Or maybe because it actually makes sense that you block a sword differently than you block a bullet using the shield? And that translates to blocking a fire sword vs blocking a fire bullet.

<QR>
What I'd expect:
-Either a new-ish type power similar to Energize but instead of a heal/+regen, it gets +res vs all/+res vs status.
-A Fiery Embrace type power that boosts dmg for 10sec and end discount for 30.
What I'd think is cool, thematic and want:
-Energy barrier that gives an endurance discount + reverts all damage received into -% Endurance for 15sec. So an attack that you don't deflect that would do 50dmg for 2% of your total HP is reverted to -2% END, an attack that would do 750dmg for 30% of your HP is reverted to -30% END. -
Squinting worriedly at the flashing cake, Jase stayed seated and brought up one of his arms in a ninjutsu hand sign.
Quote:I can help with that, the half dressed ninja replied before the shadow beneath him breathed out before he sank within it like an inky puddle. It happened quickly for him to escape the possibly dangerous flying pastry. The same effect appeared below Balgair and her henchmen. The question of who to transport might have arose but somehow Jase just knew.Originally Posted by Samwise"We are leaving. Now, where is that hospital?"
If they remained in the area of darkness, the dark portal would whisk them through a purplish black place. Although no walls or floors were visible in the dark fog of this place, it felt oddly claustrophobic as if it was really a cramped little room where visions of the place they were and their destination flashed on the wall as a dim desaturated photo still.
If the transportation completed, the group (whomever was pulled through the darkness) would appear just south of the Bell hospital, on the rocky bank close by the water. Moose and Knuckles specifically would have been dropped in the water. Youd think after such a teleportation, Jase would have expended most of his dark power but he seemed unaffected. He was even bristling with a haze of shadow around his figure.
It looks like the others got teleported to the hospital entrance, Jase said as he spied over the ledge that separated the contrasting unprocessed rock of the waters shore with the smooth pavement of the sidewalk and street. The medical center was only a solid sprint away but still in range.

Scoping the figures below, the boy focused his eyes on the two figures in the center of the commotion. Oh! That monster is((was?)) biting that man! the boy exclaimed. Is it going to eat him!? he shouted, his face frozen in childlike horror. -
Keeping his distance, a young man in his last couple of teen years, peered down at the battle from behind one of the huge cables that suspended the bridge. At first he had been perched high up on one of the horizontal cables until the car convoy was delayed, then he quickly moved closer as the others came to the rescue, first running across the cables then sliding down one to get nearer to the bridge.
As he moved closer, the shadows around him began to reach for his body, embracing the milky skin of his slender frame, writhing around his hips and tracing up his torso and finally his entire body. His shape distorted and finally melted away into a 2D figure then folded into the ground and disappeared. He reappeared in the shadow of a downed car a little to the west of the commotion on the bridge, still merged with the darkness to continue to observe the situation.
It was only until after the whole force field and the pendant of the congressman began to react did the shadow dweller reveal himself. An odd pulse of power followed by some sort of magical pressure disrupted the effect of his shadow ninjutsu. His short spikey black hair with yellow highlights bound by a silver banded cloth headband was first visible followed by his face which had dark eye shadow makeup with a yellow assassins mask hiding his face. His shadow veil finally dissipated to reveal the rest of his body.
Oh, well this is embarrassing, he said aloud and grinning under his mask. A visible ninja is like getting caught with your pants down, he said to no one in particular. For a ninja, he seemingly talked to himself a little too much not to mention he didnt seem to dress like one. For one, his fingerless leather bound gloves were bright yellow which would be very visible despite the thick black leather straps that bound them up to his forearm and his boots were similarly yellow with black buckle straps bound to his calves. Although he had a dark tactical belt with various ninja tools and a ninja-to strapped to his back, he was showing a lot of skin for someone who hides in the shadows. His black leather shirt left his midriff exposed and over that a yellow cloth half shirt tank that covered even less. The black leather shorts resembled bike shorts with yellow hot pants over that.
With bullets and bodies flying, Jase tried to weave out of the fray only to stumble upon a half conscious driver and a stealth suit wearing female. As if oblivious to the two, he ducked behind the same cover. Whew! Crazy people, he sighed aloud, shaking his head, This whole city is crazy. Sitting Indian style, Jase finally turned a head toward the woman, Need a hand? he said with a wry smile, This situation might have just hit a crescendo. Who knows whatll go down next. Even though what he said was vague, most likely Balgair felt the same.

