline for ideas like this.
[/ QUOTE ]
This, I'm fully in support of. (I'm very much "on the side of caution," if you've paid attention to my comments.)
[/ QUOTE ]
You know this thread speaks to a bigger topic that all 14 vocally opposed have overlooked by a mile.
Saying you'd like to see some standard or metric on this idea while spending ALL your time trying to shoot down the vehicle that might bring that about, is a contradiction.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's right. Make sure to dismiss all arguments against it, as well as those stated reasons FOR the argument against it. I'm no longer surprised.
[ QUOTE ]
Wouldn't it be amazing to have THIS in OUR game? That's a feature in a game that's not even a year old.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, not really. Another topic brought up often.
[ QUOTE ]
Do you really think the devs would consider the request in the OP without first considering a system to reward laudable milestones by other players, and events? Really?
[/ QUOTE ]
Given they know about precendents, and the way they've helped celebrate other PLAYER EVENTS, why do you dismiss them as being not enough for this? Precedent exists for the other suggestions (mostly.) But you refuse to even consider them - hypocritically, you accuse those of us who HAVE pointed this out of not considering these things.
[ QUOTE ]
[u]You say you want a standard and contemplation by the devs, but the vehicle to start the process is right in front of your eyes.[u]
[/ QUOTE ]
Precedents have been set already. You want to leapfrog them to something JUST for your event.
[ QUOTE ]
You've pointed to other entities that are worthy, yet clearly those associated with them are no where near as passionate about their cause as those who've attended TT through the years.
More likely, many of the leaders of the afore mentioned don't have active accounts anymore.
[/ QUOTE ]
Assumptions, generally false, also don't help your arguments.
[ QUOTE ]
This is the vehicle to force that "metric" by the devs if there ever was one, by the broad show of support,
[/ QUOTE ]
There is no "Broad show of support." TT is not that big of an event. Long running, yes, but not cross server, not as huge as you want to make it out to be.
[ QUOTE ]
Airing on the side of cation and inside the box clan thinking rarely gets anything interesting done, just as it wouldn't if some of you had your way with PP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Since you're not bothering to listen to arguments - the word is "Erring." Airing would be bringing something into public - "Airing dirty laundry."
And since you're just being dismissive, despite the reasoning given for opposition, as well as trying to rig things by driving more traffic here (with a false - and honestly, more damaging example, that's also been shot down for good reasons before) - you're no longer worth addressing.
I'm stepping out of this thread.
My reasoning has been given, with full, thought out arguments to back it up that many like Tank_Washington here are dismissing because it doesn't match EXACTLY what THEY want. Alternatives that are more appropriate are being ignored, even though they could well bring MORE attention to the event than the plaque, because it doesn't match EXACTLY what THEY want.
Others viewpoints are being dismissed because, when it comes to the opposing viewpoints, we're getting the occasional "Memphis_Bill is your leader" - which I am not, and have never claimed to be, nor have I been labeled such by the others opposed to this - which is more reason for me to step out of this thread, so that their viewpoints can unequivocally be seen as their own and not met with even more dismissal.
And from what I saw of the folks coming in a bit late, once the main (and not that large, honestly, by the look of the screenshots - not miniscule, but not some massive organization) T_T groups left, there's not much "community" there if the leaders aren't around. I saw groups (duos, generally) of tanks that could well have joined up, SKd lowbies, etc. just standing around, then logging out... that's not a "community building" effort to me, it's not an "event for the sake of the event," it's "Oh, if I'm not with the main group, I'm leaving." I saw multiple tanks (at least one of which I recognized by name) come in, stand (or float) around, and log out.
Probably seven tanks over fourty five minutes. There would, from what I recall, have been exemplar issues or SK issues for *one* if this group had actually decided to band together in what seems to be presented as the spirit of the event. But they did not.
It certainly didn't impress me as to their "community building." I even saw someone who came in late broadcast about it, asking if there was a team - whereupon another member said, "They all left," instead of startting a team.
The behaviour there, as well as in this thread, and the low tactic of trying to drive traffic, has completely destroyed any hope this group may have had of winning me over to supporting this - because that is NOT what a worthwhile community group does.
And as someone who, yes, loves to play my tanks and has - without going to a Tanker Tuesday - been called a very good tank - that's disappointing to me.
Congrats in your five years. I am opposed to a plaque, and less inclined thanks to the behaviour of some such as Tank_Washington to agree with much of anything past having devs show up and hand out titles like every other event at this point. -
You know what's REALLY pathetic?
Going in and starting another thread, against forum policies, to try to drive traffic here, bypassing all the arguments both for and against.
Apparently Tank_Washington doesn't think the idea stands on its own and is trying to get a mob here. Sounds like a vote against to me... or a vote for at least one thread lock. -
It would depend on the amount... both for if I'd consider it, and if they would.
I probably would. *shrug* -
... well, you've just described how to open up pretty much any power pool. >.<
I'd say... expand this. A lot. For such a small post, you're starting some assumptions, and honestly... not giving a lot of information.
Now, while most of the longer term forumites are going to be familiar with Stamina, someone new coming to the game, hearing how wonderful the power is, etc. isn't going to get a lot of information from this.
You're also phrasing it somewhat... badly. You don't need Stamina at 20 (avoiding the whole "if you need Stamina" argument at all.) Some powers are more useful at 20 than Stamina. (Kheldian Dwarf forms, for instance.) Sometimes you may want to put it off anyway. (VEATs, with a respec at 24 - stick with it for three more levels, and decide afterward if you want to fit it in.)
An idea of what I'd do - and I'm not saying "This is the one true way" or anything, but just trying to give you ideas:
Stamina:
- What is it?
- Why do you want it?
- Fitting it in. (Do you want to put it off 'til after 22, when you get SOs?)
- Slotting. (3-slotting, 2-slotting later, IO options such as uniques or sets.)
- Powersets that already have END recovery built in, or may not need it (say, some MMs)
- Alternatives to Stamina (slotting and IOs.)
- Alternates for really tight builds (using Fitness as a travel power, for instance.)
- Perhaps an example build or two from different ATs.
Fill it out! Give people the information they can really use not just to fit it in, but to understand the power and why they want (or don't want) it.
I'm sure you know the information, and you obviously want to be helpful - share what you know, like you were telling someone who just came into the game today. -

