  1. And I'm the 6'2" guy in a kilt that won't be there...

And a great big thankyou to the Roleplayers at Galaxy Girl, without whom, I may well have never stayed in the game long enough to get this far.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And are also the reason it took you this long to get this far!

Well done Max! Despite out best efforts to ensnare you in eternal stasis...

    Is GG Dying?

All that's happening (as several others have said) is that GG is changing. Also as has been said, this has happened frequently before.

The point about everyone your character knows disappearing, I know all about... After the end of the 'RG Phase', Spear was left pretty much by himself. He just had to cope with the changing people.

There was something mentioned about when the people you know stop going somewhere, so do you... My reflection on this (which is based on RL experience) is that if they've gone away completely, you gotta just bite the bullet and make new friends because you're still there.

Perhaps it's my ambivalence towards taking part in plots that means I don't feel these changes quite so bad... Althought the 'Railroad Plot' phase was very hard for me due to being in something you had no choice over being in...

GG is always changing, you have to go with the flow... Or take a break for a few weeks and when you return it'll be a different creature once again.
  4. At the rate this is going, I'm going to be the only GGer that no other GGer has actually met in that thing they call 'Real Life™'...

I should either feel left out or privileged, I'm not sure which...

Alternatively there is flying, which involves getting to Edinburgh (Or Glasgow) Airport for 5am on Saturday! That would mean getting up at 3ish!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wonky - If I can get the days off from my work for this, I'll meet you in dundee, kick down your door, drag you sleeping from your bed and put you on the plane with me (and possibly others)

alternatively if i can persuade runt to go too, we'll pick you up on the drive down..

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Now I'm scared...

There are another couple of factors I have to take into account:

1 - The cost. Even with one night in Bristol it's in excess of £100 to fly. This will seriously deplete my "Going to Norway" Fund which must reach at least £300 by June.

2 - The general timing. I happen to have booked the 12th, 15th and 16th of work already. This is because my birthday is the 15th, so I would be looking at returning North on the 14th.

So I thank you for all the kind offers, but Bristol's just far too far and at the wrong time. Manchester however is possibly do-able...
  6. Why are these always in the south of England?

The total distance from my house to Bristol Temple Meads Station (which is apparently right next to the venue) is: 443.6 miles, or in metric: 713.9km. Estimated time to drive this (obeying the speed limits and not stopping) 8 hours and 58 minutes.

Alternatively there is flying, which involves getting to Edinburgh (Or Glasgow) Airport for 5am on Saturday! That would mean getting up at 3ish!
  7. Previously stated by me in a different thread...

Rule 1: RP shall be fun.
    Rule 2: You shouldn't Godmode.
Rule 3: Outside the 1st & 2nd Rules, there is no "right" way to RP.

As pointed out by Gideon, there is also the all important Rule 0: Don't be a *donkey*.

    Discuss...
  8. First Rule of CoX RP: It shall be fun.

Second Rule of CoX RP: You should not Godmode.

Third Rule of CoX RP: Outside the First and Second Rules, there shall be no "right" way.
  9. This has come to me mainly through incidents last night...

Fisrtly I was complimented for my use of typed accents. Which was nice.

There was also a player present playing a Russian, but the accent, as it was typed, appeared some times French, sometimes German. And it struck me that although a Russian accent is an easy one to do vocally, it's so much harder to type.

Really I'm just looking for people's views on if trying to emulate an accent in text is worthwhile doing. And also how certain accents might be approached.

As the Scotbots might approach enlivening you to add to this: "CmOAN! Git yir finger oot an mak wi' the typin, pal! Whit yiz a' waitin fir?"

The toughest thing in the world to play well is a normal, everyday person. Why do you think all the rubbish actors do action movies?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because they're actually half-alien demon robots?
  11. I decline to take any responsibility for this if no-one likes it!

Ummm. But I also want to take credit for it being my idea if it turns out to be a good thing...

Aha! I shall take all credit but no responsibility! Yes! Ha ha!

My goodness we talk a load of crap don't we?
  12. I was going to make sarcastic comment about the similarity to a quote from a certain free comic provided with the purchase of CoH, and that to actully spend all the time looking at your character's backside involves a very low camera angle thus limiting your ability to see enemies ahead, but I decided not to as people would undoubtably have taken offence.
  13. Trash Up-n-Away? We'll just force feed the salad to you! My fellow GGers can tell you that that is a most dangerous thing to happen...

For that, you get time traveling alternate dimension immortal catgirl kheldians!

Ouch! Can there be anything worse?

Well, technically, the whole of reality pauses for a tick

  16. No, not where you get the Chum badge. There's one down to the right of the exit from Fort Darwin and there's also one behind Fort Darwin.
  17. Woo! An idea of mine has been taken up!

