  1. Statesman, I believe your intentions are noble. However, high level minions do not appear to be alone in being blessed with new powers. Outcast minions now use Fire and Ice attacks and use heal other. If this stands it's going to promote more solo play where these minions are involved. More teammates equals more minions with Fire Bolt and Ice Blast, and more importantly Heal Other. This is dramatically more difficult to handle, especially considering low level heroes are the ones being called upon to handle them.
  2. Well they are addressing the stun/mez's and the +1 mobs.

However, my level 6 encountered a boss in the Hollows, "Electric Eel" who used Thunder Strike (lvl 18 power) and cast Lightning storm (lvl 32 power) and was surrounded by minions with Ice Blast and heal other. Talk about difficult. Even in a group he was hard because he was surround by more minions and Lts, all with special powers!

There is a fine line between being challenged and being frustrated/angered.

I never noticed the General hammond bit, either, but I'm not high enough to deal with the Portal Corp, yet. i did, however, immediately associate the CoT portals with the SG.

Ted Knight also played Henry Rush in the series "Too Close For Comfort", in which he had the occupation of cartoonist of "Cosmic Cow".

I enjoyed that show myself, but being 33 I guess my opinions are those of an "old man".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hehe, what I thought was most amusing was the writers/producers trying to peddle the Monroe character as a straight man when he was soooooooo gay that he was literally on fire
  5. Wow! Positively Positronic!

This is the 3rd post I've seen saying the same thing. It's not on the Dev Tracker, at least as far as I can tell it is not. Do you have a link or is this just a rumor?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was buried (at the end) of another post... I forget where. You'll just have to take my word for it. Or don't. That's also OK.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yureeka! I found it. You're right about it being buried. It was made by Gaffer, here is what he said at the bottom of a post...

PS: The initial scouts testing the defenses of Paragon City are rumored to be expecting reinforcements now that a reconaissance report has been made back through the portals...

if that's as much action as there was then that's pretty weak...if all the action was earlier, then all i can say is they need to do this for more than just a few hours. can anyone confirm? was yesterday it? and was the "real" activity only for a few hours?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I just saw a post from a dev that says the eyeballs we've been seeing are just scouts, and that they've reported back through the portal for reinforcements. So there is most likely a bigger invasion coming, with everything up to now just the teaser to let everyone know that a live event is coming.

By the way, the eyeballs are freaking cool. I got hosed yesterday because I got distracted by the way their irises open and close to shoot their death rays. Nice job.

  8. Hmmm, maybe if I finish all my work for today I can leave early....

Time to activate Hasten and get jiggy with it!
  9. What the? They're running the event during daytime work hours? Noooooooooooooooooooo

Please please please tell me it's going to run all day & night!

When making a game a developer will soon realize their vision of a game might not always be in line with the will of the players. A good developer will realize that it may be neccessary to sacrifice parts of that vision to keep the game in line with what the players have decided their vision of the game is. Developers who do not follow this path are ultimately going to turn away their own players and damage the game for everyone, developer and gamer alike, with the changes that follow in their attempt to force people to play as they had originaly invisioned so long ago.

    [/ QUOTE ]

5 stars. There MUST be a blend of Vision v.s. Balance v.s. Fun v.s. MONEY.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I disagree. A good developer won't be afraid to buck trends, metrics, or marketers. A good developer creates trends, new metrics, and markets.
  11. [ QUOTE ]

It might be better to set ego aside, look at how your players WANT to play the game (not at how YOU want them to play it), and build content/design around that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This statement highlights what is, IMO, one of the biggest dangers facing games today. Marketing.

Marketing is where games are not made based on the designers vision, but what the marketing departments think are sellable ideas. It's why "Sam & Max Hit the Road" was cancelled (no market for adventure games). It's why we don't see any more space sims (no market for space sims). It even reaches it's gullable hand into the design of parts of games. i.e. Too many puzzles in that level, current metrics are swinging away from puzzles.

The designer of Heroes of Might & Magic said that his greatest regret was listening to the marketers. Same is true with Richard Garriott (creator of the Ultima games).

Games are art, marketing has no place in them aside from trying to sell the games AFTER they are done.

So getting back to the quote. I say HECK NO! This is the designers vision, let him decide how it's to be done. That's not to say we should never post ideas, it's just the designer call to make the final decision about how something fits into his/their vision.
  12. I'm guessing it's either a GM event that will happen the day before Issue 2 goes live or the day that issue 2 goes live.

My guess is that it'll involve the CoT somehow.
  13. Awwww dang it. I wish I knew what day it was going to happen. I gotta pick one night this week to get caught up on chores and laundry. Grrrrr, guess I'll just have to leave CoH on in the background while I clean.
  14. Are you sure it's a puzzle and not Positron saying "Awww crap, there goes my chat again..."?

