  1. I won't say you're "wrong" to have your opinion but I don't think it warrants making an additional change to the inherent system to have to choose either Swift or Hurdle.

As for "super", all characters are super, even the natural origin ones. That's why you can get blasted in the face by a shotgun wielding Hellion and keep going or fall off of a building without lying in a broken heap on the street below. Call it training or body armor or whatever you want but even a level one character is above the abilities of any civilian.
  2. I find it amusing that several hundred posts later, the reviewer has yet to acknowledge any flaws in his review and continues to say that he's right, we can never change his mind and we just don't get it.

Good thing he was requesting feedback!

Does that make sense to you?
No, but if the review led me to believe that reviewer couldn't even plug in the Toastinator correctly, much less figure out how to work the settings and spent his review claiming that setting it to "Light" was too hard... I guess him missing the 500-A model would be one more reason to write off his review.

Yeah, it does. Lvl 20 SOs are 80% equivalent to SOs at your current level. Given that the game was based around SOs, you're not really much of a hit to be using lvl 20s and you should be moving into higher level IOs simply by playing the game.

So while the bonus from an IOs cannot be outleveled, you need to replace them anyway because the bonus they give is too small against higher level opponents.
Not really. You could stock up on lvl 25-30 IOs and never switch them out again and be getting at least the same results as you would with replaced SOs each time you hit the appropriate level. You could use lvl 15 IOs and be getting DO enhancements or better. Again, the game isn't really made with the intent that once you hit 25+, you have all SOs as evidenced by the fact that DOs continue dropping into the early 30s.

I played EQ from pre-Kunark to early 2009. It was the same game the whole time -- just more mudflated as time went on. Not that it was a bad game (heck I played it for ten years) but it never really innovated itself.
  6. On a (probably) final note, it seems pretty clear that you didn't discuss GR because you never played it. I'm basing this off your initial server screen showing all green dots and you stating that all the servers are empty. I'm guessing you got your time in before mid-August and never bothered to do anything to include GR at all.

Again, from a reviewer, this is just pure laziness and as good a sign as any that this isn't someone to take seriously.

So you're saying you would take a review seriously that fails to mention the game's latest content?

Well, apparently you and I approach reviews in very different ways. Because you just have a whole lot of rationales for why you didn't have to mention it and I think not mentioning it is just really poor reviewing.

    Quote:
If you watch the review again you will see I was specifically talking about low level IOs and their usefulness. I think you will agree that no amount of set bonuses changes that you need to keep enhancements as close to your character's level as possible in order for the bonuses to keep up with the stats of the NPCs you encounter.
No, I wouldn't agree with that at all. In fact, sets in the low 30's range are often the most valuable because people want to keep their set bonuses when they do lower level team content. Yep indeed, even though those won't be the highest possible numbers when they're doing lvl 50 content, they'd still rather have the lvl 30 enhancements.

Like I said, it's just laziness or lack of understanding. Keep handwaving away why it's okay but it really shines through.

As I explained in my review, the lack of inventory and bank space makes it hard to build those origins yourself, especially when by the time you might have gotten those materials you've probably outleveled those inventor origins, at which point a single origins give more bang for their buck.
I think you're under a couple mistaken impressions. One is that you "deserve" the best stuff at every single level and that if you have to make due with a collection of DOs and SOs instead of all SOs or have some lvl 20 IOs in among your lvl 30 IOs, there's a problem with the game. The second is that you don't know how to manage your inventory space. You keep harping on the lack of inventory so you can't make things. What exactly are you doing with the stuff you have? The whole idea is that you collect stuff as you go along and the stuff that you can make things with, you make things with and the stuff you can't you sell. Salvage for standard IOs is common. If you need the auction house to make lvl 25 Accuracy IOs, you're doing something wrong.

    Quote:
I mean, level 10 inventor origins or level 30 single origins? This isn't hard to understand, is it?
What game are you playing where you're not getting enhancement drops along the way or salvage to make IOs or influence to patch in the holes? Why would it be between a lvl 10 IO and a lvl 30 SO?

Again, I think much of your "issues" with enhancements, the invention system, inventory and the auction house stem from a feeling that you deserve to have the best stuff each level rather than working towards it. It's like saying there's real problems with your stock fantasy MMORPG because I don't get raid level gear at leach level and have to actually slum with this Sword +2 for a couple levels.

What insults? You're asking for feedback and I'm giving it.

Would you take seriously any review that completely neglects the most recent expansion of an MMORPG? If you saw a review for WoW that was made weeks after Cataclysm was released and didn't mention it at all, would you think "Wow, this is a well researched and thought out review"? If I saw a review for a game on a professional site or in a magazine that didn't bother to mention that game's latest content addition, I'd bust out laughing at it.

Did you just not understand set bonuses? You explicitly say in your review that the only reason anyone would want IOs is because they don't go obsolete. This is so wrong it's just ridiculous. It shows either a major misunderstanding of what you're reviewing or just plain laziness that you didn't research or experiment with it.

And that's pretty major stuff, not "nitpicky" stuff. A lot of it just reflects on a lack of getting the hang of things such as your criticisms of the auction system. There's valid criticisms to be made but the fact that you can't just buy whatever you want ready-made for the price you want isn't one of them. Influence is easily made by people who put "research" into their ride up to level 50.

