  1. Necro-post powers go!

I just finished the second piece of artwork for my May contest.... in November

    *shame*

But it's there and it's a kitty girl so I thought you'd all like to see it

  2. Finally stopped playing long enough to do a comic! I already have the pencils done for the next 1 and a half so good progress there. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it:

Summary: looks nice, but I think it's still not worth the $9.95 price tag.
I agree. Love the game, love the stuff, but I can't justify the cash. There are still several other packs I haven't bought because I either wait for a power that saves me time in the game and is useful to all my characters (ninja run, Self destruct, Mission tp) or birthday or Christmas money which I'll often spend on ones I'm missing (not my money after all).

They should have had costume change emotes and maybe a few more options per origin or such. As is, we're going to see a lot of people with the same "dress" on soon.

    1.The Baby New Year mission. It needs an update.Or a rewrite.Or a revamp.Something.Anything.Please.

2.We have Christmas themed costume pieces. We have presents we can share. We have this very neat little zone that opens up for a short time each year.Heck, we even have snowballs we can throw at each other.A lot of great stuff for sure.

So . . . .where are the decorations? We are at the 5 year marker (roughly) for bases in the game, and not one Christmas decoration for them.I am looking for a couple of different sized Christmas trees( 7-8 feet and 30 feet high or so with multi-colored lights), a big snowman . . . stuff like that.

Oh and a big Christmas tree in one of the zones.Huge.Maybe even make it on a new island in the Chalet.

Yes I know I am asking for a lot. Some of us are huge Christmas dorks.I happen to be one of them.
Most cities in RL put out lights and trees and wreaths and such. I think this is an AWESOME idea. I think every season should LOOK different than the others. It'd be cool if spring time all the trees were pink and white with flowers

    Different strokes, and all that.
Once again, must stand up for the EXTREMELY useful Self Destruction and Mission Teleporter powers. Even the Pocket D teleporter is useful (though less so now than when Ouroboros wasn't around).

More than anything, that's what made them cool. The obvious EFFORT that went into it. It felt special and man those were good times. My fondest event memory by far.

But when I was in high school, a friend named Greg Wadsworth self-published his own comic called Ismet, somewhat inspired by Cerebus I think. He published seven issues, and I read it of course, and I liked it. And I thought, "I wonder if there's anything else in comics worth reading?"

Initially this only lead me to becoming a big fan of Elfquest, and later I followed Cerebus as well. But after I graduated from high school I moved to a new town. I was a D&D gamer, but the group of friends I met in my new town played a Superhero RPG that one of them had created himself. (He wasn't fond of the couple of hero rpgs on the market at the time). I wasn't into superheroes, but I liked gaming so I wound up playing heroes quite a bit over the next few years, and even getting into hero comics a bit, although I gravitated more to the alternative/independent titles like Grimjack, Nexus, Badger.

When CoH was coming out, I was only mildly interested in it. I'd tried several online games by that point, but after several years in EQ I hadn't found one that really grabbed me. At the time I was actually playing Toontown, lol. I had made some good friends in the game; there were any number of adults that played the game, usually people who had kids which is how they'd discovered the game to start with. A bunch of them were kind of bored of it and for some reason latched onto City of Heroes as the cool new thing they wanted to do. Mostly these people weren't even the people in the game I considered close friends, but I kind of knew them, and when the game came out I picked it up that week.

I played for a bit over a year. I was really addicted, but about the time that CoV was ready to come out, I stopped. At the time I was convinced that I'd shaken off my MMO habit forever, and that I'd never go back. But more than a year later a friend in SL tried talking me into coming back. I said no, but then I got curious and installed the game again....

Dunno if that was the best or worst decision I ever made. My friend stopped playing almost immediately after that, but I'm still here!

Some people watch football and have fantasy leagues. I play CoH. To each their own. If you're concerned that you have an actual addiction, test it by setting reasonable limits of time/money and stick to them. If you can't, get help.

Occasionally there is a boss which needs to be focused on, in which case I press my attack macro (it leaves the drones in defensive follow, only ordering Assbot and Prots to attack (also leaving them in defensive, so when they lose aggro they will immediately fall back into bodyguard)). I also have a goto defensive bind that sends all my robots to a single spot, used for AV fights to keep them out of AoE range, but in BG and Triage Beacon range.
I don't control them too often to any degree, but I do like the "Go there, passive, stay" combo when I'm scouting around and don't want aggro magnets to follow. Or I can herd a room with a debuff and have a nasty surprise waiting for enemies around the corner

I also use the zombies attack that, knights attack that other one, lich attack a third a lot (when hunting lowbies for badges or whatever)

Sometimes there's a problem enemy sniping away at me and I want to distract them. I hit numpad2 then enter and my knights are all over them. Leaving the rest doing what they were doing.

It's just really useful to control them by group. I don't go so far as to control them individually. I've never thought that'd be useful.

We all know how to play with/cope without fitness on lowbies. If you have a lowbie you're excited about making/playing, why not do it and pretend inherent Fitness isn't coming? Then respec them when i19 hits?

That's what I'm doing, I don't want to hold off on having fun until that issue hits :P

    Christmas Gift

    So.... what're we gettin?

Let's talk about the past Christmas gifts starting with "YES THANK YOU WE LOVE YOU, NOT COMPLAING DEVS ARE GREAT"

Now that that's out of the way and hopefully that keeps people from calling us ungrateful just because we have an opinion about not liking one gift versus another.

