Someone just explained this to me the other day. By default villains can't see hero chat or tells, and heroes can't see villains chat or tells. In the first screen of the "Options" section you can allow your characters to see "enemy chat."
You'll have to do this manually for each one of your characters. -

Here's probably the stupidest question I've seen on these boards, but HOW DO YOU GET TO THE HOLLOWS????
I looked for an hour and a half this morning, but I couldn't figure out how to get there! Please help!!
[/ QUOTE ]
If you open the map in Atlas Park, you'll see a red dot on the Eastern border of the zone. Put your pointer over the dot - that should be the Hollows entrance. -
HooRAY!!!! *dances in the street* Bo's back!
We missed ya, Fire_Wa11! -

Morcheeba's "Love and Fear" was the kicker. Skye's voice is simply amazing (very much like Tracy Thorn's work with Massive Attack, only Skye is better.)
[/ QUOTE ]
I absolutely LOVE Morceeba. A friend turned me on to them after he saw them on tour with, of all people, Bob Dillon.
Random Sample of the 2577 tracks on my computer:
1) I Want A New Drug - Huey Lewis & The News
2) Surrender - Soulstice
3) Land of Confusion - Genesis (if I had the time and talent I'd make a CoH video with this song...)
4) Pappa Don't Preach - Madonna (Damn that Immaculate Collection... popping up at the most inopportune moments...)
5) In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning - Frank Sinatra
6) We All Need To Get Laid - Kacey Jones
7) I Can't Stand Up For Fallin' Down - Elvis Costello and the Atractions
8) The Same Old Sun - The Alan Parson's Project
9) On The Inside - Michael Franks
10) In The Light - Led Zeplin

What befuddles me is why Manticore's even *in* the ICU, or why they even used shock paddles...

There were, uh... it was... ok, it was my electric blaster Bilskirnir's fault.
I mean, come on, I didn't know where I was... I'd been out in King's Row drinking for, like, three days straight... All I know is these guys with white masks who look suspiciously like Vhaz Mortificators are coming at me with some kind of needle, and I kinda panicked. Sorry about that Manticore... I really didn't mean to short out the Rez tubes at the exact moment you got brought in.
Can I buy you a beer to make it up to you? -

I misread this as "amish". Insomnia sucks.

Yes! More Amish heroes! That's what we need!
[/ QUOTE ]
What origin would they be? You can count out Tech and Sci for obvious reasons. Magic would be blasphemy. Mutation would be out of the question for lack of cell phones and microwaves... that would leave natural.
Feel the power of the Amish!

Okee doke... that settles it! Time to start posting new items on the Consolidated Costume Suggestions thread:

I don't like that the Asian heroes do not fit the CoH world at all. They look like they fled from a Final Fantasy game. I'm not saying their design (as in their look) is bad, the opposite. But they do not have the same flair as the rest of the game and that makes it a bad design.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know, personally I think it's GOOD design to let people play whatever kind of heroes they want to play in the game world. You wanna be a gritty scrapper with a jacket and T-Shirt? Go for it. You wanna play a guy running around in a leotard? You can do that too. Why not let people play Dragonball GTH-style heroes if that's their thing? -
I don't know that I'd call it "third-best" in my personal hierarchy of storylines... I felt that it had more character-driven writing than the other two Top Cow story arcs we've seen thus far, and I'm always in favor of that.
Yeah, Numina seems to be everyone's favorite bail-out device lately... "Well, we've really painted ourselves into a corner here. Lets call in Numina again." Hey Manticore, maybe that's a future story-arc that you should suggest to the writers: Numina gets tired of blind team invites from the Freedom Phalynx, decides they'll have to get themselves out of their jams for once, and takes a day off
I just got the feeling that there was another page or so's worth of de nu mount (sorry French speakers... can't spell it) - a closing scene between Manticore and Brawler talking about what they'd learned, how they'd grown from the experience, etc... again, the ending came too soon. -

God I pity the dev who takes over the Synapse character especially after that CoV trailer.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, Manticore or Mako should really write a juicy story arc or something to help Synapse regain some of his dignity... -

The important thing to remember here, is that NCSoft has a marketing division. Who may be responsible for all the videos we see. Meaning that all the powers you think you saw in there, may be nothing more than fluff the movie makers put in, cuz it looked cool. it could very well be that the people who actualy made hte movie have never even played CoH.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can dig that... While they're dangling stuff in front of my that I can't have, could NCSoft's Marketing Division make a video with me levitating a dump truck like they did in the CityofHero training videos? (Visit the Korean City of Heroes site, click on Training Video, and choose Episode No 2)

I've been lobbying for a new city zone in the space between Steel Canyon and Independance Port. One half of it would be "Little Italy" and the other would be "Chinatown", and the zone arc would feature a Family/Tsoo conflict. Ideally featuring lvl 15-25 mobs.
[/ QUOTE ]
They'd have to call that "Hmong Town," wouldn't they? -
It would be cool if they were going to do some Asian re-styling of the Paragon City environments for the Asian market... That'd get them that much closer to having the artwork necessary for World of Heroes in the future (they already have some European building styling in The Rogue Isles and Kroatoa).
-
So, I finally took the time to read issue #9 of the Top Cow comic, and I really dug it... except for the sudden drop-off at the end (felt like there should have been more to the ending but they ran out of space).
Back Alley Brawler really came off as a bad mother-shut yo mouth (Just talkin' 'bout Back Alley Brawler). It was a nice three issue arc.
The player fiction was of a really high calibre, too... compliments to Lucien Soulban. His story about the daughter of the fallen hero was wonderful (and RoughTrade, I'll be very interested to see where your hero registration story goes... funny stuff!).
Great job to one and all! -
Great to have you back, Cuppa... hope you were able to de-compress a bit from last year. We promise to try and make this year a little easier on you... right guys?

