  1. I cheated a little, I bought the new Martial Arts booster pack last night, and used the Tera Fire robe. Worth getting in my opinion, but you can just as easily substitute something else. Hope you like it... sorry didn't add auras, cause she was a new character, but there's plenty that would work with this one I think...

  2. It can be done, but man is it tedious... here was one of my first attempts in 2002 on a drawing of mine.

A friend did a tablet coloring of it in the bottom of this thread as well.

Actually my main problem wasn't so much the bad drawing and coloring, it was more of a case of, what the heck am I doing?! I had owned photoshop 5 for a while, but was just getting my way around it. My blending was for total shite, and my wife hadn't informed me yet to uncheck a little bitty hidden box in Illustrator's Brush tool, which made ALL the difference...

I plan to color this with Eddy's technique, but I have to finish some other pieces, in various stages, and the wife is making me draw Xmas stuffs... she's in charge, so this will have to wait. Thanks CR and Pyro for the comments!
  4. I only play this game while waiting for the bacon to finish cooking.

I shut down my avatar and siggy, because I'm not currently open for business, though even that has not deterred people from asking, of which I am very grateful for... alas they will have to join a waiting list that hopefully ends when December comes.

And now back to the subject at hand,

I'm gonna put you in a world of PAIN!

Was studying all of David's work in his thread, and I came up with this 30 minute doodle in Illustrator. I tried coloring it "marker style", but I think I would have to do that with actual markers, and not digital ones... so I went to town on it in Photoshop, ala my Eddy Swan style...

    Reference - Ink - Color.

  8. That was ee-vil Vivace... and actually how I cook my bacon, except not that much and width wise as well, but I see the merits of the short side. I will have to wait till my niece Maggie is around, even I (as a holly jolly flip) cannot put that much bacon away.
  9. I can't stress enough to take those screenshots NOW. Post them on a Photobucket.com account, in a separate folder just for that character. Then place a link in your signature, so the artist doesn't have to ask you for them.

NOT to mention, that in this way, IF your toon is somehow inspirational to an artist, you might even get a freebie. Some of them get bored and want to try someone new, or like me practice with new techniques on unsuspecting newbs.

The screenshots should include: A close up head. A waist to head close up. A complete head to toe. A complete head to toe back view. Left and Right view. IF you have difficult detailed pieces, close ups on THOSE pieces. It also doesn't hurt to mention on a back view cape shot, WHICH cape it is... some collectors make "mood" sheets, various poses of their toon, all collected and pasted into 1 gigantic image, showing a favorite power effect, expression...

IF your toon is overly simple, say wearing nothing but street clothes and a cape. Try to give the artist an idea of HOW you see them being heroic in normal everyday clothing. It also helps to consider a possible actor or actress that reminds you of your toon. As a portrait artist myself, I like getting a semi likeness of that celebrity.

Above all, always be gratious, you are not hiring an indentured servant, artists are weird delicate creatures. We like chocolate and caff-pow, and preferably sleep late.

  10. I think all the girl toons are by guy players and all the female players play men.

I had to look up all the drama... that explains why Ultimates 3 took forever to be out. I thought my comic shop was in the Twilight Zone for a minute there.

    Hey!!

No, yer not, you just THINK you're still here. When in fact, you're over there.

Not to defend the situation, but even if Gil "finished" all the work. It could probably take him a year at best. A year of not getting paid to finish work he promised to do. Artist's, even mismanaging ones can't afford not to get paid. I'm not saying he did the right thing. A full cross the boards refund would be a good solution. It might even save his rep, what ever is left here that is... but who knows if he can afford to do that, is able to do that. Perhaps the money was spent... medical bills for his accident last year or so, or on new gear to support his new website. If it were me, the guilt would be gnawing at my bones. I was always amazed he could command such prices, it made me dream of being able to do so one day. But let's say only 5 commissions at $300 a piece? A possible $1500 worth of work due out there in virtual lala-land.... yoinks, that would put me in a coma!

  18. I wouldn't move them, I would just start over on several servers. That's how THIS version of LJ came to be. Originally she was floundering on Virtue after the 1st year of game play as a kind of supergirl clone. On Liberty, the home of the former Envisionaries (artists and collectors SG) she started over, and basically came to life... including by work of various people on these boards.

    Rebirth is good.

Click the link someone provided above, about 2-3 posts. Then find the button that says "on Demand" on the lower left. It should pull up the recorded sessions. Pick one that's fairly long, and you will see more details naturally. Unfortunately the chat is not recorded with it...

There's a place for ego, and there's a time to set it aside.
I would hope that any prospective client trusts in the artist's abilities and vision. But in the end, the client is the one paying, and with that comes a certain amount of input. I say a certain amount because to me, it depends on the price. The more you pay, the more you have a right to run the show. If I was already overpaid, and didn't need clients, then I could be as arrogant as all get out, but would most likely loose every client with such behavior. I prefer a client who trusts me, that doesn't demand every nook and cranny be perfect, buy a camera if that's what you want, or pay me a lot more to put up with the backseat drawing.

It of course differs with every single piece, and every single client.

Some people you are in perfect sync with, and some clients don't know what they want, or know too much of what they want, and usually in the latter case it's not you. They want the cheaper price for a loyal work horse. And I don't mean to make that sound like a bad thing, a bargain is a bargain. I'm just saying honey goes a lot farther than a megaphone, a microscope and a restraining order...

Hericane, Gray Huntress, and Gaderath are sweet clients. They LOVE art, and the artists who do it for them. In fact client is the wrong word for them, they are more like traditional patrons. If I could I would make little gold plaques for them on my wall.
