jranger was a poster infamous for answering nigh ANY thread with the single word answer "no". no explanation, etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Alright... that's starting to come back to me now... maybe I did see that guy.

    Anyway, thanks for that.
  2. Apparently /jranger is something awesome that I totally missed when I was gone for a while... what was it? Why was it so awesome?
  3. Is there any way we can have our non-combat pets (mini-mekman, impish demon, etc...) be granted the ability to remain summoned while zoning?

I really, really like those pets, but I never cast them, and the simple reason is that it's not worth it because I know I'm just gonna have to cast it again when I zone in a couple minutes. Is there any way we can have them become permanent when cast, with the ability to dismiss them? I think you'd find thawt many more people would enjoy, appreciate and use them if they weren't such a pain in the butt to maintain.
  4. Base Transporters
    Automatic Travel Power
non-combat pet (although they're not persistant between zones, which irritates me)

    That's in no particular order...

There are NO bad powers in the /fire secondary, only misunderstood powers. Theory doesnt always add up to how things perform. The worst way to play a fire/fire is with manueverability, you stand there and dish out the damage, masses of it, thats how you put the mobs down fast and thats how you are safest. Fire/Fire excels at aoe damage and BA racks up impressive damage over time, as for combustion, thats got a 15 ft radius and hitting 10 foes with it is far better than tossing out a fire blast, in fact using it as its aoe is intended its more than NINE fire blasts.

a lot of the secondary powers seem terrible, I took them all for a joke but in use and unison they are insanely powerful, fire/fire is a walking nuke, leaving out your aoes only weakens your core strengths. Try them and see, its a lot of fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There is some truth to this.

However, I would argue very strongly with your assertion that maneuverability is a weakness for a fire/fire blaster. I consider myself a decent blaster, and I've been around for a while, and Liv relies heavily on maneuverability. He has a number of PBAoE abilities, but Combustion is not one of them, neither is Hot Feet.

The problem with your assertion is that you have to play your blaster like a tank or a scrapper. That might work with the right team and with the right procs, but a level 35 blaster trying to take on Freaks, Crey and DE while standing still, on the ground probably isn't the best idea. I've tried it, it didn't work out so well. The reality is that while many powers rack up impressive damage over time, when you're working with a /fire blaster you just don't have the kind of time it takes to make it really worthwhile. It's gotta be in, kill, out.

Range might not be a defense for blasters, as we're all very aware, but it can be used as a makeshift damage mitigator because if you can keep the mobs at range then they'll use their less-damaging range attacks. Now, that being said the proper use of the /fire secondary necessarily requires melee range, but when playing solo it's often best used as a finisher once you've cleared one or two of the spawn with your more rangey attacks.

All that aside, at the same time I can see how a /fire blaster on a nice big team with a decent tank or controller can accomplish what you're talking about, but at that point you're not in any real danger, so you can afford to stroll through the mobs with relative impunity. But when you're solo, or on a small team it's a different story.

You know, ever so often there are clues that contradict themselves in their very own text. Like, say, a clue that directs you to where you can find Fieldmarshal Bulech, who turns into Archon Cassidy when you enter his mission, or how Desert Adder is called Sidewinder in one spot. But today was the first time I found a clue that contradicted itself TWICE.

    Map of Eden
You found this map of Brickstown on one of the Devouring Earth creatures you defeated. A large X has been scrawled across one corner of the map, and the word 'Terra' is scribbled above it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

When I spoke with Gigner Yates, she sent me to the location on the map, which was in Talos Islan.

Let's back up for a sec and review. I found a map of Eden which shows a location in Brickstown which is in Talos Island. Maybe when I enter the instance, I will end up in Steel Canyon which is in Atlas Park!

I understand that it's hard to keep all text properly proof-read and that many of the older missions have undergone many, many transformations (No, Independence Port was not attacked by a space armada. The Security chief is lying.) and I can sort of understand Maria Jenkins' bio stating she was the first one to notice the Statesman was missing... When he actually isn't... But there's just a border past which these mistakes stop being mistakes and get just plain old funny

Dude, have you seen this thread? There's nothing but silliness here. It's a thread about who's a celebrity. On a game forum.

It's nice to be appreciated, I don't mean to take away from the nice things that people have said about others and myself, but it's pretty silly. Hardly the place where I'd expect to find scintillating conversation and exchanges of an eriudite nature.

But silly is good too, sometimes.

