I personally don't care if we get them or not except for how they fill other desired needs (military add-ons, steampunk, etc). I've never been one to dream of playing a Carnie or Freakshow. But I still see progress
Forgot Sky Raiders in my "military stuff" groups. Just assume anyone with the various military/spec-ops pouches, holsters, sheathes, and other attachments is someone I want. -
Well, the conversation has moved from IF we should get NPC costumes to WHICH of the NPC costumes they're going to work on. I'd call that progress.
Another vote for the Malta/KoA/5th/PPD military gear with pouches, holsters, sheathes, headsets, etc. That'd be a good two-birds-one-stone move since people have been asking for those costume components for ages. -

I ran the cape mission at lvl 50, got a lvl 49 Accuracy TO as a reward at the end and slotted it into Brawl just 'cause. I think it gives me a whopping 9% bonus or something.

He posted in the comments section on MMORPG and didn't confirm that he was let go but he didn't deny it either rather saying he wanted to make clear that he wasn't the leak. I think it's safe to say that if he was still employed by Paragon Studios, he'd have said so.

Anything that can attack me unprovoked should grant me xp when I kill it. Rikti portal spawns, Tuatha pets, whatever. I don't care if people were xp grinding off of them before, find some other way to handle it than expecting me to fight a half dozen non-reward giving yellow con mobs just because some other idiot was abusing it.

Quote:Yay! Glad you like Rose's reasons for being in Paragon City. One of my favorites that I've seen on someone else is on Rose Veldt, one of Jophiel's characters - Rose is a big game hunter who became legit by registering as a hero to help with Paragon City's giant monster problems.
My personal favorite of my own is The Lounge Crooner. It sounds (to me) like something you'd see a TV series have for a plot; each week having an adventure for one more piece of the puzzle...
Quote:Her name was Lola. She was a showgirl.
But she was also a covert military agent looking for the right person. You see, Lola was working on an implantable aural frequency device which could convert sound into a tangible force, able to break through objects and knock men flat. But she needed the right wavelengths to properly condense and transform into a weapon.
When Lola heard Rodney "Starry" Knight singing at the Twin Pines in upstate New York, she knew she found her voice. Rodney agreed to the experiment after Lola promised him a permanent gig at the Atlas Park Geneva Hotel in Paragon City once the project was complete. But now Lola's missing, no one knows where she's gone and Rodney is going to need to find Lola and bring her home if he ever wants to make it big. -
After re-re-specing and selling off the Kinetic Combats, I have a six slot of Mako's and am working on Touch of Death plus some more assorted frankenslotting and Weave. At lvl 39, I have 46% Ranged defense and 43% to Melee/AoE. Deflection & Battle Agility can both take another slot to top out their defense and that'll put me at/over the softcap for my positionals (45%, right?).
I've been running some missions at x6 or x8 and having a good time of it. Also been tanking in teams and feeling pretty damn superpowered. Have some nice screenshots of the Kronos Titan ineffectually shooting me in the faceThanks for the advice in this and the other thread -- tanking has been a lot more enjoyable than I expected.
-
That's already slated to be my lvl 38 power choice.
I'm slowly collecting some Makos, ToD's and the PBAoE sets but I'm not about to throw down all that cash at one time just yet so I've been getting them either as lucky "inexpensive" deals or as drops/rolls. -
I was fiddling with Mids and entered in where I'm at right now. I'm actually fairly happy with it but if anyone sees a glaring issue, I'm interested in hearing it.
My character is a work in progress so I still have some SOs yet to be replaced, etc.

'Cause Lounge Crooner is awesome and I can vote for whatever capricious reason I want, drama be damned. -
I do this all the time. Or did until I ran out of character slots on Virtue.
I'm so tickled to find an awesome name available on Virtue* that it's almost always a catalyst for making a character. Although the name itself is usually enough to spark some concept of AT, powers and general look even if I don't have a biography ready to go.
*This isn't to spark another naming debate. Suffice to say "awesome name in my sole opinion using my sole criteria". -
Way back in the day on a 3rd party Everquest site, people were talking about the "new" MMORPGs coming out... Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, etc. Someone linked to an early City of Heroes site saying "I'm just waiting for THIS!". I remember the top had some animated scroll of different characters and the whole thing was very primative looking but fascinating at the same time. I'm not a big comics/superhero fan but the idea of playing a new MMORPG that wasn't fantasy oriented was also interesting (especially with the bomb that was AO). I wasn't compulsive or anything and didn't try to beta it but I followed along for the year or two until the game was released and picked it up. Been playing on and off since then; originally switching back and forth with other games but for now I'm pretty much rooted to CoH. Compared to the early days, it's really a golden age for the game.

