Quote:Megan Fox might "look" good to many people. But when she talks and/or acts she becomes fairly annoying to me. If all she would bring to the table is "looks" then this show would most certainly be doomed after only a few episodes. If the girl posted above is the next wonder woman, this show is DOA.
Everyone's opinion about wonder woman is different but me, personally, she doesn't have to tall, strong, or etc but she has to be pretty with personality PERIOD.
I'm sorry but the girl above is FUGLY.
TV is 90% looks. Storyline, plots, etc. don't matter. It's the ability to attract watchers/viewers. Megan would have at least done that....I not even going to tune into this show.
I'll be the first to say that I'm not really sold on the idea that Adrianne Palicki is the best choice for the role. But even from what little I know and have seen of her I think she's a better choice than many others that have been tossed up over the years. -
As I mentioned eariler in this thread there's already a rumored connection between this new Wonder Woman and Katy Perry in the show's storyline. It would seem like what we may be getting is the version of Wonder Woman's outfit that might have been directly designed by either Katy Perry herself or someone who likes Katy's style a whole lot. If this Wonder Woman turns out to be a fan of Katy then at least it would make sense. I'm not saying I like it, I'm just saying that it would make sense.

If I squint real hard I think I can see the blueness on this pic. Still like I said before I don't really care for that one part of it regardless if it's fully black or just very dark navy blue. I think the pants would work better if they were a slightly darker blue from the original the same way the top is just a slightly darker red.

Quote:For what it's worth I'm not 100% totally happy with what I see from this ONE PROMOTIONAL POSED photo either. But I just happen to think people here are looking at this one pic in isolation and judging/assuming far too much from it. When considering Hudson Leick we have a lot more material to judge her on. According to imdb.com she was in 12 episodes of Xena. A full 12 episodes of appearances is quite a bit more to go on than one still photo don't you think? And I used Hudson's portrayal of Callisto as an example of someone who doesn't look like a super-cut bodybuilder/wrestler successfully playing the role of a hardass heartbreaker and lifetaker.
Pardon me for wanting an actress that can pull off the role of WW (even in photos) rather than some barbie doll that looks like she's going to cosplay.
One more time I'm going to be doing my very best to give this new show a chance despite the questionable fragments of data we've gotten on it so far. I agree completely that it might turn out to be a total mess that'll be cancelled in a few episodes, but none of us will seriously know that's going to be the case until it actually airs. *shrugs* -
Quote:Ironically I still contend if you put Adrianne in a Callisto outfit and dyed her hair blonde you probably almost couldn't tell the difference between her and Hudson Leick at least body-wise. That's why I'm finding it funny people are saying "someone like Hudson" would make a better Wonder Woman than Adrianne. Oh well, like I said they'll never be able to please everyone.I don't think we need a bodybuilder to play her, but someone more... solid... could be nice.
Also: Callisto was hot.

Quote:Well there is a legitimate question about whether Wonder Woman should be a bit more "built" than your average swimsuit model or not. All I know for sure is that no matter who they got to play the role there was going to be some kind of "backlash" to her one way or the other. There's no way one real live woman is ever going to be able to embody everyone's "mental concept" of what the character should be and the many posts on this thread is proving that.Im not saying she needs to be some American Gladiator reject and muscle bound, but this actress looks more like a model with thin features and fake breasts, then a woman that grew up in a Amazon world were woman are warriors, hunters, etc. I guess comic book realativity or not, my thought would be that wonderwoman would be more Xena, then Swimsuit model.

I like the colors of the photoshopped pic a bit better as well. I could actually stand for the pants to be a blue color because I'm simply not a fan of the black, but they could be a darker blue than the original (just like the top is a darker red than the original). Oh well.Quote:As for the color of the costume, found this image that someone recolored, i kinda like it better....

