Thanks for the input!

Ok, so in my other thread, I was looking at NRG/NRG, but have decided to compromise and pick AR/NRG, which I hear synergize well, and allows me some outlet for my KB urge, but a more balanced Primary.
I am looking for a build idea for AR/NRG. What I am looking for is probably going to mostly be levelling AE so AOE damage, with some survivability for jailbroken bosses.
For concept + survivability I will definitely be hovering.
Just looking at Mids, I get this, but please bear in mind this could be horrible, I just wanted to try to do something rather than be the guy that asks for help with out at least doing some legwork.
I do not know if I should take Slug, if hasten is taken too late, if I am not taking enough from NRG, or if I have taken anything that un-be-knownst-to-me is gimpier than it looks.
Thanks for any and all comments!

I love knockback.
I think its one of the fun unique things that makes CoH feel super-hero-y, and it's not in most other MMO's (WoW has added some simple kb effects in WoTLK, but nothing like CoH).
I have always wanted to roll up a NRG/NRG/Force, space blasting dude, and now with customization its going to be hawt (on paper).
The problem is, erm, doesn't *everyone* hate KB on a team? Is it going to cause AE teams to freak out with all the KB?
I mean, part of me would love to even slot KB, the ragdoll is just so much fun, but I am seriously worried about being ostracized to be honest.
Any thoughts? -
Sorry if it was unclear from my post that I am 41. Several bits of advice here refer to leveling, or were you guys meaning for exemping?
I thought people when they respecced at 50, always put their travel power, or such in the 49 slot due to not having the ability to slot it much.
I was thinking of slogging through 41-50 slow style so I would not have to respec fundamentally again -- but maybe I am missing something. If anyone has any ideas for reordering these things in a way to get SJ in sooner optimally, I would appreciate it, but I am afraid of goofing with the slotting.
I rejiggered things to get this based on the advice in here and my concepts and my experiences in game the last few days. I did not take from leadership, because that would push me to 5 pools, and FA fits my concepts, and I can afford the end.
If this seems ok, I am going to go on to start figuring out the slotting and the sets in mids.

Hello.
For the first char ever, I am lookin to push my MA/Reg to 50, so I feel like I need to bang out how I am goign to run, and actually start to get some 40+ I/O's.
I am having trouble deciding on what all the powers should be, and I think I would like to get those fleshed out before I think about slotting and tryin to get sets hammerd out.
I am just generally not excited about the APP's, but I dont see something from another pool that would be a better choice, leadership maybe? Teleport Foe would really help my idea of being an emergency offtank on runners that go for softies.
Does anyone not go 3 powers from APP and have success? I really don't want to ever use LBE for concept, but I could (grudingly) make ET fit for the awesomeness. I hate to have any power that is just there wasted, but I have no play style desire for LBE, and really only with some shoehorning would use ET at all.
If I run with the tradional 3 APP, I am looking at the below powers. If I can find away out of the APP, I would have to rejigger those 3.
As to the below build, after APP, the only thing I am uncomfortable with about this approach is lack of vertical movement, not knowing if I am losing too much DPS from skipping Focus Chi, or if its worth the occasional boss pop of Cobra Strike.
Any thoughts on this general approach?