WANT.
(and shall buy the Architect Edition box, cos it'll also come with a month of play).
[/ QUOTE ]
Here, too. -
Doing or collecting, no, but if you want to see someone who seems to do well in various media, check Hibbary on DA out. Just plain good overall. (Caught some of her dragons and such, looked through the rest - she does interesting things with color, the occasional sorta-steampunk, and does wonders with expressions.)
-
Yeah, it's not exactly an objection, just trying to think of if it's been referenced before.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Someone suggested graffiti, but heroes wouldn't tag the wall. How about something like "Tankers sux" which WOULD be something that skulls or Hellions would write. Would this be worth considering as a plaque alternative?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm trying to think of any instance, right offhand, where NPCs refer to an archetype. An origin, yes, but I can't think of an archetype reference. -

PLAYER events have historic ways of being recognized,
[/ QUOTE ]
That doesn't mean this event does not deserve this recognition.
It just means it hasn't been done before,it would be a first.
First's which is something I believe City of Hero's is fast becoming known for in the MMORPG community.

And which, given how limited the scope of this particular instance is, is drawing criticism. -

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
This isn't to say our event is so important that it should change the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, thats exactly what people are saying. a plaque is a change to the game, permanantly and on every server.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not being flip and if it was said before, I honestly don't remember, but how does this change the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
It is a direct alteration of the game world for an real-world-run event. (And by that I mean, while it obviously is played in-game, all organizing and such is purely on the players.)
As an example of what would be a player-developed change to the game world (and I know this isn't possible in game, I'm using it purely for illustration,) there was a recent article about ... think it was Warhammer Online, where they had the first "legitimate" takeover of a capital or some such thing. Now, I don't believe that affects every one of their 'shards' or 'worlds' or whatnot.
What would something similar be in-game here... I don't know. We don't have a way of sustaining world-changing events even where it's supported. For instance, even if one server's heroes continually kept Siren's Call in Hero hands - if the server was reset, it goes back and they have to start over.
I don't believe something drastically world-changing is *possible* in this game. You can't, for instance, gather heroes to run every Clockwork mission and clear every Clockwork from the streets, completely removing the threat of the Clockwork King from the game. It's just not supported. But if it *were* possible and a massive effort like that were undertaken - that would be a change to game lore, one that would be (to me) markable by a plaque. The plaque, in that case, would be right in line with the OTHER plaques in the city... which mark in-game moments of in-world history.
Edit:
About the only way I could see such a thing happening would... well, be a massive effort on the devs part.
1. Set up something like the Council/Column Civil War.
2. Let players know their actions determine who wins.
3. Every maintenance, the server checks to see "who's winning," and alters that by the average across all servers.
4. Next issue, the loser is gone. Or possibly only on one side or the other. -
[ QUOTE ]
The people complaining are missing the point. This isn't to say our event is so important that it should change the game. Anything that promotes the fun of CoH and the love players have for it should be embraced because this is why we are here and why we keep coming back. It is a show that through player participation and hard work that the game changes and thrives to reflect that.
There have been other changes because of the community. A small plaque in a spot that is out of the way is so minor a change that it should be at least considerable.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, actually, we're not missing the point, but ours seems to keep being dismissed.
PLAYER events have historic ways of being recognized, all of which *and more* have been suggested *as a total package* for this.
A plaque is not among them. TT has not changed the game world in a way the game world would recognize, yet a plaque indicates it does. and does for every server - which it does not. Out-of-game organization of the event, as far as permanent recognition, should be kept in out-of-game-world areas. And newly permanent means of OBTAINING said out-of-game-world recognition have been proposed, and other than being thrown on a list, either dismissed or outright ignored. -
[ QUOTE ]
All of you against Tanker Tuesday recognition please tell us what you have done for the player base to make it better, please tell us what player event you are involved with that has lasted for 5 years, please tell us what you have done that makes your opinion worth listening too..
[/ QUOTE ]
Go look in the guides section.
I'd say "Ask the PVPers on various servers, the masterminds who now know how to use Bodyguard," and go on even longer. But I'm not. I've been a part of the entire community - on and off the boards, every server, every AT, from old hands to newbies. Most of the people I've helped in game wouldn't know Memphis Bill from Adam, since (a) I have many characters and (b) I don't advertise "Oh, and remember, you talked to Memphis Bill!" Hell, I get surprised the times my character DOES get recognized.
But I'm not asking for recognition, nor is anything I do a drive towards it. It's done purely for the love of the game.
Tell me what makes your dismissal worth listening to.
[ QUOTE ]
I just find it sad that people that do nothing for the community are so quick to vote against those that do.
