  1. I've got a lvl 27 Thugs/TA (which for some reason seems like an odd pairing to me, but has worked very well so far).

My only gripe with Thugs so far is the Arsonist's tendency to get himself killed, although his damage is very nice. Plus the sound of uzis and pistols firing off like crazy is a beautiful sound indeed.

I'm also really liking TA, and I hear a few powers have really nice synergy with Thugs, most notably the ability of your Arsonist to ignite your Oil Slick Arrow. The only bad part is unlike some other sets TA doesn't have a direct means to heal your pets, and I tend to use up a lot of respites sometimes.

Can't wait to get this guy higher level though. I'm able to solo +0/x4 relatively well thus far. Probably not a big deal but the mission I did was against Tsoo so it felt good to me >_<

I love SSK as well. What I don't love is debating with people who don't understand how it works. I've had this happen a few times since I-16. Usually they'll ask about it and I'll lay down the 411 and they promptly follow up with a "that sounds stupid".

  7. I think the only thing that wasn't intended with MA was the scale at which it was being utilized, not the farming itself. Nethergoat is right, the activity of farming is practically identical no matter where you go to do it. I think the real matter that wasn't "intended" with MA was for people to hop out of the tutorial and start looking for farms.

That's the main difference IMO between MA farms and other farms like in PI, and that is the scale to which it is available to the players. MA is available to anyone of every level right from the get go, PI isn't, and the sewers are only really considered efficient until about lvls 8-10.

  9. I've never liked any kind of rep system on a forum. If you've ever posted on any of the allakhazam forums you'll know why. They've got something they call "karma" which is pretty much the same as rep, except on that forum if you get rated down enough your posts get labeled as "sub-default" and the default filter settings automatically hide your posts from everyone.

  11. I agree that you should play the game in whatever manner brings you the most enjoyment (unless it's against the rules of course ).

However, I will say that in my personal opinion I've always found PL'ing to be a bit like scarfing down a delicious meal. It's good, but it's over too quickly, and when you're done you're usually left unsatisfied and wanting more. Wouldn't you rather savor every bite and get full enjoyment out of it?

    Again, that's just my opinion
  12. I came to the forums and it said my name was Aluminum_Dave.

    Weird...
  13. Personally I tend to not care what other people think of me or what I post. I post my own feelings and opinions on a given topic, nothing more. I tend not to sugar-coat things and sometimes that gets me into trouble, and if something's on my mind I have to let it out. Sometimes that can make a situation a bit confrontational. Is it the most mature attitude to have? No, but it's just how I'm built and while I have done things to try suppress it I think I'll just always be this way to some extent.

I think some people tend to turn things into a personal vendetta. You mentioned you got some negative rep on the Suggestion forum? I've been a part of many different forums, MMO or otherwise, and in most suggestion type forums when someone posts something most of the time they seem to think they've come up with a truly wonderful, innovative idea, and expect nothing but positive feedback. When they see that some people don't agree with their ideas they become outraged and try to fight back and defend it. I'd wager that might have had something to do with it.

I wouldn't get upset about it though. I've gotten a few -rep with some funky comments myself that made me go "uhh..what?". I tried to make a joke in one thread and someone down rep'd me and labeled me "obtuse", but I just shrugged it off because what do I care about what some random person I don't even know on the internet thinks of me? (or that they can't seem to get a joke, though as my friends say: "sarcasm doesn't exist on the internet")

All in all I wouldn't let it get you down...that's kind of an ironic thing to say given the circumstances of this thread huh?

I've actually made a good bit of inf this way, and I wasn't really looking to save my merits for anything before so it didn't seem like a big deal. I've got about 50 mil now.

I'll probably look at slotting the sets CMA mentioned. GotA doesn't seem as expensive as I thought it would be, and I'll look at getting the Performance Shifter proc as well.
  15. Well I was just in a team that presented another solution...SPEED BOOST!!! Too bad I don't always team with a kin xD

I'll probably look to go ahead and save up for the +end proc with merits. If I hadn't been spending all my merits on random recipes to sell I'd probably have enough already but I wanted to make some inf.

I do slightly better than that at around levels 40-45 but you should be able to do nearly as well using (cheaper) lvl 35 IOs.