Are those numbers supposed to sound impressive to people who've played the game much longer and spent much more time researching?

No, I don't think they're going to do anything to change your opinion because, honestly, you sound like the type of person who'd spend more time being offended that everyone didn't think his review was the bee's knees and would rather circle the wagons than admit that his work was pretty shoddy in places.

Yet you defend yourself against every criticism and tell us we're off base rather than say "Yeah, maybe I should revisit that" about anything.

I don't know why you'd need feedback when you're already correct about everything
  12. Here's some quick points:

    - First 'cause it's the biggest: Your review sounds very dated. It ignores the Going Rogue expansion which came out weeks ago and made significant changes to the game. Also, since then the servers have been pretty crowded although I'll admit that it'll take a few more weeks to see how that holds up as people's free months give out. Also, in the next major patch we're getting the Fitness pool as inherent powers but that was just announced so you wouldn't know. Still, there's no excuse for missing Going Rogue which was announced a year ago and released weeks ago. It's like reviewing any other MMORPG and ignoring its most recent content additions.

    - Complaining about 3 starting inventory slots is ridiculous since you don't even begin getting salvage drops until level 5 or recipe drops until level 10. The initial slots exist pretty much entirely so you can create "inventable" costume items such as rocket boots or tech wings. But you slap across the screen "Only 3 slots!" as though its a liability and neglect to mention that you gain more slots on a regular basis as you level.

    - You don't mention the invention system except to mention that they don't go obsolete. Did you even mention set bonuses? I missed it if you did. It's also easy to get invention origin enhancements just in the course of playing the game and using the stuff that drops. Spending tens of thousands of influence on a lvl 25 Damage IO is just crazy and the only reason to do it is because you're already rich or because you're lazy.

Others hit some of the other points and I'm not getting paid enough to be your editor.
  13. I started typing some point by point remarks but ultimately I guess my answer is that this was a very shallow review that missed a lot of stuff and made some pretty questionable criticisms. You make some valid points as well but, to be honest, the review itself felt pretty dated and felt as though it was made by someone who rushed through the game and failed to get into some pretty basic aspects of it.
  14. If you are bored, I'll let you draw Scarlet Finch

City of Heroes is already easy. No reason for it to be easy and tedious.
  16. Getting Fitness as an inherent is great. I don't even really care if we don't get more slots. I'll just use my one-slotted "extra" powers on prerequisite things such as Aid Other that I wasn't going to slot anyway or other powers that really don't need extra slotting. Heck, even three extra unslotted powers are... well, three more powers than I used to have.
  17. Congratulations on the new computer! It's always good times to get a sizable upgrade and suddenly feel like everything is running quicker and smoother.
  18. I'm trying my -nth tank after a bunch of failed attempts. It's not just the "don't do damage" that I dislike, it's that when you're soloing you don't do anything. Or at least nothing active. Yeah, my controller sucked for damage as well until she was in her 30's but at least I had buttons to push for holds, debuffs, etc. With my tanks, I'm just idly tapping the same two-three slow attacks and whittling down some Lt's hitpoints.

I played a Peacebringer once for about an hour (lvl 8? 10?) Wasn't in love but was giving it a chance until my first radio mission where I hit a Quantum who immediately sprayed my glowing squid jelly all over the sewer walls. Said "Nuts to this" and deleted.

    Ninja Run combo

Another vote for Hurdle. I think the speeds of NJ+Hurdle/Swift are both close enough these days but I like hurdle's vertical movement buff for mission zones where you wind up hopping up stacks of boxes or up to rails, etc to get a glowie or find that last kill-all mob.

I'm looking at you, Cargo Ship maps...
  20. Yes.

Edit: See bottom of page where it says "Trial includes..."
  21. If I'm making a "true" hero or villain, I start in their appropriate old zone. I've been using Praetoria as a shortcut to side-switch without waiting until 20 to start doing Tips if I make a villain knowing he'll play blueside or vice versa.
  22. So you're the guy who took lt 01101001 01110100!

    Post a Character

    Minaret, my new Shield/Mace tanker

A Saracen warrior from the 13th century, Minaret stumbled across a cave leading to a tomb filled with treasure. Thinking to move it to safety before the European Crusaders found and looted it, he collected the riches. Unfortunately for him, this triggered a curse from a ring among the treasure and he was bound to the tomb, unable to die and attain paradise. He can still be wounded and even "die" temporarily but he continues to come back to life and be denied eternity in heaven. Recently, archeologists with MAGI uncovered his tomb and were able to free him from the cave although the ring remains bound to him, locking him into life. He is assisting MAGI now partially out of gratitude and partially because he still hopes to one day free himself of the curse and pass from this world into the next.

Ok, so most of that was handwaved stuff after I saw the name open and decided to try and make a character around it.
  24. I tend to open windows like Maps only as I'm using them and then close them immediately. Here's my layout:

Bar #1 (on the bottom) is my most often used powers (usually attacks or primary control set), Bar #2 (on the side) is travel powers including portals, temps and other stuff I don't need immediate access to and #3 (next to inspirations) is usually my secondary set and non-travel pool powers including toggles. Obviously I'm flexible as required depending on the archtype and power set.

Stuff I rarely ever use or there's never any rush such as the tarot card power gets popped into Tray 9 (as in I cycle back from Tray 1 to get to it).
