This had my eyebrows levitating about 3 feet above my forehead. I remember when this idea was floated, and it seemed like one of those things in the "yeah maybe one day who knows" not-even-Soon(tm) projects.
As a wise man once said,
"Daaaaaaaaayumn!"
P.S. Is CoV about to be swarmed under by Demon McDarkypants scrappers? Stay Tuned! XD -
Thanks for your touchy overreaction. I leave you with this:
LIGHTEN THE HELL UP.
Geez.
(did you even read the link...? i wasn't even thinking of furries, you insensitive clod!) -

New Orleans animal toons are redside-only, i guess... -
As of 8:15pm EST the store is still b0rked. Won't load, can't get in. Will leave the poor hamsters alone 'til tomorrow i guess.
This may be the answer to the hat i wanted in my sig, or at least close enoughCan't wait to see!
Oh hey, it finally loaded while i was trying this.
First complete costume is very Van Helsing of course. Nice, Jay.

There's always a "caught up in events" theme to play with. A progression that neither the player nor the contact anticipates; no matter how bad you are, some days you're just glad to come out intact, with no one's Master Plan furthered.
Then there's seeking knowledge. Information, secrets, arcane tomes, scientific theories, someone else's plans for next Tuesday... doesn't always have to be concrete or tangible.
Role reversal is always fun... force a choice against type. I remember discussing on test the only way to make a branch right now is to use the last mish in an arc with a failable goal, and Success is written as Outcome A and Failure is written as Outcome B, instead of "you failed in the task i set you!" -
Jake and Esh both have a point. The pvp events you describe would be brilliant, too.
Yeah, sometimes i respond in incendiary mode to someone being a git in chan, tho it really gets me nothing. Sometimes, recognizing that someone's probably just frustrated and lolztyping when they should chill a second helps deal with them or calm them down.
Of course, sometimes they just turn out to be a git. Don't let it get to you, or stop you from talking to the next guy, i guess is all i can hope to remember.

You speak like there was never, ever, ever any events run to introduce people to PvP. Hell, on Triumph, I was one of the more disliked people, and I still took an entire friday night along with Ohmzy to teach two new people to PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
You speak like many people on a forum do - including myself - when they feel strongly about something: respond to a general observation with "That doesn't apply to me, so i am offended and/or your point is invalid!"
Which is all part of my point. Less impassioned reflex responses, more thought.
edit: hmm, i seem to follow the slax method of pvp, tho i'd be willing to bet his powerset / enh choices are more informed than mine -
Most people will probably refer to the Rouge Isles anyway, blissfully unaware of the fliter bullet they dodged >

Hello. As long as someone /necromancied this thread... a quick comment.
There's the usual STFO or GTFO being thrown around here and there, but there's something I don't get. All the focus seems to be on what the OTHER SIDE is doing.
They're the enemy. They're going to be jerks. Even if they're not really jerks, when they see an easy kill they will think "1 2 5 5 3" or whatever their chain is... NOT "hmm, maybe this guy is new and i shouldn't gank him 6 times in a row, cause that really get me noth-" cause by this time in the thought, the thinker himself has been ganked.
What i don't see, and what i have been waiting to see, is people addressing the behaviour of THEIR OWN side.
It's pretty common for a premade, even with space avail, not to invite any "noobs" to the team, leaving a new person wandering around confuzzled. It's pretty UNcommon for anyone to spend a second to give advice, or a warning, or even much of a friendly hello, to people they don't know. The "uber pvpers" are a hardened, bitter lot at this point, and the pvers are pretty dismissive and defensive. Very little communication is happening.
If you want pvp to improve, teach people how to do it. Not your SGmates, not your RL friends; maybe the guy who just got ganked 3 times in a row is a good place to start. Offer some advice.
And i mean ADVICE, not "lol noob nice gimped toon go back to pve," ffs.
Maybe then you will actually see some improvement.
As for worrying about how the other side behaves...? Fugeddaboudit. Take care of your own... on both sides. And things might get better. And more people might be interested. And you might even *gasp* meet a couple cool people. It could happen.... -

This seems like a decent place to ask: any idea what is wrong with using the word "amalgam" as part of a creature name?
Edit: Wikipedia to the . . . rescue? Apparently there is a marvel character by that name. I'd never heard of her, unsurprisingly since as far as I can tell she showed up in only one issue.

Well, there goes my idea for a dentist AV.
edit: y'know, i have generally been sympathetic to individuals or organizations, large or small, who want to retain some control over their creations.
But after reading this thread, i have decided that litigation and IP hooliganism are completely out of control, people(tm) who want(r) to legally protect(C) every damn sound and sight should be relegated to the lowest circle of hell, and Shakespeare was right about lawyers after all. -

Ya but its pretty and makes people think the game is actually a real mmo.

Oh. Kind of like quick snarky useless comments designed to make people think the poster is actually clever? Can i try too? Oh wait, i just did! Never mind, this is kinda fun. -
Oh very nice. 2 Quick things:
1) The intro flash is nice, but way short. More importantly, when it ends, there's an ugly plain black box there. Maybe a stillshot or even the logo would be a better final frame.
2) ok how can we make our characters walk, like in the slowmo sidewalk scene? Never seen anyone walking. Or is that a devtoy? -
Am also seeing one spirit per 60 - 90 minutes of high-speed door farming. Team size makes no difference, tried combos from solo to full.
Getting all the badges in X time, and then endlessly grinding over and over with nothing new to get this last badge... it gets old fast. Also makes it extremely unpleasant to contemplate doing this on multiple toons.

