Quote:This is the perfect summary to the OP's question of "mez defense for controllers". The answer is not really trying to find solutions in things like Indomitable Will or Breakfrees. The key is in what people like MentalMaiden said - Mezz them before they mezz you. Controllers don't "defend" themselves by loading up on resistance or defense IOs. They defend themselves by making sure no one else hurts/mezzs them first.it sounds to me like you're looking for a build solution to a tactics problem.
I've been running my Fire/Rad with Hot Feet for years and I barely notice ever getting mezzed and I barely ever use Breakfrees either. It's all based on my not running my controller like a Scrapper or a Brute - it's a matter of mindset and tactics. Now obviously I do get mezzed occasionally, but it happens so rarely that it's practically a "blue moon" occurrence now.
Good luck to the OP in figuring it out.

Quote:Yeah it sucks that you had this problem with a team leader. But like others have said you really only have yourself to blame for waiting that long in the first place. Why on earth did you give that guy over 2 hours? If something like that ever happened to me I might give the guy 10-15 minutes tops, especially if there was no explaination given. After that I'd rather cut my losses and try something else. *shrugs*I was trying to do my WTF on the villain side last night. The leader when AFK and stayed online for over 2 hours. How is this possible? I thought the missons/tf/SF kicked people out after a certain time. This was total Rubbish. I didn't get my WST and I wasted a whole evening.
I hate this game sometimes!!
Better luck next time... -
I tried (as often as I could) to get on teams while doing the various missions and got some badge credit that way. But ultimately I found it was easier to just farm the PI Safeguard/Mayhem mission to get all the rest of the badge credit I needed. IIRC I only needed to farm the PI mission solo 5-10 times to finish off the remaining Safeguard/Mayhem count badges I needed.
Sure it'd be nice if these badges were all team credit. But the "workaround" is straightforward enough. -
Quote:Well like I said I've been waiting to give this show a try. Just don't judge it too harshly when it ends up being "less involved" than the books you described. As we all know no TV show can ever really be as detailed as any book series. I'm sure this series will hit the most important parts at the very least but I'd honestly rather have a well constructed teleplay than an attempt at a faithfully followed book series that becomes too bogged down for its own good.Lothic, this beginning doesn't even come close to showing the level of complex intregue and great characters that show up in A Game of Throwns. The good guys are all flawed, the bad guys mostly have reasons for being bad, and the plot has unexpected twists and turns. I'm really looking forward to seeing Peter Dinklage as Tyrion, who has become one of my favorite literary characters. He's a guy who you can both love and hate -- a dwarf who turns his curse into a kind of weapon by being more clever than others. His character really shines more in later books, but you get to see a lot about him in A Game of Throwns.

Well it seems as interesting as a 15 minute preview can make something like this. Looks like it's going to be chock full of intrigue and drama.
For instance after seeing around 5 seconds of the girl sewing it was almost instantly obvious she was longing to be outside shooting the bow like her brother(?) and not a minute later we see her sneaking outside to hit the bulls-eye showing she's likely going to be more of a tomboy warrior than him which will probably cause some kind of family unrest.
Also looks like it'll have a "Babylon 5" quality at least as far as a potential scary enemy that's been long gone but is now returning and it's going to take a while before everyone even believes the enemy has returned and all the bickering factions are probably going to have to join together to fight the old evil.
I'll give the actual series a chance. It certainly has some potential. -
Quote:All I can say is it sounds like you ended paying $9.99 more than I did. My preorder was a $5 down-payment towards the purchase of my retail box just like IanTheM1 mentioned. *shrugs*No, it was a $9.99 box that allowed you access to the game two days before everybody else and promised you an exclusive custom sprint type power which people who had not bought the pre-order would not get. The game was full price in addition to the pre-order and your pre-order did not give you a discount on the full product.
As far as I'm aware the only preorder that has giving a discount on the full product was the 'Going Rogue' one.
Anyway when the Devs offered that "exclusive" preorder sprint power they never promised that it would be PERMANENTLY exclusive, only that would be a bonus for preorder people. Far too often people assume that the word "exclusive" automatically means -permanently- exclusive. Sorry you thought that was going to be the case. For what's it's worth we had that one sprint power "exclusively" for 2.5 years before the Vet award system started and once the sprint Vet award happened we got access to 3 other sprint powers we didn't have before so it was a net gain for everyone.

