  1. I've got dozens of "ahem" **** references, but never had the toon to apply it to...
  2. She's big boneded... ya know?!
  3. Blue Steel - the finish... you can crop it how you like if you want to use it.

I just wanted to do my own version for posterity.

  4. Good fan art starts with a healthy imagination... you probably don't want to do the kind of art that is just a cookie cutter of what you see out there. That kind of art has not passion, and looks static. Doug's advice is very good on several terms, one of the most fitting that healthy drawing habits will help to stimulate your creativity. More so than just copying someone else's style, my suggestion in the post prior to his was basically to build a library of reference... but learning to draw from observation, taking classes, and learning fundamentally basic anatomy cannot be beaten... whether you are just learning to draw, or wish to dabble, or turn semi-pro someday...

    Good luck to ya.

  5. Yeah you don't want to turn out like Doug, he's a complete artistic failure!
  6. Dayum... like I told Zairyo, I thought Tanks looked good from the front...
  7. He's hit and miss in my opinion... while occasionally his books cover up to date topics, they're full of information you can get anywhere, but compiled for convenience. That being the case, any book on Manga will cover what he's done... BUT not on everything he's done. His basic anatomy book is fine, it's very basic, but for superhero anatomy his Cutting Edge Anatomy is a must have in my opinion.

I was very disappointed in his Manwha book, but since there is not much like it out there, I bought it to have. Do yourself a favor and buy 3 books... a basic anatomy, a comic book anatomy, and a manga anatomy. They are all different things, and only the first one will help you understand the other two... but without the other two, you won't be able to convert your knowledge into something simplified and practical.

And again recommending a book to you, would require me to see first what you are capable of, to judge your level of skill.
  8. the parts seem fine... but black and yellow makes you think of bees, not jesters... i would work on your color scheme, and which contest were you going for? best male or humorous?
  9. IF this guy can't do it, I don't know who can: IDNar...
  10. Congrats to Aerones, War Face and Anwyeth on getting there art in this edition!

    I freakin love it!

It turned out amazing. That you so much. I think the wife will love it. The whole peice is doen incredibly and perfect as to being subtle and not cheesy. I couldn't be more pleased. It is better than I had imagined. Thank you so much again. Great job!

Oh, and as a side note, not sure why I didn't notice before, but my wife's toon name is Carrerra like on her blade as opposed to Casandra. But no biggie.

I can't wait to show her!

    Thanks you thank you!

Fixed the name, yeah I wasn't sure about the name on the sword... I was hoping I got it right... glad you like it!

And no it's not a comedy piece.

Edit: oh wait YES, the Panda is meant to be cute.

This was the request of the client:

As for the kind of portrait, I was thinking of something of them together romantically, but not the cheesy-front-of-a-romantic-novel romantic. Something subtle.

  13. okay so you've told us what you do and don't want... but what is the proposed layout you envision in your head. it's very disconcerting to see you turn every suggest artist down, when you're the only person who knows what you "see" in your head.

an idea of the final art piece would help find a capable artist.

in defense of heise, i truly believe an artist of his caliber, as well as genzoman could do anything and everything if they put their mind to it. just because they don't have examples of certain style doesn't mean they haven't done it in the past. their galleries are cohesive of what they're currently working on, not what they are only capable of...

if all you are looking for is a cell animation of your toon, why not just copy one, and photo manip it? again without knowledge of the final piece, who can say what the artist must be capable of, except you.

you've apologized for asking so much... i offer my own apology, i don't believe I have the patience you require. goodluck to you.

  14. nicely done! an great graphic card...
  15. Could you specify the "too detailed" look you're trying to avoid and the simpler look you'd like to emulate?
  16. Could you post an example of what you mean, Manga and Anime both have large spectrums... also not to mention Korean Manhwa, which I think is a superior more evolved style...
  17. I've got to start waking up earlier on Saturdays... this cartoon looks like a blast!
  18. How about Genzoman (sp) of Guildhelper currently?

And if you don't mind me discussing, cause I too am curious as to the style yer going for... is it a cross between 3D render and a full painted animation cell? Off the top of my head I see several things that characterize the art:

    1) no black lines
    2) solid cell shading with an emphasis on soft edges

by the way DA's - Lastcionz is a master at this...

    3) obvious anime features : wide eyes, small nose and mouth, pointed chins, spikey hair...

Am I missing anything? Could you post a screenshot of your toon, and again the description of the layout you proppose. I would love to attempt a test of this style. Like 8baller I too love pushing myself... sometimes I think an artist can get stuck in his own skills, and thus never offer up what a client may want.

You are a particular type of client as well, as the opposite is also true, if the client doesn't know what they want, then they stick with a particular style they have seen. I have been guilty of offering too many things, and most of my clients prefer a distinct look which I guess is my style, I'm not as obvious too it, being a bit too close.

But please allow one to grow...
