That's right guys,
On sunday the 23rd April, a few of the SG leaders are going to be running a PvP arena tournament. Kick off will be 18.00 and the rest of the rules are as follows
- 2 Tournaments. One for Heroes one for Villains
- Battles take place in arena
- Pentad format meaning 5 man teams with one of each AT
- Battles fought at lvl 35-40 (I think that's the one, whichever weight is just below the epic power level)
- Knockout format
- Winners of Hero/Villain side to meet in a grand final
- You can only be in ONE team
This is open to all and you do not need to register in advance, just turn up on the night. If you have a full team, great, if not there will hopefully be plenty of people wanting a team who you can join.
As soon as you arrive, you will need to give a team name and nominated team leader. You will then be paired up with another team for your first fight. After the fight, the leaders will tell me the result and you will go through to the next round.
Looks like we have plenty of people to help arrange the villain side but if there are any heroes who don't mind being 'marshalls' for the CoH side, please let me know.
We already have E.V.I.L, Horde, Violator, New Blood Rebellion and Bloodline all confirming at least one team. Hopefully it will be a fun event and for those who haven't really had much luck with PvP, 'Pentad' battles are the purest form IMHO and about as fun as it gets. -

I'm on Union and I'm in the violators SG, the richest in Union and they do kick [censored] raids on saturdays, mostly whooping the order of reckoning SG, we got kick [censored] defences, both turrets and players. In raids we pwn.
[/ QUOTE ]
again why is raids considered by many the only form of pvp? if ur group is good at raids come along and try the arena, wud be great to have more people
edit: Art of War seem, from what i've read, to have the edge on all base raid sg's because they pvp in the arena and have become very good at it, if you can be good against the best from union and france then i wud have thought being good at base raiding is a whole lot easier

More to the point, why come and make a post like that, confirming everyones bad opinons of most PvP'ers. Once again we're seeing a prime example of the attitudes that put most people off of PvP
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure where you're coming from there. X doesn't seem to be saying anything bad. :?
Unless you're talking about the post he quoted. In which case I get what you mean.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yup, was on about the post he quoted. Totally unnecessary and seems to be put here specifically to provoke. -
Wasn't Global Sirens as that was specific for that zone IIRC. It was called something like 'PvP Channel' or something similar. Definitely had PvP in the title
-
There is already a PvP channel set up but no one ever uses it. I wa s member of it for a time but never saw more than 10 people on at any one point.
Can't remember the name of it but I'm sure someone will be able to post it here. -

You're look is over. No one really needs to look beyong the 1 AT SG's, LLOD or New Blood Rebellion.
I'll catch up with you in game and have a chat to see which of them I would recommend from how you like playing. Feel free to send an in game mail to Kinslayer or a tell to @Kinslayer and we'll talk.
Welcome to the game -

Huh, We haven't split up in the first we've all just been a bit busy recently with RL issues the League of Scoundrels hasn't broken up, we're just a bit busy atm, but we still welcome new Members and most of us have got 40's and are waiting for Issue 7 to come out to take them further, plus anyone who wants to join us feel free to drop me or any other of the leaders a /tell, they are (in order of most likely to be on) :-
Wynter
Romanov
Swiftsilence
Mr. Torch
Silk Noir
and apologies for turning this into a VG recruitment post

Pretty sure I said SG and not VG -

AoW aren't full of themselves, we don't come on forums and say "we're the best" and we certainly don't flame other PvPers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Amen to that.
I've faced AoW with my VG and it was a very humbling experience(damn those storm defenders). While it could have been very frustrating for us, it was made less so by AoW's attitude.
They were happy to offer advice and didn't brag about the fact they toatlly and uttenrly pwned us.
In comparison to some other other PvP groups out there, these guys show what PvP should be about.
I really do hate these groups who go round boasting and there have been a couple of PvP groups in particulars who's attitade has galled me so much I almost gave up the idea of getting involved in PvP. On a personal level, I find arrogance in real life one of the traits I hate the most and there seems to be a hell of a lot of it in PvP.
As to AoW being the best? The reson I rate these guys is purely because they have not just found powers that work and use them over and over but because they are continually practising and trying new techniques. They are happy to share ideas and try new tactics and while they may not be considered the undisputed best PvP group, they seem to be the ones who put most time into innovation and new tactics.
Why people feel the need to knock them, I have no idea as there are certainly other PvP groups out there with much worse attitudes -

I was planning on making a new Dominator (not sure which powersets yet), and as I have no Defiant slots left I'll be on Union.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, we already seem to have some Defiant players on board. Unfortunately, they seem to be the rubbish ones like Tainted Greek and Xanthus
Only kidding guys, been very impressed with you all so far! -
Well, from the fact Cuppajo on the US forums said the free 2nd anniversay respec will be given AFTER the anniversay as part of the release of I7, we know that it will not be until the week after the anniversary at the very EARLIEST.
He said they were going to give it on the anniversary but as there are power changes as part of I7, they decided to postpone it to coincide with I7
That puts it into hte second week of May if we're lucky but as it's not even on test yet, my money is on the third or fourth week of May, which is why I said at least a month. -

