I don't doubt that; YMMV, and all that.

The very little bif of asking around indicates that the vast majority of people don't care, and those that do care would like the nondescriptive choice when there is no real choice. I'm not in that camp myself, but I get it.

I was just clarifying in case anyone was mistaking (what I beleive to be) Sam's position.
  2. If I might be allowed to presume to translate for Sam, all he wants is:

(You agree to do the mission)

    OR

    1: I suppose so.
    2: Let's do this!
3: It will be so, because I so will it.

    As opposed to:

Gosh, gee, ya think!? I guess I better, then...
  3. Everyone who ever purchased access to Incarnate content still has the same access to that content they have ever had.
  4. [QUOTE=CactusBrawler;3900882]I'd just like access to Alpha to be included if you bought GR, you know since the lead dev's said it was part of GR, and only delayed it due to bad feedback.[QUOTE]

Although I will point out that people who bought GR have just as much access to Incarnates as they have ever had (subscribe or nothin')...

...i would also like to point out that there is nothing wrong with asking the Devs to include a 'preview' of Incarnates along with Premium status. I think that would be a win-win.

Since the fact that "IOs without IO content" has already been deep-sixed by the board and beta communities, I propose that Premeium Players be allowed access to the Alpha slot, the stuff needed to fill it, and the BAF Trial.

Whether or not Incarnates was part of GR is not the point. The point is Incarnate access to Preemies, and I agree with the idea of allowing them a taste.

If this were true, then the situation has not changed:

Pre-I21: Need GR and a subscription.

    Post-I21: Need a subscription.

Oops, my bad; the situation has improved.

    Except in your own head.

    Or in any channel.

    Or in your bio.

    Or in the AE.

Just don't expect the pre-written portions of the game itself to support your rail-offery, and you are fine.

And even then, you can come here to the forums and see if other players agree that it can and should be changed.
  7. It is not the job of the game to restrict how you RP.

By the exact same token, it is not the job of the game to support how your RP.

There are no NCSoft authorized 'canon police' that are going to generic your bio (unless you use it to support playing a licensed character) and if you were, they would be too busy cleaning up their own messes.

As players subject to the rules of the game, it is up to us to make sure how the bios written on our hero IDs jive with canon (or not, whatever).

In point of fact, every character you have that is not an adult human is not supported. Unless you want to explain how it is that your golem/ghost/artificial intelligence/great old one/energy cloud can catch the Vahzilok Disease, be cloned, or imprisoned in the Zig. Or how your teenager got a license to set people on fire.

If you can come up with a beleivable explanation, that's great (and subjective); increment your internets by +1 and go have fun.

If not, that's cool, too. Let he who has the character roster without sin cast the first stone, and all that.

Explaining why your world-eating cosmic being struggles with a group of Threat Rating One Hellions is the exact same thing.

Furthermore: How Rhode Island gauges your level of power and the level of security they assign is undefined. I think of it like going to college: you still have to do the work and rise through the classes, regardless of how experienced you are in the Real World.

In the end it's all between you and your favorite Pocket D catgirl anyway

My characters are locked, but that is not an issue in that I have more than enough slots to unlock them. Still, something is definitely wrong here. I have a secondary account, but this one is my primary and the one that is paid up.
  9. My Game says:

    But my Account says:
…and I am obviously able to post here. What gives?

To those that may be having trouble figuring out the above: The game is saying I am a Free player, but I am paid up VIP through the middle of 2012. Any ideas?

Edit, Bah, the screenshots did not come out. But anyway, has this happened to anyone else? Anything I should try before contacting support?

    I lol'ed.

Just off the top of my head:
wrath: this is the path where you ultimately create a superweapon or cast an uber spell that destroys the world. Your Contacts are a collection of dupes or nihilistic inventors and cultists. Your missions are full of killing off minor heroes, and you conflict with Doctor Vahzilok and Positron. The default 'voice' is that of the ultraviolent thug/sadist.

greed: this is the path where you ultimately hold hostage/horde all of the world's resources, resulting in a dystopia where only you have resources, and those are running down due to the lack of an infrastructure to produce more. Your missions are filled with robberies and capers, your Contacts are corrupt employees, and you contend with the likes of B A Brawler and Black Scorpion. The default voice is that of the amoral mercenary/businessman.

sloth: this path is all about the slavery. You conflict with Ghost Widow and Sister Psyche. Your missions are kidnappings. Your Contacts are fellow mind controllers/brainwashers and the missions are all about deception and mind screw: think the Micheal Douglas movie The Game. The default voice is that of seductive mastermind. Results in a dystopia that appears to be a utopia until you realize that sentience itself has been abolished, and you essentially are utterly alone. The default voice would be that of the elitist.