Through the darkened hallways, a boy wondered silently. He didnt seem frightened by the blackout but he did seem lost and curious. Before the lights went out, he just wondered around talking with the hospital staff, visiting with patients in their rooms if their doors were open and overall just acting like a curious kid. When asked where his parents were, he lied saying they were watching TV in their room and he was bored. If anyone decided to take him back to his mom, hed inconspicuously disappear on the way.
But after the lights when out, it wasnt hard to move about the dark corners of hallways to investigate the situation. It wasnt long before the 7 year old found his way onto the roof through a stair case behind a pair of double doors. He strolled across the roof, taking note of the demon who sat on the roof edge. The kid seemed more curious then surprised and walked toward the roof edge too. Getting on his hands and knees, the kid peeked his head over and took a long look down. Whatcha waitin for, Mister? he asked without looking over at Caemgen. The boy just kept looking out at the traffic below with wide-eyed curiosity. -
Quote:Lol yeah, they added a whole bunch of normal 'occupational' clothes when they introduced dayjobs. You've got a nice variety of suits with different ties and dress shirts, slacks, officer uniforms, nurses outfits, doctor outfits etc. The only thing else I could think they need to add is overalls.I want a pack of more natural but cool (none of the devs will get this) clothing, FINALLY! No furries... but real comic book stuff. Some heroes and villains don't wear ninja, sci-fi or magic like clothing. There are other things, unfortunately not enough right now. Throw a guitar power in for the bonus power. Makes them dance, long recharge etc. I just want the clothing really.
You want T-shirts and pants or something? We've had those forever and you can put logos/patterns on them too. -
Quote:What Aett_Thorn said. What are you guys talking about? You trying to say I've got a closed mind or something? I've tried all the ATs including Epic ATs both villain and heroside. I have a level 47 ice/storm controller who's fun on teams but not as much fun to solo. I have a level 40 mastermind and a level 50 brute. I had to run the brute to 50 mostly solo because I couldn't stand teams stealing my fury. I quit my Peacebringer at level 35 and my rad/rad defender at level 32. And a level 31 corruptor.
I'm saying I want more AT choices because I've tried them all already and I strongly prefer blasters and scrappers. If you like all the ATs then great. But I don't. I'd lke some new choices.
But also, you seem to want more ATs because "I tried everything and I'm bored". That doesn't seem like a particularly good reason to me, especially because you haven't really tried everything.
Me, particularly, I've played everything but Hero EATs and I can't really play MMs higher than the teens. I'd still want a couple new ATs myself, not because I'm bored with what's available but because my melee Defender is crap. I need an AT that has good melee attacks and buff/debuff sets to pair with it.
Just my opinion tho but I am agreeing with you. Not on the ideas you posted particularly but with new ATs in general. -
And who the hell do you think you are to decide what type of player characters would be good for this game?
-
Quote:What I find particularly amusing is, just because the devs *do* release new ATs, would the OP even play them?I made it this far.
I love Scrappers, not so much Blasters, but I love a lot of other ATs. You not liking ATs isn't the dev's problem.
Only a Blaster is a blaster and only a Scrapper is a scrapper. Any additions will be made because they don't play like anything else, not because they play similarly to something existing. -
The beauty of DB is it's not all about AoE or ST when you can do both. Nothing stopping you from BU>AS>Ablating for a sweep then placate and 1k cuts for added AoE crits.