Motivation for villains to go to an out of the way beach? Plotting, of course! Plotting!

Mind you, I have said I'm probably not going to RP in CoV... And seeing as I haven't played CoV since November...

EDIT: Ok, not exactly "taken up", but considered... It still gives me happy feeling! Or is that the gin...?

Here, most roleplayers I know are guys, and would never play a [censored] or female character.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If the censored bit is a 3 letter word meaning "brightly coloured" then I can say that I have done both!

Although some might say that playing the "brightly coloured" isn't as much a matter for me as it is for other guys...

Course, I've never played a stereotype, couldn't do the pink'n'mincing thing because I generally want to bludgeon that type of person into a small stain on the pavement. Stereotypes are a personal irritation...

To be honest, the personality played is moderately close to my own (just without my overbearing shyness towards objects of affection...)
  19. It relies on time passing from past to future, yes. But it rests on the basic fact that observation of an object in a quantum flux collapses the possibilities to one single outcome. Thus any action you take in the past is essential to make the world how it was when you observed it the moment you travelled back in time. Cause and Effect is irrelevant, only the outcome, which you already have seen and cannot change.
  20. Hello? Quantum nature of time! Paradox is impossible! If you can do something, it had to be done to allow history to reach the point where you travel back in time!
  21. You can't change history due to the quantum nature of time, apparently.

As you have seen the outcome of what came before, any action you take is essential for that outcome, and there's nowt you can do to change it. So even if you went back with the intention of killing Hitler in 1924, he'd survive as we already know he did.
  22. Hmmm. Right...

    Spear is 17,
    Blazebug is early 30's,
    Cajun is mid-late 20's,
Roxie is early 20's but somewhere about mid 40's for cynicism...
  23. Yes, RPing at GG does ignore the plot line and game design that tumbles from above, but I feel it's easier to side-step in CoH. Bypass CoH's tutorial and the game mechanics plonk you next to a superhero trainer and gives you a contact, but you don't have to go to the trainer or the contact. That's kinda the point I was making there...

I know that the Zig breakout etc. can be ignored should one so wish, but I was making specific reference to the idea put forward by Noir which did refer to these occurances, so I kinda thought the RP would probably be using these as a base from which to build on... I'm probably mistaken about that, but hey, c'est la vie.

It might indeed be a case that if you really want to RP you can put up with the irritation of the tutorial, could it not equally be that if you really want to RP, you can't be bothered having to do it every time? Different people have different opinions, you might fail to understand mine, but that doesn't make it any less relevant to me.

This veers far too close to turning into a debate on the "right" and "better" way to RP. Neither of these concepts exist, how one wishes to RP is personal preference. Mine does not involve doing the freakin' tutorial every time... That's just me. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean the possibility of RP in CoV, even GG-styley RP, is now dead and buried. By all means let the quest against the game mechanics continue!
  24. Just thought I'd point a slight error in wording of the thread title... "Role-Play Potential For All" then you say people should be at least level 10... Not exactly "for all" then really...

Small bit of pedantry, but I have to get my pedantic fix somehow...

Because I live in perpetual fear of being misinterpreted: This was intended in a spirit of light-heartedness, not in any way an attack on the poster's skills with the English language. I even used a smiley to illustrate this fact...
  25. Enough! Back to the matter in hand...

*drags the thread back on topic*

Having sat and had a wee think about things'n'stuff™, I think the possibility of a GG-styley meet on CoV is not really workable...

GG is total free-form, we can happily make alts that exist purely for RP purposes as non-supers. Quickly made, random powers, make 'em look purdy, into Galaxy City. No hassle. In CoV we don't really have the same liberty to do that as quickly and effectively due to having no choice but to go through the tutorial. Personally it annoys the hell out of me, I know it makes lots of sense in the long run of the overall story, blah blah blah... But it does rather limit the patience for making throwaway alts...

The RP that has been put forward by Noir fits in with the surrounding story of the game. (I'm going by the references to "Destined Ones", having needed to have escaped from the Zig, then proved yourself to Arachnos.) Which does kinda limit the free-form opportunies slightly, no? (By free-form I'm basically meaning in direct comparison to GG...)

Perhaps it might be the case that RP in CoV suits a different sort of player than the random free-form splatter that is GG in CoH... I would like to RP in CoV, but I don't feel any of my characters are of the particularly scheming, hand-rubbing, manical laughing stock out for revenge or wanting to take all the power and glory... (Plus I'm such an infrequent player it will take me some time to reach a level at which I can safely leave Mercy Island.)

Just my thought-through thoughts on the matter, reflecting personal opinions, and not slating anyone's choices of how, where, why, or what to RP. Or just a long-winded way of saying "RP in CoV? Not for me, guv."