pride: all glory to me, baby. On this path, you are the cackling, cape-wearing melodramatist, playing it for all that it is worth. You contend with Statesman and Recluse because it's all about face time. You twirl your mustache, monologue, leave helpless foes in deathtraps while you go off do more important things. Your Contacts are genre savvy snarkers and easily impressed innocents. Results in an over-the-top scheme going wrong and destroying the world. The default voice would be the very stereotype of the super villain.

lust: since apparently drugs are allowed in a Teen setting and sex is not, this path is all about the purple haze. Results in a dystopia of a crumbling economy built around the equivalent of opium dens and virtual reality (!). You conflict with Bastion and Aeon. Your Contacts are dealers and bagmen, with the missions dealing with addiction and drug-addled rampages. The default voice would be that of the dangerous seducer.

envy: this is the default path that already exists. It's all about becoming acknowldedged as the most powerful being in the universe.

gluttony: this Path would be all about consuming resources, probably in the name of Science! Possibly on behalf of some insatiable entity (for the magic types). The missions would be dominated by ever greater needs and demands, and a growing sense of desperation over where and how they can be procured. Your Contacts would be suppliers and manufacturers, leading into a dystopia of a world collapsing due to a total lack of the resources you have consumed. You would contend with Scirocco and Manticore.

In other news, the motivations from the old DC PnP game work just fine as paths/voices, too.
  11. What redside really needs is a series of Paths a la Praetoria, that allow you to head to 50 in various ways, each with it's own feel, Contacts, and intersections where you can jump onto another path for a while.

    - A Doctor Doom path ("Megalomania"): I am a vain genius and only I can rule the world properly.

    - A Lex Luthor path ("Hedonism"): I'll take that money, thank you. Oh, and could you put some more of that power on my plate? Just pile it on, and I'll be over in the corner with the babes and the loud music.

    - Cthulhu path ("Nihilism"): Levelled cities. Ruined wastelands that will never support life again. Souls wailing in torment. Beautiful.

    ...at the very least.

This is in addition to the current path ("Personal Power?"), which basically seems to top out at earning a respectful independence from Lord Recluse, at which point you presumably move on to becoming an Incarnate.

Time and tech supporting, it would be good to have paths based on each of the Seven Deadly Sins.

IIRC, there was a deliberate decision at the time to make this game a "World with comic book elements" rather than "playing a comic book."

However, with the introduction of the splash pages, perhaps that decision is being reversed.

    I disagree.

No, that's too strong; I quibble.

You can have a fun an entertaining game that doesn't have an immersive or engaging story. But the two things are orthogonal to each other.

I can and have played fairly crappy games because they have good story and vice versa.

If a game has NO story (Tetris), that's one thing.

If an otherwise good game has a crappy and ridiculous story that pulls me out of immersion or offends me (Bible Black), then I will stop playing.

As far as THIS game is considered, I am in favor of the Devs experimenting with other media and methods of storytelling. We'll figure out what works as we go along.

    That's true.
  15. No, not the emote.

But things that are "canonically true" about your character that the game cannot support.

For instance, my namesake character, Kitsune9tails, is a shapechanger of the "turn into anything: an exact replica of your wife to the DNA level, a teapot you can brew piping hot tea in, the moon..." level. Which is represented in the game by ...Stealth (granted, she doesn't get the appropriate powers of the form, and she always has to have a depiction of a fox tail obviously visible, but you get the idea).

I have another character that is always flying/hovering rather than walking (she is made of gravitic force fields, plasma, and stuff like that there). Never mind when she has to Rest, or land to cast pets, or...

Yet another character is an enchanted porcelain doll. That somehow caught the Vahzilok plague...?

Anyway, post here to laugh, rant and tease about various things you 'hand wave' in-game about your character and their interactions with others, the story, and the world.

Okay, I'll bite: why only those two?
  17. Solutions that worked for me:

1: Deal with the defeat with a smile and a shrug. "Good one, Devs/Lemkin."

2: Pop four lucks and turn on a 'combat movement' power like Hover or Combat Jumping.

Speaking of which, if you make a version of Stardiver on Infinity, she and Infinity have to team at least once It'll be the cosmic crossover of the century! And likely one of those artsyfartsy all-silent comic books...

Oh, and why does Ghost In The Shell require special patience, and what does that have to do with muteness?
  19. Had a character like this from day one, a cosmic being called Beyond (on the Infinity server, of course...).

She (well it is energy in a shape vaguely resembling a human female) only communicates in emotions because she empathic and also has no vocal apparatus (or aural apparatus) and doesn't understand English anyway.

So on a mission, she might acknowledge a spotted boss or AV with:
    (alarm)

    Ask for a heal with
    (fear)

Ask for a Clear Mind effect with
    (static)

    Say "yes" with
    (excitement)

    or "no" with
    (concern)

Based on what I interpret her as understanding from the emotions expressed.