Right now a lot of posts have talked about the high Prestige cost of Base items - and that they're bringing in a ton of Salvage but can't really do anything about it.
Bases, as they currently stand, really focus on mid and large sized groups earning Prestige - so the complaints have a good point. We're trying to work something out so that a smaller group can get something useful quickly - and also put Salvage to use! Can't promise a timeline, but we are working on it.

Jack, you rock! Thanks for paying attention to this issue. -

I've noticed that CoH seems to have a high couples count compared to other games we've played. It also seems to have a larger female player base than other MMOs I've played. At the risk of sounding sexist, for women new to gaming I think CoH is a very user friendly introduction. The learning curve is quite gentle, the game is very forgiving in the early levels and it's quite easy to team with your SO even if there are several levels between the two of you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Count two more of us in the mix... and my brother and his fiancee play as well.
I'd agree with EmainMacha. I think that CoH is a great introduction to gaming for non-gamers, or at least non-hardcore-rpg-players. EVERYONE loves the costume creator, the early levels are a great way to teach you the game, and the game can be as easy or as complex as you want it to be (ok, not as complex as some want it to be... I guess I mean "if you're into numbers you can focus on those, if you're just into an hour's diversion you can get that too").
It's been a great activity for my wife I. The couple that games together... uh... -

There doesn't seem to be a way to know what your Gross assets are for an SG - all you can see is what's left.
Kinda makes it hard to pre-plan for the rent...
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm no master builder, and we're probably going to have to wait for Poz or another dev to confirm this, but I think there is a spot that tells you the total value of the base. When you first go into edit mode in your secret entrance, you'll see the room description window (with tabs for lighting and info). In the "info" tab is a spot to show you the total value of the base.
Now, I didn't have enough prestige when I started building to do more than lay down three rooms on a tiny plot..., and my value ended up being 0 by the time I was done (come on Part Timers, lets get some more prestige so we can upgrade our plot!!). My assumption is, however, that once we have more items in the base our total value will grow, and we can pre-plan the rent based on that. -
Actually, I have a functional question/ bug:
I set up a base for my SG last night. I really liked the ability to add extra levels or take out floor sections for a "sunken" look. When I tried to add stairs or a ramp, however, they only pointed one way. I couldn't put them on all sides of the "sunken" area.
When choosing the item, the item window says "right-click" to rotate. When I right-clicked on the item, however, it just rotated the whole map. Is this a bug? Or am I missing some type of secret crouching-mantis-style base-fu technique for rotating items? -

Newspapers? For heroes?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't see the newspaper working quite so well for us...
'I see in the paper that the bank was robbed yesterday. If only I'd been there in time to do something about it.'
Nah, a police radio or something of that ilk is a much better idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
Quoted for emphasis. Newspaper "tech" is a great idea, Devs, but a little switch to something more "active" and less "research oriented" would be warranted.
Hooray for sharing mission completion though... those of you who aren't in CoV Beta are gonna weep for joy when you see that little announcement pop up on your screen. -
States, IMO you and the team did a FANTASTIC job with this issue. My blaster lives longer, my controller can actually solo, the debt is much more managable, Croatoa is AWESOME as are the fires in Steel. Sure, there were some technical hitches (I actually had to buy a new video card and upgrade my RAM to play post I5... and they're still patching to fix bugs), but in my opinion this was your best update yet.
Keep up the good work... I'll keep playin'! -
Hey all
Cuppa, not trying to Necro here or anything, but I linked this thread to a friend who's just started playing and thought that the whole thread could use being bumped. There's some great stuff in here for new players, and some items should probably be updated in the wake of Issue 5 changes!

#2: We finally have have the title for Issue 6: Impeach Mayor Morales! Not only is her police force infeffective, but she can't even keep the city safe from fire! Can she really hold office much longer?
#3: Awesome article Gil! Great to have you back. I've been missing the regular Wednesday delivery of the Paragon Times. Hope that you get back on the regular schedule... it really helps to brighten the week! -

One of the first rules of game design is that when realism conflicts with fun, fun wins.
The goal of base raiding is to make it an event, something both sides can look forward to, strategize for, and participate in....

Thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU oh mighty Lord of Malevolent Evil!
Speaking as one of the early players of Ultima Online, I can tell you first-hand how [censored]-y having your base (or, in that case, castle) broken into and looted while you weren't online can be. I can recall three separate occasions when I logged in to find my "home" violated by housebreakers (I believe they fixed the bugs that these griefers used in that game, but it did suck at the time).
I truly appreciate that you've given the matter some forethought and are taking steps to make base raiding "fun," if less spontaneous.