Characters in base raids are now set to an effective level of 50 rather than 40, in preparation for 41-50 villain content
[/ QUOTE ]
Is this a joke?
Villains have very little chance against heroes in base radis as it is with them having the benefit of their additional 40-50 slots.
Now you're trying to say that any raids my VG has planned against SG's over the next month or so(and that's a conservative I7 release estimate from me) are also going to see the heroes having access to their Epic powers as well?
Why on earth has this been released before the villains can even attempt to reach 50? I just do not understand why this could not wait until I7 and now have at least 4 raids to try and reschedule as a result
[/ QUOTE ]
Anyone else think this is a completely 'we don't care aboout any raid plans until I7 comes out' move?
I've got two confirmed raids against SG's over the next two weeks and am pretty annoyed about this -
Guess I should have mentioned it's on Union
-
OK,
already seen that Ice Storm is a pure PvE power. Didn't realise it was a rain of fire type move so that will be out as soon as I respec -
Hi guys,
Got a team PvP build here I'd like comments on. I have a general idea of what works and what doesn't but I'm no PvP guru so any comments on wasted slots and missing or useless powers would be appreciated.
Arctic Fog in particular I kn ow little about and not sure if six slots are wasted and if I should take Blizzard for PvP?

Simple enough post. I'm trying to identify what works in team PvP, what specific powers cause problems and how it's different to solo PvP.
I would also like to try and identify what powers villains have in PvP that heroes don't. We know heroes have a big advantage with the storm set in raids due to whirlwind but I'm looking to find anything villains have that can be leveraged in a similar way. I'm guessing stalkers are the main advantage we have but tactics are quite easy to counter them with.
Any feedback and debates are welcome and here's some topics for discussion.
- Most useful AT's in a CoV PvP team? Corruptors and stalkers seem to be the main ones. Just how effective are Dom's though as they seem quite weak in PvP compared to trollers?
- Target identification. Who are the big threats on hero teams and how should teams target them? I've seen some people will have a 'targetter' and he will pick targets with rest of the team targetting through him. Is this effective or does it leave teams a little inflexible?
- In large raids, 10 people plus, how should teams be coordinated? Should they be 8 man, should they be divided by AT or balanced?
- Killer powersets on CoV. I've seen Ice/Ice Corruptors in operation, I know stone brutes resistance to toggle drops coupled with a kinetic work well but what are the other effective sets? Force Field MM's seem particularly effective in defending raids/PvP zones but are quite poor in attacking raids as they're normally unable to summon.
- CoV Inherents. These are great compared to CoH ones but the best ones seem to come into play in PvP quite rarely. Rage and Scourge are great and make a big difference but how often is Domination utilised? I've found that Dom's have a tough time filling the bar in PvP.
Again, any feedback will help. -
Hi guys,
some of you may have seen that a new VG has been created specifically for PvP. It's a PvP only VG and we've got just over 20 members at the momnet, all specific PvP builds.
Most of the players are experienced PvP'ers and these characters are alts for them.
However, we've found ourselves short of Burutes and Doms, hence this post.
If anyone fancies rolling one of these AT's for a PvP alt, you're more than welcome. We'll try to lvl whenever possible and will have practices on Tuesday nights before competing against other PvP VG's.
Send a tell to @Kinslayer for more info -
Bah, it's near;y summer, how can you say it's cold.
Been a few people asking when you're back and was discussing it with Jiaozy earlier.
If he pops in here, he may have some news for you. Something about a load of your old SG getting back together I think -
CoV Monkey hunt tonight. tell to @Kinslayer or @Fireblazer
-
On the whole, I've found that you simply do not seem to get PuG's on CoV Union.
It's very rare I'm not able to find a team but that's mainly because i'm in one of the better VG's out there and have some very good coalitions.
Not sure why that is though. On CoH, I'm in one of the biggest coalitions out there with LLOD and all the 1 AT SG's but I regularly team in PuG's despite this.
The overall quality of PuG's on CoV does seem to be quite poor though which is what stops many players teaming outside their VG coalitions.
As Max has said, a good VG is the way to go. If you fancy giving the Bloodline a try, give me a shout on @Kinslayer.
We're a PvE group, very active (we have only 3 spots left in the VG and everyone of those in it has been on in the last 20 days) and are pretty relaxed.
SG chat is normally very busy but some of the jokes on there are pretty poor. If you are interested in PvP, we have a seperate PvP VG that is just getting off the ground and we have a seperate VG for any alts. Due to the fact we're always full, we do only allow one alt in the main VG.
We're actually running an SF in your lvl range on Thursday night so if you wanna join us for tha, feel free. -

