I would suggest that in PvP zones (including the Arena) everyones skills except Brawl are disabled and everyones health is set to the same amount. That should ensure that it's all properly balanced and give nobody reason to complain
[/ QUOTE ]
And was that your constructive addition to this debate?
I`m not talking about balance actually. I know the game can never be fully balanced.
On a personal level I don`t like Aid self because it doesn`t generally fit the super hero theme. In Pvp I don`t like it because the bearer of it seems to have a massive advantage against someoner who doesnt have it.
If my Tanker manages to bypass all your defences and downs you, that`s great. If you manage to bypass my invulnerability and down me thats more power to you.
But if one of us can endlessly throw up aid self every minute or so... not really a great achievement winning that fight then is there?
Of course, if we both have aid self, then we`re on an equal footing.
But is there any other pool power that gives the player so distinct an advantage in PvP?

You made quite a good job of explaining my point to yourself here (I've highlighted the most relevant bits).
I understand how you feel about Aid Self, and of course your point of view is perfectly valid. However, as others have said, it does come with drawbacks, which are part of that imperfect balance you talk of.
If the drawbacks are enough to offset the advantages or not is not relevant here - indeed, your own view on this doesn't seem to be too clear (or too clearly presented, anyway). On one hand, you say it's overpowered. On the other hand, you won't take it yourself, because you feel it doesn't fit your concept (which is a very real drawback I can relate to very well, being not a PvP oriented player myself). But: the choice not to take it is still yours.
Basically, the gist of what I was trying to say somewhat sarcastically (but probably none too clearly) is "If it weren't Aid Self, it would be something else. There's always something."
Aid Self is part of the PvP metagame, and exactly because it is available to everyone regardless of AT and power choices, I feel that you choosing not to take it and then complaining about it being overpowered is somewhat illogical.
Maybe another, more useful way to put your complaint would be "Aid Self makes PvP boring, because it allows anyone to drag out a fight for way too long." -

People who have it are sometimes harder to defeat - so the answer is "maybe"

And so are people with shields... and with de/buffs... and... wait, let's just nerf them all!

I got both badges already... Okay, killing the Wolves in Sharkhead didn't take long, but I must admit that in hindsight I feel a bit silly about farming a newspaper mission in St. Martial at lvl 30ish for Vampires, given how many Council missions there seem to be at lvl 40+ now...
Oh well, I better get back to opening presents then. There's a badge to get!! -

Still, it was a good showing

That it wasAnd I can see myself in those screenies too (not that Pennys outfit is hard to miss
)
Here's a couple of slightly closer shots of the crowd:

Protest 2
Needless to say, I would also appreciate it if the Flyer was fixed, if it's currently WAI or not. As has been mentioned by a few folks in that crowd, they raised the spawns for some Hero GMs in I8, so why not the Flyer too? -

Not if it never touches the ground...
I'd like to be there, but frankly, the way things are looking right now, it's not too likely. It would mean that I either stay up for another 3 hours - and I'm getting just a tad sleepy, here, having been up since yesterday evening - or go to bed and then wake up in 2½ hour or so... -.-
Besides, I'm fairly confident that it will EVENTUALLY get fixed, at which point I'll hunt it down... don't wanna end up like those people who spent months chasing down the 'Gunner' badge when it was bugged, only to watch people get it in less than an hour after it got fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I hear ya... and from what seems to be known about the Flyer, it looks unlikely that it'll spawn on two consecutive days at the same time, especially if there was no server reset.
But then, I'm at lvl44 and out of contacts, so I'd hang around in GV anyway, either doing newspaper missions or hunting on the streets. I might as well just do the latter for an hour on the off-chance that we'll get lucky -

I'll be there for another attempt at bringing it down.
Be aware that the Arachnos Fliers now appears to be completely immune to -Fly powers, giving us an extremely short window of opportunity before it will activate its force field and fly off.