/bind mbutton +camrotate worked perfectly.
Thanks! -
I am trying to decide what to take for my APP powers, and having no characters above 40 before, I don't really have any idea sort of what I am doing.
I am looking at Body. I have like no end problems, so I am not sure if Conserve Power is worth it, so it looks like FA is the obvious choice if anything. How does having FA change my slotting for +ACC?
After that, I am looking at maybe energy torrent, but it just doesn't feel right for my char to take ranged anything, so I am reluctant.
What's the standard package that people take? -
I accidentally changed my middle mouse button to toggle mouselook mode, which I way don't want.
What I would like is to get it back to being a free view thinger, like you can look at yourself from the front, etc.
Any thoughts? -
Good Evening,
I came back from a CoH hiatus to my 23 Fire/Kin. Introduced to AE, I am now 37, on the cusp of hitting 38 and getting FS.
When I played this in the oldy moldy days, I built him with soloing large spawns in outdoor zones in mind. I had gotten to be ok at it, but that's kind of a days of yore mode. Nowadays, I find myself on teams, particularly AE and I have some questions to make sure I am on the right track. I have been scribbling these down as a I play, so I apologize if it's long-ish.
1) Should I be running Hotfeet on teams? I had it slotted up, due to its important damage role solo, but I am worried that on teams, its getting me unneeded aggro for relatively little return.
2) Should I popTransference every time it comes up for the debuff aspect, even if everyone on the team is max-ish endurance?
3) Is there an optimal order to interweaving Fire Cages and Flashfire? I am worried that the disorient might be messed with by the immob, somehow. On "boss" style mishes, FF doesn't appear to be doing the disorient, and I assume that's from them being bosses resistant to the status change, but wanted to check.
4) Is there a good way to see if SB is on people other than the teeny, baby, tiny, lolz icons that grow to the right of the team screen? I have a 22" monitor and I cant hardly see those teeny icons to tell a boot from a what-have-you.
5) When should I switch to IO's? This totally confuses me. I am getting SO's from tickets, but I am not sure when to get IO's. Do I wait to 50? I have 250-300 million from my last COH hurrah, and I want to save that for the big permanent IO's I get for the long haul.
6) General Slotting... with FS, should I back off damage? Should I have damage on everything like char too? Is the ultimate goal to get recharge way down? I dont have hasten ATM, but I am going to respec into it. I know there is not a simple answer here, I guess my best way to say this is, what should be my guiding principle for slotting?
7) Is there any way in the chaos to see if you have the full 3 imps out? I see an imps icon on my buffs, and sometimes it says 2, which I don't get, as I cant have it out twice.
Thanks for any thoughts! -
Hello,
I have a teens MM from years ago, that is Thugs/Dark. We were doing some concept thing of all Thugs/Dark, I think there was some kind of idea to melt the server with Gang War x 8 or some such.
Well, the VG is long gone, but my old char remains, and I was wondering if this set combo is still decent.
I looked for a thread, but haven't really seen any Thug/Dark threads to speak of.
Thanks for any thoughts. -
Thanks for the response.
I think the problem is I am using a new, wonderful, fast, sleek, ooh-look-at-me notebook (that happens to have a relatively meh graphics card - that's its Achilles heel). Anything non-gpu it feels very fast, but graphics are another story.
I just assumed the card wasm't THAT bad, but its looking like the culprit.
When I build the new machine for W7 timeframe-ish, I am going to be using all new-at-the-time mid to mid-high level components, so it should solve this problem easily from what I am hearing. -
Good Morning,
I haven't played in a spell, and have some questions about pushing performance (cause multiple mob situations are killing me). I am putting a new computer together and have some thoughts rattling around.
1) Do you still have to manually specify -renderthread 1, or does the client figure out you have multi-core and adjust?
2) Short of watching the task manager % load, is there an ingame /show command to verify its on, would just /show renderthreads work? Can't try it atm.
3) How many threads does it make? Will it get spread over all 4 logical processors in a quad core?
4) I see on the WWW that NVidia intended to build PhysX rendering into their cards? Did this happen? Does it work for CoX? Does it help or hurt to have the card also thinking of that?
5) Has anyone had experience with a current gen (OCZ/Intel/etc) SSD and loading times?
6) Is there any hardware it favors? My last two cards have been ATI, which is great for 99% of things I do, but is a sort of persona non grata with CoH, so I am going Nvidia this time. How about CPU? Is there a particular cache size, or bus, or etc that it likes?
Thanks for your comments! -
Is it normal to take straight up "Taunt", or is there enough threat from the other abilities to make it obsolete?
I have seen some builds with it and some with out across the various Tanker posts.
Thanks. -
My interest in my tanker is definitely renewed by this, I didn't realize how this all played out.
Thanks for all the great responses! -
Thanks for posting your build.
I don't see that you really have much AOE damage. Is this normal, or am I missing something? Maybe I dont understand tankers design philosophy.
My biggest thing is that I am constructed to fight with alot of friends and foes around, but dont understand how to hit the foes en masse. I see AOE skills in the SS line, but no one seems to take them,
I know that the tanker is not *primarily* damage, but I do want to bust *some* heads. -
I am coming back to CoH after a long hiatus, and am starting a Tanker to have a different PoV. I decided on SD/SS for look-and-feel, and it appears that it should be a functional, playable combo
So far I have found a few threads, but no real overall guide. That's fair since SD is from I13. I think I really like SD, I sort of get it, but I am having trouble understanding using SS, and I might be interested in another Secondary that fits my char feel.
I am only 11, so my experiences are limited, but the biggest thing I seem to be missing is the ability to tag for aggro or just plain hurt mobs AOE. Should I be taking the AOE attacks in SS or not? The few threads I saw, don't seem to take the SS AOE abilities.
Any other thoughts or tips from those with experience? Is this a combo that synergies well? -
I have noticed, if I accidentally press both mouse buttons I will more forward. This is not a big deal, except that it makes my W key sort of have to be re-depressed, and this makes me crazy.
Is there any way to address this? I didnt see where I could toggle off the L+R = move bind.
Thanks. -
I am coming back to CoH from a long hiatus. I have a 23 Fire/Kin that I am picking back up, but I am not quite as interested in creating the farmers build.
Just looking at the first page, there seems to be a very common farming theme to the Fire/Kin "sub-culture". I am curious about how effective Fire/Kin is in TF's and other PuG's and what not as a group member.
Is the control/damage/buffage decent at this point, or is Fire/Kin sort of niched into the farmer/soloing space.
Thanks. -
Are these two posts basically saying that against a single target opponent, as MA, you should just cycle through SK, CK, SK, CAK?
Is EC right out then on single targets? Since it has no AE value, should you even take it? -
Hello.
I have been out of CoH land playing WoW for a spell, and am coming back. I have played on and off since Apr 28, 2004, so this part of my cycle I guess =)
I think I left around Issue 10-11. This was definitely before the introduction of WP.
My current main character is a 36 MA/Reg and I recall the "problems" in comparison to other sets were:
<ul type="square"> [*]Lackluster AE damage in an AE heavy game[*]Animation timing problems relative to other sets[*]Regen and the "big hit" weakness[/list]Where do we stand on those?
I am investigating sticking with the MA/Reg, or starting over with one of the more recently introduced sets.
Thanks for any insight! -
Sorry for being dense, I have been away from CoH for about a year.
Do they mean a second aesthetic choice, or that they are fixing the animation times?
I was under the impression, and this could be totally wrong, that MA had sort of screwed up animation times resulting in a dps loss relative to other scrappers. -
What Excel version is that format, it won't open in 2003.
If its 2007, I am reckoning that most people wont have that for a while.
Just a thought.
