  1. Actually, Old Stone is a granite. Not going to make this easy for him by sending a kinetic along

I have a pentad league in the very early planning stages so if bridger and co dont have time for s4 this year i'll gladly help anyway way I can or i'll try running mine.

    woot go cherry

Cherry, what would be great for this league.... Random teams.

I'm not saying draw a random pentad at the beggining of each round but draw random teams at the start and that is the team for the rest of the tournament/league.

I think what puts a lot of casual PvP'ers off these tournaments or PvP'ers who are not part of regular teams is that no matter how able they may be at PvP, they're up against it from the start with a regaulr pentad team with well drilled tacics and a specific team strategy.

I think 3vP has show, to great effect, that breaking down teams into players encourages a lot more people and throws up a lot more interesting matches.

Despite being a keen PvP'er, I wouldn't bother enter a pentad league as I know there are teams who have 6 months+ practice together and all the PvP skill in the world doesn't overcome that intuitive understanding of what your team mates will do.

Getting people to enter individually then drawing the team at random when the tournament starts would certainly make it more interesting.
  3. But we already have our very own Afro in the 1 AT SG

I suggest arena at dawn to prove who is the true afro

Bingo BJB thats the plan... everyone get shivans and a full array of nuclear weapons. Doctor Dust

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Why?

We all have our level 1-10 origin specific powers now and they pwn all

Good luck with this guys. I know a lvl 50 kinetic who doesn't visit the forums much so will let him know in game tonight.

at that time there'll be far too may heroes around for success to be likely...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Especially as it's now been posted on a public forum the heroes can see. Many of the PvP'ers will probably turn up just for the free for all now.

Much better to organise these attempts by word of mouth rather than broadcast them.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Well, he could... but all the time Health is keeping you going is time you don't have to interrupt your attack chain to fire off a Heal - making for a more effective scrapper.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd recomend looking at the figures on 3 slotted health before saying that. Base regen is 0.4% HP per second(12 seconds for 5% recovery), 3 slotted health takes that up to 0.7%(7 seconds for 5%). Those three slots and precious power are a complete waste of time as a single unslotted brawl would overcome that!

There are a lot of completely pointless powers in CoH but for some reason, people are fooled into thinking health is not one of them
  7. Any update on the draw for tonight?

    Kal'tk dings 50

He he he, only just seen this.

It has actually taken a long while as Kal'tk was my main character shortly after starting CoH and got all the way to lvl 42 before I really started alting. Then ED hit and the Instant Heal change with me messing up his respec so he was left to gather cobwebs shortly after I5. The poor little fella was abandoned quite cruelly as I started a tank instead and made him my first 50

Next up is getting my PvE Corruptor, Kinslayer, his last 6 levels followed by my PvP Corruptor, Exofrost MK IV his last 9.

Then I have another scrapper and an empath sitting around who i'll level 'on the side' for PvP purposes.

I also keep kidding myself that I'll persevere with my WS and PB but I just don't like them!

Must admit, glad I finally got my second 50 considering the time I put in playing. Seeing people I used to be levels ahead of getting their 100th 50 has been making me feel a little inadequate of late and I'm beginning to regret the amount of times I deleted or re-rolled toons in the late 30's, especially when it only took me 3 weeks to get Exo from 1 to 40, showing me how laid back my approach to levelling has been in the past

As with all things CoH, the ding didn't go smoothly as me and Stalk_obot were in the last room, fighting the last mob needed for the mission bonus to ding me when the game crashed and I had to do a full reboot.

Still, logged back in and took my frustration out on a pesky stalker in warburg before dinging

Cheers to Stalk_obot and Free Spirit for helping me level my last 5 bars.
  9. Well, everyone's had enough time to enjoy the World Cu.. I mean I7 so I think it's time to start the PvP nights again.

Starting on Tuesday at 19.30, those villains wanting to run some practice sessions should turn up in the Port Oakes arena, Emerald zone.

Before we do start, there appear to be a few misconceptions creeping into recent sessions so i'm just going to re-iterate some points.

    - This is NOT about winning matches and proving you're 'uber and the rest are the suxxors'

    - It is NOT about always fighting at the level that your character is currently at. We set up matches and fight at the level of the LOWEST competitor so everyone can take part(within reason of course)

    - This is NOT about you getting to only team with your VG/friends. We try to make the matches balanced and will juggle teams accordingly.

The point of these sessions is to give everyone some fun and balanced PvP matches, the chance to try things out and to share tips and knowledge. Newcomers are more than welcome and any particular teams/scenarios are also welcome.

I am going to line up a little treat for a future practice night which will be 'match of the evening'. Basically, it will involve inviting some of the more well known PvP groups such as Violators, E.V.I.L, Art Of War, Retribution, etc to submit a team for an end of evening competitive match each week We will then pick a team to face them from random members of those who are there that week. The idea will be that after all our practice, we can then try to put it in operation against actual PvP teams.

