  2. Great guide! I was going to write one on this same subject myself, but you have done a better job than I could have. I would like to mention a few things that have helped me in the past while leading teams though -

1 - I cant stress enough the importance of recruiting a balanced team. I try to recruit within two levels of myself up or down. I also attempt to find one of each archetype. This may not be completely necesary, but it has never hurt me. Besides I feel bad for Tanks, so I like to make sure I always have at least one.

2 - If you find that you are leading teams more than you are joining, then I would suggest rolling up a toon for the sole purpose of leading. I rolled up a Kin/Rad Defender. Not only am I a buff machine, but everytime I hit with a RAD power, I'm taking down an enemy's defense. Add leadership abilities to this and you are going to be a huge asset to your team.

3 - Keep moving! Not only should you have a plan before you begin recruiting, you have got to keep your team moving. I personaly feel as if it is easier to keep a team moving if you are just hunting instead of doing door missions, but thats just my personal taste. The main reason to keep a team moving though is so that it stays together. Once your team is split up or standing still it will quickly begin to dissolve.
  3. Ok so if it's not here in Austin (a kick *** town by the way) Las Vegas would be my next choice. However, if I catch any of you guys wearing capes, I'm going to point and laugh.

    VEGAS BABY!
  4. OK and if we have it Austin you can all crash at my place as long as you sneak in quietly and don't alert the wife.
  5. EXCUSE ME!!!!!

NCSoft is in Austin (so am I) I think it would only make sense to hold it in Austin. Besides after the day stuff was over we could all hit the warehouse district or 6th street and party like Rock Stars!

  6. Well, I'm here and it's a mess. Good old Terra Firma. Earth. Home sweet home. It's rough here and honestly I'm not sure what kind of a difference I or any can make at this point. The people here in Paragon are doing their best to get on with things since the Rikti invasion, but everyone knows we're in trouble. Most of my time here has been devoted to just patrolling the streets. You can't throw a rock without hitting some new hero doing everything they can to keep this city safe, but for every one of them there are at least another ten, gang members or evil robots, or who knows whats next.

On a lighter more personal note, the suit is busted. When I got here the anti-grav unti was useless. I just rigged it to hover and I am sory to report it is slow. Hopefully I can work this out soon and actually fly again. Although, having run every square inch of Atlas Park and King's Row, I can tell you I'm in great shape. Not to mention the fact that I am finally back to normal gravity.

I'll try to send another report soon, but I have just been assigned duties in Perez Park, and by the looks of things, I may be stuck there for a while.

It is good to be home though.

    Kill-Shot.
  7. I'm not completely sure how this would work, but here's the gist of my idea. An SG where leadership rotates based on how much influence you have, not level or founder. The characters would have to be some sort of power hungry mafia family or rulers of some sort. Think, Nine princes of Amber, Godfather, any setting where people are tied to eachother, yet are always schemeing and vying for power.

So once a month, we have a leadership (Counsel, Family etc.) meeting. Someone of a lower level checks everyone's influence in the trade menu and the new leader is determined.

Of course there should be rewards for becoming leader and requirements (tribue?) to become an officer (Capo, prince, duke, champion, etc.)

The logistics can all be worked out, such as one night a week mandatory meeting, what server do we want (Virtue?), what the RP setting is etc. If you think there is any potential in this idea, please respond with suggestions.

One more thing though, I think it would be imperative that we all roll up new characters and start from scratch. First one to level ten forms group (Althogh we should already decide on a name well before hand) and is our first leader.

Thanks for any help you might provide.
  8. "Is he ready?"
    "Does it matter?"
The two men stood over the swirling dimensional portal in the floor of their tower.
"The boy Jason, has been with us for ten years of his time. All of the power he will ever need has been implanted inside of him. His body sleeps in the material world yet here we have trained our Prophet."
"But time sir," the younger, weaker of the two pleaded. "Yes the knowledge is there, but he is still at heart a boy and if we send him back now, there is no telling how long it will be until he manifests."
"Silence!" the older demanded. "Do you think me unaware? Fool. Jason must become Jai now or all will be lost. Paragon City is no small place to be tossed aside. Everything depends on the survival of Paragon City."
The older man took a breath and walked away from the portal. It's not enough to send another hero. Paragon already has heros and their numbers grow daily. Paragon City needs someone to warn them of the coming dangers. In less than two years that city will be over run by hordes of evil doers that make the current crop look like typical street thugs. Not only that many of these so called heros, will turn to these dark ambitions as well. He must be sent back now. There is no more time. Get the boy."

