I knew there was a reason for my habit of always staring in Galaxy
[/ QUOTE ]
It is actually rude (and unheroic) to stare.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah but Galaxy Girl is so pretty...for a pixellated statue anyway...ahem -
I knew there was a reason for my habit of always staring in Galaxy

I didn't even know about that one, to me a spook has always been a ghost.

The profanity filter has always been one of the worse aspects of this game. The things that get on the 'bad word list' are so ridiculous it's amazing that they even have the audacity to use it.
You know you're in trouble when a three letter word beginning with G and ending with D frequently used to describe your favourite diety is also on the banned list.
It wouldn't even let me use the word 'Siren' in the custom mob name. I had to stick an e on the end. -
[ QUOTE ]
I was extremly suprised when they said mobs would give full rewards. I would happily make use of it for no reward at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
I suspect you'd be one of very few. There has to be something to encourage people to try out these new arcs and levelling is what I imagine most people who play an MMO expect to be able to do. -
[ QUOTE ]
Make a post decrying how no-one will know about your arc (tick that one off!)

Every little bit helps -

I'm getting a little depressed now with the pap that's in there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Me too to be honest, I've just finished an arc based on Lucy Dreamtime (you may remember her from a police scanner mission). I put quite a lot of effort into putting some sort of story together with a coherent transfer from mission to mission. It was quite depressing to see that it was number 90148 in the list. Nobody is going to stumble across that with 90k coming before it. The number of 'test' and 'incomplete' arcs that have been published is ludicrous and completely masks anything written with any sort of attempt at a storyline. -
[ QUOTE ]
One feature which I would like on the mission searcher "filter out all arcs containing defeat all". And that would solve this issue as far as I'm concerned.
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally I don't like defeat alls but I added one to my Lucy Dreamtime arc (not yet published) because it was necessary for the story. It's on a tiny map and is something you'd do anyway as you worked your way through. I'd hate to see 5 defeat alls in an arc but one on a small map isn't much to get worked up over. I think avoiding every arc with even a single defeat all would serously cut down your options for finding decent arcs. -
Do you need to tell McAfee to allow it again? Sometimes firewalls take things out of their 'allow' lists when the files have changed.

There are three methods of dealing with disturbing material published by other people:
Method1: Ignore it and hope it goes away when people grow tired of complaining about it.
Method 2: Ban it the moment a complaint is received or do a keyword search without doing any proper research yourself then wait for the author to query the ban.
Method 3: Examine the material yourself to decide if it needs to be banned or changed then take steps to sort it out with the author.
Method 1 is obviously not an option given the rod NC made for their own backs with their anti-farming mantra.
Method 2 is the one preferred by our politicians and people who are overworked. It allows them to deal with the maximum number of complaints while minimising the amount of work they have to do. It also allows them to blame someone else when it all goes wrong and gives them lots of lovely stats to show how much work they've done - look at the thousands we've banned already...
Method 3 is the methed we would all like to see adopted but with so many people publishing and so few monitoring, use of this method is little more than a pipe dream.
While I hate to see method 2 adopted so readily, with over 80,000 arcs published in just a few days, I can't really blame them for doing it. Hopefully things will settle a bit soon and the devs will be able to take a more proactive role in this sort of thing.
I don't know how you'd challenge this though, I did try to look on the support site for options but it's down again. Maybe raise a petition to ask a GM in game? -
[ QUOTE ]
I can understand if you think it may be potentially offensive. If anyone truly objects to it (it was 'Hey nice costume $name, your boyfriend made that for ya?' for those curious) then I'll happily take it out.
[/ QUOTE ]
How about making it a gender neutral "your momma made it for ya?". Just as insulting to a super powered villian or hero without giving anyone out in the real world an excuse to feel insulted... -

i think taking such a long downtime on a friday afternoon after a hard weeks work for us all makes u feel kinda upset.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd almost forgotten it was Friday! Thinking about it though, it's probably better that they resolve any major issues before the weekend if they can. Downtime on Saturday or Sunday really would get some complaints... -

time will fly by

Lets hope nobody shoots it down, could be a bit awkward with no heroes around to save the day. -

so am not the only one that sees servers are up but is prompted to the start ? am trying to log and cant
says something about nc soft is testing my account?
[/ QUOTE ]
They're not testing your account, they're testing the changes they made in todays update. We're all affected, that's why we're wibbling on about chocolate and cheetahs instead of doing something useful. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, as we all know the servers are run by hamsters running around on big wheels. They're probably feeding the hamsters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe they're replacing the hamsters with cheetahs -
Just do what I do when the servers are down - go eat some chocolate
-
[ QUOTE ]
This is getting annoying. Its gone under maintenance nearly every day this week. Not even anything even explaining why its down. It has over run yet no one has informed us of anything yet. Where do we send in complaints too exactly? Because it looks as though no one checks the forums very often.
[/ QUOTE ]
The servers go down for maintenance every day, always have done. The only change is the time of day, for some reason they're doing it in the middle of the day instead of early in the morning (our time). I'd guess it's probably something to do with the Mission Architect so they needed to take the whole lot down at once.
If you try to log in you get a message saying the servers are not accessible to non staff accounts while they test things. It is a bit frustrating but it's hardly the end of the world, it's only a game after all -
I thought the message was clear enough - access to the server is restricted to staff accounts while they test todays build. There's not much more than that we can tell you.
It would be nice if they gave us some warning (rather than the 30 minute in game broadcast) though. Must be a big test to have to take all the servers down at the same time - something to do with the MA presumably... -
[ QUOTE ]
I am wondering if the lack of play and ratings is because it has been lost in the shuffle
[/ QUOTE ]
Highly likely. I published one this morning and within two minutes it had vanished off the first page (reverse sorted by date). There are over 70k arcs now. -
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps because much of the enthusiasm for the MA played itself out in the two betas.
[/ QUOTE ]
I suspect a lot of that has to do with the 70k+ arcs published in the first few days, few of which would win many awards for originality or playablility. -
[ QUOTE ]
perhaps an extra hamster is needed
[/ QUOTE ]
Or another hamster trainer with a chair and whip... -
Lots of mapserver errors in the last couple of days, mainly on MA missions - testing or playing. Also temporarily losing capes when exiting MA editor - what's that about???
-
[ QUOTE ]
ty - i did that and i hit 20 in like an hour or two (:
[/ QUOTE ]
Have any fun doing it? -
Not a bad idea in itself but that's FAR too complicated for me.

An open rating system like this should filter out 'silly' values. If hundreds of votes are 4's and 5's and one person gives it a 1, there's something not right.
I don't like these sorts of systems but with the ludicrous number of arcs published, I suppose it's the only way - there's no way the devs could play through every single way and rate them themselves