The reason for this is that the sessions up until the break have been fun but we've not really been pushing ourselves and they've seemed to lack a bit of direction. Hopefully, this end of night competition will make them a bit more focused.

As always, any comments and feed back are welcomed.
  10. Any comments on the below build? the plan is to go for a PvE build early on then respec into this from around lvl 30 on.

Main concerns are the end cost and the lack of attacks before lvl 30 for Sirens

  11. OK, now that I7 has been in place for a few weeks, the Bloodline VG has cleared out a few dead toons and moved those alts that sneaked into the main VG to our alt VG.

We've now freed up 11 spots in the VG that are up for grabs for those looking for one.

As a VG, we're a pretty laid back bunch of people and can guarantee there are at least 8 players on most evenings.

We're in coalition with most of the big VG's on Union(E.V.I.L, Deus Ex Machina, The Horde, Pirates Of Apocalypse, Demons and Vengeful Spirits). We have two of the biggest badge hunters on the server so all badge needs are catered for(not even going to try and pretend me or Dark Merchant come close to Black Jon Bludd though ).

We have a seperate VG for alts, Bloodline, and also have a PvP VG, Last Legion Of Destruction.

I'd like to say we have players of all levels but most of us are 38+ at the moment. Don't let that discourage you as a low level though as we'd love to get some new blood in and if you have people you team with regularly at low levels, they're welcome to join to.

We put no pressure on players to earn prestige and do not try to be an 'uber' VG but are just a group of people who play for fun. The only real requirement we have is that you must log on every 14 days or your place may be at risk.

Anyone interested can reach me on @kinslayer, hope to hear from you.
  12. While I'm not convinced a 1 on 1 league is going to be anything other than unfair from the outset, i'm also not sure these rules do anything to try and balance this

1 bonus point for winning by 5 kills - This is a scrappers dream and penalises low damage output toons.

Players will face each other twice, except for those that belong to the same person who will not face each other at all - This leaves people with more than one character entered at a disadvantage. It would be far more sensible to only allow players to enter one character.

The use of Tempory Power is NOT allowed - Not sure if there's an option to switch this off in arena matches but if there isn't, this will be impossible to police as there are now 'auto' temp powers that are always on.

No options ticked - Rated matches actually tick some of thes eoptions by default. Are you saying no 'additional' options ticked or no options ticked full stop so the default rated ones should be over ridden?

Disconnections - Starting from a set time seems a little iffy. Much more sensible to say, like in other PvP events, if you crash on loading, re-start. Anything else counts as a loss unless BOTH players agree to reset in advance. People can force D/C's to restock on BF's against trollers so this is VERY open to abuse.

Have you actually got a group of players together to try matches out with these rules to see if they will work? I'd not finalise rules in anyway until i'd at least done some test fights to see what the possible problems are going to be.
  13. First off, you need more slots in your heals, particularly warmth. I'd six slot both of them with 3 heal, 3 recharge to be honest as, warmth in particular, you want to be able to spam when required.

For PvP purposes, drop health for hurdle. I cringe everytime I see a squishy with health as people just don't seem to realise how feeble it is. Take a look in hero builder and look at how low the regen benefit you're actually getting from it is and you'll see that it really is a completely wasted power whereas hurdle at least gives you unsurpressed movement.

If the build is for teaming, rather than solo, I'd drop fire breath, take some of the other powers a little earlier and get hasten in there and 3 slotted ASAP. That would also open SS up as a travel power at 14 as TP is not the greatest of travel powers for PvP.

I have a lvl 43 fire/thermal designed purely for team support and I'll post his build here when I get home. Thermal wise, I've taken pretty much everything and from fire blast I took fire blast, aim, blaze, blazing bolt and inferno. Pool wise, I took hasten, SS, TP friend, TP(taken quite late though), swift, hurdle stamina, stealth.

Like you, I suffer from knockback and have toyed with taking the leaping pool over TP or concealment but the ability to TP and rez people is too useful and the invisibility stealth offers with SS in PvE is also too useful.

When I get my build up, worth noting that it is a PvE build, rather than PvP so there are a couple of things you may want to consider when comparing it. You'll definitely want Thaw earlier than I have it for PvP purposes and range in your single target heal and shields is normally useful for PvP as well.

My build has also been planned out up to lvl 50 with the Scirroco pool. Power Sink really does help with my end management hugely in PvE as this was the one problem area for me.

There's also a thread on a mixed PvE/PvP build for Fire/Thermal HERE and the last build in there is pretty spot on
  14. [ QUOTE ]
I dont see any MoX running around hardly ever in game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've heard of them and seem some members around in PvP zones. NEVER teamed with a single member in over two years of play though.

Do you guys only team exclusively within MoX?
  15. Nice hunt.

In 45 minutes, we managed to kill about 100 toxics to get most people half way on their bar.

May do another run Sunday evening
  16. You may want to check out the thread in General Discussion discussing the team that successfully completed this SF.

Their opinion was that it's basically debuffers who are the key and they went debuff heavy, rather than brute heavy.

