Nice flashback, SlickRiptide! Thank you for sharing!
Quote:AFAIK, the globe was filled in for the same reason the original CoV Arachnos maps had to be updated with invisible walls. Players were falling through the holes. Or griefers were teleporting them into the geometry (this being before teleport prompts). Either way, players were getting needlessly stuck. The edges of the continents are obviously jagged and pixelated. One would assume that, again, it was due to placeholder graphics rather than finished graphics, but it may be that the "framework" style of globe was passed over because the open space would have made the edges too obviously "grainy". I'd be curious to find out just why the final design was changed to the solid globe that we all know and love.
Do I wish the Atlas globe was hollow so I could voluntarily teleport inside for a player-hosted party? Sure! But I also understand that /stuck didn't work reliably enough and the simpler solution is to have a solid globe.
In the end I like the upgrades in places and story arcs such as Faultline and Atlas Park. It will be interesting to seeing how other zones evolve, too. -
Had a fun time tonight on Team Zap!
While we the time of 1:15:52 and 11 defeats werw over our goals, we still easily got the Infiltrator and 7th Generation Paragon Protector badges. Plus there was plenty of XP to be had tonight between conversation about the upcoming Double XP weekend.
Thank you again for letting me join in, Freedom Horde! -
Oh, these made me smile! Especially...
Quote:Thank you, Steelclaw!* Overheard at the start of the 100-Meter Dash, Stone Armor Only Division: "Speed Boost!" "SB Meh!" "My kingdom for a Kinetics coach!"
* "And that was the Stone Armor Tanker entrant into the 50 meter platform diving competition... there will be a 30 minute break while we re-fill the pool..."
* "The investigation revealed that the Gold Medal winner in the event was not a Brute, but a Mind Control Dominator... had not actually competed... had not been listed on the entrant manifest in the first place... aaand was out of town at the time of the actual competition..."
* "Fencing is one blade... ONE..."
That made me laugh too, Fireheart. Especially after seeing the recent PERC competition. Base editors are incredible creative! -
Yeah... That about sums up the classic blaster.
Thank you for sharing! It is good to see you again, Steelclaw. *hug* -
Thank you very much for the run tonight, Freedom Horde! Team Luna completed Manticore in 52:08 minutes with 8 deaths. Extra thanks to those who used stealth and teleports on the speedy run.
I am very embarrassed that we didn't make the defeat goal because three of those were my fault. I didn't learn the first time when Panther Stealth failed to be enough for sneaking past Crey. The third time was when I didn't double-check that I was in a safe spot before standing up again. Oops and triple oops. -
Thank you for the links, LSK! Plus thanks to PERC and Zwillinger for hosting a walkthrough of all the contestants. The variety and skill level was astounding.
The final Rikti Monkey base was pretty cool. And if I had the inf I'd buy the amusement park. db

Team Scat had a fun time tonight!
Not sure why it said we had 0 defeats since we had three in the first mission alone. One of which was because I foolishly thought I was safe in my Spirit Tree healing spot.
Anyway, we did good and I think all non-50s got at least one level from the hour.
Thank you for letting me join in, Freedom Horde! -
Quote:The way they did it Friday (because all day Thursday the account system was down for maintenance) codes were privately mailed, so there was no pressure to apply the codes immediately.Yeah, I'm not nearly fast enough to get them. That plus they give them out while I'm at work and have 0% chance of using it.
Zwillinger reported that it took him and Hit Streak all day Friday to hand out the codes from the two times they offered them (the first time was 10 minutes, the second was 5 minutes; both times with plenty of heads-up at the same URL as the promotion), plus the time on Monday the spent handing out the rest of the codes because they reached their PM limit on Friday. It was good of them to put in so much more work to help a greater number of players participate. Being so labor-intensive, I'm not sure if they'll continue the private message practice or try something else this Thursday. -

I tried to log in late to join at least one run... and instead fell asleep from exhaustion while sitting at my desk before my alt fully loaded. (Keyboards make poor pillows, for the record.)
How did it go for those who made it? -
-
I probably will not make it tonight. Still involved in today's minor family emergency.
Good luck on the runs tonight! -
Quote:Update from Twitter: The codes this morning were for North America, costume aura Dark Matter.Did anyone get a Twitter code in a Direct Message this morning?
If so, was it a North America code? And what costume was it?
EU players can PM Zwillinger to swap their codes. -

A very personal and insightful response, Samuel_Tow. It takes a lot of courage to be so honest and open.
My personal hope is like all things that attempt to present an answer to anything, it will appeal to those who need the change or insight and not even seriously blip on the radar for those people to whom it will not apply.
Yes, that requires an unstated assumption. But I can't imagine any motivational talk could stay on topic if it had to constantly tell people if it applies to them. I believe it is the responsibility of the individual viewer to decide if they will benefit from applying advice to their life or pass on to other things. -
Well worth watching. I had known that certain things in my life made it better. It was nice to learn some whys behind those whats.
Thank you for the link! -
Oooh, badge runs! Thanks for offering to organize some, Atomic_Saint!
Dynexus (illusion/FF controller) is still missing:
- Master of Lambda Sector
Well-Stocked
Antacid
Lambda Looter
- Master of the Underground
Avatar Assassin
- Master of Minds of Mayhem
A Perfect Storm
Lost Connection to Server
- Master of Magisterium
Triple Threat
Ready to Rumble
and I'd be glad to help with other ones, too. -
Whew! Team Zap made it! I am still getting my heart rate down.
Took just under an hour with 35 deaths. Think it took us three waves. We had the Hydra down to a sliver of health after the second strike, then had to retreat from the respawn ambushes that nearly got us a team wipe.
Only had one false start on the generators, not bad at all. Oh, and we missed Ravensheart for a minute when their cat pulled out their video cable, but thankfully they recovered quickly. ;->
Big KUDOS to Chao for directing us, Ted for hauling my fallen hide to safe revive spots, all the team buffs that helped us power through the end, and the rest of the team who did amazing! -
Prosys
Level 50 Controller, Illusion/Kinetics
Dinged just now 7/8/2012 during Starkindred's RWZ raid. Thanks to Bowne for leading when Starkindred DCed. -
Quote:Has anyone actually been able to get the day job in the lobby of Night Ward's Midnighter Mansion? I logged a hero* out there, but in spite of the "Midnighter" day job icon showing up under the health bar, no badge was awarded after being logged out for 23 days. Not even a progress bar showed up.
*Edit: Correction, three heroes encountered this lack of day job progress when I checked tonight. (Lunar Flaire, Nadirance, Zenitheon) -

Thank you very much for letting me join in on Numina this week, Freedom Horde!
Team Iceflow finished at 1:24:22 time with 6 deaths. Most of those were in the second-to-last map. Tough crowd.
Thanks to an earlier PUG for Manticore (a week I missed), I got the Task Froce Commander badge tonight. Hopefully the extra HP will keep me from faceplanting so much. -
Wanted to say a big "Thank You" to all those who contributed to this thread! Best thing I've read today.
What I enjoy most is that all the positive things are true. And reading about how welcoming and casual City of Heroes is makes me excited all over again for my gameplay time tonight.
Thanks, CoH community! -
Thank you again very much TopDoc for the badge hunt! Well worth the 2+ hours to get the shiny.
