Quote:Even the TV show has killed off a number of characters already. I don't think it's going to save the rest of them at this point just for the sake of "filler". Besides if you guys are right they just killed off an innocent girl last episode.I haven't read the comic, so I'm just going based on the television show.
I know how Shane died in the comics, and I have to say that I hope he stays around in the television show.
He's probably my favorite character.
He's a flawed, but good man. (Can only speak to the TV Show-- he may have been a thorough rotter in the comic). And I find his journey more interesting because of that.
-
If he could "feel" them he could have pulled them all out at that point. No, I'm pretty sure he clearly said 6 pieces because when he pulled the one out he made the distinct point that "I got the shallowest of the SIX pieces - the other 5 are deeper and harder to get to.
Again I just found it goofy that writers decided to stress 6 exact pieces. They didn't have to make up an arbitrary number like that to make the tension any more dramatic there. -
Quote:I'm willing to accept the general idea of "balls" in the context of TV shows being purely subjective as well. I like most of the shows you listed for fairly different reasons. *shrugs*I don't really buy the basic cable reasoning, though. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Shield, Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy: basic cable, still had balls. I enjoy Kirkman's gutsy storytelling style, and that's what made the comic for me, and I'm seeing none of it here. It's also hard for me to believe it'll get better in that department when it can't bring itself to kill off characters that should already be dead. It has me wondering what else they'll drag out for the sake of filler.

Quote:I also think Sophia is dead and that it is perfectly valid to never see her again and never find out her fate. May not be satisfying for the audience, but I think it's much more real. They should eventually move on, always wondering if they did the right thing. "What if we'd waited one more day?"I think it might be somewhat "realistic" if we never heard from Sophia again given the circumstances. I still just don't see that happening in her case. The show already played that card with Merle anyway. We don't really need another character "disappearing" like that.Quote:Pretty much how I feel about it as well. Finding her dead would be dramatic, but not near as dramatic as not finding her and then having the group decide how long is "long enough" to search for her and move on.
I could see where they might play out the mystery of what happened to her a few more episodes. That would give them plenty of time to cover all the "What if we'd waited one more day?" drama then she could suddenly pop out of nowhere when they least expect it. -
Quote:Yes the scene with Andrea getting attacked was a little bit contrived. *shrugs*At the very least, Andrea was walking out of sight of the rest of the group, which seems ridiculously stupid given that she doesn't have a firearm. I figured if you were doing a search, you'd want to remain in sight of the people on your left or right and spread out enough to cover some ground.
Also, that was a pretty Ninja zombie... no sound until he was right on top of her. I get the dramatic reason for putting her in danger again (so she can be pissed at Dale again and become even more unstable), but I think it was handled in a ham-fisted way.
The part of this episode that baffled me the most is when the doctor somehow determined that the bullet in Carl's gut had somehow broken into 6 pieces. How did he come up with that exact number without X-rays or being able to dig into the boy more than an inch or two? That seemed a little bit like "drama for drama's sake" to me. -
Quote:I look at it from the other way around: if they were constantly running from zombies and fighting for their lives every minute of every episode I'd quickly get burned out watching it. You can only have so much "life-n-death" action every minute of every day. I think this show manages to find a balance between having some meaningful action and the "down-times" where they can recoup and worry about the next attack.I have a friend that literally hates the show and stopped watching early in season 1, mostly because of episodes like this one where there was nonexistant zombie activity (until the last few minutes). Its easy for me to see that since hes more of a straight action genre type of guy, hes not going to enjoy the show as much as I do.
I remain convinced that someone has found Sophia and that she's safe somewhere. At the very least I think even if she's dead and/or zombified they are going to find her that way if only to resolve her fate for the audience's sake. I think it would be very weird if we don't at least learn what happened to her.Quote:Speaking of last night's episode: can we give up on Sophia yet?
Two days in the woods where we know random Walkers are stalking and she hasn't been found. I think she's gone. Which means her mother won't be around much longer either, by way of direct check-out or abandoning the group to search for her daughter.
Well you've got to remember he's still dealing with the weird emotions of thinking that Rick was dead and he was getting very used to seeing himself as Carl's adoptive father. I think deep down he's a good man but he's conflicted over his feelings between Rick and Lori. In a very real sense these three characters are a zombie apocalypse equivalent of King Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere. Shane (Lancelot) loves Rick (Arthur) as a trusted friend and brother, but he also loves Lori (Guinevere) despite her marriage to Rick and he's going to have to come to terms with how he's going to live with all that. -
Quote:I think it'd be cool if every zone had at least a few hidden places like this and that they all had explore badges associated with them. It'd give new meaning to having to actually "explore" the game.It was found early in the reveal. But, to date, no in-game use has been discovered except as a place for players to explore.

