Because not everyone has a super fancy computer. I know that may sound crazy, but it's true.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If your planning on playing MMo's that are constantly UPDATED throughout the years than yes, you should get a better comp. Then again I can run CoH, WoW and Age of Conan with a 5 year old rig. So I'm assuming you just don't know how to play with SB or your system is so slow it overheats constantly and you get what many refer to as "slide show" gaming. Either way if you can run TF's and do EVERYTHING else, then SB should have nothing to do with your hardware. Nice try though

I paid for this game and feel like I am getting good value for my money. I also feel the Dev's have done a great job offering a lot of variety in the game. They spend a lot of time and sweat making sure the AT's are balanced and the maps are interesting and populated with challenging foes. I enjoy playing the game. Why should I invest my time doing tedious work that takes a long time, for which I will not be paid, only to create something that the Dev's probably already have done or was very similar? I don't object to this being offered, I just don't get the draw. To me it seems an awful lot like work. Or...... I am completely off-base, and missing the point (not an unusual event) and the point of architect is............

When AE came out it wasn't all that famous, nor was it "anticipated". Many wanted to create their own missions, but the smart people knew it was going to get nerfed somehow. Que the PLing "exploits" and easy badge collecting, that turned out. When people just knew of it as a player created event, it didnt get much shine. Sure people still posted, but it got flooded when people found ways to hit lvl 1-50 in days, even hours.

Without the huge exp bonus and or "exploits", AE settled down. My point being, the "draw" was putting the content in the players hands. The nerfs we're probably the dumbest thing they could have done if they wanted huge numbers, but the dychotomy is resonating and or is and shall always be.

Every attack will be moderate damage.

I can't wait to see the expressions on your faces.

It'll be better then watching 2girls1cup reaction videos on youtube where people video tape themselves freaking out over it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

QFT, I couldnt have said/posted it better myself. As a guy who made an AR/Dev to 50 I wasn't to happy hearing about "pistols". Even more facepalm action when I saw the Rogue Video. Epic gun c.ock FTL
  4. Simply put, they are late bloomers with unique abilities in the early stages. Warshades with their double mires and holds become great dps later on. And Peacebringers with their high smashing power become heavy hitters out the gate. Both come with forms that are easy to grasp and easier to get lost in. But yes, you will feel like a squishie early on. Once you get dwarf it becomes something hard to let go. I see where your coming from though, I had my gripes with them when I first created one, then I got passed the 20's and everything synergized.
  5. Ah the world of passive agressive...safe enough to live in but never acknowledged, must be fun...

If you feel insulted, thats YOUR prerogative. But I posted my "feelings" about the subject several posts ago. I'm just now addressing you. I'm sorry you failed to see the clarity in my posts..well not really. Regardless if your looking for discussion, by all means keep posting, Psuedo intellectual topics as such are only for the destitute or manically pretentious. I've stated my points, you've stated yours = Discussion.
  6. Fire/Elec and Ice/Fire have been my favs mostly due to the fact that I wanted build with little to no knockback. Even thought I'm pretty much a team blaster, I have soloed just fine with the builds. Also I liked the -End drain from the sets, kept my down time very low. Take it from a guy who made an AR/Dev, I know about down time....
  7. The word pertinacious, came to mind when I read your post. Deeming somone ignorant because they don't want to describe what the entire AT does in a request is in of itself shortsighted. On that note, everything in MMO's is shorthand. From the "Lols to the AFK's. All together your taking it too personal when a term bothers you. Honestly even debating about it, is opuscule.

Is it a bit pretentious? yes, it is after all a game.

    [ QUOTE ]
It's two wildly different systems, and because of people trying to apply one big generic system to MMOs in general without consideration of the system put in place by the designers (in effect trying to pigeonhole and stereotype anyone that's ever played an MMO ever, much like people used to do to people that played tabletop games back in the 70's and 80's), it leads to a plethora of misconceptions and hurt feelings that brings us to the problem we have today of nobody being able to decide on what 'Healer' means, and whether it's a good or bad thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its a little late in that sense, Tanks are called tanks in nearly almost every MMO I've ever played. Priests, Shaman, Paladins, etc have been called healers. And lastly, Scouts, assassins, Ninjas, Lancers, etc have been called Rogues or thieves. Many of the MMO populous have used these terms to describe the similarities the classes/AT's have. As for the phrases hurting feelings...again you need to rethink what you prioritize as a person. I seriously doubt the "goings on" and or "phrases" in a game, can effect a person's feelings, unless of course said person had an incipient mind state.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
    You complketely miss the point.

