I have to admit to being a little disappointed with the Patron Powers (or PP as I like to call them, after a post I saw in the US. Yes, I'll be playing with Mako's PP on test for a while ...)
This is purely in comparison with some of the Hero APPs, although typically only one or two (force of nature for blasters, the controller mez protection, the psychic defender one, focussed accuracy). It is almost inevitable that SOME of the combinations I was hoping for are not possible (as a /kin with a buffable nuke and a group sleep/hold would be horrifically overpowered - of course, you CAN get them on the hero side...)
As a kin I can see the point of
Ghost Widow
- mainly for Soul Drain. I know a couple of people who have arrived at the same conclusion as you.
Black Scorpion
- AoE immob with -fly and -jump. Useful for PvP I would imagine.
Mako
Nothing you can't get elsewhere, however, if you have a thing for sharks ... no puke attack sadly
Scirocco
With transference you don't NEED power sink. However, if you have both you might be able to build a sapper, plus taking both would presumably enable you to skip stamina and protect you from the odd misses of either power. The lack of an AoE immob isn't too great though. Resists energy though, which would be useful against all those /NRG blappers.
I think a fair amount also depends upon what exact abilities each pet has - if the Coralax Blue Hybrid buffs you while the rest are straight damage dealers, I expect it to be more popular (for example).
I'm also curious as to what would happen if you turned rogue - would you have access to the Defender or Blaster APPs (two 'closest' heroic ATs)? either one has a particular pool I could cheerfully kill for (aforementioned psychic/forcefield powersets) - although I'd have to do the heroic content again
I can actually see me switching to lowbie alts in COX until more information is available regardless... -
I've already got an EM/DA to 40 and am now looking at levelling up
SS/Stone
FA/FM
SS has a great attack at 8 plus rage.
FA has sick amounts of damage
or you could just wait for I7 and give Elec/Elec/Elec a spin (along with everyone else)
-
I'd think about taking one (I took superspeed as I wanted hasten anyway) and then respeccing out at 27 (to save yourself about 1.1 M INF and put up with no "real" travel power for one more level...)

Needs to be able to solo and team, and PVP if possible, although I'll probably leave that until I've worked through the PvE stuff.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ice/Kin is great, although I personally find certain levels extremely frustrating (33,34 and 36,37 spring to mind). I'd think about squeezing 3 recharge into siphon speed if at all possible. Once you have it triple stacked (just) and hasten up, you'll be an ice dispensing gatling gun
I'd suggest getting bitter ice blast earlier as you'll miss it in your attack chain. Bitter Freeze Ray I've respecced out as I find it pretty useless for PvP and in PvE I can either double stack freeze ray in about the same time or (in the case of hold resistant bosses) applied so much -SPD they do the baywatch run towards me (without the jiggling sadly)
Blizzard I have no acc in (and no leadership) and it hits even purple bosses just fine. I'd swap it for a recharge or think about another to hit buff in tactics. You do NOT want to miss with most of the /kin powers... looks pretty solid though. Have fun.
Give us a shout on Union (Ice Blight) if you see me and I'll show you how my build plays if you like. -

So my question is if anyone has any ideas of how to slot/use Confusion so that it can be usefull in a pvp zone or arena match?
[/ QUOTE ]
2 Acc, 3 Duration. Target the pets firsttanks with taunt on auto-fire are good too.
And if you ever time it just before recovery aura or a nuke, you'll know why it is so insanely great -

The fact that a lot of people have told me "You are the best controller I've ever teamed with" and almost invariably follow it up with "even if you are an illusionist" says a lot.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm, wrong thread for this Light Petting. It belongs in the thread "Circumstantial self-glorification" Also they obviously hadn't teamed with my trollers before...
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey, I didn't ask them to say it ... you're focussing on the first part of that statement rather than the second ...
I can't help being truly wonderful can I?
The point I was making is that people were genuinely surprised at the amount of control I could put out, as an Illusionist (since back then in the depths of time Ill/* was much more about massive knockback and damage from the 3 phantasms rather than that pesky "control" stuff).
And most of the people I'm talking about have sadly since left for pastures new. I'm also pretty much exclusively villainous at the moment, with only my Spines/Regen, Fire/Kin or Mind/Storm getting any attention on the heroic side... -
[ QUOTE ]
I have to completely dissagree here, Illusion Control is just amazing, it's by far the most fun and chaotic, but that's why it's so beautiful.
You can over-do Control, I think, that's what the rest of them does - Illusion does it's Control in a better way, it's still doing that Control all the time, while contributing heavily to damage. Illusion doesn't lack Control, it just has the perfect ammount.
[/ QUOTE ]
I never said I didn't think it was amazing - I did take it to 50 and wrote a couple of mini-novels praising it to the skies after all
I do think that a lot of people find Illusion control-lite in large teams (I'd say it lacks in hard control, although control through superior firepower is always an option). The fact is that a lot of people don't like teaming with illusionists or actively state "Controller required (Illusion need not apply)."
Containment has also been added since I started and as other have said, different powersets have more ways of setting up containment than illusion - which can make a big difference to damage output given the reduction in pets.
Please don't misinterpret what I'm saying - I genuinely do like Illusion and would pick it first time to play over and over again (/Kin, /Storm, /Rad). I also solo a lot. IF I was to make a "team friendly" controller, I probably would pick something other than illusion because most other controller primaries slot into a team with less effort. The fact that a lot of people have told me "You are the best controller I've ever teamed with" and almost invariably follow it up with "even if you are an illusionist" says a lot. I do agree that it is perspective - your sentence "it is by far the most chaotic" to me screams "not controlled!" but I could be misreading that.
You can over do control and illusion has more than enough for solo or small teams - but if I wanted to keep 7 other people safe given the reduction in hold durations and recharge increase, where nobody else has a hold (unlikely I know) I wouldn't be looking at illusion. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'd almost never pick an Illusionist for a team over other Controllers, if we're just basing this entirely on primary powerset

