I don't know if I'd slot the Dwarf Strike that much. It seemed pretty weak even fully slotted when I previously tried it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Compared to the Nova, ooh yes ... but it means I CAN stand there and pound on an EB if needed. With the two crushings it isn't too shabby, given how often I get to mire. -

Double Sciroccos, Positrons and Crushings? Good luck finding the money
[/ QUOTE ]
well, the 3 sets of wings that dropped and the miracle +recovery helped with that ... but I am about 30-40 mill in so far (it helps that my other hero main is completely hami-oed out, so all cash goes to the WS)
just GETTING the recipes is that hard bit (I have about 20 mill in bids in)...
Crushing Impact was amazingly easy to get.
Posi's I had to drop a couple of levels but I've got the recharge (eclipse has a downtime of 5 seconds).
Scirrocco, I'm thinking of giving up on, as I just can't get the damn things no matter how much I bid. -
This is for somebody that was asking for it. I'm not incredibly up to speed with sets, so if anyone wants to chip in/snipe, knock yourselves out.
The slotting is pretty playstyle dependant (tri form all the way).
Note I can't remember where we are on the whole "set bonuses go across forms/no they don't roundabout". I think the set bonuses do, but that's all.

Fury might be a problem, but will have to see about that when things start piling up. I think I prefer the idea of survival over fast fury buildup in this case.
[/ QUOTE ]
Solo you'll want to leave some of the /DA stuff off but oppressive gloom and cloak of fear can both be on while you tank for an 8 person team with full fury... bring a /kin though. -
while it is great out of the box, I tend to slot one end reduc (so I can use it at near rock bottom end), followed by one recharge and one end mod.
I recently got a doctored wounds (?) end reduc/recharge/heal so I threw that in to replace the end reduc .. works great. The heal part isn't really needed but nice to have. -

Oh it so is
[/ QUOTE ]
hey - I have a lvl 50 Illusionist and while PA is fantastic, it doesn't have the all round utility of a number of other powers in game - vs AVs etc, it really shines but there are other powers that are more consistently awesome. -

the actual build looks good, apart from the comments already made. -
well, it isn't how I play but it IS close enough for me to offer a few comments ...
it can be viable (VERY viable after 34 or so).
I'd suggest slotting up BOTH Nova AoEs, since you'll take down a lot with the two of them.
Slotting on Dwarf form - go with something similar to what they suggest here
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...=0#Post8472763
(I've included the text below).
You'll basically end up tanking for your pets while they do *most* of the damage until you get fully IO slotted.

Black Dwarf Powers
Black Dwarf Strike Low Damage, High Recharge Melee Attack with some knockdown
Solo Rating: 5/5
Available at level: 20
Slotting: 6 Slotted Crushing Impact IO Set
Comments: As you will spend a lot of your solo career in Dwarf Form, you want to six slot this. Pre-I9, this wasnt a very good idea, but the Crushing Impact Set give you crazy good bonuses that make Dwarf form a decent DPS form. Once you double up with Black Dwarf Smite, and slot the other dwarf powers for end mod, you can stay in this form almost indefinitely End wise unless there are Sappers or Mu's present.
Black Dwarf Smite High Damage, slower recharge melee attack
Solo Rating: 5/5
Available at level: 20
Slotting: 6 Slotted Crushing Impact IO Set
Comments: See Black Dwarf Strike above, definitely six slot both of these with the same set.
Black Dwarf Mire Sunless Mire, now in Dwarf!
Solo Rating: 5/5
Available at level: 20
Slotting: 1 Acc, 2-3 Recharge
Comments: Lots of uses for this power solo. First, in many missions there will be one minion and one boss at the end. It may not seem worth it, but use mire here for only the 2 mobs. The extra damage and accuracy will help against the Boss, especially with those resistant to Negative Energy attacks. Chances are itll be recharged (with Hasten running) before the boss is down, so use it again. Every little bit helps. To double mire solo, it's wise to lead with this form (especially pre-eclipse) to soak the alpha, then double mire.
Black Dwarf Drain Same as Essence Drain, but more useful as youll be in Dwarf Form a lot.
Solo Rating: 4/5
Available at level: 20
Slotting: 1 Acc, 1 Recharge, 1 Endredux IO, 1-3 Heals if slots available
Comments: Keep in mind, this is more of an attack than a heal. Dont get me wrong, the heal is nice, but youre better served to keep the attack chain going. The main drawback to this power is that its a huge End hog, which is the only thing keep it from 5 Rating status. Slot it with at least 1 EndRedux, 2 if you can spare it, but 1 should be fine.
Black Dwarf Step AKA Teleport for Dwarves
Solo Rating: 4/5
Available at level: 20
Slotting: 1 End Redux
Comments: Great for TPing into spawns to mire, and TPing out of sticky situations.
Black Dwarf Antagonize Taunt
Solo Rating: 5/5
Available at level: 20
Slotting: 1-2 Acc OR 1 Acc IO and 1 Taunt
Comments: Great for keeping mobs off your precious Fluffies. I got a lot more mileage out of this power than I was expecting. Dont waste too many slots on it, but definitely at least slot it for accuracy.