Thanks for letting us know you haven't all collapsed yet
Booster pack timing seems awfully convenient. The power in the 'borg pack is just so we can express our impatience graphically, right? No need to blow up on the forums any more! Ranting excessively in Broadcast also triggers it, yeh? Can I choose Daffy Duck as my patron?
Sounds like some major retooling is going on. Intensely curious. Hope y'all have one or two things nailed down soon we can look at, and good luck. You guys have pulled off a lot in the face of an implosion that would have wiped out many companies.
PS, sorry, but obligatory Real Genius quote:

edit: first yay!but bad news boo
Edit again: yeah duh didn't really read the error. it's there if you get rid of the extraneous -/ (or /-, i suppose, in a half-empty half-full sorta way).
Last edit i swear: long as i'm here i guess i'll be useful and Fix the link -
Greetings and Salutations.
Name: Kabuki-mono (kah BOO key MOE no).
Currently Recruiting: Yep, we're open for business. Bran-spanking-this-week new, although as you can see <-- i'm not quite a new player: recently returned from a long break.
RP Level: This will be an RP group. Mechanics are easy to learn; i don't care about your experience in the game, it's attitude i'm looking for. If your ideas on this are "rplol wtb PL" we'll probably be happier not talking to each other.
Theme/Concept: Kabuki-mono or "Mad Ones" were colorful, flamboyant, and deadly Samurai who were generally Not Quite Right in the Head. Some portion of the modern Yakuza may trace back to them, and this VG is based on the idea that with the Family, the Mooks, Arachnos, and those damned Tsoo running around, the Yakuza aren't getting their due.
tl;dr screw these Tsoo upstarts, we're kicking it old school.
Activity: I'm EST latenight but work randomly. I'm frequently on in bursts (every night for a week) then you might not see me for 3-5 days. I'm looking for other players, at least at first, who won't mind this. If you've been soloing, thinking of a concept like this, not really wanting to make your own VG, have a toon that fits this idea or would have fun with it, and are a generally chill person, then we should talk.
Requirements for Membership: An IQ greater than that of a carrot. While i will not be enforcing 24/7 RP (just not practical in a starting group anyway), I am going to ask for a basic competency in English. We need to communicate, after all... I will also be hoping for people who join up early on and stick with it to become offficer-types, so I'd like those officer-types to be into RP and at least mildly well-spoken.
Leadership: Kageshi Daishi is Oyabun. There's a Soldier (the organized crime sort, not a SoA) named Enarr Ehy who can sign you up as well.
In-Game Contact(s): Global @neme.sys1
Out-of-Game Contact(s): PM me here if y'want.
No website or such yet. If we actually get membership, i'll do something about that.
Coalition(s): None yet. Feel free to contact me about it, tho!
Other Details:
The only requirements I'm really sticking to beyond all others is "don't be a jerk." Oh, we're a VG, be a jerk IC if you want. Make fun of the lunatics and spammers in broadcast, even, within reason. But no RL jerkosity. No spammers, chronic blind-inviters, Broadcast chan hate spewers, racists, homophobes, or Godmoders (nothing kills it faster than RP driven by insecurity). No inviting randoms to the VG just to boost numbers. Don't have to be RPFascist when teaming with others, but represent us well.
I'm looking for maturity - not age. I'm hoping for RP enthusiasts - not experts. I'm REALLY hoping for original toon concepts and personalities, or classic archtypes with a twist.
You DO NOT have to have an asian origin for this. I'm hoping we'll have a lot of them, of course. But if you have an idea why you'd end up soldiering for a Yakuza family, I wanna hear it.
Thanks for reading this book. Yes, i'm being demanding: but for those of us who join, I want us all to have a fun experience in an environment we're proud of making, that being the point of any game. If we grow, we'll grow slow, so be prepared for that too. What you get out of it is being in on the ground floor of, hopefully, a mature and stable group with a base and some folks to hang out / BS around / team / SF / chill in the base with, and we'll see what we can work towards. -
by the by, this was important when i started and is probably still true now:
yeah, sometimes it doesn't work when it should. BUT, something i see that trips people up is TIMING IS VERY IMPORTANT. If you try hitting a Plac when your target is in the middle of an attack animation, your plac will go off very fast, then you will get smacked by the attack in progress, and you will instantly be visible again and further subject to smacking.
During the Rikti event so far i have been able to placate in the middle of the mob to my heart's content with rare exception, largely because the target is not hitting me. The target is frequently under all sorts of other effects, but since it was otherwise occupied, a quick plac->AS goes off before it can do anything about it.
Solo, watch timing on the target's attacks. A good thing to do is GD or SD or even ASup - anything with knockdown or knockup. This greatly minimizes the chance of you getting hit with anything before the AS goes off. Buildup, <knockup>, plac, AS, laugh.
This isn't a "well this should work lol" suggestion, this is something I do all the time. -
nin/nin here: plac works if absolutely nothing else is going on, basically. i'm considering speccing out of it until it's fixed tbh. At the moment it's basically a wasted slot: when it's needed, it fails. When it functions, it's only good for comedic value.
Of course i'm all in favor of comedic value, so maybe i'll keep it. better yet, tho, FICKS NAO PLZ. -