Quote:I suppose we could all quibble over whether Adrianne Palicki is "amazony" enough or not for the role until the cows come home. But seriously, trying to offer up Hudson Leick as someone who's "significantly different" to Adrianne is a lot like the episode of Futurama when they were making the joke about the two presidential candidates being politically unique despite being identical clones:All super heroes don't, but the ones that are supposed to be from warrior cultures should look the part. It doesn't have to be taken to the body builder/wrestler extreme, but they should look fit and capable of kicking butt.
Callisto (Hudson Leick) managed to look hardcore when she wanted as well as soft and pretty.

I don't mind the idea of comparing Adrianne to someone who's a little more "stout" like Lucy Lawless, but let's not bother comparing Apples to Apples shall we.
-
Well according to imdb.com Adrianne Palicki is 5'11". I guess that means some people will consider her too skinny to be Wonder Woman at 34-25-34. Perhaps...
Then again I've never really understood this idea that all superheroes have to look like super-cut bodybuilder/wrestler types. In Wonder Woman's case she gets her strength from being associated with the magical power of the Greek gods. Why would her muscles have to be huge? Basically the idea that she MUST be a "beefy she-hulk" makes very little sense to me. This is why the "super-model" version of Wonder Woman has never completely seemed unreasonable to me. I liked Xena, I just don't think Wonder Woman has to be a clone of her. *shrugs* -
While Adrianne Palicki is just shy of being 28 I do see where she could pass for being around 19-21. Based on the hyper-plastic "Katy Perry" stylized direction this show appears to be taking it almost makes you wonder if maybe they should have sold this as a younger Wonder Girl concept instead. *shrugs*

Quote:That was the point I made eariler - the new costume may not be ideal but at least she's not in full black body armor with a pointy-eared mask.I am glad that they at least are brave enough to go with bright colours. When I heard the concept of the show has her as a "vigilante-by-night", I assumed she'd be in black and probably wearing a trenchcoat, so I'll at least give them points for using a costume.

As far as some of the other criticisms go I think some are more valid than others. For instance while I think the new lasso is a tad cheesy it's better than others we've seen:

Notice how the lasso in this Lynda Carter still doesn't look like much more than a golden shoestring.
I think the only thing that's seriously bothering me most about the new outfit is the blue boots. Like others have said they really need to be red.
Sadly it'll probably go like that. Even Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman only got one season on ABC before CBS gave it another chance with 2 more seasons. -
Quote:Sadly you may be overly optimistic in thinking the next attempt at a good Wonder Woman show may only take another 10 years or so to happen. Keep in mind that this upcoming show will be the first attempt at a Wonder Woman TV show in 32 years, the last of course being with Lynda Carter back in 1979. I'm actually old enough to remember seeing it way back then and have been hoping ever since to see more of the character on TV.Somewhere there is a credible TV/movie vehicle that will do the character enough justice that the product as a whole succeeds. Too bad this doesn't look it and since this mostly looks like previous failed attempts by NBC, nobody else to going to try it for some time. For now, I can enjoy the animated version and know that once this bombs, and it will, I can look forward to another attempt sometime in 2020+.
This is why, for better or worse, I can't as of today automatically give up on this new show just yet. I'm still more than willing (even despite this questionable costume) to have some hope that the final product will be watchable because I don't exactly want to have to wait 32 MORE years for another try at this.

Quote:They've already mentioned that people like Katy Perry are going to be at least indirectly involved in the new WW's life as a sort of "competitor of fame and notoriety" as far as their public lives go.Also, that actress doesn't look one whit a warrior in that picture. I'd like to see a more gritty, ancient battlefield looking vibe happening with her.
If you're looking for the "gritty ancient battlefield amazon warrior" version of WW this isn't going to be your show.