    That said:

LOVED the free jetpacks for all. At the time it was great because I made a lot of new people that year. Now, I have almost no use for jetpacks since there are so many around.

LOVED the gifts all over with snow beasts protecting them. The surprise snowbeasts they changed it to is fine too. I have great gift memories, but wonder if we can't change it up a bit. Random field glowies is a neat gimmick though.

LOVED the free server transfers! Couldn't have come at a better time. I finally realized I was playing on one of the emptiest servers there was. I was able to salvage my best toons and collect them all together (well almost... I really hope we get this again so I can finish the job)

    Suggestions:

FREE Slot (or two). Maybe even have to do a mission to open it up?

FREE Transfer. Maybe a mission to do this too, but I could really use this

One free booster pack? I mean, server transfers are worth $10 each and they gave us unlimited free ones last year. I'd love to be able to choose that last pack that I previously ignored because I couldn't justify it. It would make it more appealing to others if they saw it more in game right?

Freeze all zones. I'd love to see people ice-skating in the lamplight of Perez Park. That's not a traditional gift per-se, but I would love it

Anyone else have comments or ideas?

I've not had a single purple drop in over 6 months. Maybe I'm not playing enough 50 content, but I am playing with my 50's. Must we fight 47 and up to get them? What's wrong with allowing them to drop when exemped? After all, it's harder to fight at lower levels anyway.

Here's an idea that I'll share. I have a stone/fire brute that uses rock costume pieces with coloring that makes it look like smoldering coals. Along with fire shields and such, he's a flaming rock monster

(I have no picture at this time.... very sorry )

Oh yes! It's game changing. I used to have Super Speed on some characters ONLY for the stealth. With it gone, I was able to drop TWO powers and get others from my primary. I guess that's the same thing I'll get with free fitness pool coming soon

It's a joyus thing. Here's the results of my test if you're interested:

Because of all the changes (for the good ) I'm definitely not worrying about slotting carefully or respecing anyone (since I'll just have to do it again anyway).

I hope they release the details to the Mid's developers early.

    5 Years later...

I actually have a pretty good story. in 2004 just after the launch of the game, my dad convinced me to make a character which was a lot of fun and I played a bit in Perez with some teams. I thought the gameplay was ok and all, but I hated how long it took to get around. I put it down and was prepared to never come back...

Then my dad said: "if you want to get around faster, why didn't you slot more run into sprint?"

I said "You can DO that!?"

Now clearly I don't slot sprint any more, but at the time, I felt like I had figured out the secrets of the universe! And that was way before I learned that you could get travel powers.

I'm still pretty embarassed that after 14 levels, I dropped on my first characters because I wanted to slot them differently with different powers. It was much later that I learned what a "respec" was.
  20. This is such a fascinating discussion I just had to jump in.

In my case all my characters ARE aware of me. It's one of the premises for my comic. Each character also knows it's a game and that they are just playing it to a degree. It's a curious mix of "the game is real" and "the game is just a game" that I didn't plan. It just sort of ended up that way.

That aside, I know when I've got my pet window open, I can see 5 icons: Attack My Target , Go To , Follow Me , Stay , and Dismiss . However, in the Powers Window, under Basic Pet Commands, the only icons that can be placed in the powers tray are Attack My Target, Follow Me, and Heel.

I've never understood why Dismiss (since it's a major command) or Go To are not available as icons to drag into the power trays. I've either got them set up as macros or keybinds.

My question: has anyone found a slash command to place the actual Dismiss or Go To Power Icons in a tray so that we don't have to use a generic macro button?

I'm surprised that there isn't more personalized customization when it comes to setting up powers with the button icon of your choosing.

Anyway, has anyone found any other tips and tricks when it comes to adding buttons/powers to the tray that aren't selectable from the Powers Window?
I'm dead serious when I say this and mean no insult, but I'm amazed people try to control pets with macros. How do you even have room for them all in your tray?

I use a modified version of this:

Mission Transporter is great, I use it occasionally, but the very slow recharge rate has prompted me to seek other transportation solutions, and most of my toons have a base with enough transporters to allow me to get anywhere pretty quick. But you're right, it is a good solid bonus-pack power that I overlooked.
For Self Destruct, it's a matter of knowing it's value and putting it on a bind. Check this out:

As for Mission teleporter, if you only use it occasionally, you haven't thought of some creative ways to use it. Let me elaborate:

This is a better product than the Party Pack - more content, a more popular type of content, and, as far as I can tell, all new material. The lack of a booster power is no deal-breaker for me because the only really valuable one so far has been Ninja Run - and that one was so valuable that it should really have been offered to everyone to avoid imbalance.

So, GJ devs and marketing. Base items pack, please?

edit: OMG I think that I just agreed with Nethergoat111!!!
Wait, wait... What about self destruct and mission teleporter? Those are both hugely useful!
  25. Without a power, I definitely won't be buying this any time soon unless it's $5 instead of $10. I'd like to see it even cheaper. There are boosters I haven't bought yet because they just aren't worth the money. I wish there was a way to earn points in-game for these or unlock them in-game (even one at a time).

    Look devs! A time-sink idea!

Either way, it's hard to justify the ever increasing add-on costs when it only benefits specific characters here and there. Most of the packs I did buy were ones that benefited EVERYONE on my account (like ninja).

Well, at least Christmas is coming and maybe I'll get a little more money in my "super booster" fund.