It would seem that not everyone agrees he is the plague to end all plagues.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hitler and Stalin were easily among the top 20 most influential men in history, but they were still the plague to end all plagues. Not that I'm comparing Jack to murderers of millions upon millions of innocent people, but the point still stands

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow..........over a video game!.........Some of you people seriously need to get out more often and find yourselves a life. To compare a developer of a video game to those people..........wow.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And some of you need to drop the ellipses and go learn basic English comprehension, because frankly, you suck at it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Shatneresque pauses notwithstanding, he's right. You compared the designer of a video game to two mass murderers and the immediately said "Not that I'm comparing them". You *did* compare them. You didn't say they were equivalent, but you did compare them.

    Tacky and tasteless.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You're missing the point. The point was that he was making was that "influential" means just that; he had an influence, greater so than many. It's neither good nor bad, it simply is. I think you'd be hard-pressed to argue that Hitler and Stalin weren't also influential in their own right.

All he was doing was pointing out that saying someone's "influential" isn't a value judgement. It's neither good nor bad.

One of the most immersion breaking aspects of all MMOs has always been the fact that no matter how many hours and days and weeks I spend in a zone "patroling" and cleaning it up, I can never seem to make a difference.

I know, I know... but still, it irks me.

If it makes anyone feel any better Smedley was actually higher on the list than Jack, and he presided over the destruction of SWG and the launch of EQ2 which has not lived up to the success of its predecessor. Oh, and he killed MXO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heh... "Smedley" is the name I use when I can't think of the name of the guy I'm talking about. Like "Bloggins" or something. Y'know what I'm talkin', eh? When you can't think of someone's name and you just make something up to call them?

    Yah, for me it's "Smedley".
  19. Influential doesn't necessarily mean good or bad, just that they had an impact.

    And he did... certainly.

I have a kind of love/hate thing going on with Jack "The sun shines out of my bum" Emmert. I love that he started CoH, I love the idea and I think he's got a great imagination, but I despise him as an active lead designer for current games.

He'd be great in terms of thinking ideas up, developing them and launchign them, but after about the first six months he's gotta go before he start breaking stuff.

    Alright, fair enough. Carry on.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
I haven't done a Scanner or Safeguard mission CoH-side in months, and there is a very good reason for this - they SUCK. Sure, one safeguard every now and then, maybe, but I got too burned on CoV's stupid setup to ever want to go near a scanner mission unless I absolutely had to. That I absolutely have to CoV-side keeps me away from them, as well. And people talk about better design. At least CoH-side I don't have to spend two hours to get ANY contacts in my current level range.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And, y'know, it's a shame... it really is. They're a great idea, but the problem is that there are only three missions in the pool. Escort/Kidnap, steal/recover and "Kill Duder and his buddies". That's it.

If they're going to insist that you do five missions before you safeguard/rob the bank, then maybe they can spice it up a little, maybe they can do something like have it be a little mini-arc or something. I don't know, just... something.

My low-forties Scrapper: Hunt 100 Crey mission. Seriously, ONE HUNDRED? What the.... I don't think that hunt missions should ever be more than 25.

    [/ QUOTE ]

At least on the Redside most Hunt missions will count the enemies that you fight inside door missions as long as they didn't specify a zone to fight them in. I regularly knock out two missions at once that way.

Blueside? Nope, pretty much never works. Really annoyed the last hero that I leveled to 50.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It almost always works for me unless they specify a zone. Can you give an example of a place where this doesn't work? *Shrug*

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's always worked for me too. The only time that's not the case is when they actually specify a place you're supposed to do it, but if it's just "Kill x number of mob y" and they don't specify a region of a zone you can do it anywhere and in any mission.

To me, the decision to make a game that already had no more than a third of the contacts of City of Heroes AND lock a good third of THOSE is one of the worst decisions made by the development team since the I3 boss buffs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's a snowscreen. It's precisely because they only have a third of the real content that blue-side does that they do this, it ensures that a character never runs out of contacts before they roll-over into the next quintet of levels.

Of course, I couldn't give two poops about that, all I know is that it's an annoyance and an impediment to the game. I'm fairly certain that's the reason why it is, but quite frankly as far as I'm concerned knowing the answer (probably, I don't know for sure, for sure) doesnt' make it any less irritating or disruptive.

I only have one character in Villains, a level 31 Brute, and I never play him because I can't bring myself to do four more of those [censored] newspaper missions, so there he'll stay unused and morose until Rogue comes out, then over to Paragon he goes.