I was the same way. I was all jazzed up about the theme and then it turned out I had an obligation that night. Then when I got home with maybe enough time to squeeze in, I had to download a patch. Oh well... had fun last night!

Quote:Yeah, but having to do so for SOs at 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and then 50 adds up. Casually, I usually just craft IOs as they drop and don't go out of my ay to acquire them. Even with my lack of effort, I'm usually at 60%+ IOs by lvl 40 which is a pretty decent savings at the SO shop. Characters I'm more into, I do the whole set IO/frankenslot thing.See, this I'm not sure of. I just loaded a 50's 2nd build from no SOs to all SOs for a few million
I've noticed that many people who hate the whole IO thing also don't tend to buy/sell at Wentworth's either, instead dumping their recipes on a vendor (sob) so they're unlikely to finance their SOs with a Crushing Impact sale. -
Quote:I don't see how this is any more complicated than "Because I don't like it". You're asking for opinions, right? I mean, you can put anything into the game that you want under the banner of "It's a choice". High fantasy zones? Throw 'em in. Rubber bicycle horn melee? Go for it. Tanks give a girlish shriek when hit? Of course! Unicorn mounts? You know it. Tickle Defenders? No reason not to.Now, I find myself having to address this again, but I keep seeing people saying "No! Don't want that here!" Why?
But given that the development team has limited resources and time, I'd rather they not spend it making things I think look silly when they could be making things I think look awesome.
Quote:Granted, something that's TOO ludicrously big, like a car on a stick, would indeed be silly as a persistent weapon -

Quote:Carnival mallet is pretty large. And the Nemesis rifle #2 (the one with the bayonet) is pretty ridiculously large -- enough so that I almost never use mine except for special costumes. But we have no big guns, we have one big sword, we have one TANGIBLY big axe, no big enough hammers, no big rifles...
Except I think you want even larger weapons which I guess means we're going to disagree on this one. -
Quote:Good input. I was half wondering why it was so expensive so maybe a respec is in order soon to unslot them and sell them for better (for me) IOs. I need to get rid of Kick for Boxing anyway... I foolishly thought Kick wouldn't force redraw (hey, the kick animation for Brawl doesn't!)You've gotten a lot of good suggestions, but I just want to mention that although Kinetic Combat is a great set, it's much better for typed def than positional, and I think it would be wasted in a Shield tank. Six slots of Touch of Death gives 3.75% melee defense, compared to 1.88% for Kinetic Combat.
As you probably know, some of the KC pieces are extremely valuable, so IMO it would make more sense to either hold onto them and use them in a typed defense character, or sell them to fund the purchase of your other IOs.
Thanks to everyone else as well. I'm getting some good ideas from all of this. -
I think this is essentially the same as the "gun ninjas vs cowboys" (or whatever it was called) debate from a week or two ago. If you lean more towards "realistic" superheroing then you're probably somewhat against automobile sized swords and guns made out of storm sewer pipes. If you lean more towards the "It blew up real big!" mindset then that sort of thing may appeal to you more.
I'm personally more of the former than the latter and enjoyed the more refined equipment styling of an older, first generation fantasy MMORPG to the over the top silliness in a later, widely popular game. -
If you have Going Rogue and are playing a hero/villain (as opposed to vig/rogue), alignment merits from the GR tips missions are a great way to either make money or get expensive IOs. I've been doing rare rolls (1 merit for 5 random rare recipes) and sometimes it's a bust but also have gotten stuff to sell for 50mil+ a pop or things I can use that would have cost me 50-100mil influence.
Beats the "reward" from radio missions, that's for sure. -
Hi folks. As I posted in an earlier thread, I have started a Shield/WM tank and am enjoying it more than I would have thought, having abandoned most tank attempts before lvl 10 due to low damage and sluggish soloing. Now, at level 35, I'm able to take some decent sized spawns and feeling like an actual tank. I'm pretty closely following Garthalus's "Block 'n Bash" SD/WM guide but am figuring out slotting as I go. At level 35, I have (from memory) 36.x % defense to melee and 33.x % defense to AOE/Ranged. My only set bonuses are a set of 4 Kinetic Combat (got lucky on merit rolls) for +1.875% Melee and the Steadfast +3% universal Def.
I'm not asking for a build so much as suggestions of which IO sets I should be looking out for if any to help give my Defense that final push. I don't usually slot for set bonuses on most characters unless it's +Recharge (prefering to frankenslot) so I'm having a little trouble balancing the value of the actual IOs vs their set bonuses. I can and will play with Mids but a little direction and input can't hurt.
