Quote:Yes it will be interesting to see how they handle her "origin story" in this new series. There's also how they plan to deal with the Amazonian and Greek mythos to deal with since she is the product of Greek gods and a princess.
They may handle it poorly, but there's no real reason to automatically assume that'll be the case at this point.
I don't really think the idea of giving Wonder Woman the secret identity of "corporate executive" by itself would be enough to make this new show crash and burn. Batman seems to be doing pretty well in the eyes of the public as a "corporate executive" in the last couple of Batman movies. And for all we know the "corporation" she's an executive of may end up being involved in green technologies or other happy-shiny business areas that promote her superheroine ideals. -
Quote:It's certainly possible that this new show will take the "Batman with boobs" idea way too far and it'll be silly. But if the "corporate executive" thing is more just a secret identity she uses and doesn't really get into the serious hi-tech oriented gadgeteering like Batman does then I don't have an extreme problem with it.Wonder Woman could be a character that could be more effective with corporate backing via their own company.
That's really the point I'm trying to make here. We really have no idea to what degree the whole "Wonder Woman as corporate executive" concept is going to factor into this show. Based on how well we all know how Batman operates I'd frankly be amazed if this new show seriously decided to plagiarize Batman THAT closely. It's far more likely the person who wrote that original article heard "Wonder Woman as corporate executive" and decided to assume this meant she was going to be a "vigilante" just like Batman. -
Quote:At least she's naturally 5'11" so they won't have to use much "Hollywood Magic" to make her look taller. As far as her other "assets" go there is so much they can do to "enhance" various things now-a-days that I have no doubt she'll look acceptable.Start chugging the beer Adrianne, can't be Wonder Woman without a set of Wonders!
I've never expected that the actress playing the role was going to be the "weak link" in this new show. There are plenty of other things to worry about. -
Quote:"Space farmboy rescues space princess from evil spacestation" is a simplistically direct summation of Star Wars that by itself sounds kind of stupid to me as well. But as we all know the movie is a little bit more involved than that.

Trust me when I say I'll be more than willing to criticize this new Wonder Woman show AFTER I know enough about it to be certain it sucks. Until then I'm not letting a few random phrases I read on the Internet led me into thinking I already know exactly how this show will turn out. *shrugs* -
Quote:We haven't seen -any- new version of a live action Wonder Woman on -any- screen in over 3 decades.I don't know... the amount of changes that would be needed to just vageuly repersent Wonder WOman are pretty staggering... the worst thing is if this show is a failure Warner Brothers won't see it being because the character was mishandled, they will see it as her being unpopular cutting down on the chance of seeing Wonder Woman onthe big screen at least until for the next decade or so.
How much -more- damage could this new TV show actually cause (assuming it's bad) any future Wonder Woman project? -
Quote:Well all I'll say to this is even when Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman back in the 70s and her show was geared towards what most people would consider the "iconic" version of Wonder Woman it only got 3 seasons (spread across 2 different networks). I'll readily admit the obvious and say Wonder Woman, even the classic version that has nothing to do with the "corporate exec by day and vigilante by night" spin on the character, simply has never been an easy character to have a show for regardless.Corporate Exec by day and vigilante by night? For any third rate generic superhero series, sure. For Wonder Woman? The most iconic female superhero ever? No. Just No.
I will watch the pilot out of morbid curiosity, but thats it. I predict cancellation, probably after 5 episodes.
I'm willing to keep an open mind about this new show. I'm open to the idea that it might crash and burn after 5 episodes. But I'm also willing to see if we get some new reformulation of the character that may not be like anything we've seen before but may yet still be good in its own right. After 32 years I could probably accept a workable redesign of the character as opposed to the alternative of having to potentially wait another 32 years for something else. *shrugs* -
Quote:Spawn camping the Contaminated spawn in RV is how I got my Isolators on my pre-I2 characters as well. It was a pain, but at least I can stand on the moral high ground of saying that I never complained about it being "too hard" to do here on the forum. That's how I got Isolator, and I really don't have any complaints about it. And it's not "one every hour," it's "one every 30min to 3hrs." But I made some really good friends hanging around in that broken down tram station, waiting for that bum to show up and puke on my shoes.
There were a number of very hypocritical people at the time who desperately promised that they would do "absolutely anything" to get Isolator. When the Devs actually followed through and provided a semi-ridiculous method to get it many of those very same people screamed bloody murder that the RV Contaminated spawn was unfair and whined to the Devs about that. Clearly they were not careful what they wished for.
Well all I can say is that if the Devs ever actually do decide to toss in things like "50 A-merits for Bug Hunter" or "50 A-merits for an Anniversary badge" (as Eviella suggested) then I better not see anybody here complain about it after the fact.Quote:Quite honestly, I'd have no problem whatsoever saving up 50 Alignment Merits to buy a Bug Hunter badge. At least it's 50-100 days worth of actual gameplay (as opposed to the aforementioned 270 days of not getting to play at all).
-
Quote:As Snow Globe indirectly points out our Devs are not above the occasional "bad idea" when it comes to badges.
Case in point: Bug Hunter.
Let's not forget there were several years there where Positron was adamant that the 1 billion HP Empath was "working as intended" and he seemed pretty serious about "not trivializing it" that at the time. Then somewhere along the line what was fixed in stone suddenly became a "decimal point error" and the rest, as they say, is history.
I'm not really holding out serious/irrational hope that the Devs will ever reconcile the fundamental problem they have with having a badge like Bug Hunter in the game. But of course stranger things have happened.