Sooo, basically: as soon as it sets down to unload the troops, ignore said troops, nuke it and go for it?
Do multiple nukes (of the same kind) stack btw? -
Yeah, was a great job. No faceplants at all during the whole SF, and did the whole thing in less than two hours.
Thanks to all involved -
Yeah, the Flier buggering off like that was somewhat disappointing
Oh well, I'm up for another try tomorrow... got a Nuke and my Shivans, in case they're needed. -
Hmm, I need to get started on my SF badged at some point anyway
If there's enough interest from other folks, I'll join with Penny Pink (lvl 44 Stone/DA Brute). -
Welcome to Defiant - always glad to see new faces. It's a fun game and a very nice community. The same can be said for Union of course, but then, if you're like most people here you'll catch altitis soon enough and will be forced to branch out to "that other server" anyway. 12 char slots aren't nearly enough
-
Yeah, I also completely forgot about it - sorry.
I've got the mission as well, although it would probably be preferable if we did it with someone who has it on their badge-collecting character, to get around the constant char-swapping at the start of the mish. Plus, I usually leave around 9pm UK time. -
Hmm... I can honestly say that I think it wasn't me that drew off Rimsey, as I always trailed behind the main group (which incidentally got me killed when I jumped right into the middle of a dozen Rularuu - my own fault), and by the time I got near the Northern end of the zone, some folks had already been there, so I just turned around again and flew off. The mission failed before I even got back to the main group.
Anyway, I'm sorry it turned out bad for you - but then, I had no idea that a) the escortee was killable (most of the time he isn't), and b) that a failed mission fails the whole story-arc - are you sure that's the case? I never noticed that, and I know I must have failed story-arc missions in the past (like when they had that bug that a knockdown on a fleeing Boss caused insta-fail). -

Unless anybody protests, we'll meet at 6 PM BST, friday, at Naylor's portal if possible.

I'll be there on Penny Pink
Although the above bit confuzzles me a bit, given we're not on Summer Time anymoreSo you mean 6pm UK time then?

...Ok, with a bit of luck and good will maybe for the next Valentine event. Or the coop zone that is due will feature these foes (one can dream, can't one?)
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, that pretty much sums up all my hopes of getting that badge. New special event missions with proper Red Caps or a new zone with them in it... -
Thanks for the help all - it was fun and mayhem all around. Got two shiny new badges, and will make some progress towards the next debt badge too due to a lvl51 Snaptooth Elite Boss
My MM is now all Snaptooth'ed out (no more missions, he's had his allowance of 5), but I have at least one instance of it left on my lvl 16 (2 if I'm lucky) - I'll keep that in reserve for an eventual Cap Buster run one of these days -
Yes, it was fun, and since the mission was higher lvl than me, also a good source of xp
Just a pity I had to leave relatively early, after just 6 or 7 runs through the mish - how far did you others get?
And for all that I enjoyed the evening, frankly I'm starting to wonder if the effort is worth it for the badge. The ideal scenario would of course be to wait until the bug is fixed that spawns most of them as "RedCap" instead of "Red Cap", so that you don't just get 3 or 4 kills per mission (assuming it is a bug of course, and not intended). But then again, since that seems to be the only occurence Villain-side of these mobs, and that in a mission that technically isn't even supported anymore, I doubt a fix will be forthcoming anytime soon...
Oh well, time permitting I'll be there next week to see how many people still turn up -
Badge farming? Count me in
Friday evening works fine for me... -
For starters, I'll be there with my lvl 32 MM (Count Maledictus), but if necessary I can swap to the lvl 16 Scrapper that has the mission as well.
-
As mentioned in the Toothbreaker thread, I can field a lvl 32 and a lvl 16 with the mission, so we could split into two groups - the char changing will be a pain though, but oh well.
What's the general plan? Kill all Red Caps, then aggro the Boss (Sweettooth, wasn't it? It's been a while), wait for him to summon his minions, kill all these, then leave mission without killing the Boss and reset, repeat? -
Yeah, let's just meet in Pocket D on wednesday, I'll be on with Count Maledictus for starters, then we'll see how many folks are there
-
Actually I do, on my MM (Count Maledictus). But since the Brute is my badge collecting char, that would mean that the rest of the team would have to be willing to wait until I've switched chars once we're inside the mission.
If that's okay with folks, I'll gladly run the 2nd group for Toothbreaker.
*edit*: come to think of it, I even have a low-lvl (16 right now) Scrapper with the mission as well... -
Hmm, I guess that answers my question from the Defiant/Hero forum...
If there's still space, I'd like to join in with Penny Pink (points to sig) -
I can bring a lvl 42 Brute along (who conveniently is also my badge-hunting character - might be lvl 43 by tuesday).
Global: @Ailar
Char Name: Penny Pink -
Just wondering, is the actual Snaptooth mission also one where Heroes and Villains can team up, or could you only do that while you were working on getting DJ Zero as a contact?
