For each of my main characters, I have setup binds that turn the ones they don't need into ones they do.
Every time I see my inspirations fills, I smash the binds to make the ones it looks like I have fewest of and then when things go bad like you describe, I just eat 'em up.
I have been the last man standing, handing out wakies and what not that I made from the inspirations I got back from killing off the ambush that wiped the party more time than I can count.
My regular buddies have all learned this now as well.

Quote:In the words of Adam Savage, "There's yer problem!"I find it utterly laughable that you believe that you are somehow entitled ...
The fact that a game not being online for a few hours one day can actually be a catastrophic event for the OP, and others, just shows me how little some people know about the real world and how things really work.
It's a friggin' game. It is not your power, water, food or even your ISP. In the words of the young-folk nowadays, "Man Up!"
Keep on postin' OP! I need a good laugh now and then. -
It applies on to MA attacks.
The window is very small. You basically have to have another MA attack queued to fire off right after it. I think it's supposed to be 2 seconds but IME you must really have the next attacked queued and ready to fire.
I find it works well, but it does not work every time. -
Quote:You implied I need to grasp something to have a management position, I simply gave an example of why you are incorrect.Have I demanded that change your life specifically? Please point it out to me. All I know is that change and time are the constant variables in everything. If you want to match johnson's, I've been an IT Director for a multi-billion dollar company for 20 years. You are right about one thing, I don't know more than you
See that's the issue...you seem to want to match johnson's and I could not care less.
I brought up my position simply because you implied I was somehow missing something by not allowing certain pressures to influence my life or grasping that they do regardless.
As I stated before, this is going nowhere, as we obviously approach life in very different ways. -
Quote:I am the IT director for a multi-million dollar company and I have been for 10 years, does that count? Thanks for admitting that you have pressures. I was concerned when you said you only liked to "grind." Your comments about peer pressure are interesting. If you hope to have and maintain a leadership position anywhere you should try to grasp this concept on a deeper level...even though it is boring to you :-)
There is no concept here I need to grasp. You seem to think you somehow know more than I do about how I should live my life. You don't. -
Quote:This is funny. You can avoid this game but the pressure will come from somewhere else. Do you not want to get the value from what you pay monthly for this game? If not, then why do you pay? You have pressure, you just aren't fully aware of it. Control is an illusion because of time.
Look, I got my 'moneys worth' about 5 years ago. There is no underlying pressure for me to play this game. The monthly fee is so low on my financial radar as to be free. I am lucky in that respect.
There is nothing in this game over which I feel pressure, except, perhaps, when I have to use the bathroom and I tell myself, just one more group of baddies, hold it!
As for RL, of course I have pressures. I cannot deny that. But I was referring, specifically, to the peer pressure of keeping up with others that you referred to with your comparison to work and RL of having to log into the game weekly.
We are now wandering into a philosophical, semantic discussion that I find boring. We could talk in circles forever over the existential inner workings of the brain, affects of society and culture over perceived pressures of RL and never get to an end upon which we both agree, especially when you start telling me of what I am and am not aware.
We appear disagree on a fundamental level about how to interact with the world. I have added all I can to this discussion.
Off to play now. -
Quote:What I am talking about here, from my perspective, is peer pressure and personal angst over what others have and do.MP, Pressure is everywhere. Pressure pumps blood through your body. Pressure is used to input keystrokes to this online boards. Pressure is what you do to your wife during "Grinding" :-) It's unavoidable.
I am sorry the sort of pressure I am referring to is unavoidable for you.
It is avoidable for me and many others I know.
*shrug* -
Quote:In RL the pressure is natural, for many, I know. Personally, keeping up with the Jones' is stupid, IMO.The pressure is natural. The desire to keep pace/stay in control and stay modern. Also, the fear of falling behind is another pressure. This is why you work and pay bills and maintain your relationships in life.
This is not work, nor is it RL. This is my point.
This is pretendy-happy-fun time, not real life.
The City is the place to get away from these pressures, not to add more of them, IMO. -
Quote:Users create pressure on themselves. The new system creates pressure on the users.... I had to come online monday after playing this weekend because the teams I was on just couldn't finish the WTF.
No one has to come online to play the game, period.
*shrug*
I don't understand why one would put this sort of pressure on themselves over a game.
I Just Don't.
As a stated up-thread, I have heard the reasons for years. The reasons are still funny to me, and illogical in the extreme, IMO. -
Quote:Official? *shrug*This is official definition of Grinding so we can all be on the same page...
Again, if I am not being entertained, I stop playing.
All MMOs are repetitive, I like MMOs, so I guess I like what the 'official' definition of 'grinding' is in some fashion, but I stop playing anything that is not entertaining.
Killing bad guys is generally always entertaining after dealing with RL all day.
Again, while I comprehend what others call a grind, I do not consider playing the game a grind and if it's not entertaining, I don't do it. In game or in RL, really.
As for everything in my life being fun and positive, nothing could be farther from the truth. However, I can choose how to spend my free time. Why would anyone spend their free time doing something they do not enjoy?
My playtime is just that, mine. I spend it doing fun things. I do not understand why other torture themselves over these things. My RL is full enough of drama and pain. Playtime does not get to cause me pain. -
Quote:While I understand your statement, the idea that playing a game I enjoy playing, in any way, can be a 'grind', using the term in a detrimental fashion, really is just funny to me.Ah, but you *could* have done it in a similar time by playing other content, so what you did was not a grind.
I just don't get it. I have been playing MMOs for many years and heard the term and the rationale behind it for that entire time. I play for fun, when it's not fun, I stop playing, or I stop playing the that part(s) I don't find fun.
I simply do not understand people that would keep playing something they do not like. Really, I do not understand why someone would ever do it. I have heard the reasons for years, they simply don't make any sense to me.
Play if it's fun, stop if it isn't. In my mind there are no other options.
There are too many fun and interesting things to do and play in this lifetime to spend time doing something you find to be a drag, IMO. -