Adrianne Palicki seems like a decent enough choice. I was hoping a "relative unknown" actress would get the part and since I've never really heard of her she at least has that quality as far as I'm concerned. I did a quick IMDB search and as a brunette she definitely has the potential to look Wonder Woman-ish.
As I mentioned in other threads I'm still going to give this show a chance regardless of what I hear about it. I've effectively waited 32 years for it (since the last WW show was on the air) so giving it a few hours of my time doesn't seem too much to ask for all things considered. I'll admit what I've read about it so far doesn't totally reassure me that it'll be a great show. But then again it's hard to judge a show by what a few relatively vague sentences can tell us. It's basically still far too early to assume anything about how it'll turn out it at this point. -
Quote:Learning from their mistakes is one thing. When Chain Induction went live, it sapped XP for months. Maybe they should've just given up on all chaining powers.
Gauntlet used to break all the time. Maybe Tankers taunting multiple enemies with single-target attacks just wasn't in the cards.
Used to be that powers like Burn, Lightning Rod, and Trip Mine couldn't have their damage buffed by anything but enhancements. Maybe using those powers was just a DPS dead end.
Or maybe they could be unafraid to make mistakes, and therefore learn from them to become better at what they do.
Allowing the same kinds of mistakes to happen over and over again is something else. -
Quote:Yeah it is a dumb idea.
But it's not really any more dumb than the original idea behind it.
At the very least it would finally become a strictly deterministic badge... like every other badge in the game before or since. -
Quote:Individual bugs, taken individually, are relatively ignorable in the grand scheme of things.Let me clarify by saying that I'm fully aware that the web staff are completely unrelated and distinct from the WTF programmers, who are probably also completely unrelated and distinct from the folks who handle veterans rewards. And, that my statement could be analogous to, "He doesn't know the capitol of Vanuatu? Pfft! He probably can't even roll his tongue, or make a decent pot of chili."
I'm just saying that, in the grand scheme of things, I imagine a bug like this is going to be considered de minimis.
But when you have many of these similar bugs popping up continuously over the span of years then a slightly less optimistic picture of the overall state of the game begins to emerge.

Quote:Well there's a definite difference between actively trying to find ways to exploit the system to work around established gates and the game simply being so bug/problem ridden that large numbers of people accidentally "crash" the gates without any overt malicious effort.I too wouldn't mind gates applying to everyone, but even so, some will seek a way to crash the gate anyway.
Also, I can only guess how many lines of code are involved with the incarnate rewards and weekly notice rewards, who knows where in that code the bug may be? If its even in that code section and not elsewhere.
Obviously any game this large will have bugs. All I'm saying is that there have been bugs with so many of these "gate" situations that it basically undermines my confidence in whether trying to gate anything in this game is worthwhile. I know it may be naive of me but I'd simply like to have more confidence in the game than I currently do. *shrugs* -
Quote:This sounds like the kind of thing people used to say when they begged for a non-tutorial way to get Isolator...I am honestly quite in favor of this suggestion. I'd pay 50 A-Merits for Bug Hunter.

Then we got "one Contaminated spawn in RV per hour".
Frankly I think it'd be hilarious if they gave us "50 A-Merits for Bug Hunter".

Quote:Felicia Day, Red: Werewolf Hunter, The Guild. My favorite are the redhaired ones who star in "The Guild" and "Red: Werewolf Hunter."
If Felicia makes me cookies, that'd be the hat trick!
Two of these things are cool and I'd like to see more of.
One of these things was one of the worst god-awful things I ever wasted any time to watch.
It both amazes and saddens me these things are forever related.