I'm a huge fan of frankenslotting your main attacks. Set bonuses are nice but they usually impose some compromises in enhancement values. I put them in minor attacks, fast-recharging attacks, defense powers and occasionally "mule" powers (powers I took and slotted solely for the set bonus and not for real use) so I can frankenslot my main attacks, using them as often as possible for maximum damage and tremendous endurance discount with good-to-excellent accuracy. (I slight accuracy in the frankenslotting if I have to give up something, because I can get global accuracy bonuses from sets to make up for it, but there is no global endurance reduction available in set bonuses, only what's slotted in the power itself.)
The sets I'm going to slot at 37 give me at least 40%+ end reduction in every attack, and a bit more end reduction in my toggles. I don't like frankenslotting on my tanker though because I wanna grab some of the defensive set bonuses to increase my durability.
  17. So my Shield/Stone tanker is sitting at 33. I just picked up tough (30) and weave (32), and while my tanker is quite beefy I'm now running 5 toggles (6 if I forget to turn sprint off), and my end bar feels just like it did before I had stamina. I have an end reduction in all of my toggles and in a few of my attacks as well.

The only thing left in my build that increases my recovery are set bonuses here and there, the Miracle unique, and a Performance Shifter +end proc in Stamina. None of this I have right now. I could maybe afford the Performance Shifter +end but that would eat up over half of my total influence I think...

Maybe I should just tough it out until 37 when I look into sets that help alleviate the endurance cost of some of my powers? Of course, I've kinda been taking a break on my tanker because of this issue so 37 might not come as soon as you think

Not to mention the ability to now set spawn sizes regardless of actual team size, I agree with you.

If I can get at least around 4-6 people but I have trouble filling it out with more than that (usually I don't though) then I just go ahead and roll with it, and with a decent enough team you can usually take out spawn sizes fit for an 8-man team with fewer people.

You know why you can't find a team? I'mma tell you why you can't find a team, and guess what? It doesn't have anything to do with server population.

You can't find a team because you just don't know how to find teams. I'd bet nearly all my influence that you probably just go to a level appropriate zone and start yelling in broadcast. Newsflash: That doesn't usually work well anymore unless you're playing at the peak of the peak hours.

I can get on and piece my own team together in about 5-10 minutes, or find one in a global channel in about the same amount of time or less as well. Your problem is you expect the teams to go to you instead of going out and finding them yourself.

I usually make it to lvl 28 or 29, because that tier 7 secondary power intrigues me enough to make it and try it with a few slots. After that, once again, gameplay is now not enough to make me keep playing.

I'll come back to the character when I get an interest in the tier 9 of the primary or if I have a desire to see the 30-35 content or if I have further development of character.

    Late thirties
Sometimes, it feels pretty obvious the game was designed to stop at level 40. My characters are now fully developed and all basic gameplay functions and behaviors exist. I frequently get stuck 36 or 37, most level 38 powers do not intrigue me enough to push that far. Usually, if I make it to 39, I end up making it into my early 40s. I rarely have characters sitting between 38 and 41, but have a plethora of 36-37 and 43-44 characters.
That's pretty much how it is for me at these levels. I'm coming towards the end of picking my "main" powers, my attack chains are full. At first I'm really excited about my new powers but eventually I just feel like I'm going through the motions.

I think one big factor that's effected my tanker is the fact that I've just picked up tough and weave in addition to 3 other toggles in my primary, and now my end bar feels like it did before I got stamina, and running any toon pre-stamina usually isn't a fun time.

Late-game CoH is about incremental improvements. Each individual improvement isn't that impressive, so it's not very compelling to look forward to dings and new slots or power selections as they come. However, there's a lot of those little increments between, say, 30 and 50. You end up with a lot of slots, and depending on AT, you can end up with a few gems in your epic pools. (Armor toggles on squshies are a big deal to me.)

I plan for the long haul. I get a feel for what ordinary characters can do, and then try to do more. That means I start trying to add up all those little increments, the bonuses from IOs, the benefits from accolades, all to get to the point that where eventually I've got perks like 30% more HP than normal, all my powers use 3/8ths their base endurance, I can fight through a big spawn without running out of endurance, or I have more defenses than normal. Or all the above.