Welcome to the game by the way, even if you did pick the "wrong" server
The forum isn't actually all that quiet - the mods come in with a hoover and get rid of a lot of the good stuff you see.
-
You really don't have any idea what your doing
. the good news is, I didn't even after reading all the guides and playing 3 warshades that I promptly deleted
. I finally got one to stick on attempt no. 4. Still only in the 30s but it is amazingly good fun (eventually). Expect to respec frequently as your idea of what you want to do changes (I never planned on slotting dwarf and now aim to fully slot it, for example).
Over and above what has been said in the previous reply I'd strongly suggest getting hasten and 3 slotting it. Superspeed is a good pick too (I don't have either penumbral shield or twilight shield since I'm hardly ever in human form long enough to toggle everything). I also intend to take hurdle, health etc. mainly because I want powers that will have *some* use, but not require any slots - which you'll never have enough of.
Also, no gravity well? I'd suggest getting that asap with two accs - tp foe the quant/void next to you, queue up the hold, switch to squid and blow the tar out of it - it will really help with survivability. -

so you're down to calling people dumb for wanting a chance to at least be able to put up a decent fight when outnumbered. Not be able to beat them, just have a chance.... How very nice of you.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really wish I could understand how a game could simultaneously be balanced such that any AT should have a 'fair' chance vs any other AT AND one player should have a chance when outnumbered. I'm not trying to pick a fight, I think those two stated aims are mutually exclusive is all, unless everybody gets massive burst damage and it turns into city of stalkers. That's the only way I could see it working and I wouldn't want to play that game.
[ QUOTE ]
Yet in PvP I last 10 seconds in open fights, yeah thats balanced.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually
[ QUOTE ]
05-26-2007 20:46:16 [Team]Villain One: [Target] -> Hero one
05-26-2007 20:46:20 Villain Three has defeated Hero one
[/ QUOTE ]
I make it four seconds. Now please don't think I pointed that out to make you feel bad. Look at the line immediately above it. The team lead looked through all the heroes at that turret, identified you as the main threat and we go to work. I (the brute) and the dominator are buffed with forge + tactics. I dive in hitting build up, a second before everyone else so you automatically (unless you've been at this a while) respond to the only visible threat. I hit with stun (3 accs) which is the only PvP specific power I have (45, 47 and 50 will all be PvP powers though, although I wasn't 45 until after our little get together). I've also got oppressive gloom going, so you'll be continually getting stun layered on you. Mean while, while you're looking at big ugly in front of you, the domi is flying above just layering holds on you. I think fire also gets a stun move as well...
Once I hear fulcrum shift go off from the kin, I unload energy torrent + total focus. Meanwhile the two corruptors just lay damage into you until you drop. I'm the only thing in melee range and if you did manage to damage me, I've got a transfusion/warmth and my own dark regeneration all going off within three seconds.
end result: you go down in four seconds. Then we worry about the others, since oppressive gloom/cinders(?) etc. should have kept them busy.
Now really, do you think any game where four player deliberately target you in such a way as to limit your options like that AND you have a chance to take one of them down would be balanced? You're saying it isn't fair that you didn't have a chance... I'm just pointing out that the way the team was structured, you shouldn't realistically have had a chance, unless your team was similarly organised (to be honest I can't remember who else was at the turret with you but it did seem to be very much a collection of individuals).
[ QUOTE ]
This frustration has really come over many months, with RV really just being breaking point.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
It's not a personal thing parse, I'm just getting sick and tired of spending time in PvP, learning tactics that work well from observing other people fighting, applying them to my build, working hard, then finding that none of that matters because every single shield I've got can't prevent being held straight away. That my damage scratches other people for about 5% while sets with lower damage can take whacking great chunks out and that some sets get toggledrop powers that are effective, whilst melee types have to make do with brawl.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is entirely possible to drive yourself mad thinking that way. As I said, I went back on later on heroes and the team were in Warburg on villains. I got spanked, repeatedly. With a meat tenderiser. The dom just hangs back layering holds and immobs on you while somebody else gets up close and keeps you occupied. I didn't have fly on my hero, so it was effectively game over (apart from the one time the nemesis staff actually hit). If it is any consolation, he annoyed the [censored] out of me as well when I was on the receiving end