We dont hate the term healer for being the descriptor. We hate it because it generally is used by a certain type of person who promotes a stereotype.

back a couple years ago, if you were not an empath, you NEVER found a team unless you grouped with friends.

Everyone was so caught up in "healers" that they completely ignored you if you didnt fall within that tableau.

After a long while of this, people finally started inviting other types of defenders, and frankly, you try living through multiple years of being ignored (and many still are. ask a trick arrow or cold defender how often they get teams), you start to get a little angry about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I get the point, its just so trivial that even to complain about is xeric. My first Villain was a Dark/Ice Corr, my first defender was a dark/dark/. So I know the life of having either one heal or just a buff/debuff combo. I still got on teams. A simple "dont kill my anchor" helped with teams who where new to aoe debuffs. If not I explained what they did. I've found teams with non emp AT's just fine. I've played on Protector, Guardian, Triumph, and Pinnacle. I've never had a problem getting teams with a Defender that wasn't an emp "a couple of years ago".

I don't know what your doing but if I cant find a team, I make one. And I have much success. "Never" finding a team is how YOU feel and or YOUR experience. I on the other hand have had no problems.

As for getting angry over not getting a team because of your AT...make one. People are always looking for teams, at all levels. If you've been playing for a "couple of years" you should know this very fact.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
With that out of the way, please. Do get any further negativity out of your system, and try to debate like a thoughtful, mature person. I can't guarantee I'll do the same, but I certainly find pretend fun enough to give it a shot if you will. :3

    [/ QUOTE ]

I get it, you come on the boards and debate, thats fine, but I use some retrospect, especially when it comes to discussing something so trivial. If you took it too personally then, hey thats how you feel. On the topic on maturity, well you really arent winning an award for "most mature poster" on an MMO board, it just aint gonna happen. What you can look forward to is atleast, some decent posts. In the end where all here to discuss semantics, honestly I missed the days people actually PLAYED the game.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
You certainly seem to care. A lot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I usually post when something peaks my interest, plus I'm usually the voice of rational on certain boards since I don't take MMO's as serious as others. Hopefully someone sees the post and realizes how silly people are. In the end you can hate it or love it, but the world goes on. I'm not here to convert anyone just to make people think, even if it is for five seconds.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Elitism can work in both ways, you know.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Being a veteran who doesnt wince at a phrase is far from elitist. I play the game for fun, I leave my ego at the log in screen, I dont care if I'm considered or called a "healer" on my defender since its pure semantics and has nothing to do with me personally. If you get kicked off a team because somone wanted you to heal, then hey tough. But honestly how much does this happen? and in the end you'll get another team. And so the world keeps going. See in the end , after you sign off and head to the real world, the giant ego you have on the boards about a phrase, is diluted by real life problems and or agendas.

Thats what people are doing here, arguing over semantics. Because you just cant accept a phrase as "healer". I suppose your one of those people who call waiters "servers" or Stewardesses "Flight attendants". Whether you do or you dont, its all semantics, if you let some thing like that bother you, then you seriously need some down time. Rethink your life, because you failed somewhere along the road.
  12. Alot of it is due to the elitist players who NEED to say that there are no healers. Play any other MMO, pick one, it doesn't matter, no one will every say they arent a "healer". Only in CoX have I seen this disussion. People forget what a phrase is and turn it into a debate that really should be ignored. Seasoned MMO players will know not to care about such semantics. A healer is a healer. When I first installed CoH, and saw the Defender class pic, I knew right then, Defenders would be the "healers" in CoH. I then logged on and made a controller and knew these where the "off healers" i.e. Druid,Shaman, Paladin.