Quote:Actually I'm still having a hard time thinking that yet. I like Pegg and I think he did a good job in the Star Trek movie. I just think out of all the new actors him being Scotty was the "farthest stretch" to my suspension of disbelief. All the others kinda-sorta looked like the original actors well enough. Pegg? Not so much. He was the "odd man out" at least from a looks point of view.I have a hard time not thinking of Pegg as "the skinny Scotty" nowadays.
I'm sure by the time the next Star Trek movie comes out I'll finally be able to "visually" accept him as the new Scotty.
-
Well one saving grace is that this is obviously an early production "beta" version of the costume. Many things tend to get adjusted or fixed as a TV show evolves before it finally gets made for real. Maybe they'll listen to various comments like these and change things like improving the lasso or toning back the lipstick.
Again I'm far from giving this show any final judgements one way or the other... -
Frankly they BOTH sort of look like plastic Halloween costumes. I think the Smallville outfit has many of the same fundamental rubbery and/or plasticy "faults" if you want to get picky about it. *shrugs*
-
Well at the very least this WW costume for the new show is unique. I'm not quite sure if I like it or not, but I think it's safe to say it could have been a lot worse.
Based on all the "doom and gloom" people were spouting a few weeks ago when this show was first announced I'd say this isn't bad. Remember back when everyone was assuming we were going to get a "female Batman" out of this? At least this outfit is far closer to the classic look than I'll bet most people were assuming we'd get.
As someone earlier said there's only so much you can decide based on one still shot. As always I'm going to reserve my final judgement for when I see her running around in the actual TV show. Only then will I really know if this outfit "works" or not.

Quote:To me a Vet award should be something unique that can't be gained in any other way. I'm not saying that they should be majorly overpowered or something that would be unbalanced in any way. But by the same token they should never really be anything that we can get via any other method. Basically they should be "special" enough to actually make earning a Vet award worthwhile. For example the Reveal Power is a fine example of a Vet award. While I don't think we really need to go back and edit the vet rewards to give MORE, like suggesting getting more than just a free respec (which to me is just awesome!).
I am fully willing to go with the idea of putting ALL the costume piece rewards in at character creation for EVERYONE. Then replacing those costume piece rewards with TWO FREE RESPECS!!! \o/
Now mind you, I'd rather have the belly shirts than the Free Respecs (I had been asking for them for so long!), so it's not like I don't care for the costume pieces.
But sure enough, if they just made every vet reward a Free Respec, I'd be happy.
The problem with frespecs as Vet awards is that there's already so many other ways to gain respec tokens that they have nothing to do with being a Vet. You can run respec trials. You can buy respec recipes (via influence or even real money). We even get free ones just handed out to us during many Issue launches. How can something the Devs just toss at anyone really be "cool" enough to pass as a Vet award?
So when we have a three month mark when all we get (besides the badge) is something we can get many other ways what makes that any good as a cool little "thank you" for being a Vet? You may like having lots of respec tokens but there's nothing stopping you from buying as many as you want whenever you want.
Basically when it came down to the 45th and 69th month awards the Devs effectively said "we couldn't really think of anything unique to give you guys so we'll just toss another respec token at you". It's pretty much the laziest non-Vety Vet award we could ever get. *sigh* -
Quote:So as I said it's all about saving yourself runs. In your case if you can only get in enough time to play a couple of TF/SFs a week then if you can have that first WST count for the badges you'd "save" yourself from having spent time on a non-counting run. It's not about saving myself runs, it's about being able to accumulate runs toward the badge at all. I think I only have 1-2 badge credits on both of my badgers for the Backup badge. It's a pretty ridiculously grindy badge, and I barely have time to play as it is.

Regardless of the quibble over that point there's still the fundamental problem that these badges were designed as "assistance" badges. They were intended to give people a reason to run more than one WST a week per character. It's not the "fault" of the badges if you can't play that often. In effect it's almost like you are asking to have the "no death" requirement from the original "Master of" badges removed because you can't manage to not die during a Master run. The badge isn't the problem - your ability to do what needs to be done to get it is.
I sympathize with your position, but the Devs are unlikely to change a badge requirement just because some people can't play more than 1 or 2 TF/SFs a week.
I never said the conversion rate wasn't a joke. I just said it was possible, and that in and of itself gives Notices some future value even after you're done with the Alphas. *shrugs* -
I think the "NPC only" costume items exist not to make sure NPCs don't look like player characters but the other way around.
-
This is cool news. I'm happy that NCsoft was able and willing to help like this. It makes me feel like I was able to help (at least indirectly) through all the money I've paid for this great game over the years.

