Assistant badge credit on WST on first play
Why?
The badges are accomplishments because you accomplished something extra...
Assistant twice...
Backup... ten times..
Partner..50 times....
They are there to signify something more than just doing the WSFs more than once. To me they basically mean you are a gracious person who enjoys teaming despite not getting all the little perks associated with the WSF.

The badges are for helping a team complete the WST when you yourself do not receive the reward. If you are given the choice to forgo the WST reward for the week, it's the same thing.
I just don't see the need to continue grinding through the WST on a character if I don't need the Notices. As it is I probably won't bother with the WST on my VR Alpha-slotted characters anymore, at least this would get me and other badgers playing them again.

I20 is going to be giving us the ability to "up-convert" current Incarnate items into other items to be used for upper level incarnate slots. Basically I don't think Notices will become totally useless, even if you're not crafting any more Alpha slots.
Basically I think both your main suggestion and the "justification" for it are both questionable at best. I understand you'd like to save yourself a few TF/SF runs, but if you're going for the 50 count badge does it really matter much if it took you say 54 runs versus like 55 runs total to get it?

It's not about saving myself runs, it's about being able to accumulate runs toward the badge at all. I think I only have 1-2 badge credits on both of my badgers for the Backup badge. It's a pretty ridiculously grindy badge, and I barely have time to play as it is.
As far as converting goes, the conversion rate of Shards to Threads is a joke. I don't see Notices helping with that much.

Regardless of the quibble over that point there's still the fundamental problem that these badges were designed as "assistance" badges. They were intended to give people a reason to run more than one WST a week per character. It's not the "fault" of the badges if you can't play that often. In effect it's almost like you are asking to have the "no death" requirement from the original "Master of" badges removed because you can't manage to not die during a Master run. The badge isn't the problem - your ability to do what needs to be done to get it is.
I sympathize with your position, but the Devs are unlikely to change a badge requirement just because some people can't play more than 1 or 2 TF/SFs a week.
I never said the conversion rate wasn't a joke. I just said it was possible, and that in and of itself gives Notices some future value even after you're done with the Alphas. *shrugs*

2. It would still BE an assistance badge because you're not getting any other reward for it. I don't know how I can make this any clearer.
3. Many grindy badge requirements have already been reduced so it's not like there's no precedence for this. Your argument is the same as "well it's too bad you don't have the time to hunt down 10,000 Rikti monkeys or craft 10,000 recipes, guess you can't have those badges".

1. "Not having time to grind TFs" != "not having the ability to not die on a TF". These are completely different requirements and not analogous in the slightest except via strawman.

Bottomline many (if not most) TF/SFs can now be run in around an hour or so, even by random PUG teams. I think it's going to be incredibly hard for you to convince the Devs that playing for an extra hour or two a WEEK is a valid definition of "grinding". It's true a handful of badges have be modified because they were retroactively deemed to be too grindy. Your attempt to lump the assistance badges into that category is interesting, but very likely futile.
I hapeen to be one of those people who earned every badge in this game under their "original" requirements (10,000 Rikti, 10,000 recipes, 1 billion HPs healed, etc.). These assistance badges are no where close to being as bad as what you're implying. If you can't play often enough to earn the 50 TF/SF assistance badge in a reasonable amount of time (and I'd say 4-6 months is reasonable for most people) then maybe you shouldn't really worry about trying to get it in the first place. *shrugs*

Everything is relative. One person's "completely reasonable amount of playtime" is another person's "grinding".
The idea that this could possibly happen seems to be eluding you, so I think I'll just leave it here and agree to disagree.

The Devs already learned plenty of lessons with badges such as Empath and Leader. The Devs already removed close to 80 AE badges on the grounds that they were too "grindy" to earn. Do you really think after all that they would ever put in a new set of badges that, as far as they would be concerned, would ever have close to the same problems?
I understand that your definition of "grinding" appears to be quite a bit different from mine. Frankly with your attitude on it I'm surprised you actually care about trying to earn ANY badges because there are many of them them out there today that require more "effort" than these assistance badges do. Nevertheless the Devs ON PURPOSE wanted to create an enticement to have players keep running additional WSTs after they earned their Notices/XPs to make sure there would be enough teams out there so everyone else had a chance to earn them during the course of a given week. Why on earth would they ever choose to invalidate that enticement via your suggestion is beyond me.
But don't let me stop you. Make your case to the Devs and convince them that their thoughts on the matter are misguided. Just seriously don't hold your breath that this is going to be changed soon if ever.

My suggestion. If you have the time to run those longer TFs for the badge credit, you have time to wait till it's Apex or ITF, and you can get on teams and just run them fast to get the badge credit.
The badge is earned by helping on WSTs when you've already accomplished the task. It should remain that way. IMO anyways.

...instead of getting the XP bonus and Notice. So your reward table looks like this:
- Standard reward choices for the TF/SF, if any.
And a separate section of the table (which would not be present after the first run, since beyond that you get credit anyway):- XP bonus and double merits (and Notice if you're an Incarnate)
- Badge credit for Assistant/Backup/Partner
It won't trivialize the badges since it's only an extra credit per week, and if you're on a character that doesn't need any more Notices it's not too big a sacrifice."You don't lose levels.