Quote:Well there's going to be two things that will hamper this show no matter how well intentioned they are and both of those things are based on the fact that it's on a basic cable network. One is that they can't do anything R-rated so that limits the overall level of violence, gore and/or extreme situations - the "balls" that you mentioned. The other is that they don't have a huge budget to make the show so they are likely going to have to make shortcuts to the story because of that.I wasn't really referring to you. I just get a sense from all the attention it gets from the internet and the media that folks are buying into the notion that this is the "it" show now. And I can't figure why that is, beyond some of the makeup effects. It's not particularly well-written, directed, or acted, and most of the characters aren't very interesting.
I say this having read the comic series up to the last hardcover, so I suppose I'd say this show is missing the key ingredient that made the comic so enjoyable for me. Essentially, it has no balls.
I'll continue watching in the hopes it improves. After all, I didn't think the comic started hitting on all cylinders until they settled in a location, but the way things are dragging along, I'm afraid they'll add so much that the series will burn out and get cancelled before they introduce key characters and events that made the comic so engaging.
Again I don't think this is the best show ever made. But accepting the limitations it's having to deal with being on AMC I'm willing to cut it some slack. It's already far more interesting than most TV on the air now and as Mental_Giant said it's almost an "original" concept for a TV show, or at least as original as any TV usually gets now-a-days.
At the very least it'll be interesting to see how it ends up differing from the comic book. It may not prove to be "better" than the original story but it might prove to be worthwhile as a completely new reformulation of the story. -
Quote:For what it's worth I've never really "raved" about this series. If you ever read my comments about the first series last year you'd know that pretty well.Am I the only one who's been unimpressed with this series? I feel like I'm going crazy with everyone raving about it.
Despite that there are some moments that are good and interesting about this show. The basic premise is sound and it has a lot of room to work into something cool. Granted there are also some moments that are mind-numbingly silly as well, but like most things everything is relative. For instance I'd rate this show, for all it's faults, about a zillion times more enjoyable than Terra Nova.

I'm pretty sure all we have is the Murder of Crows CCE and the Bats Aura. The confusion lies in that you can get the Bats Aura from both the in-game trial and the Paragon Market. If you already have the Bats Aura from the Paragon Market I'm pretty sure you don't have to choose it from the trial even though it will let you choose it. Basically the trial apparently can't tell that you already own it in that case. *shrugs*

Quote:One more tiny reason I enjoy playing my human-form only Peacebringer.Problem with this badge is that a stone tank can activate the costume power and still use granite without the costume turning off, but a Kheldian cannot transform to squid or dwarf mode as that will turn off the power.
I didn't have any problem at all with this badge on her.
In all seriousness it is crummy that those costume powers disrupt other AT powers. But this trial is so relatively easy that I imagine most people can cope with it for a few minutes. *shrugs* -
Quote:Let's say for the sake of argument there are 1,000 known bugs in this game. Let's also say for the sake of argument that on average the Devs manage to fix 50 of them while working on the kinds of feature-rich Issues we've been getting all along. If the Devs were to switch gears and work on a "fix nothing but bugs" Issue they might, if they were lucky, knock out say 200 bugs. That leaves us with 800 bugs. You know I took the text of my OP out and put it into Word, and even word couldn't find where I asked for "all bugs" to be fixed.
If I inadvertently gave that impression somehow, please accept my apologies and consider this a retraction.
I am just asking for an issue's worth of effort be sent on fixing known bugs.
Can you (or anyone) say with absolute certainty that the difference between a game with 800 bugs would be so much better than a game with 950 bugs that it'd be worth giving up an entire Issue's worth of new features? I think you'd find that the trade-off was ultimately not worth it. -

