Honestly, not everyone is running AE all the time either. My SG stuck to Borea mishes because AE lag was usually worse. And with as many people who complain about AE on the forums, I'm surprised they have so much trouble finding themselves in game, to run other content together.
And let's step back and think about this. You're (this is the general "you") complaining about how people are gaining too much xp on a weekend entirely based on gaining uber xp. Next time around, try making double xp plans with SG mates for TFs and story arcs. This way you can enjoy it the way you like. Just like all those dirty AE players.
On this double xp I got inside the AE 3 times:
Two where to finish getting the last few xp points (around 2 bars) on two toons.
One to join a friend on regular arcs.
Other than that...
1 Doc 1/4.
3 ITFs.
1 Sister Psy.
1 Barracuda.
A few radios.
1 cape mission.
2 Introduction to Cimerora.
At the same time I was invited to 2 Saras, 1 Justin and two LGTF.
There was also the traditional raids... -

Double xp is a little switch. Used two-three times per year, and it affects the whole game. Coding it for separating the source would be a nightmare-bug filled hell. Its just not productive.
And for those crying to stop MA from functioning... Come on... get a life. This is tiresome. Move over. Play and stop trying to control the others. Run your own teams. There is no shortage of people to play with. -

Its plain and simple.
Double xp is a switch. A very small piece of code, to be used only 2-3 times per year.
Making it not function on Ae will be contraproducent. It would need a lot of programming, and it would open space for much more bugs and problems than needed.
I much like want the devs working on something that goes year-round.
