Way to go on prejudging the changes before you've even tried them. You're showing EXACTLY the same attitude many people showed about ED, and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM were WRONG about it. ED was GOOD for the game, and IMO, so will this be.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now thats not quite true is it, ED was good for the game once inventions came along 18 months later or how ever long it was.

Before that ED [censored] up a lot of peoples characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What inventions did was bring WoW aspect to COH. I hate inventions now, and my opinion about ED has not changed. Still.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hate it or not, inventions or rather set bonus's filled the gaps left by ED.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Indeed. Under the the old system people put in a lot of work to get to the top of the heap.

It's understandable that they would feel resentful if someone kicks over the heap and levels it off.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its not just that, i for one have suffered a few swings of the nerf bat on various chars, and after 4 years im getting to the stage where i cant be arsed rolling new chars after the last one i liked playing in a certain scenario became un fun to play.

Anyway we get what we get, roll on the open beta.

If it made plot size increases practically affordable for a solo base like mine that'd be even nicer!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its not the actual cost of the plot upgrade thats the main hurdle (well its still a hurdle) its the rent that wants keeping an eye on.

As the devs could grant the refund anyway, with - I'm pretty sure - relatively modest work on their part and no need for us to edit bases at all, there's some annoyance that they aren't doing this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Im sure i remember a refund of prestige being given a fair while ago, i cant remember what it was for now.

But it does show that refunds dont need to be like this.

    [/ QUOTE ]
IIRC that was either the "Merging Heroes/Villans" or "NCSoft bought the game" celebration bonus; a flat amount per SG member. Which they finished up giving twice due to a server update mishap.

That would have been simpler to implement, as the amount credited was just "20k per member", but the same basic technique would apply for a price reduction refund and as you say, if they could do it then...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I remember that one, but im also sure there was another, i got a feeling it could have been when the basic plot size became free, but im not sure.

I have been reading this thread with interest, what puzzles me is why would you want to rip your base apart just to rebuild it because the prices have gone down,ok so you can increase the amount of prestige you have but is it worth it for the amount of work you are going to have to put in to rebuild, and what do you do with all the stuff you already have stored.I will be leaving my base alone and just be glad that I do not have to pay so much for anything else I might build.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Depends if you are interested in expanding and improving your base for your super group or not, but thats not really the point.

The point is why make the players jump through hoops (very very very boring, frustrating hoops) just to take advantage of this so called base improvement?

This is not an improvement for bases its an epic fail for bases, just like converting from base salvage to invention salvage is going to be, unless they alter access permissions.

"Sprint speed" > "Sprint speed + Caltrops" or "Sprint Speed + Webnade". You really think a Blaster and a Brute are going to stand immobile next to each other and keep hitting attack buttons until one of them dies?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not at all, i think the brute will just bash the blaster.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Under the current PvP rules? Sure.

But under the proposed changes in issue 13, when the Brute's resistance/defence/damage numbers will be scaled down as they increase, they can't keep "Aid Self"ing damage away, the Blaster doesn't need to worry about toggle drops, can't get mezzed for ages and has a decent amount of Defence/Resistance?

Frankly it could go either way. Both builds would be viable, and would have a decent chance of winning if their opponent played poorly. So it'd come down to player skill, which is what the devs are aiming for.

Assuming of course that Phase Shift gets nerfed somehow, because that would get old very quickly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heres the rub, i didnt make a brute to have it scaled down. I made it so it would be like a brute.

I dont really like the idea of my chars being genericed to be honest.

I think you and i might as well agree to disagree on this one

Who said "toe-to-toe"? Did I say "Toe to toe"? Really? I don't think I did...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Whats your definition of "duking it out" then? Because neither of you are going very far suppressed.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
oh well.. I will not bother with it anyway. The Court has over 13 million unused prestige.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A lot of small sg/vg's (the ones that would benefit most from this) wont be able to just do that though.

So they then have hours and hours of un interesting rubbish to go through.

This aint helping super group bases, its hindering them for no good reason.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Suppression will not mean instant death when both the attacker and the attacked are suppressed. It encourages them to stick around and duke it out rather than chase each other across half the map.

And yes, it's moving from ranged to melee. Every toon has attacks that work in melee range but far fewer have a decent number of ranged attacks. As it stands, melee toons have little or no effectiveness in PvP. So of course any change that promotes variation will need to move away from "ranged-only" viability.

To this end, they're increasing the survivability of toons so that the ones that normally rely on kiting/jousting or staying at range to stay alive (eg Blasters) can survive for longer in melee range.

In other words, it's moving away from a "Ranged Spike damage always wins" model to something more balanced, where a clash between two toons actually gives you enough time to trade blows before one of you dies.

    ...makes perfect sense to me...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats all well good and nice, except not all AT's were ever supposed to stand toe to toe and "duke it out".

I play a brute so this is all great for me, i still cant see the point of all this though if it just turns out to be a swing in the opposite direction, ie, melee for the win instead of ranged for the win.

I just hope it plays better than it looks.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Oh I dunno... If you buy a TV in Dixons one week, and a week later it's £50 less, do you expect a refund? I think we should count ourselves lucky there's ANY kind of refund!

    [/ QUOTE ]

What on earth has that got in common with having to waste hours stripping and rebuilding a base.

I think thats another ill thought out base change, thats 2 out of 2 bad base ideas so far.

Edit, in fact the more i think about that stupid idea, the worse it is, refund aside, theres all the salvage that needs to be re crafted to remake the items too.
  17. The join a Q till both teams are full then go have a pvp fight for xp plan being done in War seems to be working well im told.

I'm not convinced of that at all - my Super Group badge list has the badge bar listed, and we're 40% of the way through it - suggesting that two kills have been made, and three more are needed.

It is available to heroes, therefore. Just not through STF.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or you got a bugged badge, anyway let us know what happens when the bar fills, interesting that.