I really couldn't tell you what makes one or even what I want from an MMO. It's hard to nail properly.
But one prime example I can name is FFXI. I actually really loved that game. With its flaws and all, I truly did like the game. But I hate that damned game and wish it burn in the bowels of hades for eternity! It wasn't particularly the game that made me hate it, but how the players changed the game. The issues with the game weren't that you couldn't find teams or you couldn't solo crap or that everything needed a team to accomplish, it was that the players wanted specially sculpted teams so would wait hours making one and wanted to go after the foes that gave the very most xp per kill even if they were retardedly higher level than you. They farked up *my* teaming.
There are lots of things to do in the game too. Crafting, exploring, mining/loging/etc, questing, so on and so forth. Doing them with friends is even more fun. But when the entire community is burning for cash, it's time to go farm the old NM camp spots for hours on end. It's probably what made me drift apart from my in-game friends enough to finally just stop playing.
The reason I stay here is because the game is just fun, I can make characters look as cool or bizarre as I want and the forums are fun. If I couldn't get on the forums, I might not play the game for much longer after that...until they put in a new power set for me to come back and try.

Quote:What aaaAAare you talking about, Sam?You'd be surprised. I like to play with people's sensitivities and decency, and pretty much whenever I've dropped hints of the concept, the reaction of most people has been the same. That's not just strangers, either. Friends of mine have the same reaction, even if they're a little too polite to say more than "Uh... Ooookayyy..."

((Wow, seems those circle guys are out numbered and out matched >_>; ))

Quote:Personally, I think the intention for how stalkers are to be played since the start of the game has not been changed. Stalkers, by and large, are meant to hit hard and fast. But what you do from there depends on the situation. With the drastic changes made to stalkers since their introduction to the game you still refuse to look at stalkers differently? /boggle
Even at the start of the game, I doubt it was ever meant to be a hit-and-run deal. But it was obvious that you didn't try to engage the enemy directly unless you had no other options. Hold them, sleep them. Anything but sit around and let them beat on you or turn tail and come back 10min later.
As for the OP topic: I think it's more about mixed mitigation rather than just resistance. Having a heal ontop of defense or resistance or some other combo is what will make you feel survivable. Even if you pick up a resistance set, you can build up a little defense so with inspirations/team buffs to make a huge difference. Same with a heal, get it recharged as fast as you can and as cheaply as possible and it won't even matter if you're hit or not because you can get it back. -