Not wanting to take part on the argument, I think heroes are better than villains in really big teaams. In 4v4 or less I think they are quite even, tho. But a group of corruptors need to really suck big time to have some hard time in rv

You were a level 45 character, hitting a well slotted PvE character who had 3 shields, Magus accolade, stealth slotted for defence and elude and you think you guys aren't overpowered?

Check the powers outlined. Tactics, Aim, Forge. The other point to bear in mind is that it wasn't me that took you down, although the fulcrum shifted built up energy Torrent probably helped.

Well, actually I've been revising for exams next week. I've spent under an hour in RV total and 2 hours in CoH total. Check the timestamps - all of this happened in less than 10 minutes (my SG mates were already in the zone and I don't know how ong they'd been there). After you guys left RV was empty, so we left too. I don't have a problem with trash talking - I honestly thought accusing us of using autohit holds was one of the funniest things I'd heard in ages. Accusing villains of being overpowered struck me as hilarious, since I play both sides and think heroes are in general superior in PvP. I much prefer villains for actual PvE play.
[ QUOTE ]
Now you KNOW that you cant see an opponents powers in PVP, but from the rate that you dropped everyone, it's a reasonable supposition to think its a PvP build you're using, especially given the punishment that my ( Whole ONE level 50 character that I play CoH with, hence the accolades ) character can take.
[/ QUOTE ]
It isn't a PvP build, although the powersets (Energy Melee/Dark Armour) can be effective if you have some buffs covering the shortcomings.

You guys might have a good laugh at my broadcasts,

Come on, auto hit holds? You have to admit that was funny. -
2 corrs (Fire/Kin, something /Thermal I think), 1 dom (Fire/Ice?) and a brute (EM/DA)
A couple of nice buffs/debuffs (always nice) and a bunch of people that know how to play as a team ... as I said, I tried to gank them later that night and they tore me a new one (I WAS on my spines/regen, which, let's be honest, lacks a little in PvP - z axis movement and a skillful player). -
Here's a cleaned up chat log from Union RV last night. I've removed anything that could identify the players involved, other than to note I was clearly one of them. As far as rampant self justification goes, this one is in my all time top ten (I'm not referring to myself, you may feel free to do so
).
I've also kept in comments from both sides that put them in a less than flattering light, apart from one blaster who kept swearing around the filter using substitution (not that it was needed, I'd have seen the word anyway).

