My idea for making CoX better: permaban for everyone who whines about AE.

The problems you've described are identical to the problems I used to have... 4 years ago.

This has been happening since I joined the game in I2 from people that have never been power leveled they do not understand game mechanics powers etc it is a large % of the population just shake your head and move on

And this.
I know people IRL who have multiple toons that hit 50 years ago and leveled them without any PLing. They are a misery to play with because they refuse to learn how to play - basically if they're on your team you have to accept that they will die multiple times, and so will you if you're anywhere near them. Max level could be set in the thousands and there would still be endgame players who didn't understand exemplaring, merits, and TFs in general. The worst part about AE isn't the farming or the PLing, it's all the whining and misplaced blame that's sprung up around it. "This player sucks, they musta been PLed!" No, actually - lots of players just suck. -
I can't seem to find a guide on IO sets for SS/Fire, so could I get some help with my build? I do a lot of fire AE missions so I'd like to keep Temperature Protection to cap my fire resist, and past that I'm just trying to keep my recovery, recharge, and regen high. I like the build so far but I'd like to hear some expert opinions.

Quick question for those of you suggesting SS/Fire - does that require the Fences/Burn combo? I have a 50 SS/Fire I shelved because I realized I hate doing that... not a big fan of the Rage crash either, but he wasn't IOed out so it tended to hit me pretty hard. I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks of HelinCarnate's SS/WP build - looks like more fun to me, but how do they compare damage wise?
-
Thanks to everyone who has posted so far - you've given me a ton of useful input!
I'm leaning toward ice now, because the I like the emergency healing abilities and I think I might make myself a shield brute or scrapper instead (to take better advantage of the extra damage). This is the build I've made up in Mids so far - any suggestions?

I'm interested in playing a solid team tank, but I'm sick of my stone/stone behemoth. Before I roll Shield/WM like everyone else, is ice/ice worth trying? I like the look of the ice sets, and it would be nice to stand out a bit. But the end cost and lack of psi protection are troubling... This will be an alt, so I won't be slotting IO sets; I'm looking for a competent pickup group tank, not a tricked-out TF superstar. Also, can I leave Chilling Embrace on while herding?
One last question: any recent ice/ice guides out there? Tundara's looks great but it's over two years old. -
Some of us rate something one star because it's bad. It's not up to you to decide whether you think it was 'justified' - ratings are subjective, which means there is no right or wrong way to rate a story arc. If I think it sucks, I'm allowed to express that opinion.
I question the existence of one star "griefing." I've heard this argument before - that there are cadres of malcontents who patrol the internet deliberating downranking everything out of sadism - and it sounds ridiculous. And some of these countermeasures you're suggesting are insane... It's like you want to start a witch hunt over this stuff.
"Are you now or have you ever been a one-voter?"
Better yet, let's force a costume change so all the one-voters have a star on their sleeves. Then we transfer all their characters to a laggy, buggy server so we don't ever have to see them. And we'll roll it back to that sweet spot in between ED and the IO system. No Patrol XP, takes longer to level, serves 'em right for disliking my story arc! And then, a few months later, we start running the delete script...
Don't submit something to a rating system if you can't handle getting a low rating. -

-A greater focus on "zones" (assuming there still are zones and not a seamless world) and less on instanced missions. A lot of work in CoX went to to crafting the zones. But for the most part, all they act as are spaces in between mission doors. There should be giant monsters roaming the world at all times. Super villains showing up on the streets should be a semi-regular thing. Actually going out into the world...to look for crimes to halt. Patrolling. Streetsweeping. These are all but dead sometimes in CoX. Events like the Rikti invasions bring people out of the wood work, but that's not enough. People had an amazing time in the 5th anniv events with the AVs and giant monsters all over the place. Getting people out of instanced missions, away from farming/grinding in small team cliques, and outside in the world interacting with other players and making connections should be encouraged.
[/ QUOTE ]
This. Many people have suggested this in the past - myself included - and it would really go a long way to eliminate the tedium of regular mission arcs.
[ QUOTE ]
-Environmental interaction. I want to punch guys though billboards. I want to throw cars. I want a big megascreen in Blydes Square that gets exploded three or four times a day and each time, assuming there's a player around to see, little AI workmen and robots come to fix it.
Leveling buildings or smashing through them? No. I don't expect that. Uprooted power poles? Wielding steel girders? Weak spots in some walls? Yes.
[/ QUOTE ]
One of the best things about Mayhem Missions is getting to blow stuff up. Making it a natural byproduct of combat - instead of an artificial "target this dumpster and hit 3" - would be awesome. Also nice: fixing the AI so those villains I bust out of jail don't stand transfixed by the sight of parking meters...
[ QUOTE ]
-Improved mission design and improved AI. When I'm dispatched to clear a warehouse of super thugs, I don't want to walk into the front door of an instanced mission. Put a mission enterance marker outside on the street and THAT takes me to the instance of that block. Then I want to crash in through the skylight, or kick in the front door. And when I'm inside, I want enemies coming to investigate what the noise is. I don't want to see groups of enemies standing in place, punching their fists, waiting for me to approach them one at a time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes!
The graphics in CoX as they are right now are pretty good - they scale relatively well based on what the computer can handle, and at the top end things look pretty good for an MMO. Instead of trying to make a newer, shinier version of the game, I'd rather see them a) fix the memory issues and b) fix the mechanics of the existing game. It's not the graphics - it's the gameplay! -
FileFront's just a site for gaming content, and users can upload gaming videos like yours for hosting and video streaming. I've been playing WoW for the past two years and that community uses it a lot, but I was poking around today and I noticed there's like zero CoX content up there, not sure why. Just something that popped into my head, don't mind me.
Back to the comments about how awesome your video is!
-
This is really cool! You should upload it to FileFront, they need some game videos that aren't WoW PVP brag-fests...

Funny, this has always been my feeling towards Dark Armor...
Guess this is another set to play with the sound off. -

I want them to prove how evil they are... "Eat this kitten!"

I knew the devs were bad, but eating kittens is just plain wrong, and no one should do it... ever!