Jason was led down the long corridor, into the Masters chambers. Jason was no longer just a boy. It had been ten years since he had been "summoned" to this place and since then he had learned of power and how to call it and use it. Magic. Once inside the chamber the door was shut behind him and they were alone. Student and Master.
"Tell me Jason, why did we bring you here?"
"To teach me the magical arts in preperation for what is to come."
    "What is to come then?"
"I don't know sir." Jason lowered his head and looked at his feet.
"Of course you don't. Come with me." The Master rose from his chair and walked to a window. Outside they could see the tower stretching down into the center of a volcano. In the air, frightening creatures flew here and there nipping and biting at each other.
"Look Jason, there is nothing here, but this tower. This entire plane of existence has been created for one purpose. You. We are here to ready you for what you will have to face and the responsibilities we are giving you."
Jason looked out and knew this to be true.
"Most young people from your home would shirk these duties. They would curl up frightened, not you though. You sought us out first as was written in the prophecey. At this moment you are Jason, Soon you will join with Jai and go home to begin your quest."
Jason felt his heart leap a bit. Home.
"Things are different there now. The Ritki invasion has left the world paralyzed and evil lurks everywhere.
    "I know sir."
"Good, then tell me your purpose."
"I am to prepare the world for what is to come. The great evil that will begin to overtake everything. I am to teach those weaker than myself. A ministry of Jai." Jason took a long breath before his next sentence.
"Then when the time comes, I am to die so that others may live."
The old man looked into Jason's heart. He knew then that he was ready.
"It is a heavy burden, but in the blink of an eye it will all be over and you will sit in the halls of the Magi at the right hand of the true Jai. Take heart."
The two stood together for a moment. In a different time a different dimension, they may have hugged.
"Now go boy, and prepare yourself for the ceremony. The time is now."

    The long sleep

They said he was in a coma, and to those who didn't know what to look for, it seemed just so. I knew different though. That kid had been coming into my Magic shop for years. Ten years old and he was telling me which books were real and which were phoney. At least he didn't tell the other customers. Either way I thought he was out of his mind when he informed me he had found a copy of the "Book of Jai". I laughed at him first, becasue... well it just semed ludicrous this kid telling me he had found one of the four left in existance. I knew he had though. It was that look. He could look at you through his ten year old eyes like he was a hundred years old. God only knows how bad he freaked his folks out.

I warned him not to fool around with that book. It was to much for him. Hell it was to much for anyone. He wouldn't listen though. I wonder if I would have listened if I had been the one to find it. A few days after he told me about his discovery, I read in our small town paper that he was ina coma. No one knew why, or what had happened to him. His mother found him at his desk sleeping on top of a book, as usual, but this time he wouldn't wake up. At first she just put him in bed, thinking he had pushed himself to far. After a day though, he still didn't wake up. He didn't wake up the next day either, or the next. For ten years that kid slept.

I went to visit him in the hospital once. No one else was there. I mumbled a few incantations and knew that I was treading into some deep stuff. I was knocked backwards out of my chair and onto the floor. I knew instinctively he wasn't the one who did it either. I also knew that I was way out of my league.

Everyone pretty much gave up on him except for his poor mom. His dad left town for Vegas and then it was just her and a comatose son. Then, ten years to the day he went under, he woke up. His hair had changed from black to red and he was now a full grown adult. This made the paper too.

I wanted to go visit him, but something inside me knew he would come to me. When he did show up he didn't say a lot. He asked me where I was during the invasion and how my family was. Small talk really. Thing is, he was an adult. He had been somewhere and matured. I could feel the inherent power within him. I didn't say anything, when he said, "It's in there. I just have to figure out how to use it."

I asked, "Where were you?" He smiled and shook his head. "You would be the only one to believe me, but I can't tell you. Not yet." We split a coke and laughed at a few of the Wiccan teenagers buying candles.

"I'm going to Parragon," he told me just before he left. "It's all gonna happen there." I haven't seen him since, but word is he's out there doing what they all do. I never asked him what happened to that book either. It's best that I don't know. Not yet anyway.