My sense of what's "super" isn't founded in the fiction of the game. All of our characters can run around and mostly shrug off bullets and explosions. No, what makes me feel super is when I feel like my characters are above expectations in the context of the game and its challenges. I get a sense of thrill in feeling like my characters can kick butt and take names. "I built that!"

Achieving that level of butt-kicking doesn't come easily in the mid-level game, though it can be done with the right builds. It's a lot easier in many ways to achieve it with a high-level character, who has many more slots and access to all their utility powers.

So since it's a (more) natural achievement for a high-level character, and its something I really enjoy, I am motivated to reach 50, and indeed, to play my 50s extensively.
I use to plan builds in mid's either just with SOs/generic IOs or modest sets that I took more to slave a slot here or there instead of for the bonuses. Now though I've been looking more towards higher end builds. I.e. I went ahead and threw together a build for the dominator I just made that focuses on getting perma-dom.

Hopefully the incentive to eventually obtain these higher end builds will help,
  21. So, I've managed to get quite a few toons into the 30's. I even managed to get up to 45 on one way back when, but I just can't seem to summon the willpower to push it all the way. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why. I thought I just simply got bored or found something else that caught my interested, and while that is part of the truth I think I've found out the missing piece to this puzzle...

Once you've gotten to 32+ you're pretty much "over the hill" when it comes to your powers. You've gotten the last power of your primary and probably have at least one or two more you're looking to grab from your secondary, so by 35-38 you're done with your primary/secondary powers. I think my problem is once I reach this stage there's nothing else I'm really looking forward to in the last 10 or so levels. Sure, I get my ancillary powers but they only seem to help round out my character and not really give it that "umph" that those last couple of powers in the primary/secondary sets give you. That's not to say that they're suppose to or that I wish they did, my only point is after 35-38 or so there's nothing really left that makes me go "oooh shiny, I can't wait for that".

Does anyone else share this problem or a similar one, or have any tips on how to overcome it? The toon I got to 45 I lvled with my brother and some other friends so that gave me the incentive to make it that far, but when I'm on my own I just tend to get burnt out by the time I get to the 30s.

Eh, whatever. It's really only a problem when PvP is a large factor like it is in other MMOs, but it's not so much in CoX (or at least it doesn't seem to be to me).

However, FOTM is still not a playstyle I agree with or encourage...
  23. More and more I've just been making my own teams lately. It seems like when I make my own teams there's a higher probablity of the team being really good

Haven't really gotten into the public channels much. With broadcast now being a pretty horrible medium nowadays for grouping I've mostly been sending individual tells to people across all zones and that works well for the most part. I do agree about including the player's name in your whisper. Using a bind it's as easy as $target

I did join a couple public channels on Freedom but I'm kind of apprehensive to play on that server for a little while due to me making a complete idiot of myself (only I would manage to do something like that in one night...). I was trying to get in on this conversation in one channel but was sending all my messages to the other. This went on for about 10 minutes before I realized what I was doing (was running a TF at the time so wasn't really paying attention to chat). Everyone in the one channel was like "what's this guy talking about?". I was so embarrassed I don't even wanna get back on Freedom for a while xD

I'm actually wondering, how do you guys set up your chat if you're in multiple global channels? Do you put them on separate chat tabs so you can keep them separated, or do you keep them all on the same tab so you don't miss anything? Actually a smarter move might be to make each channel have separate chat colors so I can tell them apart. Can't believe I didn't think of that before my "I'm an idiot" episode >_<
  24. I 100% agree with ClawsandEffect.

And I gotta say I never thought I'd see anyone looking for a FOTM class actually get help. In every other MMO I've played in my 6 years of playing MMOs people like the OP were pretty much always either ignored or told off because the FOTM playstyle has always been looked down upon for the same reasons ClawsandEffect and myself have stated earlier.

It's a playstyle for those who want the easy way out, and that's why it's always been looked down on.

Actually the reason I've always disagreed with this playstyle is because these types of players care nothing for if the class/AT even interests them, it's all about decimating everything in their path. I guess that's one way to play the game but I'd much rather decimate as much in my path as I could while playing something that actually interests me either concept wise or playstyle wise, and not just because it's considered the current "best" by the playerbase.

If the current "overpowered" class was a pet class, but the OP hated pet classes, he'd still grit his teeth and play it just because it's "overpowered". That's what I disagree with.