Quote:Well for what it's worth I've mentioned in the past on these forums that Transformers was a groan-tastic mess and if you were to meet me in real life I'd tell you the same thing. Guess I could say the same thing about Daredevil now too.Perfect example is Transformers. Hear it all the time on the internet. Talk to friends, meet new people, they enjoyed it.

Quote:Again that's my point about the terminology used here being in a "gray area" at best.think of it in terms of the Bond films (before Craig), or the Batman movies (before Nolan). they didnt really follow a set continuity, but were able to perpetually change the cast & crew fairly often. i tend to think of those as sequels even if the stories dont directly follow what happened in the previous movies.
Sure several different actors played Bond or Batman over the years. But in the grand spectrum between "sequel" and "reboot" I would count the series of Bond and Batman movies to be a tad bit more "sequel-y" than this new Daredevil movie is going to be. Almost 10 years later with a different actor after only one movie? Eh, that smells more "reboot-y" to me.

Quote:I'd agree that lower level characters could have END problems if they are trying to use these powers continuously. But I use them often on some of my level 50 characters and they have no END problems at all. Of course they have plenty of IOs and whatnot, but it does prove the point. If you're using vet powers as part of a normal attack chain, then you will have end problems. They are hogs. Not a complaint, mind you, since that's not their purpose.

If you're a Scrapper or Brute that needs the Vet powers to make your character "work" then yes, you probably need help. But I still often use these these powers on some of my squishy level 50 characters such as my main Fire/Rad controller. If you only have a couple of serious damage-oriented attack powers then using the Blackwand or Nem Staff as a filler can always come in handy.Quote:True, but then again, for most characters, if you're using them as part of an attack chain you probably need help anyways
-
Quote:So to break it down you're saying there's only two main reasons to run the WSTs. One is to get the Notice/XP award and the other is to get badge credit for the assistance badges. If you happen to be one of the very few people who "don't care about Notices but do want more badge credit" then at most your idea will only get people to run the WSTs at most 3 more times. Doesn't really seem like enough to justify the change you're talking about. Besides a person who actively wants the badges will be willing to run the "no-credit" runs just to get to the "for-credit" runs regardless. The badges are for helping a team complete the WST when you yourself do not receive the reward. If you are given the choice to forgo the WST reward for the week, it's the same thing.
I just don't see the need to continue grinding through the WST on a character if I don't need the Notices. As it is I probably won't bother with the WST on my VR Alpha-slotted characters anymore, at least this would get me and other badgers playing them again.
I20 is going to be giving us the ability to "up-convert" current Incarnate items into other items to be used for upper level incarnate slots. Basically I don't think Notices will become totally useless, even if you're not crafting any more Alpha slots.
Basically I think both your main suggestion and the "justification" for it are both questionable at best. I understand you'd like to save yourself a few TF/SF runs, but if you're going for the 50 count badge does it really matter much if it took you say 54 runs versus like 55 runs total to get it?

Quote:The ability of a movie to make a profit doesn't really affect whether or not I think they are any good or not. There have been profitable movies that I liked and ones I didn't like. This happened to be one that I thought could have been better. *shrugs*Because it falls in line with hating all those others movies that were hits.
I think the line gets pretty blurred once you change actors/directors, place the main character in a new storyline and wait 8+ years since the last one. You may be right that this will technically be a "sequel", but let's not stretch the definition of that word too much.Quote:It's not a reboot though. It's a sequal with different actors in the rolls.