We all know what each class is when we see it. If you've been playing MMO's long enough you know what they are and what they look like. Now CoH has AT's that are strictly "buffers/debuffer's something I enjoy, but people act like its a travesty if you ask for a healer.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
'The problem is some people are so obsessed with disproving the whole "we need a healer or we'll die" theory, that they have actually gone one step further and tried to prove that healers are not just not needed, but are indeed useless.'

    [/ QUOTE ]

QFT, really nothing more to say/post about it, you hit the nail right on the head with a sledge.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Defenders are not the "Priest, Shaman, Medic, etc" of City of Heroes. Get over it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you serious?, So when you see an emp AT or a Thermal, you dont see the similarities in both priest and Shaman like abilities?. Heal, team bufff, aoe heal, revive, etc. Now your just delusional or in denial. I'm guessing you never played a Shaman in not just WoW but in many other MMO's, even in D&D the Shaman healed...Do some research before you go posting just to post.

Where are these ego's coming from? no one cared what defenders where called 4 yrs ago, I smell some elitist players hitting CoH, but I digress, you dont like being called a healer then sour grapes for you friend, if your bothered by an IN GAME phrase then there really is no helping you. My best advice?...go out breath some fresh air, because if a phrase in an MMO bothers you that much I say you failed at life, life has way harder decisions than arguing over a phrase in a video game.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    Pick one...

    [/ QUOTE ]

How about all of the above?. See as I posted before, people asking for a "healer" want at THE VERY LEAST one heal, basically any means to mitigate lost life points, no one said you had to stop buffing/debuffing, just cause you have one heal.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
As a "veteran" (I assume that's what you meant to say,) you should know by know by now how Defenders and Controllers bristle at the term "healer." Many of us do not like to be defined by a single ability. If you wish to limit yourself by requesting "h3al0rz" that's you prerogative.

When the response to your "We need a healer." tell is "Sorry, not a healer." You'll know why. I tend to avoid teams that 'need a healer' like the plague.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have a lvl 50 kins toller, a lvl 30 kins defender, a lvl 37 Emp , and a lvl 24 Dark def. I never once got offended at someone calling me a healer. My ego is tamed when it comes to in game phrases that have been used for years now. Like I posted before, Many veterans (I included) know that many of the Def AT's come with a heal and a debuff/buff. And even then people are using the term "heal", their not deeming the populous of defenders healers.

Question, why does it bother you so much?, are you in need of that much pride in a VIDEOGAME that you need to correct someone if they ask for a "healer"?. Get over it, Defenders are the; Priest, Shaman, Medic, etc of City of Heroes. Don't act like this is your first MMO, and if it is, go Wiki MMO's, the general term "healer" is and has been used for years now.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Is it really worth excluding a whopping 3 sets, to use your pet stereotypical term?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its an MMO, the term go "Tank" or go "scrap" are both stereotypical, its not a means to offend, but used in short. Helps people just get to the work need be done. If I ask for a "healer", I'm asking for someone with at the very least, one heal. If you've been playing the game for more than a month, than you would know that most if not all "healers" come with debuffs/buffs. But as I posted before, its all a matter of wanting heals. I know an emp will come with RA's, Fort and CM, I know a Kins will come with FC, SB, and Transf, you see where I'm going with this?. As a vereran I know what I mean when I ask for a "healer" on the team.

If you don't like being called a healer, then may I advise some serious time with a psychologist, someone is in need of a hug or a cookie. You could also of course try to define what a healer is. You could look at it as; a healer is someone who makes sure his/her team is kept "healthy", making sure everyone is safe and patched up accordingly. Either way your nitpicking something that has been encrusted into the annals of MMO's.
  18. Or a player requesting a "healer", may play games like; FF series, WoW, Diablo, Lineage, Guild Wars, etc. We all know what people mean when they say their looking for a healer. Somone who mitigates lost life points. You can call the class what you wish, but veteran players know a healer AT when they see one. 02 boost is a great heal with a decent CD(4 secs). An average player knows that defenders buff/debuff and you guessed it heal. So, including Storm, thats 5 sets that come with a heal. Leaving 4 other sets that debuff/buff. One would assume when someone asks for a "healer" they mean the 5 I mentioned (Emp, DarkM,Kins,Storm,Rad).