Quote:The point was that even if you don't classify a specific movie like Fight Club as a strict sci-fi or a strict fantasy Pitt has been in so many movies that have skirted close to this territory that it's really hard to put him in the category Ironik's looking for.Fight Club was sci-fi?
And what were the sci-fi elements of Twelve Monkeys again? I only saw it once and I just remember Pitt being a crazy person, can't recall a sci-fi aspect.
And Twelve Monkeys was a movie about humanity being wiped out by a virus and Bruce Willis's character TIME TRAVELING back to try to stop the virus before it spreads. Can't really get much more "Sci-fi-y" than that.
-
Quote:Pitt's been in plenty of sci-fi and fantasy projects ranging from Twelve Monkeys, Fight Club to even voice acting work on Sinbad movies. I hardly think he would count for the "exception" Ironik was looking for. What about Brad Pitt? Does Interview with a Vampire count as fantasy?

I tend to not let myself get too caught up in "generational absolutes" like this. As we all know there are both good and bad movies whether they were made in the 50s or the 21st century.
I also don't have too much trouble with "classy" actors who supposedly "slum" around in the occasional silly movie, regardless of genre. If an actor has a proven career of good performances it doesn't bother me if they do an oddball film here or there. For instance I never really had any problem with Alec Guinness' little role in that Sci-Fi movie that got big there for a while.

If there's one thing this game has been weak on over the years it's official documentation. Even the original hardcopy "manual" that came with the game was out-of-date by the time CoH Headstart was over. Basically Paragonwiki has been the closest thing to an up-to-date manual/guide to this game for years now. I suppose it's always been easier for the players to self-document the game than for the Devs to try to keep up with it themselves. Ironically in some areas we seem to know more about the game than they do.

Well I was hoping I would get to avoid this latest Transformer nightmare completely.
But if this news is true I'm going to have to watch the couple of minutes of YouTube snips that'll get posted to hear Nimoy's few words of dialogue.
Oh well, not a total loss... -

Frankly like Rejolt I wouldn't have a problem -buying- them for $10 either.

Heck, Champions Online has been selling single costume slots per character for $2.50 each for a year and a half now. I currently consider that the ONLY thing that game does better than this game and I'll keep pointing that out for as long as it takes until our Devs to wake up and provide us the same... -
Quote:To be perfectly honest I'm not "sold" on this new Wonder McBeal concept either, and I'm saying that as probably one of the few people on this thread who's chosen to not automatically pre-judge this show before I see it. *shrugs*I didn't feel like searching the whole thread but wanted to confirm something I found online.
1. She is NOT going to be an Amazon. Just a human vigilante.
2. Her name is Diane Prince
3. She runs a multi-billion dollar corporation during the day.
4. At night, she dons the costume and runs around fighting crime.
5. She has a scooby gang of computer/research nerds that work for her in her basement or something.
Is this true?
Based on this tiny nugget of info it looks like this show's going to follow the Buffy/Angel/Dollhouse/Smallville model. It's not Lynda Carter's version of Wonder Woman and it's obviously not the version of Wonder Woman many people here feel comfortable with either. But if they manage to "mainstream" the character enough they may very well find a big enough audience for this show to keep it going that's NOT primarily traditional "comic book geeks". Face it people: We are a relatively small minority after all - the chances they are ever going to cater a show like this directly to us is just about nil. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble on that one.
It's funny, in a sadly ironic way, to think that many people here would rather have this new version of Wonder Woman outright fail than to imagine a world where it might actually succeed as a TV show that's not "made" for them. Basically the doom-mongers here are saying, "If it's not 100% exactly based on MY mind's eye version of Wonder Woman then I'd rather NO ONE anywhere have a chance to enjoy it." Pretty damn selfish if you ask me...
Between the alternatives of having a live-action Wonder Woman I don't quite "like" and no version of Wonder Woman at all I'll choose the alternative that finally puts her on my TV later this year. How on Earth do you think there will ever be a chance to have any OTHER version made if we don't at least get the pumped primed with this upcoming show? Do you think any network exec is ever going to consider the idea of making YOUR version of Wonder Woman if they see you pissing all over this one?
Think about it people. Stop shooting yourselves in the foot with all the nerd-rage... -
Quote:I'm usually the type of person who prefers to "believe it when I see it" whether it's April 1st or not.And it's already April 1st in some parts of the world.
They've done elaborate stuff like this as a "haha, April Fools" thing before.
At the moment I'm not going to believe it.
But while it's always possible our Devs could come up with all sorts of April Fools jokes I doubt very seriously that they would ever choose to "joke" about the timing of the release of their next Issue. Releasing new content is vital to the future of the MMO from a business/profits point of view. Put it this way: Would you "joke" around with your livelihood?

