  1. Welcome to City Of Heroes/City Of Villains!

Lots of good advice in this thread. The only things I have to add are:

    • Feel free to make use of VidiotMaps.com to see maps of the zones, or even print them out. You can also download a map overlay with information like the locations of Exploration Badges, what enemies spawn in each part of each zone, and at what level, and more.
    • Have you found a favorite AT (Archetype, like Scrapper or Defender, or the like) you like to play? Head to that AT's section of the forums. That's where you'll find the experts for those ATs, and they can answer just about any question you have.
    • As you've discovered, Player Questions is a great place for asking General questions. We're all more than happy to help.

And finally, the most important bit of information:

    Have fun!

Could have been worse. Could have been the lone Contaminated in RV, going for the Isolator badge.

Know someone who did it that way, and found someone else was also trying to do it, and they started with a rivalry, trying to get it before the other could. Then, they decided to team up, and both get credit for the kill.

The best part? They both got the badge days before Issue 11.
  3. Interesting bit of information here...

For Christamas, I got The Wife™ an internal card reader. Went to put it in her case, and found that her mobo didn't have a free USB connection thinger to hook it up to, and on top of that, the face for the case didn't have a removable part so that the card reader would be accessable.

So, we decided to put it into my PC, and replace my old one, since it can't read SDHC (or izzat HCSD?) cards. It didn't line up correctly to keep it from being pushed back into the case when I tried to use it.

While I was in there, I saw that, as usual, the guts of my compy were dusty. I used Q-Tips to clean off the fans, and since I had removed it to try to put in the new card reader, I also cleaned off my VidjaCard. Light layer of dust on the card, but lots on the card's fan.

Pop'd the card back in, rebooted, and the next time I logged in to the game, my combat lag was gone!

    tl;dr version
You might need to clean up the inside of your case, including the fans, and your video card. It sure can't hurt.
  4. It's a Known Issue. It came with the I16 Patch. IIRC, there's a fix in the works.

    Wait... that sounds wrong... >.>
  6. I noticed this recently myself. Ironwoman was the last badge I needed, and it said I had 5 of 7 badges. I was like, "Um... Huh?" I double checked, and triple checked, and that was the only badge I was missing. Once I earned it, though, BADGE EARNED!

  8. AFAIK, you can check all the characters at an AE Terminal (or via the ComLink) if you choose to make a new enemy group. I think that the versions in there are the same as the versions in normal missions, though I'm not 100% certain...

  10. Um... Oops. For some reason, I thought you meant opening the presents scattered around the zones. No idea why, since they don't grant any Inf directly.

Ooo! Izzat a Flashbackable mission? I'm guessing it's not, but it never hurts to ask!
  14. Well, since we're being complete here, let's not forget the Mystery Gift. Like rescuing citz while street sweeping, it's not lucrative, and on top of that, it's limited, but there it is.

    Joyful badge

    Congratulations!

I know what it's like to be missing a badge that's rather simple to get. I discovered last week that my Level 50 SS/WP Brute didn't get Jailbird. >.< Thank goodness for the Ouro Intro Arc!
  16. I asked about how to make the new settings as close to the old ones as possible, and this was the general consensus:

    Heroic/Villainous: +0/x1
    Tenacious/Malicious: +0/x2
    Rugged/Vicious: +1/x1
    Unyielding/Ruthless: +1/x2
    Invincible/Relentless: +2/x1

The Candy Keeper page, however, has the info for buying it with CCs and Inf.
  19. Nice video, as always. My favorite part was the To Do list.

However, the song still sucks. Not even your magic can change that.
  20. Lots of people use the G15, and there are even 3 different guides for them here on the forums:

Multiple Character G15 Macro Setup by Duck LOrange
G15 Ignore Spammer Macro Creation by Snow Globe

Only until Going Rogue. Then, the saying will be changed to, "There is no problem that throwing more Brutes at can't fix!".

  23. For me (and most people I've played with), the problem with the CoT isn't the faction itself, but rather the annoying cave maps missions with them spawn on. The Orenbega (sp) and Cake Room Of Doom!™ maps are, by far, the worst.

The best sets for dealing with the CoT Mez powers are Super Reflexes, Regenration, and Willpower.

Super Reflexes can dodge/evade the attacks that cause a Mez, and those that get through then have to contend with Practiced Brawler (though that only counters Knock, Disorent, Hold, Sleep, and Immobilize, and not Fear). Throw in Elude, and not much will touch you.

In the case of Willpower, it's one part Super Reflexes, one part Invulnerability, and one part Regeneration. If it doesn't dodge/evade a Mez, then it'll will just resist it with Indomitable Will.

Regeneration can't dodge/evade the Mez attacks, but it can resist them with Integration.

All three powers essentially make you immune to Knock effects, though if enough of them are stacked on you, they'll overcome the powers. Indomitable Will and Integration also essentially make you immune to other Mez effects, but again, if enough of them are stacked on you, they'll be overcome, and you'll be affected.

All three Secondary Sets are also good for dealing with the End Drain attack from Carnies. Super Reflexes and Willpower can dodge/evade it, and Willpower and Regeneration can have a high Recovery, so that the End Drain essentially becomes negligent. Especially if you take Quick Recovery, Stamina, and Physical Perfection. My Level 50 MA/Regen Scrapper has all three, with QR and Stam 3 slotted with Level 50 Common End Mod IOs, and Physical Perfection 6 slotted with 3 Level 50 Common End Mod IOs and 3 Level 50 Common Heal IOs. With Super Speed, Integration, Combat Jumping, Sprint, and Focused Accuracy all running, my End doesn't move much while I'm in combat.

All three Secondary Sets are pretty darned good at dealing with anything the game can throw at you. Super Reflexes can dodge/evade like nobody's business (though the game's Streakbreaker code will ensure that an attack will eventually hit you), and Regeneration can ignore the Mez attacks, and Regenerate and Recover everything else back. Willpower can dodge/evade, though not as well as Super Reflexes, and it can Regenerate... I'd say maybe just under Regeneration, though not by much, and it can Recover just as well as Regeneration.

I'm sure others will point out the sets I've left out, but that's OK. Those three sets are the ones I've had the most experiance with.

Any Controller should be able to face either faction with no problems. As long as you use your Holds and Immobilizes to lock down the foes with Mez attacks, you'll be good to go.

Defenders can help buff up the Defense and Resistance to the Mez effects, and in the case of Empathy (which Controllers also have access to), they can remove them with Clear Mind.

If you want to run in there and devestate the CoT or Carnies, I'd suggest either making a Scrapper with one of the three secondary sets I mentioned. If you want to hang back and support, I'd make a Defender, or a Controller. Of course, a Fire Control/Kinetics Controller can do a little of both.

    Naming Policy

Huh. I would have thought that, being a Signature Character, Valkyrie wouldn't be a name you could use. I guess that one slipped through.
