Sorry. The new character from I16:
http://www.cityofheroes.com/goingrog...strom_bio.html
His story (until the end) reads like a mix between the Wolverine and Iron Man movies. It's a good read, but it seems like they would have made more of an effort to not sound so much like another well-known hero.

The comic world is so populated with well worn tropes that it's very hard not to trip over a few. Almost every character has the "It's like character A and character B combined, but with power C instead of D."
This is true for:
CoH/V canon characters
Marvel characters
DC characters
-insert your favorite Indy publisher- characters
-insert character you just made yesterday-
[/ QUOTE ]
I can speak for my own characters as being completely unique. I don't think any of them map to any hero I know of, but your point is valid. Ex. The similarities between Superman and Statesman. But did they have to replace his heart!? Couldn't it have been some other organs instead? That's just a little too Iron Man as far as I'm concerned. -

You DO realise that the story is pretty generic and that Going Rogue is NOT i16, right?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not i16? What is it then? -

It's well written, but isn't Maelstrom's story just a little too close to Iron Man?

The one thing I don't get is how to get the lightweight badges? If you select those, do you auto-exemp down?
[/ QUOTE ]
Correct, if you select a particular weight class you will be auto exemped to the highest level in the weight class.
[ QUOTE ]
Also, did I read right that for the Pentad, I could possibly get the hero badge just by having two characters of the same AT fight against each other? I don't actually have to have a full team of 5 on both sides as long as all ATs come in twos?
[/ QUOTE ]
Correct. I haven't actually tested this, but based on other observations I suspect that you only need at least one person on each team. The only way (I know of) to do this is to get two of the same AT since the arena starts filling up the roster from top to bottom (So to get someone on each team you need two with the same AT so that the second of the AT has to be put on the second team). But as long as you have those two, you can probably fill up the rest of the roster as much/little as you want. 5 against 1, for example, should work.
[/ QUOTE ]
I thought I understood that to be one vs one -
I'm glad I read this post since I'd like to get the badges, but can't seem to figure out how to win in PvP so I stay out of the Arena normally.

Practice practice practice.
[/ QUOTE ]
How does practice help when I can't hit them? I can practice to not hit them better? The stalker walks right through tar patch, quicksand, volcanic gasses and none of my holds or stuns hit or at least last very long. I had darkest night (massive acc debuff) and the troller uses rad debuffs, but it didn't seem to make any difference. -
It seems like every time I fight in PvP, there's always a QR/EM that can stun the poo out of me and I can't hit them or debuff them at all. Once I was in RWZ with a Earth/Rad controller and I was there (a D3 defender). Despite all the massive amounts of debuffs, holds, immob, stun, and two pets, he handily beat us both. Exactly how is someone supposed to PvP against that?
Is it just that stalkers are the enemy type I'm completely unable to defeat? Could I possibly have better luck against another AT? Or are defenders and controllers completely useless in PvP now? -
[ QUOTE ]
Pfft, that's only in PvP. Who cares about PvP, anyway..
[/ QUOTE ]
Really. Every time I go in a PvP zone and try to do anything, there's some QR/EM stalker that I can never hit and never debuff (I play a Dark^3 defender). That being said, what are these rewards they're talking about? What do you get IO recipies for in PVP? Just for killing the enemies around or PvP itself? -
I had heard of the contacts by name (only because their badges were necessary for an accolade) and I can see them in my Ouroboros missions list, but I had no idea that I would NEVER see them in game unless I took the effort to find them. How would I?
It would be nice if there was a contact management ability so I could see which contacts I've been through with my other characters and which I handn't. Of course, if contacts were specific to areas as I suggested here:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat....=0#Post11115949
then this would be a lot easier. -

You don't quite have the durability of a tank, particularly a well-supported tank, but if you're doing things right, you're plenty sturdy enough in most situations. Some foes may be tougher than others (see: Rularuu Overseers), but in small teams, I usually go in first on my Dark Defender.
[/ QUOTE ]
On this note, I wanted to point out the fact that Howling Twilight is an awesome way to start a battle. You kill alpha strikes with it since all the minions will be dazed and wandering around.
Follow with tentacles to root them, darkest night on the tough boss that's resisted the rest, tar patch to lower defense and speed, then take them apart. Yes, Darkies can tank
Except in the shadow shard. You can't hit worth crap and none of your debuffs seem to work either. I abandond the SS until I can get my tank up some levels on my alt account to accompany me there. -
A few things I'd like to add:
If you make a personal supergroup, it becomes easy to transfer to your younger players in the form of IOs. I was able to fully slot my level 10-15 players for only a few million which is nothing to my 50. Store them in the SG enhancement tables, log back in with the given player, equip. Good stuff.
Also, you should try your best to IO equip as soon as you can. Using the tip about buying very low demand items and selling to stores is a good way to make enough money to get some basic IOs early. Even if they're not the "AWESOME SET IOS FROM HEAVEN!" at least you aren't losing enhancement effectiveness as you level. This is especially important early on if you are leveling fast.
Keep track of time. When it's 8am EST, America is only just barely waking up. Even the most die-hard players in the US have gone to sleep on the west coast (5AM). Meanwhile, it's 1PM in the UK. People are still at work during the week and aren't going to be playing. This is an excellent time to buy in the market as the number of bids will be low. This works especially well if you have the ability to get up at 6 or 7 AM as you will beat most of the East-coast'ers to the market as well. Note that this still works on the weekend though there will be some activity from our UK friends busy playing on their weekend day.
To get the best price, find a set of the same recipie/enhancement at about 4 different level ranges (40 down to 37 for example). Set a bid on the 40, then the 39, then the 38, then the 37 all at the same price. While you take the time to set the next bid, the first one might resolve in a buy and you can cancel the others. This way you don't have to sit there waiting to see if the bid takes before making another bid (because you're bidding on a different item). If you don't win any of the bids, up your price starting with the level you really want (40 in this case) and do it again until you get one (or meet your max and have to quit). If you never get the one you want, pick the odd numbered one (like 39 or 38, not multiples of 5) and place your last bid on the item and leave it there for a while.
Lastly, I want to say that I got robbed hardcore because of the 60 day rule several times. I always assumed that was a glitch that they were going to fix. Guess I learned my lesson. -
I want more green. I want vines, moss, creaping ivy. I want my base to look the the inside of a mountain crevasse.

I wrote a really neat character customization guide in case you care to see it. It's at Jordan's Character Customization Guide
The best part is the advanced costuming section that talks about how to modify your costume, text and color scheme all at a single button (binds are included).
I hope you like it -
Great guide, but I noticed that when I throw tentacles on a group and Fearsome stare, the stare becomes pointless because the tentacles keep damaging them so I get attacked. I've been thinking of dropping tentacles in my next respec because of it.
