Good because according to Zwillinger we used to have fly, run or jump all over the city looking for contacts and we LIKED it that WAY!

Yep that's all we need here to make me avoid AP even more.

There's just one slight problem with applying "the majority of the wealth in the game is held by a very small percentage of the population" concept in this game: the game can generate an infinite supply of Influence for everyone. There are no real life "economic" barriers keeping any player from sitting on 100 billion Influence if they want to.

The only reason there are only a handful of people in this game who are multi-billionaires is because there's apparently only a handful of people who are bothering to figure out how to make multi-billions of Influence. It's not that hard, but it does take some effort and knowledge.

At the very least the "99 percenters" of this game can't claim it's unemployment or lack of opportunities that are keeping them down.

Yes, I too have always wanted them, but it was way cooler to see them on somebody who earned them then somebody who just purchased them.
In the case of these costume codes how could you ever tell whether the person wearing one ever paid for it or not?
You do know people were buying these things via third parties right?

Your elitist concept of "earned glory" versus "purchased glory" might apply to something like being upset that the Zookeeper badge was reduced from 10,000 Rikti monkeys to 1,000 Rikti monkeys. I could see where someone who had earned the 10,000 version badge might be a little upset that they wasted the time to get the extra 9,000 monkeys they didn't need anymore.

But this idea that you're upset that people can now buy a few costume codes that you previously had to be lucky enough to go to a real life convention to get is just plain laughable. I can understand people being upset about their confused concepts of exclusivity, but this pretty much takes the cake for silliness.

You do understand that there's a very large difference between calling something "exclusive" and that same something being PERMANENTLY exclusive don't you? I have absolutely no problem with people getting free codes from conventions which are exclusive for a certain period of time. But likewise I have absolutely no problem with those codes eventually being offered for sale in the Paragon Market either.

Get over yourself with these silly notions...

I suppose it'd be better for it to "fail" that way than the other way around.

I've personally never had an amount of influence above 750 million at any one time, and that was spent almost immediately. The majority of players in the game are probably in a similar situation. Just like real life, the majority of the wealth in the game is held by a very small percentage of the population.
I agree completely that the 2 billion cap is only going to be a "problem" for a handful of players at most.

Like I implied in my first post in this thread the 2 billion cap was clearly designed at the beginning to be a "more than enough" limit for most people. It was only through the advent of things like the markets and AE farming that it even became realistically possible for average players to hit the cap. Before the markets I had barely managed to pass the 200 million mark on any of my characters much less the 2 billion mark.

As long as as there's only a small minority of "ebil" marketeers and there are alternatives like storing your Influence in emails or the market the Devs are probably not going to see a need to increase this limit.

Yeah like the others have talked about I've only sold a couple of high priced PvP IOs myself, but I know some people do that fairly routinely.

The level I usually "play" the market at nets me about 1 billion a week, and I can get that much with only putting in about 10 minutes of time per day on it. I don't farm or flip anything to get that amount - all I do is buy, craft and sell certain recipes that I've learned have a fairly reliable rate of return. Obviously there are ways to earn more Influence faster, but at this point I don't really need it.
  8. Well when you think about it the term "supernatural" is a probably broad enough that you could cover stories dealing with both superheroes and horror related to super-human powers/phenomena under its umbrella. Based on that it's easy to see how some stories could blur the line between the two. For instance there's not really all that much difference between the Incredible Hulk and Jekyll and Hyde.
  9. It's funny but with no shirt and ripped up pants these pics of Cavill look more like he's making an Incredible Hulk movie than a Superman movie.

I agree completely, and that's probably the case here.

Changing the actual Influence data type would not be the hard part - the hard part would be making sure that all the other areas of the game that relied on the way it was continued to work correctly. I'm guessing it would probably entail a solid amount of tedious testing, and the Devs have likely decided that it's currently not worth the effort. *shrugs*

Thanks for the info. Strange they didn't make more of a big deal out it in a patch note somewhere.

Kind of sounds like what was meant to be a Dev-only testing command that they released for general use. I'm still hoping they'll eventually improve the Paragon Market GUI so that we won't have to rely on a command line command like this.
  13. This is interesting. Has this command be in there for a while or did they just sneak it in as a stop-gap measure before they figure out how to make this kind of info available inside the Paragon Market?
  14. Not that I'm aware of. Your best bet would be to keep at least one character on "permanent hide" so that you can use that one to log into to see if it's "safe" for any of your other characters to log in. Each character's hide settings are permanent to that character - if you set all of your characters to full /ghide then they'll all stay that way until you change them regardless of logging.

To be nit-picky this is the first time the Devs have ever sold these kinds of costume powers. They were technically only available to a very small minority of the playerbase until now. So for the vast majority of players these are in fact "new" items.

Sure, but then again I just transfer hundreds of millions of Influence back and forth and just buy whatever I need on whatever character needs it.

Yeah I vaguely remembered that this was the only one of the 4 Shard TFs that didn't let you run it at 50.

But my thinking is that if you're running it with a number of up-to-date Incarnate slotted characters that those characters are likely going to be pretty top notch even with their specific Incarnate powers turned off. I know that my fully slotted, fully Incarnated characters tend to completely mow over any of that old lower level content.

There is actually no fundamental software reason why the current 2 billion INF limit couldn't be raised. Don't let those code geeks* fool you with their fancy technobabble excuses.

But it is reasonable to suspect that any increase in this value would come with some risk of breaking various parts of this game and it would require a decent amount of regression testing. The Devs are going to have to become convinced that the need to increase this value is worth the time and effort to change it correctly. Basically they have not reached that point and it's not clear they ever will.

    * FYI, I've been a software engineer for almost 20 years so I know a little about being a "code geek".

By simple logic your comment that Paragon Studios should not base their prices on what the third-party market will bear was a direct criticism of their $6 price point. If you want to try to distance yourself from the logical connection you were trying to make then more power to you.

As for "winning my next imaginary argument" I think I'll do pretty well since I do pretty well with the real ones like this.

To keep it in perspective I've been a long time forum poster and reader since the beginning of this game and I can tell you that I've basically never seen the kind of general hate and annoyance over a trial that I've seen over Keyes. Clearly -something- was wrong with it in the minds of many people.

I think the fact that the Devs decided to modify Keyes pretty much shows us that they were convinced it needed to be changed. They don't go through the effort to change things like this just based on a handful of suggestions or for a few random "whiners" here or there.

The only "flaw" I see in Paragon Studios' pricing here is you thinking there is a flaw here.

You and I both know that these costume codes are not technically "worth" the $50+ dollars some people paid for them from places like eBay. And I never said that because they sold for $50+ elsewhere that Paragon Studios was automatically "justified" in charging $6 for them in their store.

But by the same token if there are in fact people out there who will pay $50+ for these things then it's a good bet there are other people who will pay at least $6 for them. If you can name me a business that would choose NOT to charge X amount of money for a completely optional vanity item when there are clearly people out there who will pay X amount for that item then I would be very surprised indeed.

You can't really equate this to something like the value of a collector comic you could buy from anyone. This is a purely "charge what the market will bear" situation coming from a sole-source vendor. As long as there are people out there willing to pay $6 for this thing that's how much Paragon Studios will charge for it and I would expect nothing less from them or any other company. *shrugs*

There was a time in this game years before the markets when it was almost impossible to get to that 2 billion mark. Now there are various ways to earn 2 billion in just a few days or even via one recipe transaction. I continue to wonder if that 2 billion cap will ever get raised, but at this point the Devs don't seem to have any intention of doing so.

I just don't see it ever happening.

Besides I don't think my heroes and villains would ever want to directly "share" stuff to begin with.