Of course, there are always those who will RP some sort of magical translator/telepathy, but what are you gonna do?

I avoid teaming with her unless the team is made up of RP'ers.

In the case of ingame dialogue, I am happy to handwave things my character "says" as things the hearer thinks the character means, up to a point.

When that fails, I am perfectly happy with deciding communications have broken down and abandoning that arc/mission.

Similarly, if she really needs to finish an arc, there is always the 'Complete this mission' function if I just want to hand wave "she got through it somehow, probably in a messy fashion involving a gross display of cosmic power'.

    Hope this helps!
  20. Definitely some cool ideas here.

I haven't managed to find a lot of actual games with Dating Sim elements that are any good apart from Thousand Arms and the Persona series. Any recommends?
  21. I personally would be in favor of either one more page of story for the non-mission-holders, or no splash page at all.

The splash pages are beautiful and iconic, but without useful info they just delay people getting into the mission.
  22. No, catgirls are a definite possibility.

Here is a version edited for size by me:

    ...
Premise of the game: your character is preparing to face a prophecy in the coming future when something of great evil and destructive power will appear to destroy the earth.

Your character is collecting "seeds" (By this the author means young girls with special powers or occult knowledge) to try and recover humanities old secrets or grant them enough power to stand in for those non-human beings that once lived alongside them.

The game would be played in three or four stages of different time periods. The main character would be either an immortal/ageless girl or the repeat descendents of the same family on the same task.

To begin with, the player would choose one of a list of "seeds" for their own character's powers as well as a personality type that would lend toward some uses of power being easier than others.

Flavor: My current thoughts run toward a mildly ecchi and yuri/lesbian/bisexual undertones because, well, I like cute monster girls and empowering transformations.

The first stage is a prologue where your character in an ancient world setting stumbles over the plans/prophecy of a coming monstrous invasion. This will be short and mostly RP and at the end, the character will choose a seed for their own powers and how they use them.

After the prologue and a seed is chosen and a "class" develops out of development choices in the prologue.

For example, a "chi master" seed with a "warrior" class would be like an anime martial artist. The "mage" class would make it more of feng shui geomancer and such. Classes are easy, they're just differing ways to use the same basic powers, probably split into three types: Warrior/Rogue/Mage. There could be innumerable "seeds"

In addition, the main character would choose one of a set of characters as a significant other.

After the seed is chosen the prologue ends and the next phase would begin. This would be a middle ages/renaissance sort of era.

At this time, your character, the "seed" still appears as a teenager like when she first took on her power, however she has family around her who have the same sort of powers she does. Depending on how well the prologue was completed, the family will be more or less powerful.

Each phase allows for three new seeds to be given/placed and probably to find a new husband. And the phase ends in a major incident that would have to be faced and defeated.

The next phase would be more colonial 1700s/1800s century setting. The character's family and the three seeds she'd chosen from the last would each be at the center of their own powerful families. Depending on how well they passed the previous stage, they would have more resources for setting their initial situation at the beginning of the game. And they would look for another three people to give "seeds" to.

The third phase is going to be 20th century, maybe 1960s and 1970s or later. And another three seeds are chosen before the final battle happens in a near-future setting.
    ...

So an RPG with multi-generational Dating Sim aspects, and possibly some Real Time Strategy for epic battles as well. At the end you could have up to 15 or so Seeds (presumably as generals/heroes of various RTS units).

    Could be cool.
  23. Okay, it would be a mashup of:

A Chinese Ghost Story, only set in modern day. Instead of the timid tax collector, I would be more of the bad@$$ wandering rapping kung-fu spiritualist monster hunter/saver character from that movie: more Jackie Chan(humor)/Bruce Lee(coolness)/Mystique(love shapeshifting) than Cool Old Guy, though. However, like the humble tax collector, I would attract the love of an immortal super powered Cute Monster Girl.

Also unlike the movie, I would not only save her soul but also enable her to remain with me in corporeal form.

Mash that up with Buckaroo Banzai (a wealthy, well-known heroic figure with his own comic book, his own roadhouse rock band and a Nakama of genius specialist butt kickers saving the world from a Rogues' Gallery of bad guys on a regular basis) and you pretty much have a deal.

Also, throw in a little X-Men: my Nakama of genius band members need to have powers of their own and access to training as well.

The name of the movie is "Nine Tales", and it is framed as an anthology with the overarching storyline of saving the Cute Monster Girl as the meta/connecting story. Each of the Nine Tales turns out to be how I (in various guises) and my Nakama succeed in saving her while dealing with menaces that at first seem unconnected, but which turn out to be minions/plots of the overall Big Bad.

The Big Bad, of course, would have to turn out to be (David) Lo Pan. So to top it all off, it could be a stealth sequel to Big Trouble in Little China. So music and direction by John Carpenter and a cameo by Kurt Russell.
