Quote:I feel yourAs soon as I saw the Fireflies aura, a beautiful character popped into my head, costume and name all intact. I waited until i19 to roll her, so she could have her aura.
Imagine my chagrin to realize that yep, she has to wait till level 30 to get her beautiful little glowy creatures of the night.,
and once again I say:
.
If there HAS to be an unlock (and there is considerable unrest over THAT), it should be an Account unlock. One and done. Having your 43rd character still have to wait to level 30 to get a defining aura is simply lame.
Mandatory reference to purported "solution": PL MEH! -
Quote:While I understand the notion that there should be a carrot motivating players, after the first hero to hit 35, it does get extremely old having to unlock pieces for each with only 15 levels to go until 50 for each successive player. Same problem with auras at 30... I have a number of characters who looked "wrong" until they could get their auras, and it was just lame.If I want to play a futuristic knight type character with the Vanguard Blade and Shield... wait, I never can, because I start playing the character and just go "No, this feels off." And delete it, because it doesn't look as it should and won't until I'm level 35 + amount of merits needed to get both.
Same goes for Roman armour and the defeat enemy unlocks and so on.
Same problem with capes back in the day, although now you can get shoulder capes as a Vet, and buy some capes... which sort of obliterates the ol' "Honor Hero 1" business now, doesn't it?
Unlocks are problematic, for sure. -

Although I will concur that no small number of folks on the forums have expressed a willingness to part with a good chunk of change to get mini-figures or small statuettes of their heroes, and giving them an outlet for such desires could be lucrative. -
Truy wonderfu, Heaix!
Makes me think of that TV specia of ong ago, "Rudoph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

Quote:I understand, but pulling Trapdoor out of the room also makes the fight far too much of an AI circumvent. Think about it. If Trapdoor were a real person, he would not run from the source of his healing.Quote:I've seen many PUGs that make this statement false.
"Heal me!"
"You're on the other side of the map."
Perhaps we could think of it as inspiring Trapdoor to engage in "just scouting out the map" or some other fatal behavior. -
And since it is Christmas time again...
A few years ago Troy appeared in-game as one of his many off-beat superheroes at the Cyrus Thompson statue on each of the servers for several nights running on a set schedule. Fortunately for all of us, it was NOT Disturbing Grandma!
It was pretty cool to see one of Troy's characters (in this case, it was the Green Beatnik) and banter with him for a while, but what was also pretty cool was meeting some folks from the forums that I had never seen in-game before. So it was fun to meet the Blue Heeler, who I only knew from the GREAT photos of his Blue Heeler that served as his forum avatar.
I must also bring up that once the statue arrived in game, others have pushed to see the actual community center depicted in the comic, whereas I and a few other smart alecs noted that across the street from the statue in the comic book was a storefront that read "MON GROUNDS."
The joke was that a speech balloon obscured what was probably the rest of the name, COMMON GROUNDS, which was Troy's Eisner-nominated trade paperback, so it was meant as a sly nod to that famous shop. But the vocal few acted as if MON GROUNDS was the actual name of the business, leading Troy to quip that it was "a Jamaican coffeeshop."
All that said, the "Smoke and Mirrors" arc was hands-down the best of the CoH Comic. Troy was at the top of his game, and not only did he give us a Silver Age hero in Cyrus Thompson who exemplified the best of his ilk, I have always thought his Statesman was the best take on the character I ever saw.
SPOILER:
Cyrus is collapsed on the ground, and Statesman gently raises his head and shoulders up. "Did you stop them?" Cyrus asks weakly. "No sir," Statesman responds, "but YOU did."
Friends, that is great stuff. It still gets to me, writing from memory.
*MilitarySalute to Cyrus' statue* -
We, the very tite of the thread is about Christmas: Noe, noe...

Functionally, of course, you are absolutely correct. There are also some folks for whom having anything on that debt bar, even at level 50, really grates on them. (Nah, I don't care about lvl 50 debt. I went on Hami Raids back in the day.
) So for those that detest debt at all times, even that really isn't an issue now.
I am just waiting for the AutoJoinTeam function, where you log in and are tossed into a PUG that fills up as folks log on and off you go. THAT will be a challenge in meshing powers to the tasks at hand that will change every time. There will be Newbs, Noobs and all manner of heroes in between, woo hoo! For me, (who CLEARLY must not care about debt!) that would be fun. For others, it would be torture. But I think a lot of folks would avail themselves of such a function to take on difficult tasks quickly, and most of the time, the PUGs should be up to the task. Eh, my two cents.
-
It seems to me that there are basically two overarching questions here:
1) Is the new content too hard to solo?
2) Should we be "forced" to team if we cannot solo?
There are variations on these themes, such as whether IOs are now actually "mandatory" to have the power to solo.
I like to team. I solo when I must, and some content is tough to very tough to impossible for some of my heroes to solo, but such is life in general. I like the variety. I like figuring out how a PUG with its random mix of powers can solve problems, like Nemesis snipers or pulling Ghost Widow. Sometimes the team does not work out, but most often, we figure out a way to do things. I enjoy solving the same sorts of problems with my different heroes. There are some challenges I cannot easily surmount with some of my heroes, which is interesting to me.
For myself, what is really still lacking in this game are mechanics to make teaming speedier. This is not "Nobody ever invites me" or "I can't get a team;" it can be done, but it could be faster and easier to do it. The mechanics, such as a "Team looking for more" flag and the like, have been discussed in great detail, so I will not rehash it here. If you could pretty much get on a team when you wanted to, or "needed" to, a lot of problems would not be problems.
At least for me, the Epic Fails I have run into upon occasion keep the game a challenge. I have still not figured out why some teams I have been on kicked Reichman's Nazi heinie very efficiently, and on other teams, we never could beat him down after over an hour of whaling away on him. Some times the TF fails. Oh Well.
I am not fast nor flashy. I am three months shy of being in the game 6 years. I have 10 lvl 50s and a few in the high 40s. Some weeks I can play a good deal, some weeks only a few hours. None of my heroes is "purpled out," but I am an excellent team player and I communicate pretty well. I still enjoy the game.
I also died multiple times taking out Holtz and the Honoree solo, but I figured it out. I got chopped by the Minotaur when I got careless, but I did a field rez, popping Break-Free, Defense, Respite, Breather and smoked him right back. For me, that was fun. It would have caused other folks to have an aneurysm. And due to Patrol XP, I had no debt when I logged back in, which certainly is not how it was Back in the Day. Debt is not a big deal any longer.
I like the challenges and tough missions. I just wish it did not take so long to get a team together. -