If you find it insulting, than sour grapes for you, the world keeps going on. If you find it shortsighted, then you have a huge problem having something to do with either your pride or your ego. And if you think its "inflexible"....oh wait your playing an MMO with rules...

Lastly keep in mind that the person requesting for a healer is doing just that, asking for what some might consider a healer, he isn't labeling the entire defender populous Healers. "Sometimes the ego of a few need to be out weighed by the needs of many."
  19. Lacrymosa

    Dear Devs,

Pretty much why other MMO's get a higher population. They actually listen to their players and fix the problem. Admiting that you Effed up like Jack Emmert did, is a sure sign that your willing to try and fix the problem. But then again pride plays a major issue in most cases. Everyone knows the PVP sucks, they just dont waste their time playing in the Zones for badges. 7th, theres a sandwhich in your future, you just havent made it yet.
  20. Many in the game would agree, "BadgeW.hore" would be a great way to poke fun. I would assume they would name it "bagdehorse" considerinf the obvious offense with the first.
  21. I've been trying to say that Awesome, but it seems the boards have nothing but posts like; "I don't NEED SB", "I wish it were berfed", "I only need it during an AV fight", etc. Of course I've played on plenty of servers(Virtue included) and never heard a player tell me "no Sb please". Those who know what it does say yay, those who don't follow the naysayers. In the end, it never makes sense when a player declines a famous buff.

I've played three tanks and 2 scrappers to 50. I've always enjoyed Kins for what it brought to the table. Saying its not needed is obvious, but saying its not useful like many have, is just dumb. A buff is just that, a better way of getting the job done. And as for the people saying its "too fast". You seriously fail at this game when a power slower than SS is "uncontrollable" in your hands. If you think SS is too fast you need either A. a better computer, or B. sometime to get to know HOW to play the game.
  22. I've had a lvl 45 emp a lvl 36 corr (Pain) and a lvl 50 troller. All buffs and heals included. I never had a problem rebuffing teams when needed. The "buff icon area" is quite helpful to me, as Kin powers are easily distinguishable from the rest. I don't know how buffing is hard when you even get the "blink" warning when they are about to wear off.

Now don't get me wrong, I've played WoW and undertsand the easy and very laid back feeling of 30 minute to hour buffs. But its one buff in this case (SB), two if you took ID. If your a defender I have no idea what your doing as I have healed and buffed accordingly. Honestly I feel its a matter of players that listen and players who know when to call the team in for buffs. Any good PuG will halt action for buffs. The word "gather" has become synonymous with teaming. Again its all player based. If the kins isn't really willing then thats exactly what you can expect...a lazy kins.

As far as herostats has to do with the matter, I've been playing since I3. Its comfortable, and informative, but its neither clutch or necessary. Though it is helpful for the new players coming in , I will say that I hope more add on's like it come out.
  23. I agree Winter, I have played two tanks to 50 (one being a rock tank), as well as a Scrapper and a troller. So its safe to say I love Kins and every move in the set (repel excluded). I never understood the naysayers posting things like "Keep sb to yourself", "No SB plz" etc. Due to excuses like "I like being able to see where I'm going". Ive had Super speed (which is faster than SB) on five characters and have run into zero problems controlling where I'm going. My best advice is to kick the lazy kins. More specifically if he/she's not buffing the team. But in general I have ran a kin defender to 30 and a /kins troller and have had no problems buffing teams.

You also have to keep in mind that most people suck at buffing teams. Which is pretty sad considering the extreme ease there is in clicking a button. Regardless someone will find a way to play any easy class with awful or little skill. A good kins is only asked for SB once, I have had people tell me I'm the best kins they've seen all because no buffs dropped (Fulcrum, ID, Siphon power). Its all about the player.

Next time just kick the player or warn him to do so or else hes kicked. I agree though the whole MA deal, has made many lazy (easy levels and all).
  24. Funny the only mistake the devs notice fast enough to know they need to fix...Mind you some very cool creations can be made...I always find it hilarious how whenever its something cool, they claim it as "a bug".
  25. Everyone always likes to debate, but no one ever really provides evidence.