They're saying the final AV's were pretty much 2 shotting their brute who was stacked with frostwork so they basically just used him as a taunt/aggro holder, rather than for offence and just kept permahealing him. This may be a lot harder to do with 3 or 4 brutes.
  17. A few more details about this hunt. It will be taking place in Grandville and the tarantula's we'll be hunting are lvl 42-43 bosses.

There's a nice little series of platforms we can do circuits of and pick up 5-6 each time round. It's taken me roughly an hour to get 75% and, evcen better, I picked up over 2 bars of XP in that time at lvl 42.
  18. Powers - Critters

The Hamidon has been increased in difficulty. It is now capable of using one of its attack powers even when Held, Slept, or Stunned.

Not sure how much of an effect this will have but it's a Hami buff that went in and has only juste been added to the patch notes
  19. I'm about 75% into this badge and running out of contacts fast at lvl 43 so would like to finish it off tonight to unlock the contact related to it.

Any 40+ also in need of the badge, I'll be hollering over the Union Badgehunter channel or you can send me a tell on @kinslayer.
  20. One of the best for the more casual player would probably be the 1 AT coalition. My old SG was in coalition with these guys and what makes them so grewat is that they're not all 'uber pwnerz' players but guys who play it for fun. There's no pressure to PvP or prestige farm, just put up with their insane chatter over coalition

Their unique selling point is that they have 1 SG for all of the different AT's, (as a scrapper, you would go to 'Team GBH') all in coalition with each other.

    They have a forum here:

    1 AT Coalition

Main guys I can think of to get in touch with off the top of my head are @double, @deluge and possibly @accy.
  21. I also take a bit of a sick satisfaction in attacking people doing missions. They're not there to experience the content but for the greed of the extra XP PvP missions offer.

Also, knowing the 'risk V reward' ethos, that's exactly why they're higher XP so they're fair game IMO.

PvP aggro is what they risk by taking the easy XP in those missions
  22. Team 1 beat team 6 16-7.

Team 6 had to sub Hackitoff for Frost Priest as he was a no show.
  23. MY fire/thermal has it and wouldn't leave home without it before I7. Since then, I've had to drop 'aim' to put in TP thanks to the Super Speed hell of Grandville and can't beleive how badly it's affected it.

Before, it would wipe a group of even con's no problem. Now, it leaves them all with a tiny sliver of health and me with shedloads of aggo
  24. Kinslayer_

    A 3vP thought..

Here's a post I made in response to setting up an actual ongoing 'league' rather than a knock out cup

    [ QUOTE ]
After the one me and Ronin arranged a few weeks back, it did kind of put me off a bit TBH. Most people were great but the one or two who whinged and complained did kind of overshadow that.

I have looked into various ways of making a weekly league but the bottom line is that solo PvP is too unbalanced and team PvP is almost impossible to guarantee the full team will turn up every week to make a league workable.

I've even looked at 'ladder' leagues rather than traditional points ones where there is a random or seeded draw to establish league order and each week there are 'challenges' with every result affecting the ladder.

Another alternative is to have players score points individually but make it a 3vP style team event where each player is responsible for getting a team of three and fighting another team of 3. Each player then gets the points if their team wins. The problem here is that you'll just get the best or same players teaming with each others.

A way around this would be to say you can only team with a maximum of one(or none depending on the numbers) of the players you teamed with the week before and divide the table in 3 so you have to have one from each level of the table in a team, meaning people dropping or moving up will move into different parts of the table, making teams a bit more random. Also, as long as there aren't too many of 1 AT, restricting the teams to just one of each AT(no 3 man spine/regen teams thank you)

A simple 3 points for a win and maybe a bonus point if you beat them by more than 10 kills. Maybe running in 5 week periods then having one week breaks or possibly having it ongoing with a waiting list with bottom 3 relegated from the league each week and next 3 from the signup list taking their place. That way, the league size can be increased or decreased as the waiting list shrinks and grows.

Those on the waiting list could also be used as 'reserves' to fill spots for no shows. The no shows would still suffer a loss and the reserves wouldn't take their place in the league but repeated no shows will slip into the relegation zone that much quicker.

Either way, it's certainly not something I'll even be looking at in any more detail until 3vP is over and every system I've looked at has loads of wrinkles that would need ironing out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really don't think limiting the melee AT's is the way to go, simply because such a huge number of the PvP players out there are scrappers.

The main problem with a league is that it needs to allow new entrants and needs to punish no shows, without kicking them entirely so the idea of relegation seems to work. Relegations happening every week and the league 'resetting' every 4 or 5 weeks also works.
  25. Not massively surprised TBH.

The AV at the end of this one is nasty enough as it is and the key to beating him is to take him down VERY fast, something the AV regen rates don't allow at the moment.

There was also a huge rush for this SF in the run up to I7 when people realised you needed the badge for one of the accolades(I even ran 3 in one week for all my VG members), meaning that most of those 35+ at the time actually interested in it probably done it then.

I see a distinct lack of SF/TF's happening until the AV's are fixed
