Why is this the conceptual solution? Wouldn't it make more sense to make MELEE attacks, regardless of source, immune from range debuffing?

    [/ QUOTE ]

...or at least put a minimum range cap in place, even if that shortens melee range. IIRC, that's the fix that was put in place for the mob version of Hurricane in PvE.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, the fix discussed in this thread (making melee ATs immune to the range debuff) is the fix that was put in place for Hurricane in PvE. I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that this was somehow a PvP or primarily PvP fix, as it was implemented two issues before the arena.

After doing some testing in the arena with a friend, we came to the conclusion that a blaster's melee attacks (secondary or power pool) were being debuffed to zero. They would only go off if the two characters were actually in physical contact with each other, and the repel on Hurricane is strong enough that you can't do that without a power that resists repel such as Unstoppable. It's literally impossible for a non-melee AT to get a melee attack off against a character running Hurricane.

That's not crippling for him because he has ranged attacks in his primary. If a blaster can't Total Focus a defender, he can shoot the defender. If a brute can't Total Focus a defender, he can...what...wave Temporary Invulnerability at him?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey, I'm the blaster that helped Soy test. I'm pure melee so thats why I expressed concern about the situation. This may not be the time fo a discussion on the PvP side of hurricane but not adjusting for blasters just cause they have ranged attacks isn't a good enough excuse for me.

Alot of Melee AT's get ranged attacks to (fire breath, claws, spines, stone melee, super strength immediately spring to mind) and all of the CoH ones have access to ranged attacks with app's. As a blaster there is inherent risks going into melee (which is where we are being pushed to with toggle dropping powers) already, why make it worse by having a single power negate our secondary.

Tho agree with all the stuff about brute melee changes in regards to hurricane anyways.

  2. Worth mentioning that Dark Armour does get immobilization protection in Cloak of Darkness. Not to sure how my Fire/DA's gonna fair but he's loads of fun to play and seems pretty rare so far, mostly I see energy primaries and fire secondaries floating about.

Actually they did remove the glowie sound completely some months back, whether intentionally or not, and some point in the last few months it was put back in, as a different sound though. It was really annoying for the time that it was gone, though now that it's back I don't need it, being level 50 with no missions. But glad it's back.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gaaa. I can't imagine NOT having the sound (and it's actually location/direction sensitive) -- otherwise we'd never find the blasted things!

Especially with Dark Armor running. Blech.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heheh always made me chuckle when my friend had the same problem with the new glowy noise and I was like "Theres a glowy noise?!". I turned the sound fx down to 15% along time but seem to have a 6th sense of knowing where their gonna be hidden on the maps now.

Great journal tp and I look foward to reading more.

  5. Great thread Concern.

My advice is melee can be safe on occasion. Enemy melee attacks are slower than their ranged which gives me a chance to pop insps when needed and scrappers/tankers are more likely to aggro my target if it's still next to them. Standing next to the tank is almost suicide against large mobs with aoe. My place is dancing round the outskirts of melee taking out each target as fast as possible and if I need to take bosses on take them out of the main group with knockback and only if I know I can win.

All in all blasters are capable of wrecking almost any target with all the styles mentioned by all the posters.
  6. I'd drop someting in this for short circuit and have it six slotted by lvl 22 for end drain. It will hands down be more useful in keeping you alive than tough etc.

I've taken my all melee blaster to 46 and Short Circuit was unbelievably crucial. Lightning field is alright but I'd drop it for short circuit and consider testing it out later on when it'll be useful for keeping stuff at zero end.

I think you'll have a great deal of endurance problems running all those toggles even with six slotted stamina. My blaster only runs three toggles and I can run out of end in a few attack sequences when my conserve powers down. I know power sink will help but I don't think it'll be enough, you'll have to slot for some end reduction here and there.

Oh and I'd take six slot out of combat jump they only add 1% or so to your def per slot and it's just not worth it imo. I'm mixed over voltaic sentinel. In long fights sparky is a winner but a melee blaster needs to kill everything really fast so I've found sparky to be a waste just because he never gets enough attacks in for the amount of slots you have to invest in him. Oh and build up is golden I'd slide that in alot earlier if possible.

    Good luck

PS I don't have Thunderous blast and the sims sucks. No nukes for teh win.
  7. Just curious I guess but looking at your plan would a melee blaster be any use at all in a hami raid?
  8. Gratz on 50 Bluefan!

I've been taking a break from coh but just come back and started on my ice tank again so kinda keen to see what the thread was all about. It's really good to see so many positive suggestions and contributions from everyone involved and I only hope we get something done before the suggested changes go live.

I really loved the suggestion of dam debuff on CE and despite peoples hate for phased bad guys the suggestion for hibernate to be an aoe phase toggle was quite cool. As was the idea of hibernate being a res based click with a self hold/intangebility at the end as we freeze.

I'll keep an eye on the thread and hope some changes get considered and thanks again all the posters.

You must be the fifth ice tank I've heard of on victory Bluefan! If you ever want to team with an alt let me know! My global chat is @KidZero and I'm normally on as FlashThaw at the mo.

PS. Fought an ice tank the other day with may blaster and it was nasty but aim+buildup really messed the tanks def up and I four shotted him almost so we're not that indestructable thank god but chilling embrace is a nightmare!
  9. You can definetly run two separate burn patches in my experience tho I never bothered to see if they both stacked for damage

    The Kudos Thread

Aye Kudos to all the devs and people at NC soft/Cryptic for CoH and all the players and posters who supprt and make the CoH community so amazing
  11. your eps on phase shift is wrong. Don't know the number but its way way higher than 0.38 just though i''d let you know.
  12. It's great to see some of the regular faces chat about the high level diffrences in your builds like this Sucking up aside has anyone tried the electric mastery set at all? I'm only 35 at the moment but thunderous strike sounded like a good potential aoe to my build and the new energy res in charged armour sounded pretty special. I know i'd be losing power build up but power sink charges in a decent time from what i gather from blasters so may add the extra end drain to balance out the loss of power buildup and provide even more end. I'm probably gonna start the energy epp then respec into elec at 47 for power sink etc and try it as a alternate to stamina. Any thoughts from you guys would be greatly appreciated and cheers for the post to!

Any thoughts on adjusting phantasms knockback somehow to enable them to be more suited for illusion controllers to control with in team situations?
  14. This is awesome and I've been telling all my friends to read it to!