Quote:I was wondering if the improvements to Fly had finally gotten it to where the default slot could reach max speed. Back when I started, you had to 3 slot Fly to hit max speed, and at that, it would run you out of endurance after a while! We have come a long way. This is good news.2) Try to salvage slots from other parts of your build;
- In the past, fly used to require more than the default slot to reach the flyspeed cap, if your build is old, you could get a slot from there.
Of course, prior to ED, some folks SIX SLOTTED Hover, which made it as fast as sprinting. But if you did not want to CRAWL painfully with Hover, you needed two to three slots there, as well. But Hover seems to be plenty fast now with just the default slot.
I will pick up 2 slots on my oldest guys from Fly, and at least one and perhaps 2 from Hover as well. Woo-hoo! -
Bless your Silver Age heart, Golden Girl, you do haz skills.

Quote:And so the plot thickens, as it were. They didnt say anything, just complained that Im ruining their farm and kicked me. If someone asks me not to do something I wont do it for the good of the team.
Some farmers scorn anything that will waste precious nanoseconds of their time. Like explanations, pre- or post- kicking of a member.
You were likely much better off elsewhere. -
Quote:Of course, back in the day, Rocky stood at range and heaved boulders, Jack Frost pelted baddies with snowballs and the Fire Imps attacked everything on the map in a manner calculated to cause maximum aggro.I sent a PM to Castle. He acknowledged that Phanty's behavior of running into melee is a problem with a LOT of other pets, too, and that it is "on the radar to be fixed." That means they know about the bug, intend to fix it but have no promises on when it will get fixed.
Okay, two out of three of those examples were problematic because the pets never went into melee unless tricked. The AI was adjusted and voila! pets who should stay at range, like Phanty and Singy, rush into melee and Hilarity Ensues.
Look for Pet AI Mark III, being the third try, hopefully to be the charm. Or not. -
Rain of Fire is a GREAT power, and like a lot of other great powers, it takes some finesse to use to its best advantage. There are 3 general instances to use it:
1) Dropped on top of your group's squishies, it will make melee baddies run away instead of pounding them to greasy stains on the pavement. This use alone by the Fire Blasters I was with (as opposed to dropping it on baddies up ahead) would have made my initial runs in the Caves of Atta far less lethal.
2) Combined with Ice Slick, Freezing Rain or other power that has baddies falling, it is golden. Likewise any AoE Hold. The baddies cannot flee and they cannot shoot back, and they get melted.
3) Combined with an AoE Immob or Slow--not optimal, since the baddies can still shoot you, but they cannot run and meltage likewise occurs.
Rain of Fire gets the user in trouble if not used as above. When simply dropped on a group of baddies, they will scatter, upsetting those in your group. Also bear in mind:
A) Do not use Rain of Fire to pull.
B) Rain of Fire will make Lag a lot worse, so you may be called upon to refrain from using it. (In the old Hami Raids, there was always a chucklehead who claimed they thought Rain of Fire was a Hold.)
C) Any baddie hit by Rain of Fire will be wanting to stomp YOU personally into the ground, unless someone else grabs their aggro. Not cool when your fellows use single-target attacks and a boat-load of baddies come to discuss Rain of Fire with you.
I love Rain of Fire. Simply kicking someone for using Rain of Fire, without prior warning or explanations, is pretty lame. -
To quote Enrico Pollini (Rowan Atkinson) from "Rat Race":
"It's a race!... I hope I ween!"
Good luck, Steelclaw, and may the best... whatever they are win!
Does everyone have to be the same alignment, ie, Loyal or Resistance? -
Quote:The Day/Night Cycle for the Server is a powerful force. I was standing INSIDE A BANK VAULT when the time for sunset came along, and I was fascinated by the moving shadows as the sun set... with me, of course, inside of an enclosed vault with no windows inside of a building that likewise had no windows.Yeah, what immediately caught my eye was real-time shadows, but they could have increased the day-night cycle even without those. Is there some technical difficulty making this impossible?
Could that be addressed? Far easier and more important to add knockback effects to Hover, I suppose.
