Quote:I remember back when people considered BAFs and LAMs to be semi-impossible. Now the idea of -failing- them seems semi-impossible.So far, whether on beta or live, I have not seen a successful new iTrial.
I'm certain leagues will find a way to succeed semi-consistently, but unless the reward outweighs the uncertainty of success, the longer form time, and % chance of failure (as any one league member not paying attention can fail the league), I forsee more BAF/LAMs being run, as they will still remain the most profitable for time invested.
Still, nice to have some variation available.
I figure these new trials will take a week or two before most people learn how to do them and they become "easy". Besides we don't even have the next batch of Incarnate powers available - I'm sure by the time we have those these new trials will be considered fairly routine. -
Quote:The OP actually mentioned that one - Preemptive. The one exception is if I'm running something with a decent amount of end drain, I'll probably take the one that has that as the secondary effect. I don't remember the name of it.
I could see where Cognitive would be really useful for those maximizing any Confuse effects and maybe Spectral for people interested in Immobilizing enemies. Beyond that I'd really have to consider what would work best for the character versus the character concept. Ultimately I could see just about any of them being the "best" given the proper circumstances. -

Despite the math there's also a pretty simple bit of marketing psychology going on here. Sure if the game gave me some kind of "VIP discount" I could figure out how to best utilize it but it would always be a vague concept that I'd have to "indirectly intellectualize" in order to fully appreciate. On the other hand all I have to do with a bonus 150 points is to look at my total available points and I'll be motivated to use MORE of them because I'll unconsciously rationalize that "I might as well spend them because I already have them to spend".
Basically it's a subtle marketing maneuver to get people willing to spend more points than they otherwise would have. Making my total point number look bigger is going to be far more enticing to me than forcing me to have to do -any- extra discount math (no matter how simple that math might be). -
I think the only reason anyone might have considered Reactive to be the "best" one was that it used to be the only one that provided a serious DoT effect. I honestly think that was the primary reason why we got the new ones because now we have at a least a few different options that include a similar DoT.
-
I realize that dealing with figuring out discount percentages is like 3rd grade math but getting a simple 150 additional points per month is like 1st grade math. Since there seems to be a question about how the generic math works in this case anyway it might be prudent to let the game stick to the "Keep It Simple Stupid" principle and avoid what appears to be the extra confusion here. *shrugs*

Quote:Why do you think Paragon Studios has finally decided to sell these codes themselves.Color me impressed - and here I was getting ready to report this thread for RMT trading
I just might be interested in trading for one of those codes - sent me a PM or ingame tell and let me know what you'd be willing to accept
At any rate it's cool The_Masque actually wants to trade these instead of wanting to know what the "market" for them is.
That was probably something that should not have been asked about in the first place... -
Quote:Well ideally I'd tell my friends to give me a dose of the zombie virus cure we found at Fort Benning.New question;
Your're done for. End of the line. Zombie came outta the blue and took a chunk outta you while you slayed it.
Your 2nd in command raises his gun to finish you off.
What do you say?
But if I got attacked before we had the cure then I guess I'd want to strap some dynamite to my vest and wade into a huge group of walkers and blow them all away. At least that would spare my friends from having to take the personal responsibility of having to pull the trigger on me themselves. -
Quote:Coming up with a fun catch phrase is fine enough. But the problem with claiming EVERYTHING in a TV show is the epitome of lazy storytelling and lazy parenting is that you quickly neuter the meaning of the word "epitome". It's sort of like how some people say everything is "awesome" - if everything was described as being awesome then what would you call something that was -really- awesome.Conan homage or no (I agreed last time you pointed this out and great observation)...its just the epitome of lazy storytelling and lazy parenting.
Thanks CF, thats my new thing now

The irony in this case is that there are some truly legitimate examples of lazy storytelling and lazy parenting in this TV show. But when you try to gloss over the good parts pretending that it's ALL bad then I think you're doing a disservice to what makes the TV show worthwhile. Especially when you consider the comic book itself is far from being the epitome of great storytelling. In fact the more of the comic I manage to read the more I'm realizing it's got plenty of those failings of its own. Basically neither the TV show nor the comic are "that much better" than the other in these regards. They both ultimately have their own strengths and weaknesses and always will. -
Well if you want to find out what the "market will bear" I'd check to see if any of them are still up for sale on eBay.