No offense to the British. I love the English, just not the food

    [/ QUOTE ]

umm i'm confused, since when does British mean English, there are 3 other countries in Britain you know and us other countries tend to find being called english insulting sorta like calling some 1 from U.S.A canadian or vice versa.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ummm, are you serious? I thought I was just mentioning a ditty for fun, about English food. I think it's more akin to referring to a Californian as an American. Which shouldn't be a big deal at all.
  16. Perhaps not. Statesman posted another tid bit on the subject while discussing appropriate acts of heroism (vs the endless portal spawn exploit). He said, and I'm paraphrasing, that heroes have a responsibility to act heroicly. His is the second quote below:

Shouldn't you have to stand next to the French flag to get the "freedom" badge? Or maybe we could just get Freedom Fries at City of Gyros.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm. This makes sense because if it wasn't for the French, we'd all be speaking with English accents, and enjoying a big plate of Bangers & Mash with a frothy mug of warm beer. mmmm good

    Edit Note:
No offense to the British. I love the English, just not the food
  18. Hey they adopted my idea about the badge. Cool

I'm sure they thought of it long before my post. Just don't tell my ego, it likes being delusional

Can someone tell me what powerlevelers are cheating you anti-powerlevelers out of?

Something material? Something other than your warped sense of morals and ideals?

    ~ A A ~

    [/ QUOTE ]

This question has come up numerous times in numerous ways.

The answer is so easy it must be eluding the questioners. Kind of like when you lose your glasses but they're right their on your head, or when you lose your keys but they're on the dresser in plain site the whole time.

    The answer is:

You don't have to be affected by something to care about it. Period. It's terribly simple, isn't it?

I'd wager that there are a plethora of issues, quirks, or happenings in life that don't affect you but that you care about...

    Here's my stance...

It's the developers job to ensure that fun play equals a reward.

It's not fun if you level up by doing nothing. Now, there will always be an element of this - but in general, spawns are based on team size. Which means that an extra person on your team that is not contributing anything to the battle is a severe detriment. BUT our high level game is a little too easy - which means that high level characters can team up with low level characters - go out and do missions/street sweep - with a high degree of success.

But we are going to be ratcheting up the difficulty of higher levels, meaning that someone trying to "power level" someone will find it more challenging. If someone wants to do that, bravo, but I think we'll see the issue resolve itself....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Some people will always have much better builds and tactics, Stateman. You can correct AT balance issues with changes to the difficulty - like making things tougher so they last long enough for tankers and controllers to matter - but if you make the game so hard to deter PLing, you'll also deter weaker players.

It'd be a good idea to simply have a range requirement on xp gains, so you can't be across an area soaking up xp; that means you have to be at the keyboard to group up and gain xp, even if you're staying out of harms way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It also means that patrol missions will suffer, "normal" hunting groups will suffer, and heroes who split up to tackle a large mission map will suffer. Reducing range will hurt vastly more players than the number of PL'er that it will "fix".
  21. It seems to me that Statesman has satisfied both sides.

    A. He said they are actively trying to discourage it by making it harder

    B. He didn't call it cheating and said if it's what floats your boat, then go ahead (paraphrasing)
  22. [ QUOTE ]
i think that each individual is paying for his her own account. and should be able to do wtf he she wants to do. and as long as it doesnt hurt you, you should but the f* out!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nice language there. You need to seriously calm down and show a lot more respect.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
This is one reason why I cant wait for Middle Earth Online. Leveling is 'REAL' time. Now dont grind to level. You dont exp per kill. You sepnd your time exploring the game and doing adventurous things. Unfortunately, there will probably be time sinks some other way. In my opinion I would have to say ALL MMOs are not fun to play. Some things in the game are fun to do, but after the novelty of doing certain things has worn off, they become repetitive and boring. Then the new things you run into is more of the same with just different skins or more hitpoints. There isnt enough adventure, boss encounters, etc - there is too much exp farming, time sink, and repetitive play in MMOs. Thats why people power level, thats why they pay to have others level them (check online services), thats why they use Ebay to by already maxed out characters. The "journey" is too boring, too slow. And yep I know, some of you out there have a real good knack for RPing and have good friends who make up for what the game lacks and you still find it fun - all you need is a graphic world and some buttons to mash and you will fill in the rest.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Personally I like leveling but I would be happier with a skill point system. I think GURPS Supers, Champions and even Fallout did great jobs at representing that kind of system. I hear that's what CoH was originally and it didn't work because it was too easy to gimp a hero. I think that's a shame...
  24. [ QUOTE ]
no im just tired of the "fact" being stated that there is no work being done....i have posted that once and people are still saying"i have a problem with blah blah blah" when the majority that get pl'ed and pl do what i said...they pl each others alts. Not sensitive just tired of the lies.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't mean this to sound nearly as cruel as it's going to sound, but...Isn't that a little arrogant on your part? Yours is not the final word on the subject. When you speak (er post), it's not time for everyone to fall into line behind you...
  25. [ QUOTE ]
DANGIT....im going to post this one more [censored] time.....you say its not right that they camp there getting xp. Well when someone PL's you its MOSTLY a SG member or a friend of yours. When they roll and ALT you have to do the same thing. So actually you DO work i know it is hard for you to believe now shut the [censored] up. You have not provided any good evidence that power leveling is cheating. It is a way to get by the low levels but its not a way to get 50 in one hour by expoiting the system. You still have to do work when getting powerleveled so quit saying that PL'ers do nothing....i have to do my part jsut like my buddys do theres. Like i said get some strong evidence other than comparing it to crimes, and saying its wrong.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow, overly sensitive much? If this issue is causing you that much pain I suggest you stop reading the thread.
