Men's Classic Steampunk gloves can take two colors.
Men's Classic Steampunk Boots can only be colored one color.
This makes no sense. You can't even match the color schemes between the two supposedly matching costume pieces. -

I'm not 100% on the legs/boots but I love the top half of this costume:

It seems trivial to create a character who shoots fire or freezes things in ice or whatever by use of SCIENCE! In a thread in the art/screen shots forum, someone made a SS scrapper who uses steam powered metal arms to pummel things. I went and, in playing around, made this sonic blaster:
-
Playing around, making an explorer/space airship sort of guy...
Trying to go for a closed helmet look gave me this rather menacing character...
I'll admit that I'm not a huge fan of the steampunk guns since they just seem pointless. They already had working guns in that era, after all. Hopefully they'll eventually make them tintable since, ironically, they'd make better pulp 50's Sci-Fi blasters than they do steampunk firearms if only you could color them something besides gray and brown. -
I might have found a fire blaster I like in Prairie Blaze.
Sadly, we have no bonnets or straw hats. -
I have no idea what the technology/technique was to do the Organic faces or the Clockwork faces but both seem to look superior to the Steampunk faces. If I was able to use Organic without the "organic" bits or if the basic clockwork face was available as a flesh option, I would use them all the time.
The only alterations I made on these was to add lipstick to the female clockwork. But there's a night and day difference between the organic/clockwork faces and the steampunk ones and I far prefer the look of the former. -
Three more and you have a barbershop quartet. As it is, he's more of a one man band...
Edit: Doh! Forgot his bow tie! -

Thanks for the feedback, Z.
To consolidate my feedback in rough order of personal opinion (most-least):
(1) Jackets should follow the "Jacket - Chest/Shirt - Tie" method all the other jackets use. We already have tie options for wide ties and for bow ties so there's no good reason to force them on us if we don't want to use a tie.
(2) All parts should be tintable whenever possible without a base color heavily limiting the color options. Some baked in shading is fine (like the already in game Steampunk armor) but forced colors (steampunk backpack) are not. If I hit white, it should at least be in the spectrum of white. Pieces like the guns should be tinatable beyond the tiny bit of handle
(3) Jackets should all have sleeveless options
Actually, I'd be happy with just that. I do like the concept of the pack and the artwork, it's just the limitations that arise as you play with it that seem as though they could have been done a little differently from the start that take the shine off the pack. -
Pirate costume is awesome.
Also, from the Test Server forum's thread...
Quote:So go ahead and post suggestions there to weigh the scales if you're so inclined. Thanks for all of the compliments and kind words.
We've made a compilation of the feedback you have all provided and are in the process of reviewing it with the art production team. While any changes or updates we make won't be present at launch, we will implement them as soon as it's possible to do so, much like we did with the Animal Pack.

Quote:The spiked belt produces some nifty studs as well along the bottom although it tends to clip through during combat animations. I used it on my hooded Thief-lookin' guy earlier.1. Spiked collar with vest produces collar studs - for that Starfleet officer look! I should have tried it with a red shirt..
Quote:The only possible outcome you can be aiming for with the argument that it's better to not have customizability is to keep ME from getting the colour I want to use which is different from the colour you feel I should be using. That is not polite. That is petty, thoughtless and irresponsible, no matter how passive-aggressive you try to make it sound. -

I'm not entirely sure where I was going with this but this is where I ended up

Quote:I honestly doubt it'll be changed at this point. That said, I commented in the feedback threads as well.I'd rather see the conversations about the coloring limitations in the feedback thread. Not because it is ruining this thread, but because I'd rather see all effort expressing this stuff and pointing it out and opinions and stuff actually put into avenues that are more likely to be read and possibly influence the artists.
-
That's honestly kind of sad that you think allowing things to be tintable "changes the definition of the pack" and you'd rather see people given less options than stop clinging to some bizarre notion of steampunk purity.

Quote:This is like saying the eagle head shouldn't be tintable blue because there aren't any blue headed eagles and "blue" isn't a defining eagle head color. And no one should try using the eagle head for anything else because it says "Eagle", darn it and so that's what it is.then don't use the steampunk pack for that character. Same as i wouldn't use the animal head pack if i was making a human character.
Quote:I'm just saying steampunk is a very definable look, for it to be a steampunk pack it has to look steampunky, to then change it to look like something else, it stops being a steampunk pack. -
Quote:I would stay away from pre-set colors as much as possible, just as most pieces stay away from it. There's a perfectly usable array of colored dots in the gray tones and brass/gold colors for those who want to use them. What's the point of setting base colors in everything aside from limiting costume applications?can i just ask, without any connotation other than my own curiosity, what colours 'would' you expect a steampunk pack to be?
I would, for example, expect medieval armor to be steel colored. But if someone has a reason to want it to be bright yellow... why not? And why stop them? Nothing's stopping you in the case of the medieval armor in game but you can't say the same for this pack. -