Regardless, if your intention is to sell them you'd probably ought to find someone willing to pay before Paragon Studios eventually sells them for $6.00 worth of points on the Paragon Market. -
Quote:Even though I learned the lesson years ago of "getting badges while they are hot" sometimes you can't take advantage of that.Man was I silly...1 mission that might have taken 10 minutes at the most instead of grinding and killing my toons (and a friend's toons) over-and-over for 3 nights until we got the badge...
And luckily I did get the MoLambda badges before they are what they are now....
My main badger is currently lacking several MoKeyes badges simply because when the Keyes trial first went live I was serving aboard a Navy ship as a government contractor. There was literally no way I could play the game for several months during that timeframe because I had no access to the Internet (or at least not the kind of access that would have allowed me to play a MMO while at sea). This basically means that since the few dozen people who would care about getting those badges already have them it's proven fairly difficult to organize any kind of a group that wants to bother with them now.
I'll probably eventually get them, especially once the next wave of Incarnate powers are released which'll make that trial even easier, but for the moment it's relatively frustrating. I don't mind hard badges but it sucks to have to rely on like a dozen or more other people wanting to work on them too. Oh well... -
Quote:I think some are still missing the point with the "Carl takes the tools from the corpse" scene. I still contend (like I mentioned several weeks ago) that it was an obvious homage to the "Conan taking the Atlantan sword from Crom" scene. If you watch this video I linked to from the Conan movie I'd focus in on the last 2 minutes of it and compare it to the way Carl takes the tools from the truck-corpse. They're similar right down to the body shifting after the item in question is taken.I dont see how Carl made sure it wasnt a Lurker; he didnt call for help or poke it with something from a safe distance I dont think (would have to watch the episode again). If I remember correctly, he was just slow in reaching for the satchell.
Its safe to say that knowing how protective Lori is...she would have flipped out if she realized Carl was going through vehicles.
Now of course this scene was a bit hamfistedly translated to the Walking Dead, but it's unmistakable that it's a point in Carl's character development where we see that he's willing to face his fears and take what he wants from this messed up ZA world. Sure if you were to apply current non-ZA hyper-anal parenting to this scene then yes you could ask "why the hell would Rick and Lori let Carl wander off like that in the first place?" But honestly as silly as a lot of the writting for this show has been this was hardly the worst "doesn't make any sense" moment and it served the purpose of giving Carl a nice character building moment. -
I realize RMT spammers spamming in local near the AP and Mercy markets does suck.
But my trivial "solution" to that is that I simply don't go to those places. *shrugs*
By avoiding those places I've maybe averaged seeing a RMT spam about once a YEAR. On busy Virtue no less.
I'm serious - I see so few RMT spams per unit time that it effectively does not exist for me.
Problem mitigated. -
Quote:Eh, I still know people who accidentally got Passport years ago when they never transferred to any other server much less the EU servers. They just logged in one day and had it. The real irony is that most of those people are -not- badge collectors and couldn't care less about it. I even had one of them tell me they'd give me theirs if they could.Curse that Passport badge making some higher than others when we can't get it anymore!

I mean, congrats

For that reason alone I consider Passport an "oddball" that doesn't technically exist (or at least shouldn't count on the major tracking sites) because I almost think more people have it by accident rather than on purpose. That's one bug I wish I got hit with at any rate.

Quote:Sure they can serve as an in-game features to help people RP their characters. I really don't have a problem with that.Aw, c'mon, Lothic. Day Job Badges (and their associated Bonuses) were installed to help quiet the RPers' desires to have a secret identity or alter ego for their characters. <begin channeling>"C'mon, you 'member. You 'member? You 'member." </end channeling George Lopez>
*not snarking; just 'membering.*
I'm just saying from a metagame "what the Day Jobs give us in terms of benefits" point of view you usually only really get the most out of them if you let the offline time build up on a given Day Job. This means people who tend to cycle though multiple alts every few days or so will get the most continual benefit from alt to alt. Nothing really wrong with that either.
I was mostly just trying to explain to the OP what the situation was and why the Day Job benefit wasn't really helping the way he/she was trying to use it. -
Quote:Eh, I'm sure some people really like them for the bonuses they provide.Further proof that Day Jobs were the single worst addition to the game... *slithers off, cackling maniacally*

I just look at them as off-line badges that are secondarily related to semi-pointless in-game effects I barely care about.