05-26-2007 20:47:49 [Broadcast]Hero one: holds that auto hit and drop toggles
yeah, those crazy game developers putting autohit holds in that drop toggles (just for villains). Didn't they realise there would be a PvP imbalance if they did that?
05-26-2007 20:47:54 [Broadcast]Villain Two:What?

I was wrong here, as we'll see. I assumed it was PFF since he was just standing there (which normally means someone has PFF up, as opposed to a normal shield, and is either being smug or acting as bait)

Shortly after all the heroes left, the team moved over to warbug because there was nobody else in RV - clearly, if we WERE just farming, we'd have done that.

05-26-2007 20:53:11 [Broadcast]Hero one: im just going to logoff, its no fun fighting and losing because of game inbalance
you know, I've NEVER seen anyone lose because they were fighting a better opponent. Strange, isn't it? I'm guilty of the same reasoning my self of course. PvP being a game of rock-paper-scissors and all, you can always console yourself with the thought that the build that beat you is a "cheap" autowin one against you
05-26-2007 20:53:19 [Broadcast]Villain Two:Well, my, I am upset.

05-26-2007 20:54:23 [Broadcast]Hero one: so stalkers invis, domination, scourge etc. I get critical hit, which every time it hits, just causes you guys to self heal... wow
We'll ignore that those powers are also one per AT and assume villains get all of them. And ALL villains get a self heal. Contact support if you can't find yours in the power list
05-26-2007 20:54:24 [Broadcast]Villain One: You really do suck though, I've played against a few sucky people in my time and you're one of them.

05-26-2007 20:54:38 [Broadcast]Me:weird, cause when I come in with my heroes, villains tell me heroes are overpowered
This is true, actually
05-26-2007 20:54:40 [Broadcast]Villain Three: Not self-heal, we have a healor.

05-26-2007 20:54:57 [Broadcast]Hero one: i think its rather that i have a social life rather than a level 50 pvp build

05-26-2007 20:55:49 [Broadcast]Villain Two:Anyway, bye bye from my gfriends list. Shame, you seemed alright when we had a chat in Siren's one day. When you were on you ZOMG OVERPOWERED STALKER.
05-26-2007 20:55:57 [Broadcast]Villain One: ahahahaha
05-26-2007 20:56:51 [Team]Villain Two: Yeah, he was seriously on my friends list, btw.
05-26-2007 20:56:55 [Team]Villain Two: Until a minute ago, anyway.
05-26-2007 20:56:55 [Team]Villain Three:
05-26-2007 20:57:07 [Team]Me: villains overpowered? auto hit? [censored]
05-26-2007 20:57:27 [Broadcast]Hero Three:bye [censored] this is a waste of mt time fighting u
05-26-2007 20:57:45 [Broadcast]Me: agreed, you don't last long enough for us to get rep
05-26-2007 20:57:48 [Broadcast]Villain Two: Damn, so no hide and go seek?
05-26-2007 20:57:49 [Broadcast]Villain Three: :/
05-26-2007 20:57:51 [Broadcast]Villain One:fighting us == dying repeatedly, amirite? :/
I then went off to do more revision and when I came back logged on to CoH, saw my old team were in Warburg on villains (same team) so went in as a hero on /hide and /ghide.
They wiped the floor with me repeatedly. I think it was something like 30-2 to them. Even when I got in a team with the few other heroes left, we just didn't work well enough against them to make an impact.
Of course, my hero (scrapper) is only 35, not fully slotted, yada yada yada.
I eventually gave it up as a bad job and left for the night, but I didn't moan about overpowered villains, or cheap powers instead of skill. I DID ask one of the dominators what on earth he kept hitting me with since it was very effective, it wasn't anything my fire troller doesn't already have. -
Storm/Rad might be better on paper (I don't know that for a fact, but I suspect it may be true), but I have a lot of fun with storm/psi. More of a concept build than anything else but a lot of fun.