I just pray to god that I get the Hollows one when it goes live. I avoided the place like the plague and have a nasty feeling i'm not going to get it. Can't think of anything worse than spending time in Hollows with my lvl 50 and having to listen to all the broadcast spam
Still, at least it will finally force me to get the Igneous boss badge. -
As the best all round support set, I will say thermal. Most of the reasons have been covered here but as a general recap, it just seems to have a bit of everything. The bubbles are useful, it has 2 very good heals that are the closest there is to an empathy type power on CoV, It has a great single target buff, a nice single target de-buff and a VERY good AoE debuff at the end.
Thermal is very easy to slot into most teams and will always leave you with a role.
The downside, to be an effective thermal, you will need to largely ignore your offensive set as getting the most out of thermal is a slot hungry process. While it can slot into any team, it doesn't 'specialise' as much as some of the other corruptor sets so you can't really min/max it like other builds, versatility is what you're looking for in this one.
There may also be the concerns that after lvl 40, the heal will become less use as CoH shows with empaths. In the early lvl's empaths are great but as you reach the end game, most builds have got defences and self heals up high enough that they'd prefer a buffer/debuffer to a straight healer.
Personally, I have found my Fire/Thermal the most fun build I've played in over a year of CoH/CoV and this is from someone who could never get on with Blasters or Defenders on CoH. A great all rounder for someone who likes variety in a single build but probably can't add as much overall as some other builds. -

Okidoke, will keep that in mind. BTW, I recently heard that Stealth doesn't provide any defence while fighting. Is this true? Sounds like rubbish to me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't have the facts but sounds like rubbish to me as well and I'm pretty sure the power description says it does still provide you with a defence bonus.
As for the travel power debate, siphone spped may be OK for getting round but it dooes not give you the invis bonus that SS and stealth do. The SS/stealth combo for my lvl 40 Corruptor has been a godsend.
On the Transfusion and Fulcrum Shift front, you seem to have gone pretty heavy on the ACC SO's and 3 of those is probably overkill.
As mentioned, I'd take blaze a LOT earlier in the build as it's probably one of the more powerful attacks in the set and I'd take that ahead of fire breath. they have a similar range but the damage on blaze is a lot higher. Fire breath may be a cone but it's not that often you'll actually get close enough to hit multiple targets without dying first.
One of my favourite combo's with the fire set is to aim, blazing bolt, then run in and hit blaze while SS/stealth is active. what this actually does is let you snipe from afar and by the time the animation has ended on snipe you can 'follow' the attack in and hit the same target before he really has a chance to attack. Against most enemies, that's pretty much a free kill.
One thing I'm not sure of though, is this a PvP or PvE build?
If it's PvP, ignore my comments on the ACC's as every power should really have 2 in for PvP. If it's PvE, I wouldn't leave home without 6 slotted Inferno on my lvl 40. -
Well, I don't think anyone can say Hamidoom is a fun way to spend your time on CoH and I'm not as desperate for HO's to farm them like the yanks or try to buy up all the ones in the game like some of the PvP'ers.
One of the last things I needed to actually achieve in CoH and it's now done, the thought of running these on a monthly basis just makes me want to cringe! -
Wednesday 4 April, @Fireblazer and myself, @Kinslayer will be farming a Rikti monkey mission on COV for this hard to get badge. Not sure of the exact time but I guess it will start about 18.30 and go on as along as needed.
-
For those who do plan to use these tactics again, there are two a couple of areas we kind of fell down on.
- Getting to the blob. This was a real pain for those teams that did not have fly. Group fly is OK but if you're in one of the three 'key' teams of illu's, tanks and kinetics that need to drop in first, trying to get everyone with fly is probably the way to go. I also think something is wrong in the Hive as 'swarm' cluds didn't just slow recharge but actually de-toggled our entire team en route. Thanks to Sara Aegis for having recall friend as we wouldn't have been able to get in place without it.
- The drop. This is VERY tricky as getting the tanks far enough away from the other guys did prove to be a bit of a problem. We tried to move away from the 'turtle' but people were so far spread out that it was hard to see where the turtle began and ended. It was also proving impossible to actually get in range to taunt/epic hold him at some points due to the sheer number of heroes. The fact the tanks were all in the black costume and repeated shouts for the hangers on to move away from us were ignored was just annoying.
- Target Hamidon through the pets. With Hamidon disappearing so much, it was getting tiring hearing people saying 'I can't see him' every 10 seconds and ignoring calls to target through the pets. From beginning to end, we had a couple of singularities who had a lock on Hami for the entire encounter but people didn't seem to want to use them.
Other than that, I have to say that the plan of ignoring the mito's was spot on. Once we were in on Hami, they pretty much seemed to ignore us and the few stray shots we did receive were soaked up by the healing blanket. I think that nearly all of the deaths occured in the first few minutes, getting to Hami and getting in position so this really does seem to be THE way to beat him at the moment.
Was also quite nice to see that, excluding those on 'hide', we had 201 people in there and was a very good turnout. I think we could have probably done it in a lot less time than we did as Hami seemed to be held VERY quickly. Unfortunately, the lag and server slowdown made it impossible to confirm.
Still the usual noob problems that seem to go with the territory of people having no idea of the plan but deciding they can order the attack, tell people when to use Vanguard, not turn off useless powers that cause lag, etc but most of them were kept under control.