Quote:Well the difference between Mortimer Kal and the original Posi is a least 6 or 7 years between when they were made. Same could be said for the Sister Psyche TF so clearly the newer ones have many improvements.Yeah I feel very fortunate I got pulled into a Mortimer Kal as the first 'force I've ever been involved with. It's a really good one. I think if I'd joined the Sister Psyche TF as my first I'd be much more hesitant to attempt any more after that.
Then again, I think another part that just made the Sister Psyche TF all the more excruciating was the fact it throws so many Freakshow at you and sooo many of them can auto revive. It's kind of a massive ***** being in the middle of a huge spawn and taking out the tanks only to have them get right back up as soon as you drop them.
But the self-res power of the Freakshow is just a quality that actually makes them a little bit challenging. I wouldn't consider it a specific "failure" of the Sister Psyche TF just because there's a bunch of Freakshow in it.
-
Sure but you can't really use most of them like the OP wants to. You get so relatively little credit day-to-day that you really have to rack up multiple days of off-line real time to get significant benefits. That was my point.
-
It was probably changed because someone managed to find some way to exploit it. Maybe it was something related* to why we can't use the /ah command in instanced missions anymore either.
* The Devs claim that it was taking up too many "server resources" but I'm almost positive they finally realized how broken it was to be able to access the market while in a mission.

Quote:I realize many people hate the idea of yet -another- currency and to be honest I'm hoping that doesn't happen either. If they add yet another currency after acknowledging we already have too many or certainly enough, it would need some serious explaining.
They need to just add the proper xp for those slots to the existing trials and the new trials and be done.
No need to make this more complicated than it has to be. You would think they would have learned this lesson from the absurd 15 EM merit unlock the new powers deal they just changed back before it hit live.
But there are people out there right now sitting on hundreds (if not thousands) of astral and empyrean merits already. If the Devs based the next batch of Incarnate powers on the same types of merits/XP we have now then there will be people who'll be able to unlock everything almost instantaneously and it's fairly clear the Devs have never wanted us being able to do that kind of thing. That's the whole reason they dreamt up things like Threads and Prestige as "replacements" for Shards and Influence.
My guess (like DumpleBerry said) is that we'll get something new to prevent the people who've been hording from insta-unlock everything. Not sure exactly what that form of control will be, but it's pretty safe to assume there will be one. -
Quote:The really bad thing about the original Positron TF was that for most new players that was the first taste of what a Task Force was like. It was sadly ironic that one of the arguably worst TFs the game has ever had was the -first- one you were likely to try. I knew players who outright refused to try any of the later Sig TFs because they had such a horrible experience on their first Posi. It was not a good way for the game to sell the concept at all.I've only heard horror stories about the old Positron TF of old, but witnessing the newer version first hand I just have to say... why haven't you done this to the others?! Again I can't really speak for the other task and strike forces, signature or otherwise, but it's just really.. bad to keep these aging, un-fun relics just hanging around polluting the game. They're not really challenging, they're just boring, repetitive, and tedious. I mean aren't the signature task forces supposed to be like, the show case task forces? That's why they use the big important signature characters.

So yes I fully agree that the other original TFs are long overdue for a revamp. The difference between the old Posi and the new version was impressive and I think the others could greatly benefit from the same kind of treatment. -
I think many people suspect that the next batch of Incarnate powers will likely have their own unique way to unlock them which'll involve some other new form of currency and/or XP. To some it'll be a barely noticeable speedbump and to others it'll be the complete and utter end of the world worthy of ragequiting over. YMMV of course.

I think the Day Job bonuses were mostly geared for the type of player who has a large number of alts. The idea is that if you play a bunch of alts then it might take you like several days or more to cycle around through playing each of them a little bit. The end result is that by the time you play any given alt you've probably racked up a bunch of Day Job credit to make the Day Job bonuses worthwhile.
Unfortunately you're just not going to get much from Day Jobs if you constantly play just one main alt all the time.