Quote:I think he was 'party pooping' the poster that wanted a "Natural, athletic run" for their ninja run and not a ninja-esque run for their ninja run...Well, the pack is built around a NINJA theme, and as the power is called NINJA RUN.
I'm not sure what your complaint is?
"Well sure, the set is called FIRE BLAST and I guess it does a good job of looking FIERY, but still..."
Quote:when it was first in I thought it was the special olympics kid run (arms thrown back behind you pretending you're an airplane stance) from the competition's +Runspeed +Jumpheight ninja run travel power. I was glad when I actually saw someone using it and it wasn't It could've been worse. At least it doesn't look like you're aiming to faceplant yourself as you run.
Luckily, I opened up my old Kat/SR scrapper I haven't played in a year and tried out ninja run for him. He looks awesome running with the katana. Since the weapon his held in the left hand (the one bent at the elbow during the run), the animation changes so both arms are behind you, katana in tow. Tried a "Run at a target with Golden Dragonfly queued" too. *Frikken Sweet!*
Also, the ninja run animations for Shields is quite awesome too. Wonder about claws though. That reminds me...
*Logs on his MA/Shield scrapper* -
Quote:Seriously? What kept him was the fact that the other boosters were pure luxury items, that offered pretty much only aesthetic benefit. Ninja Run is an awesome quality of life improvement at low levels. No longer worry about outlasting your temp power jetpacks, no longer tied to the relatively glacial pace and weak vertical movement of Sprint, the lower levels are far more bearable.
I don't care, if I start to get jealous, I can buy the booster pack. If it becomes the standard for super boosters to offer quality of life improvements at this level over what you get for your monthly fee, though, I might start to care. At that point, it's not just giving cool stuff to booster buyers, it's holding back cool stuff from existing paying customers to try and squeeze mroe money out of them. But this is the first strike in my book, I'm not gonna get all upset about it. If the ratio stays at 1 serious upgrade out of 4 boosters, and regular subscribers keep on getting cool stuff as well, I'll stay happy. And if it doesn't, well, I still have a WoW account I can reactivate with a guild full of folks I'll be happy to play with, and it would be far from the first time I unsubbed from CoX because the devs annoyed me badly.
It's not like their holding your 'mounts' hostage until lvl 14. It's definitely in the realm of possibility to get to lvl 25 with *just* the raptor pack you can obtain from a simple bank mission at lvl 6.
Then you'd have to ***** about having to choose a travel power at 24 or going out of your way to pay a few thousand inf for a 'power choice free' travel power. Meh, grab a tampon and go cry me a river. I got the booster purely for the flip action... -
Quote:Ninja Run + Sprint + Fitness + Quickness. And it's true: you don't need the medicine pool or the fighting pool... or a travel power, if you either never team or else have people willing to wait on your slow *** to get to the mission. For those who don't want to spend more time getting to the mission than running it, there are travel powers.
As I said before, it's a matter of convenience.
Use Oro portal/market porter/SG port for trans-zone movement. -
The aerial flip thing is what takes the gold for me. Great work, animation team!
*Crosses fingers for 2-handed/polearm weapon animations "Soon" for new powerset, specifically BFS and Scythe* -

Probably about as many as will be dropped by lvl 4

Just random ideas:
-Bio organic style with like...tubes or something attached through your arm. So you're shooting, like, bodily created ammo or its powered by some kind of material in the body. Would probably not work with the whole pistol spinny animation if there is one.
-Mystic flintlock with like...a glowie spiny circle rune symbol thingy like this
or this
on the end of the barrel or in front of the cylinder(if it has one which would make the rune be within the gun). Color tintable of course.
-Junkyard pistol. Oversized, impractical looking, built of visually distinctive components like Jurassik's mace. Like a muffler with a butane tank shove into one side and some kind of trigger mechanism made out of...um, something....you get the idea. -
Quote:Yeah, not an original concept (loosely related to Death the Kid) but I had the character(s) thought out before Dual Pistols or GR was announced as scheduled. I think the funnest part will be getting the costume, auras, powers and binds all working rather than actually shooting stuffI can't help you much, I just wanted to say that is a pretty cool concept for a character.
...shooting stuff will be fun too but you get the idea.
That's a possibility. Especially if I do choose /fire, when I switch demons (and costumes), the alternate color for the fire could be blueish white. But then I like /ice's mitigation. -
Quote:True. But considering the primary mitigation you'll use is resists, it's really not that great on a low HP AT. IMO, Elec armor doesn't hold a candle to Regen which can just keep its HP topped off most of the time.Electric armor isn't too bad now that it has a heal. Its heal also boosts your hp regeneration and grants an end discount for 30 seconds (nice for end heavy sets like broadsword). Elec armor has a good number of resists across the board too, to include protection vs recharge and recovery debuffs. The recovery resist is over 90% which is nice, it allows you to pretty much shrug off malta sappers and carnie bosses Mask of Vitiation.
Great to see someone making a MA stalker, they are a rare breed =)
Oh, and Elec armor's tier 9? 75% resist cap? HP/END crash? Yeah, not bad but far from good too. Go regen. -
Quote:I'm confused how having an endurance discount toggle would be useful if you can't use any powers to give the discount to...The chances of one or the other happening is pretty good...but both happening is pretty much nill.
...so I guess I'll take the 'you can use powers while walking' option.
