Quote:Okay, wow, that's really given me a lot to think about. The core skills are the same but it's softcapped even without mindlink. Not to mention more attacks, more damage, no purples and great accuracy. Given me a lot to think about. Removing the gladiator IO and replacing the fighting skills with Maneuvers still has softcapped defences, only for a little less end. and more def. shared with others. Will tinker a little more, thanks for sharing this. Guess I'm not too good with thinking outside the box.I took a different route, wanted lots of defense, and I'm cheap. The only somewhat expensive item is the Gladiator's Armour. I used to have Mental Blast and Eviscerate, dropped those for the medicine pool and weave. In the long past had smoke grenade, I could never tell if it was actually helping. I did give up some recharge, don't even have hasten, but, Mind Link is perma. Don't forget that Mask Presence has 2 defense values and that it is only a stealth power, not invis or "hidden" even thou it says that. That is why I put the stealth IO in sprint, with mental training and sprint, cave are easier to manage than super speed and it is slightly more endurance friendly.

No one has any thoughts or ideas for improvements? I've made some minor adjustments, primarily to the order in which skills are taken:

Hi all, I've been struggling to get to grips with playing a Widow, and just hit 24. I'm trying to plan a build to have something to aim for and would love any feedback on any potential improvements. I think it's pretty good (and likely quite pricey!), but don't know how it'll play at higher levels. So far my experience with this archetype hasn't been good; for one thing it lacks an identity of its own and for another, I think I am a bit rubbish with her. Thoughts on the following, in particular, can costs be brought down and damage output:

30% damage buff
23% defense across the board
Vengeance, Darkest Night, Immobilise
And for herself:
Softcapped defenses, high mez resistance
75% psionic resistance
perma hasten, mindlink and pet
Aid self
To hit debuffs (smoke grenade and darkest night), recharge/regen/movement debuffs
Considering swapping Vengeance for the Taunt ability, but other than that, she seems to have reasonable survivability and damage. -
I think my main problem is not really fully understanding the 45% defense thing. I understand that under normal circumstances, there's no tangible benefit to going higher, as enemies always have a 5% hit-chance. If that is the case, then does that mean that with a 45% defense already obtained, One With The Shield will have no tangible effect? Is that true across all archetypes?
Also specifically about Phalanx Fighting, having set it to 0 allies, it still seems to offer a 5% defense increase. Is that the case then, that it always offers 5% and additional defense when teamed allies are nearby? -
Thank you all for the very helpful replies. I've taken on board a lot of what was said and reworked the above build quite a bit. It's not perfect but provides much more defence and includes two more attacks. It's still a little pricey but also cheaper than the above I'd estimate. I think it needs some tweaking, mostly on the power order but possibly slotting too. It's fun to play in the meantime and this gives me something to aim for!

Buying CoH on Steam adds it to your games tab and gives you a serial you can use to either a) register a new account or b) upgrade an existing account with either the Magic or Cyborg add-on pack.
Launching the game doesn't even use Steam verification and brings you to a normal login CoH login screen so you can log in with any account you wish. -
Hi all, I've not played a tanker before so I can't really compare numbers but I've been playing with a build I think could be pretty nice. It's a bit pricey but has no purples so is realistically achieveable. What do you think?
The lvl 47 power isn't strictly necessary, it's just for pulling but absolutely non-essential. Potentially stealth or resuscitate for general utility? I found i had an abundance of slots which is quite rare normally! Would welcome any comments!