Just about the only way "extra costume slots as Vet awards" would ever be remotely acceptable is if they retroactively gave us like one extra costume slot for every 12 months of Vet status (like they currently do to give us one extra character slot every 12 months).
But the idea that they might give us a costume slot as a brand new Vet award pegged at say the 90+ month mark would be very uncool.

Quote:The idea of a live-action Wonder Woman has been "set back" in the mainstream public eye for the last 32 years (*drink*). I almost can't imagine how a new show like this would make the chances for, well, any other new show like this any worse at this point. My worst-case scenario at the moment is that this could succeed in the same way as the Batman TV show of the 60s did - a solid mainstream success that actually sets the actual character back in the public eye while turning off comics fans.

As I said somewhere a while ago in this thread Wonder Woman has been so cold as a TV property for so long that even if this new show dies off quickly it'll at least be remembered as a "recent failure" rather than "a concept stuck in multi-decade limbo". *shrugs* -
Quote:Thanks for the reposts. I've already read these so I hope you weren't doing it for my benefit. Anyway I can almost imagine Whedon sitting around waiting for Wonder McBeal to fail just so that he can get a vague "I told you so" out of this. Thanks for the post, TrueGentleman. I'm posting the details for the benefit of our readers:
Speaking of inviting scrutiny: Wonder Woman. Why did you decide to take this on?
Well I first said no, for all the obvious reasons. It’s not really what I do; it’s not a genre that’s in my wheelhouse. But then I started thinking about, What if there were such a person in today’s world and what must it be like to be her? And I was imagining the sense of social isolation that she must feel, that she indeed would probably be a rather complicated beast. When I started thinking about all the complications and potential layers to this superhero, I just got more and more intrigued. It was also something I was a little bit afraid of. That’s good, too. Any writer should get out of his or her comfort zone, and this was way outside of mine.
So I took a deep breath and decided to go for it. I did not truthfully commit to doing it until I wrote the script. I was going to try writing it, and if I failed on my own terms, I would say no. If I thought, Yeah, this is something I believe in, then I’d turn it in. And it was something I ultimately did get behind. It was hard, but I had a good time writing it. And Warner Bros. and DC both responded very positively — and off we went.
Then you had to find your Wonder Woman.
It was not an easy search, but it went far quicker than I ever imagined. After writing this script, I remember looking at several people and going, "Yeah, now good luck trying to find her." She’s got to be strong, smart, emotionally accessible — and oh yeah, an Amazon! Good luck. I remember speaking to DC, and saying, "We may have to compromise on the physicality. We need to go with the best actress. And if the best actress is five-foot-five, we have to be open to that, because there’s too many layers for this character to also demand that she be nearly six feet tall." And then lo and behold, in comes this girl named Adrianne Palicki.
I had seen her on Friday Night Lights and I always liked her work, but I didn’t get a sense of her stature. I guess he was sitting down in a lot of the scenes. So she stood up, and we met — eyeball to eyeball — she smiled ... and I knew during the course of the conversation that this was Wonder Woman. I just knew it. I had an instinctive feeling that this was her. So then she read. And she was. And she is.

Quote:As far as we know Hurley is going to be a "villain" for Wonder Woman. This is a true statement that I will agree with you on. What is Hurley's role in this show? I thought she was like mother wonder woman or something. "IF" this show should make it, we will need to see a Wonder Woman eventually :-)
I'm sure they'll play up some kind of jealousy/hate thing she has against Wonder Woman. -
Quote:Thanks but the last 20-30 posts here have been talking about those changes among other things.Don't know if any of you saw these yet, but here are some still shots from production. The costume has already undergone adjustments from that initial photo.

Quote:I'm pretty sure that's what Elizabeth Hurley's going to be for, at the very least. Regardless I figure the longer this show lasts the higher the chance Lynda will be involved in some role, whether that has anything to do with being an Amazon or not.Hatch had a totally different role on BSG. Hatch is a guy too. The rules are diffferent for men. If Lynda shows up on the show they will compare the two. To insult/put a nail the new WW, they'll probably build up Lynda just to for spite/add excitement. Viewers love showdowns with Women!! Brings to mind WWF, Sable(Lynda) vs. Luna(new WW)

Quote:It's funny that, earlier, I was one of the ones who also actually pointed out that this show could end up being Wonder McBeal. As I pointed out earlier, this is a show by David E. Kelley. This likely isn't going to be the action series fans want but more like Ally McBeal: Superhero. Set expectations accordingly. It could be brilliant in the way Boston Legal was brilliant: funny, preachy, with hefty dollops of meta-humor. It could be more action-oriented (particularly based on those photos) but it's a safer bet it'll have elements of both the 1970s series and the 1960s Batman.
