Day Job: Vanguard...
I think the Day Job bonuses were mostly geared for the type of player who has a large number of alts. The idea is that if you play a bunch of alts then it might take you like several days or more to cycle around through playing each of them a little bit. The end result is that by the time you play any given alt you've probably racked up a bunch of Day Job credit to make the Day Job bonuses worthwhile.
Unfortunately you're just not going to get much from Day Jobs if you constantly play just one main alt all the time.

I just look at them as off-line badges that are secondarily related to semi-pointless in-game effects I barely care about.

Curse that Passport badge making some higher than others when we can't get it anymore!

Aw, c'mon, Lothic. Day Job Badges (and their associated Bonuses) were installed to help quiet the RPers' desires to have a secret identity or alter ego for their characters. <begin channeling>"C'mon, you 'member. You 'member? You 'member." </end channeling George Lopez>

I'm just saying from a metagame "what the Day Jobs give us in terms of benefits" point of view you usually only really get the most out of them if you let the offline time build up on a given Day Job. This means people who tend to cycle though multiple alts every few days or so will get the most continual benefit from alt to alt. Nothing really wrong with that either.
I was mostly just trying to explain to the OP what the situation was and why the Day Job benefit wasn't really helping the way he/she was trying to use it.

For that reason alone I consider Passport an "oddball" that doesn't technically exist (or at least shouldn't count on the major tracking sites) because I almost think more people have it by accident rather than on purpose. That's one bug I wish I got hit with at any rate.

Eh, I still know people who accidentally got Passport years ago when they never transferred to any other server much less the EU servers. They just logged in one day and had it. The real irony is that most of those people are -not- badge collectors and couldn't care less about it. I even had one of them tell me they'd give me theirs if they could.

hehe yeah...
I've "learned" that if there's some 'bug' in the system to get a badge; you do it!
Like that badge where you could have received the Longbow Ballista 2 glad. badge (the one where you have to get 400 pvp rep to get a badge)...there was a bug back in the day that awarded that if you just completed a regular mission that was in the pvp zone(s)...
I was like, "meh, I'll get that one later because I'm working on y badge now!"
Man was I silly...1 mission that might have taken 10 minutes at the most instead of grinding and killing my toons (and a friend's toons) over-and-over for 3 nights until we got the badge...
And luckily I did get the MoLambda badges before they are what they are now....

My main badger is currently lacking several MoKeyes badges simply because when the Keyes trial first went live I was serving aboard a Navy ship as a government contractor. There was literally no way I could play the game for several months during that timeframe because I had no access to the Internet (or at least not the kind of access that would have allowed me to play a MMO while at sea). This basically means that since the few dozen people who would care about getting those badges already have them it's proven fairly difficult to organize any kind of a group that wants to bother with them now.

I'll probably eventually get them, especially once the next wave of Incarnate powers are released which'll make that trial even easier, but for the moment it's relatively frustrating. I don't mind hard badges but it sucks to have to rely on like a dozen or more other people wanting to work on them too. Oh well...

Even though I learned the lesson years ago of "getting badges while they are hot" sometimes you can't take advantage of that.

Yeah I agree; sometimes it is hard to get the badges after the "real badgers" get it after a week or so...
But it is possible; just might take a while longer

ok... i have been logged off long enough to get the Vanguard Merit Bonus badge and the Mercenary accolade...
but i'm not sure what these do... first off, it says that now that i have the badge that the vanguard merit award double at the end of each mission for a time... BUT.. that was already happening BEFORE i got the badge, I ALWAYS get ONE Vanguard Merit at the end of the (Rikti War Zone) missions and TWO if i have the bonus still within the time limit... so what changed with this badge?
and then there is the Mercenary badge... it it says build up 'charges' to my 'fragmentation grenade' power when i log off in Vanguard area... but I have a 'frag grenade' power uses energy like all other powers... so i have no idea what 'charges' are... and i see no new temporary power called 'fragmentation grenade'... so what did i get with this badge?
i wish the description were more complete and clearer about what they do...
i also had the 'problem' that I 'earned' the Archanos badge, but didn't actually get it till i went 'Villain' again... apparently this is a requirement.. but i only found out after contacting customer support since it didn't say anything about the requirement for Villain ( instead of hero or vigilante or rogue) status...
The Vanguard day job gives a bonus merit on completion of ANY mission, not just a RWZ mission. With the badge, you instead get a new buff that grants two bonus merits on completion; thus, double. You'd get 3 merits total for completing a RWZ mission.
Fragmentation Grenade should show up next to your other day job powers, and accumulates charges for time logged out. I'm not sure how long 1 charge takes, but probably something like 24 hours. Charges means how many times you can use the power - each use eats one charge, and when you run out of charges the power disappears and is no longer usable (until you accumulate more charges).

i would have thought what you described would be the case... but that's not what i'm experiencing... note for all of this discussion i am talking about solo missions...
i still typically only get 1 vanguard merit per RWZ mission completion... i did about four missions and only after the completion of one of them did i seem to get a bonus at the end... I did get three that time, but only one every other time... in fact it so far 'feels' like i'm getting less vanguard merits ever since i got the badge... but to be fair, i do need to play more to get a better statistical feel, so jury is out on that... but it sure doesn't feel like i'm getting more...
I also did a Tip mission and upon completion got no merits of any kind (but did get a single alignment point as usual)...
also, i have different but sort of related question... i do a lot of the never-ending RWZ missions to get vanguard merits... so i have increased the difficulty to both +2 and +3 my level...
i was hoping this would result in a higher drop rate of salvage/vanguard merits/recipes, or at least better salvage (more orange/purple salvage/recipe drops)... i don't even get any of the third level of inspirations to drop (though they have in the past, not sure why)... but it seems so far that killing a 'purple' has no advantages over killing a 'white' now that i'm at level 50... it seems to have no affect on what or the rate of drops... maybe more inf., i haven't paid attention to that... but i make a lot more in the market than what ever drops... by orders of magnitude...
i enjoy giving myself more of a challenge... but i expect to get more/better rewards for doing so... right now all setting a higher difficulty level seems to do now is slow me down... so it seems to be a disadvantage in the reward department to set difficulty high...
i believe in the principle 'higher risk' = 'higher reward'... is this not the case?
Are you sure you still have the day job buff when you're completing these missions?
Once you're 50, higher level enemies give more inf, and more tickets in AE, but other drops are unchanged. It would be nice for higher risk to mean higher reward, but it doesn't really for normal missions.
nowadays i log out exclusively in the Rikti War Zone 'hub' to get the Vanguard Day Job badge... it says when i do this that for a brief time i will get two Vanguard Merits when completing missions in the zone...
my problem is this.. i have logged off for as much as 12 hours.. and the 'brief time' that this advantage is active is like 4 minutes... which means it is worthless, since it is kinda of tough to get mission, get there, and finish it in 4 minutes...
why have this at all if it is almost impossible to benefit from it? it says one can earn up to 2 hours of this bonus time.. does one have to log off for MONTHS EACH TIME to do this?