Quote:I just took my last character from 35-50 running nothing but ITFs the week it was the WST.I like the ITF but I wouldn't want to have to level from 35 to 50 running only ITFs.
I will happily do the ITF again, anytime.
As I have posted many times recently, I just like killing bad guys. Personally, I do not focus on the rewards I am gaining while doing so, no do I focus overtly on the enemies I fight, although I do avoid a few enemy groups depending upon the weaknesses of the character and/or team.
The entire idea of 'grind' to me is actually kinda funny. I simply play the game, I get rewards, over time they add up and I get more powerful. Somehow, I call this playing the game and others call it a grind, using the term in some derogatory way, while I just have fun playing.

Quote:Anyone posting on the forums is a vocal minority, including myself. Is this the new go-to to avoid needing a decent argument?
Because, judging from this thread, the "small vocal minority on the forums" with criticisms about Praetoria isn't much different than the "small vocal minority on the forums" defending it. Funny how the pro- group is so many times larger and yet only a handful have managed to find their voice.
This is based upon hard evidence presented many time over the years.
My 'argument' is simply that forum posters are, in fact, a small minority of the playerbase and therefore should simply not be seen to represent any more than that.
Totaling all of the forums posters is still fraction of the playerbase.
Personally, I am not for or against most anything in the game. It is what it is, I play it because it provides me sufficient entertainment for the money. Harping on some specific part of it, crash-bugs aside, is just silly IMO.
In the end, I really should just stop reading the forums altogether, with the exception of the announcements and build advice areas, simply because game based forums are full of pedantic gamers that think they know better than the developers and love go on and on about irrelevant minutia. I don't stop reading simply because I like train wrecks and I enjoy laughing at people that complain yet still pay for the game. It's not like I don't have my own delusions just like everyone else.
And no, I am not referring to ALL posters. Just a large enough number to make me uneasy to tell people I am a gamer.
We all have our opinions and that is mine. If that offends anyone, then chances are they have already offended me, so ;P. -
Quote:I disagree vehemently. There is no single enemy group that's worthy of more than a year's worth of developmental effort. Period.
I am certain there are enemy group worth years on end of development time.
Just because a small portion of the vocal forum minority does not like, or is bored with, a certain group does not mean that there are not (possibly thousands of) players that love it and that want more of it.
Personally, I would love a years worth of development spent on the Rularuu alone, for instance.
Anyway, the only documented mass exodus periods of the game have been around changing systems, specifically systems that made our characters less powerful. The biggest exit poll complaint seems to have been 'no end game' as well. So, they are adding systems and end game.
Story lines or, more specifically focusing content around certain groups, does not gain, or retain, more than a small portion of the player base; I'll wager my mortgage on it. All it does is make a few detail focused players happy or unhappy. The masses do not care about the story from all the evidence I have encountered. -
Quote:Same here. But there isn't any lesson. I don't explore the depths of Battle Maiden's psyche and history to see how she turned evil and learn some lesson about intentions and morality. I just punch her in the face and continue to punch her in the face until she stops moving. And dodge blue patches of death while I do it.
I don't give a whoo-haa about what their motivations are or how they gained those motivations.
I just like crunching bad guys. -
I think I found a sweet spot with this next one.
130% Global recharge, Softcapped to S/L, 30% vs ranged and 27% in several others.
I am using the Musculature Alpha line.
Now to acquire it all. Might just be stripping down some other 50s for this one.

This is what I had in mind for changing the current build. Certainly not something I can do overnight, as I will have to save the Hero Merits for the PvP IO, not to mention the cash for the Purples I do not have.
I might move some sets like switching Confuse and Mass Confusion, possibly others, but this is the idea.
I get 125 Global and 45.1 S/L, making Domination perma on i't own, if I have done my research, even if I forget hasten now and then.
With all the Purples, I get some other interesting bonus totals as well, not to mention the exemplaring potential if I do it right.

Um...I have perma-dom and I am soft capped to S/L.
Granted, I have to remember to pop hasten, but I maintain domination.
I can even see, using the changes I mentioned in the first post, getting true perma-dom, at about 126 global recharge and keeping S/L soft cap.
As for Mass Hypnosis, no particular hate for it, it just did not seem to fit and when I had it I used it very little. I will choose it over something else if it gives me something I am missing.
And I was thinking of swapping Confuse and Mass Confuse, just to move the proc, or finding a slot for confuse to place it in and using the last Purple in Mass.

Hi all.
I can see a few ways to improve this guy, but I thought I would toss up his current build and get some feedback.
Mainly, I would love to get from 106.25 global recharge to 125+. I don't want to give up fly and hover.
I am thinking I could change stealth to maneuvers, get the 3% defense PvP IO and drop 2 kinetics combats, move some slots and then add 2 purple sets.
Just looking for other viewpoints.