I didn't know those vanguard peeps sold inspirations now, it must be relatively recent or changed since RWZ first arrived. If that's the case then it's great news! The AE merchant is also a great idea, thanks.
With regards to giving inspirations to enemies, just to clarify, I don't wish to be able to out of any sense of camraderie or good will of course! Keeping a hero alive is purely self-serving as it means they can get hit instead of me, help me pursue my short-term villainous goals and means I'll have the satisfaction of killing them myself at a later time!
I wanted to clear this point up in case it could damage my reputation as a merciless, cold-hearted fugitive from justice. :-) -
I'm sure this has likely been suggested before, but I can't find a thread or a 'suggestions' or ideas forum to post this in. I wondered, why can't heroes and villains trade inspirations? I realise that trading between 'enemies' is prevented...after all trading currency, recipes, enhancements or salvage could have a major effect on the economies.
But inspirations have very little value. And while on a TF or mission in one of th co-op zones, not being able to trade with on member of the team but being able to with another is just plain frustrating and unnecessary. After all, I could ressurect them if I had the power to, why can't I give my hero friend an inspiration?
I think it would be a great ability to be able to do just this. To balance it and prevent it from being abused, what about:
- Heroes and villains can only trade inspirations in co-op zones, and:
- can only trade while on a mission map while in a team OR on a TF,
- can only trade inspirations and nothing else.
Optional:
- Can only trade small inspirations
- Can only trade awakens
- Can only trade awakens if other character has fallen
This would prevent the system from being abused and should have practically zero effect on the economies....10 extra enrages entering the market isn't exactly an exploit. Why can't this be implemented? While I'm teamed with a stinking, no good, dirty hero in a coop zone it's because I've decided I can tolerate them on the team so why can't I give my hero friends a wakie like I can my villainous brothers in arms?
And while I'm wishing...please can there be an inspiration vendor in RWZ somewhere. Borea or Levantera, someone, anyone. Not being able to buy inspirations during the LGTF can be a pain in the butt if it's the not the best team. -
Oh, that's saddening
Considering NVidia bought Agaeia especially to incorporate the physx processor onto their cards, it's odd...the hardware is the same, and in my system, just not on a seperate card. Is there really no way to enable physx then? Even with a third party patch, driver, etc? Hope cryptic can fix that, considering it's the way physics processing is going to be.

Also, am I missing something or does lightning, for example, not work indoors? I have my first four costume slots bound to o, p, [ and ] respectively...is there a way to include the change effect when I change costume with a key press, or does it only work via costume selection window?

Hi all, Forgive me if this has been asked but neither google nor this site's search tool returned any (useful) results when I looked. I upgraded recently to a lovely GTX285 graphics card, which has an on-board PhysX processor. However, despite running the latest forceware drivers (182.50) and having installed the latest PhysX software from their site, in-game, the option to enable PhysX is greyed out.
I was wondering if anyone might have an idea what I may be missing. PhysX is enabled in the Nvidia control panel and I'm running Vista 64. I've gleefully maxed out every pther graphical setting but would very much like to get CoV working 'the way it's meant to be played' (boom tisch). Anyone else have this problem? Sincere thanks in advance for any replies...unless you're a hero, in which case -
I've just started an Electric/Ninjitsu stalker and noticed something already quite early on that's a bit concerning. At lvl 2 I chose Jacob's Ladder to go with my lvl 1 attack, Charged Brawl. While hidden, my CB criticals when I hit a mob with it, as you'd expect. However JL does not.
On the basis that a stalker's inherent ability is such that his attacks critical from Hide, I don't understand why JL doesn't. Not including assassin strike, the other attacks in the set (Chain Induction and Lightning Rod)...do they crit when executed from Hide? I thought the electric pri set was brilliant for it's ability to damage more than one mob at a time, but don't see a point in taking a Stalker set whose attacks don't seem to work with a stalker's inherent ability....except for CB (and presumably Havoc punch). -
Hi all, I'm new to the game and these boards, and after reading many posts hoped the community wouldn't mind me saying hello and asking for some Corruption advice
I've so far very much enjoyed the game, having not seen many games crafted as well or beautfully, nor with such a brilliant control system and community feel.
I liked the Corruptor character for his long range and support abilities. Though Energy looked like an interesting primary power set I opted for radiation as it has the defense penalty too, and Fire as 2nd for it's healing, and in three days have made it to lvl 12
So far I have:
Neutrino Bolt, XRay, Irradiate
Warmth, Cauterize
Swift, Hover, Teleport Friend
What I don't understand though is how some powers which I couldn't have chosen before were made available, despite not choosing the one above it. Is it possible to get any of the powers in the sets I chose regardless of which ones I've already chosen? I was ultimately thinking of something along the lines of:
Neutrino Bolt, XRay, Irradiate, Photon, Neutron, Atomic Blast
Warmth, Cauterise, Phoenix
All the fitness powers, Teleport and maybe hasten (which everyone on the boards seems to swear by)
I don't really know what to do with slots every odd lvl so have tended to distribute them a evenly except i have 4 on warmth. Is there anything I should aim for, or an order to try and follow to be a better team player/solo player? I know I would like teleport at 14 to make getting around easier, and phoenix at 16 if that is available, as ressurection seems to be useful. Any advice or experiences gratefully received. Hope to see you around in game
PS. What does irradiate actually do? It says moderate damage but only hurts for like 1, 1, 1, 1. Is there any way to change it to a better power?