I realize the Universe is not going to come to an end just because some people got something a week earlier than they should have in a MMO. Heck, due to one of the bugs I mentioned earlier even I got a Very Rare Alpha slotted last night.

I just continue to find it mildly annoying that the game tries to create these "gates" based on real world times and then lets so many exceptions/bugs happen to render those gates effectively meaningless for lots of people. It's happened in a number of other situations over the years so this is hardly the first time it's come up.
Like them or not gates like this in games should strictly apply to EVERYONE, period. It raises the very legitimate question that if they always have these "leaks" with so many people then why should the Devs even try to use time gates on anything? I know there are people who think I make too much out of this issue but once again I'll just ask the basic question: is it really too hard for the game to follow its own rules? Is that really too much to ask for from a game like this? Apparently it is. *shrugs* -

Especially considering your institutionalized brushes with "breaking" the game every three months...
At least this particular problem with people getting something earlier than the game system intended will only happen once.

Quote:Well just to play Devil's Advocate there's probably just about as many opinions on what makes a "proper" elf as there are people in the world. And besides the way you said "they just get a human actor" sounds as if we could (and should) be getting REAL elves to play elvish roles in movies. If they actually exist then I wouldn't have a problem with that at all.I generally don't like Fantasy Elves in movies - they just get a human actor (admitedly usually slim with minimal body hair, but still...) and stick pointy ears on them. If Elves don't have large, slanted, almond-shaped eyes it just doesn't work, IMO.
'Course, I used to like Elves more than I do now, so whatevas.
Unless you have the budget of something like Cameron's Avatar to make awesome CGI "elves" there's always going to be some compromise that won't suit everyone. I'm quite sure Felicia's version of an elf won't be that much different than any other's we've seen on screen so far. *shrugs* -
Quote:I think most people who got it were being quiet about it. I submitted a bug report, but I did preface it with "Although it PAINS me to do this..."Well while technically no one should have very rare Alphas until next week there are at least the 2 different bugs I'm aware of that allowed a good number of people to get them as early as yesterday. While I'm sure the Devs don't like that it would hardly be the first time some game problem like this allowed people to get things earlier than the "rules" say we should have them. I would be very surprised to see the Devs waste any time datamining back though the activities of everyone for the last few weeks to "punish" anyone for simply taking advantage of what the bugs provided in this case. It's not like anyone actively "exploited" anything here on purpose.Quote:Quietly dropped out of the petition screen and crept off to polish the shiny

Regrettable, but hardly game-breaking.

Quote:So you're saying people were still getting "accidental" second Notices even as recently as yesterday? Figures.

I heard no one talking about it in channels last night, but that certainly doesn't prove anything one way or the other.
Yes there was the hotfix on February 2nd that fixed the "Mapserves with Level Shifting and Pets" problem. A number of people lost their first Notices because of that bug on February 1st and some people were able to petition to get them replaced.Quote:The "two Notice" bug was fixed with the first patch after the Strike Pack launched, to my knowledge. I only know one person who got a double Notice on Victory, and he said it was because of the bug that caused everyone to disconnect at the end of a TF on the first day.
The "Two Notice" bug seems to be something completely different that I only heard people start talking about on February 8th. This bug allowed random people to earn a second Notice for the week by running a second Khan/Cuda TF/SF. The fix for -that- bug is what I was speculating was included in yesterday's patch. But Le Blanc's post implies maybe that bug is still out there. *shrugs* -
One thing to keep in mind is that Tips drop from Bosses far more often than LTs and Minions. Whenever I need Tips I usually go streetsweep the highest level bosses I can find and get a Tip within minutes. In fact I don't think it's ever taken me more than about 5 minutes tops from the time I have the thought "I need a Tip" to the time I actually have one.
Better luck to you from now on.

Quote:This^i seen a few poeple with it, but thats because its bugged and they got 2 notices in 1 week
i dont think you will see the mass of poeple get any tier 4s till next week when we get a 4th notice
We'll probably see a handful running around with Very Rare Alphas starting today with a bunch more by next week.
Never really heard much about the "two Notice" bug in the last few days.
Makes me wonder if today's patch included a stealth fix for it.

Yes.
It's from the climactic scene from the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
I still think it's the best of the various versions.
That explains what I said in my last post on this thread.
