  1. I don't know if anyone else is getting this, but I keep crashing during the second mission since login. It doesn't matter if the missions are in different zones, or if I switch characters. The game will run indefinitely if I only do one mission, as far as I can tell. There have been numerous occasions when I'd do one mission, spend a couple hours crafting/marketing/updating costumes without a crash, then start another mission and crash partway through.

There was a lot of strong solar activity earlier this month, including one of the strongest solar flares yet recorded, as well as a huge coronal mass ejection. Fortunately, due to the angle of impact and partial alignment with the earth's magnetosphere, it didn't cause too much trouble.

Also, here's what NASA has to say about 2012: http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html

Basically, as far as we know, there's no impending doom coming from space.

Also, the sun aligns with the galactic center every year when it moves through the constellation Sagittarius(http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/fea...alignment.html).
  3. With the way that so many people are freaking out about the latest doomsday prophecy, I can't help but wonder if a future end-of-the-world prediction will end up being self-fulfilling: a lot of people panic, they mess everything up, and life as we know it is ruined.
  4. I got fed up. I tried various methods for installing the new drivers, and they didn't work, so I got a better power supply and a GeForce 560 graphics card.

    It still crashes.

I don't think the graphics card is the problem.

I've done a bit more testing on the nature of the crash; it always crashes some time during the second mission since I logged in to that character. Logging out to character screen or login screen and then logging back in to the same character doesn't help. Having the second mission in a different zone from the first doesn't help. If I only do one mission, I can stay on indefinitely without crash as far as I can tell (I spent a while editing costumes, crafting IOs, and selling/buying on the market without problems, until I tried a second mission, which caused a crash). I'm going to see if switching off between two characters (doing one mission with one, switching to another, then switching back) will prevent the crash, but I'm not too hopeful. This whole thing is pretty crazy. Is anyone else having this problem?
  5. At this point, I'm probably just going to get a better graphics card, since this one isn't that good anyway, apparently.
  6. Okay, serious WTF moment...

I clicked the uninstall button, like you asked (omg, everything's huge and pixellated), and then installed the 12.2

I checked device manager, like before and it says EXACTLY THE SAME THING!!!!

    See?!

    What is going on here?!
  7. I was checking the specs for my graphics card on the AMD website and I noticed something interesting: it said that a 400W power supply is recommended. I don't know if this could be related to the problem I'm having, but I'm wondering what (if anything) it means in terms of getting a new graphics card.
  8. Okay, I downloaded the drivers from that link (12.2), the computer did it's automatic restart, I went to Device Manager-->display adapters-->AMD Radeon HD 7450-->properties-->driver to see if it said 12.2, but...

    WTH?

I'm seriously reaching the limit of my patience, here. I'm seriously considering just saying "to hell with it" and getting a better graphics card.

Looks like the same old drivers. Can you uninstall the drivers and run the latest version?

I coulda sworn I downloaded this already...
  10. Okay, I ran HWmonitor in the background while playing, waited for the game to crash, then took a screenshot of the HWmonitor window. I then reset the min/max and did the same thing again:

    screenshot 1:

    screenshot 2:

In case you can't see, the max graphics card temp. in both cases was about 150 degrees.

I downloaded the latest drivers as suggested. I'm currently downloading the hardware monitor, so I'll post what it says once it's done.
  12. I turned the settings down (and in many cases, off) and it still freezes and crashes every 20-30 minutes. /e frustrated

It may be overheating as microc suggested, but I honestly have no idea what the problem is.
  13. Thanks for the help! It really sux that my graphics card sux. I'll try dialing down the fx and I'll let you know how that works (although I can't help thinking that I should've thought of that... *facepalm*).

Also, if I get a chance to get a better graphics card, what would you tech gurus recommend?

  15. I get a little bit of lag, but not much. Then, the screen freezes, the little "your computer is thinking" teal circle comes up, and a box pops up saying "City of Heroes has encountered an error and needs to close."

This is extremely frustrating, especially since I just got this computer recently. Please Help!

FYI, I'm not very technically inclined (you might even say technically disinclined), so... yeah. Fortunately, I read Hyperstrike's guide so here you go:

    Agreed.

That said, yeah, I'd pay for it. I'd pay for it even if they did an overt cash grab, such as announcing you can buy it now for many points or wait six months and then get it free. I'd buy it the instant it became available, because powersets and costumes are what make the game for me, and costuming powersets is a big part of that. In the end, I care a lot more about that than I do about how they finance getting it done. I just want it done.
If they insist on having a pay-or-wait set-up, it depends on the price. I actually don't have too many characters who use pool powers other than fly and the fighting powerset.

However, if Epic & Patron powerset customizations were included (and they really SHOULD be), I'd definitely be too impatient to wait 6 months.

    Factions

I like this idea, and I have a few characters who would use it for sure.

Interesting potential issue: If my villain decides to join, say, the Circle of Thorns, would CoT still attack her? How could she still do missions where she had to fight them? It would be hard to justify IC.

This doesn't seem to be too much of an issue for heroes because heroic factions generally get along with each other, or at least avoid physical conflict, but villainous factions tend to fight each other at the drop of a hat.
  18. This is why I wish there was an option to convert tokens into points.

Make the power work like a break-free and during the time the power is 'up' give them mez resistance, some small amount of unenhanceable mitigation(def, res, or regen) and a chance to proc extra damage on attacks along the lines of firey embrace. At the very least this would require a recharge increase, but at least the powers wouldn't be debatably useful.

It'd work partly as that 'get out of mez free' power people keep wanting to show up in at least some blaster powersets and partly as a viable alpha strike on a group of difficult enemies.

Of course, as I said it's probably horribly overpowered and will never happen. I still kind of like the idea of it though.
It's a nice idea. It would give blasters time to kill anything that may have survived the nuke without dropping toggles/draining the inspiration tray.

I normally avoid nukes, but this would actually make them usable for me. *thumbs up*

Don't worry I'm not really hating on Star Trek - just making a general ironic observation...
Probably because the special effects and digital touch-ups haven't been added yet.

This will create a button that when clicked will make your powers that have visible effects around you invisible. You will no longer see the spikey effects around your feet from Superspeed. You will no longer see the layer of ice around you from Frozen Armor. You will no longer see the flames from Blazing Aura.

If you want to create a button that will turn your visible effects back on:

    /macro FX 0 "SupressCloseFx 0"
Does this work on the eternally annoying glowing hands from Hasten?

...I kinda like it, actually. It seems appropriate, probably because I play piano IRL.
  23. I'm not much of a number-cruncher, but I'd like to chip in my 2 inf anyway.

I've got a StJ/WP brute that I absolutely love. Brutes are a bit tougher in general, and Rise to the Challenge benefits from the brute's taunting. As for StJ, even on a scrapper I'd probably rush from mob to mob anyway to use finishing moves to their fullest advantage, which means that, on a brute, keeping fury up isn't really a problem.

All in all, my StJ/WP brute is a blast to play. My vote is for a brute.
  24. I like using "Committed" for my more-than-slightly-insane characters. It's not the way they intended it, but still....
  25. I took Chronobot (bots/time MM) and Bravery (BS/WP brute), so I thought I'd check for some more available names if anyone wants them.