*SOBS*
I believe that's how I ran into your SG in the first place with their rabid anti-illusion bigotry
Illusion is lacking in the control department and without the right sort of secondary (i.e., one with a large control element itself) I wouldn't consider playing it. I DID play it to 50, so it isn't like I rabidly dislike it or anything ...
I can honestly say I've had great fun teaming or playing mind, grav, fire, earth and ice. I can also say secondary makes a BIG difference in this - certain combinations of primary/secondary are so effective it just isn't funny... -

Past 38, Fire/Kin for the win!
Easy Peasy
fixed that up for you -
Mind/Kin or Mind/Storm, maybe Fire/kin (I haven#t played one of these since containment came in, so this one is pure speculation).
really, since containment all controllers have been able to solo better. Since mind (I believe) does slightly more damage to compensate for the lack of a pet, it benefits more.
EDIT: gets ready for Grav/ etc. to tear him a new one. I have never played Grav ... or earth, or Ice) so I can't comment on them for soloing purposes... -

Well, it takes time for domination to build up and there aren't many PvP dominators anyway ...

The Arena channel is to be used for Arena events.

AM is for /rad corruptors
[/ QUOTE ]
yeah, posted pre-morning coffee and read that as Ice/Rad for some reason ...
Rad blast is a lot less hungry than Ice though (my Ice/Kin bottomed out every fight pre-transference, my Rad/Rad rarely has to stop, even when AM is not up) -
[ QUOTE ]
I've been fine as a rad/kin non-stamina (less toggles though) build in Sirens. If anything the hit+run style of PvP is more suited to staminaless builds than PvE.
[/ QUOTE ]
Presumably you do have accelerate metabolism though?
I have an Ice/Kin (2 more levels till the sweetness that is fulcrum shift) and I would not like to try and PvP in SC without stamina - even with stamina you can hit empty far too often. You could probably do very well against most things but anything with a lot of hit points will leave you gasping.
That said, you can build an Ice/Kin with stamina under 30 without sacrificing too much... -

The chances of getting the mob you want killed first are utterly minute. The chances of them aggroing the next spawn and then not actually finishing anything off are always far, far higher.

There are ways around that you know -

My word of advice is, dont team with Weed Dominators or Ice dominators. They ruin all your hard work.
[/ QUOTE ]
Care to elaborate?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think he means their powers are much more visual, so people think they contribute more
Seriously, when I played an illusionist I used to hate teaming with ice or stone - as if we both stacked holds, did people notice the flash around the eyes or the fact they were encased in stone/ice?
I have a mind dominator (and an ice, and a plant) and I can honestly say I've never had any issues teaming with any other dominator - certain powers in each set need to be worked around (Ice slick and immobs for example) but that's all part of the game ... -
[ QUOTE ]
Fair enough when someone is suggesting sending a lone low mook ahead to absorb an alpha strike. It's the people who think that the purpose of a Mastermind is to send all his pets into the middle of the fight and use them to pull and tank.
[/ QUOTE ]
Getting back to the OP, I notice you don't have a problem with sending a minion in to soak up the alpha. I think part of the problem is that stateman (I think) said in a post somewhere that he thought masterminds were the tankers of CoV ... I can see what he's getting at (I played an illusionist for 50 levels after all) but also see your point of view - you are not saying you won't send a lowbie summon in, just not all of them to play tanker (which is perfectly reasonable).
I am stealing that dialogue (monologue?).
And (to a different poster, I know you didn't say it) by not "sacrificing 1/3 of your damage output" it is entirely possible you will get someone else to sacrifice 100% of theirs... -