Quote:They've been toying with things to do with water at least as far back as that little pool you can swim underwater in outside the western wall of Grandville.Sorry for the minor derail, but this reminded me: Has anything ever been said about underwater plans after the teaser in the cimerora caves?

But someone just mentioned that you can "wade" through the water in the pools outside the Kane haunted house in this year's Halloween trial so apparently they seem to still be trying to do different things with it. -
Quote:Yep I have nothing against having a "default CCE" option either but until that happens it's easy enough to set that kind of thing up in a bindfile.Although yes, it'd be pretty cool if you could set a default cce. It'd be nice if it came along with a slash command to set it (so it could be done via /optionload)
TBH, I'd rather have the option to have a changeable "default stance" instead of having to fire off an emote every time I'm standing still.

Quote:It's a nice idea in theory at any rate...I would like for the Devs to take an issue and devote it to fixing the various bugs in game. It would make having new content more meaningful if the new content worked and if it didn't break old content. As I understand it, there're various bugs that have existed for years. I think that it would do wonders for VIP morale. I think it would improve the game and make it more fun for everyone.
AFAICT, the only downside to fixing bugs us that it costs dev time. Which, arguably, they're going to spend working on something anyway.
So, what is the best way to communicate this desire to the devs?
The fault in your logic though is believing that there could ever be a time when they could fix all bugs in a game like this. As a software engineer with nearly 20 years of professional experience I can tell you that with applications as large as this game it's effectively impossible to fix every bug. Trust me when I (and others like Aett_Thorn and Tyger42) say it wouldn't happen even if the Devs ONLY worked on fixing existing bugs for the next 100 Issues.
So when you realize the idea that the Devs could just step back and spend a little time fixing everything before adding anything new is a pipe-dream then you'll understand why they'll never bother trying a "fix only existing bugs" Issue. *shrugs* -
Well maybe they'll pre-plan a trilogy this time instead of having a single huge hit that they decided to "retrofit" into being a trilogy.
-
You have to spend time running around the gravestones to get more of them to pop up. Basically avoid killing the boss for a few minutes while you rack up the zombie kills. Turns out to be relatively easy that way - I ran a PUG trial last night and we got all three badges with around 4 minutes to spare on the clock.
Good luck.

Quote:Yep like Cowman said he's making money with his songs -because- he can't really sing.
I've liked him for years but it's even... debatable-whether... he... could... ever-act... either.

Quote:On one level it's pretty sad to see a big network TV show use toy guns painted black as props, but on the other hand I guess it does save them a ton of money. TBH I never noticed them using Nerf guns because there's so much else to poke fun at while watching Terra Nova the crummy props are the least of their problems. Then run down to the toy store and then to the hardware store for some spray paint.
They can always add muzzle flashes in post.
I'm almost surprised we didn't see one of the girls from Sucker Punch use a gun like this.Quote:Of course that rule goes out the window with something like this.

Interesting. This is the first time I've ever heard of this so I would lean toward the "unintential feature" side of things. One would think that if that was supposed to be an official new way to travel from PI it would've been in a patch note somewhere.

I could see that the theory behind "powers that need defeated foes to work" are based on the idea that they need freshly dead and/or substantial bodies to draw upon. The Devs may have decided that zombies are already so decayed and rotten that those power can't work with them. It's as good a rationale as any. *shrugs*

Quote:From what it sounds like it doesn't seem like the critters in this trial are overly difficult to deal with. Just make sure you do it with 3 other people who can cover for your unusual level of squishiness. This sucks for characters with, say, Shadow Fall or Steamy Mist, that are squishy and need the defense.
