Warning: Detecting point of 0 credibility.
[ QUOTE ][*] Add a TF for SKULS.
[/ QUOTE ]
You just lost all the credibility you built up in the previous paragraphs with this one...
[/ QUOTE ]
That was my attempt at humor. I can't help it if you chose to not find it funny. =P ...but assuming I were serious with that particular comment, if you don't find beating up skulls fun, then I cannot fathom why you play this game.
GO. HUNT. KILL SKULS! -
[ QUOTE ]
*Nods* Right. The problem is, our view is limited to what we ourselves play. The blasters only see what is good or bad for them, scrappers only see what is good or bad for them, and so on. The Dev's, however, have to figure out what is best for the entire playerbase.
[/ QUOTE ]
And yet these very same devs cannot recognize the difference in a +7 minion and a +0 with extra hit points in a demo video that they filmed. Based on that stellar display of their omniscient point of view, do you actually think they have more knowledge of the game than their player base? In case it's not obvious, I don't.
[ QUOTE ]
So, where for us the solution seems simple (Take the -ACC off of fly), for the Dev's it's not (If we take the -ACC off, how will it effect all the AT's compared to just adding a -ACC to SJ and SS?).
[/ QUOTE ]
You're right. Removing the debuff from fly would make fliers happy and might let a few people spec out of hover and take AS instead. What a travesty that would be. No, far better to institude yet another nerf and piss off part of the player base again.
Sure, the devs can't please all the people all the time, but they could flippin try. -
Houston, we have a problem.
There has been a pattern of dev changes to this game in recent months, and until I spoke with a friend about it last night I really could not put my finger on it. Around every couple of weeks we get news of changes made or changes in the works, and each time this happens the things that detract from my enjoyment of the game always outweigh those that enhance it. Some of these have been nerfs to powers that I use, some have been nerfs to powers my friends have, and some have been more general game changes. I will touch on a few specifically.
Foremost in my mind we have the scrapper scrutiny that's going on right now. This process could have been good for the players. The devs could have performed their tests, gotten a baseline, noticed that dark armor is underpowered, invul is strongest (according to their criteria), and that super reflexes needs some help outside of the perma-elude build, and moved on from there. Instead, they chose to start this process by nerfing a balanced set, and then nerfing the weakest set... both before doing any structured published testing. The devs chose to do nothing to enhance the enjoyment of dark armor players and instead chose to make them and regeners go through another miserable round of nerfage.
Then we have the changing of content that people enjoy... the high level wolf missions, specifically. Again, the devs did things backwards. They could have offered us new content (maybe luring some players away from repeated wolf farming), but instead chose to remove content. Not only that, we had to put up with facist accusations that players who farmed wolf missions were not having any fun. Last time I checked this was a computer GAME. The whole point is to have fun. If players did not find wolf herding fun, they would not do it. There were some players who did not enjoy playing the game that way and did not participate. There were some that did enjoy it. The devs did nothing to enhance the enjoyment of those players who did not wolf herd (except for a sadistic few elitists who were glad the missions were nerfed), and at the same time, they robbed players who did enjoy those missions of the option to repeat them.
Most recently I log in and hear (read, actually) chatter about accuracy debuffs being placed in Super Speed and Super Jump. On one hand I find this not a big deal, but then again, if it's not a big deal, why did they bother making such a drastic change this late in the life of those powers? Is it truly abusive to be accurate and mobile in combat at the same time? Do the high endurance costs of those powers not make up for that? Why could they not instead remove the -acc from Fly so that flyers can be mobile and accurate in combat without having to resort to complex bind sets or the increased button pushing and annoyance of making sure that your movement powers are toggled correctly. How, exactly does this help the game? From my point of view it doesn't, it is just annoying.
This is not my "I quit" letter, but I am a little upset in general about all the negative changes to the game that I love and play for 20+ hours each week. I'd like to log in and find that my heroes have become more heroic or have more opportunities to be heroic, not less. Can I get an Amen?
Just because I don't want to make a second post, here's my wish list for the devs:
[*] No more nerfs. Balance through power set improvement and mob difficulty adjustment. Yeah it's harder, it's also less aggravating. Make my weaker heroes more heroic, not my stronger ones less so.
[*] Allow the respec trials to be repeated for respec reward. Powers get changed every issue and between issues as well. Number of respecs is capped. That's not cool. Also, allow /respec command to work for all respecs.
[*] Stop imposing your ideals of what is fun and how the game should be played on your players. There are parallels to this behavior throughout history. One of them was named Hitler. Once a game like this is out of your studio and in the hands of thousands of players across the globe, it is unlikely to be exactly what you originally envisioned. It is no longer just your creation. It is influenced by every player who bothers to write a character background, make a post, or otherwise go beyond the mechanical grind of clicking icons. Let go. Let the game live as it will. (Sorry to go all hippy on you there.)
[*] Add a Dark Astoria Task Force... this is a really cool zone with little story support.
[*] Add a TF for SKULS.
[*] Give more details on flashback. Will I be able to go back to do TFs and trials that I missed and get the badges? Will I be able to finish old storylines and mission arcs from incomplete contacts?
[*] Make reward from monsters and AVs worth the bother of fighting them. -
[ QUOTE ]
Statesman I applaud your efforts. I know you are crazy busy and I appreciate the fact that you will take a good hard look at blasters for the future.
[/ QUOTE ]
You do realize that everything States takes a good hard look at get's put on the nerf block, right? Be careful what you wish for. -
It wasn't you that game me that impression, it was that other guy...
In any case, don't throw too much credit at my feet. I didn't participate in the creation of SoD. I wrote my own back when this thread first started, but they don't work nearly as well as Gnarly's do, so I use his instead. The only thing I have done is mod hisbinds for my peacebringer (I took a few compuer science courses in college, so I can navigate some code if I have to). Definitely give SoD 2.7 or 3.0 a try. And listen to MrEman... he seems to have been around this thread a few times. -
[ QUOTE ]
Interesting but I say use the KIS rule; Keep It Simple. Set up a bind to change between hover and fly and use the mouse for direction, space bar for going up. Set a bind to sprint and one to turn off hover/fly bind. Now you can fly anywhere you want even diagonal!
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I did that at one time. From a certain point of view, it's not simple. Instead of one key press to leave hover, fly somewhere, and return to hover, I have to press three keys. One is more simple than three. It's all a matter of preference. No one is trying to ram these binds down your throat. They are just here for you to try... and I do recommend that you try them. They made fly go from my least favorite travel power to the one I enjoy the most. (I too can fly diagonally.) My controller never touches the ground now... it's great. SoD isn't for everyone, and it's not perfect, but it is quite awesome.
BTW, I fixed that error message I was getting earlier. I somehow deleted a carraige return in my file, and didn't notice because notepad is not set to wrap text. It was a bind that never get's overwritten, so I never noticed an error in my controls. -
I have the latest ones, and a set modified for PeaceBringers. Get me in game @Junction Boy, and I can IM them to you. You'll need a BASIC compiler (I suggest Liberty Basic cause it's free). Gnarly's web site went offline literally hours after I downloaded the SoD set that I have, so I consider myself quite lucky.
-
I appreciate the post, but those files and command calls are not compatible with Gnarly's SoD system. I am not having any problems with SoD or anything fucntional. I just get that one script error when shifting out of nova and into human form. It doesn't affect my movement or power activation at all, just spams that window with error messages.
I have seen that error before when $$ separators were misplaced or when there were extra lines of space in a bind file, but neither applies to my files as far as I can tell.
Also, if you are unfamiliar with Gnarly's files, they are quite complex and go far beyond the two files that I posted. Those just handle my shapeshifting, deactivating SoD when going to squid form, and reactivating when I return to human.
Thanks again! -
Hey guys,
I have a question for you. I have modified the SoD files by Gnarly for use with my Peacebringer, and I use two other bind files to switch back and forth between human and Bright Nova forms. They seem to function just fine, but when I switch from nova into human, I get this error:

Usage:bind takes 2 args, you gave 4.

Can anyone tell me what I have done to generate that error? It may be a really dumb oversight, it is almost 3AM now.
Thanks in advance! -

Why, oh why, has Cryptic forced us to participate in lag-ridden slideshows of a huge jello mold in order to compete in the new feature of their game?
[/ QUOTE ]
On a related note: Why oh why are people who invest minimum amounts of time in the game (or just suck at it)worried about competing in the arena against those who play for 8+ hours a day and are good at what they do? Putting a limit on Hami-Os in the arena is somewhat akin to communism. Oh look at the lazy and unfortunate. They should have the same as everyone else... No thanks, I prefer capitalism. You have the same opportunity as everyone else. Take advantage of it... or don't. Your choice.
If you are level 45+ and are worried about getting spanked in the arena, stop. You played the game this long without PvP. You can still enjoy it without PvP. Winning at PvP is not eveything. PvP is not everything... just a small new feature we are getting sometime in the future. If you want an absolutely level playing field for PvP, go play Half-life 2. That's what FPSs were made for. At least there, you can scream "cheater!" when someone creams you instead of "elitist!" or "fotm!" or whatever... Just so you know, I usually take someone calling me elitist as a compliment =P
If you are level 45+ and complaining about not having any Hami-Os, go get some. Now, I only play on Justice, so have no frame of reference for other servers, but all you have to do there is keep tabs on the Hamidon global channel and show up. If you want to participate, follow directions; if you want to be a lazy mooching bum, just sit there and watch. You'll get a Hami-O either way.
If you are level 44 or less and complaining about Hami-Os at all... GO. HUNT. KILL SKULS! -

He's busy with Real Life[tm] at the moment, and actually away on a business trip, but he has offered to take a look at his binds once he gets back and maybe update them to use the the new toggleon toggleoff functionality - this will simplify them a lot, and should make them more robust too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Any updates on this? I have some limited experience with writing binds, but I have no idea what these toggleon/off commands are... never seen them before. Can someone point me to a place to read up on them? Gnarly's binds work pretty well for me, but if these toggle commands could fix the minor problems I experience, I would like to give them a try.
Also, I have a copy of the SOD bas file, and have modified it to generate Combat Flight/Energy Flight binds for Peacebringers. If anyone needs this, PM me with your email address, and I will send it to you. You will need a copy of Liberty Basic to run it, as I will not be sending a compiled version. -
Me and my one star rating are gonna chime in here and uneloquently say:
This stinks!
You (States) said just a few months ago that you don't care how fast people get to level 50. I believe it was during the interview for MMO radio. And let me point out one other group of facists who declared what was fun and unfun... they were calle Nazis. You already removed them from the game. Scared of the competition?
/gives states a raspberry
If you want people to go through your content instead of PLing, then you should add some more. I've already done all of it (save FBZ) once, most twice, and don't really care to do it again. I thought the Kheldian was gonna have some unique content, but so far it was just my first contact... rather skimpy.
