Inv has good s/l resist at already low lvl, easy to pick out the s/l-based missions if you go PvE alot (family, hellions, mookies!!). EA i think will be far better in I7 (if i understand the new defence system ok). Also EA gets conserve power and the end-drain power, a bit more active and usefull then the inv set. Inv though is king of the s/l resist.
EM becomes very strong once you get Total focus/Energy Transfer, before that you just have to rely on fury. SS gets knockout blow at lowerlvl, great power. I like both sets, its a mather of preference.

I made a fire/fire, has been decent fun so far, to lvl 18
Cant really comment wether or not its good for pve later, but ive read several posts proclaiming fire primary, and fire/fire, kings of PvE damage output
Full fury bar, + build up + fiery embrace + flaming sword cicle = dead pack of enemies

Fire/Fire is a lovely set 
atm my brute is 35. Also I would like to know where I can read about the system -_-. I would go with EM/Inv :P, Simply beacuse High DMG and High S/L res.
EM is the only brute that does enough damage to regularly pull agro from my fire/DA
And yes for PVE I'd recomend Inv. Defence is not getting increased in I7, just balanced so that higher level foes dont have increased acuracy against you.

Hmm nobody has mentioned /Stone as a possible PvE set yet?
Admittedly it's pretty squishy compared to most until Granite armour, so I suppose it depends if you can grit your teeth and bear it until lvl 38/39!
Once there, the world is your oyster vs. everything except psionic...just a thought
(P.S. I'm with Cynic on this one, Fire is a great primary, but has no secondary damage mitigation like stun/Knockback so it can be tough levelling up )
I'm doing /stone atk, without a teaming nonstop it can be pretty hard to even hit 38. Low lvl you can go most of the s/l based missions (mook/family), i'm few bars away from the magic 16 for rooted 
Maybe then, together with rage (am ss/stone) it becomes a better pve brute... so far not realy.

I've already got an EM/DA to 40 and am now looking at levelling up

SS has a great attack at 8 plus rage.
FA has sick amounts of damage
or you could just wait for I7 and give Elec/Elec/Elec a spin (along with everyone else )

can you give me some thoughts about brute power combos ?
Right now i would either go with EM/SS as attack power set and INV/EA as defence. Which one would be best for PvE only purposes or what are the advantages/disadvantages?
