    hehe

Definitely thank you to all that could make it. It was my first time at that TF *extends condolences to all the repeatedly killed players* and yes, it was definitely a fun ride. I couldn't get passed Reichsman looking so much like M. Bison from SF2 though "Psycho Crusher!"...it made me do a double take on what game I playing. Thanks again for setting this up VexXxa!

I do believe you're being too nitpicky here JK.
It may be a more precise understanding of the rules and if you want to reduce my opinion or thoughts to being "nitpicky" I am OK with that, but never the less...a fair point was made. In regards to the Shia piece, if based on a "written explanation" would justify the babe rule...all Shia had to say was that on the way out of the pool Mako bit the foot off a female swim coach and flung it into the pool - problem solved. So again, I never said I didn't like the works I mentioned...in fact I liked them all for different reasons. And I am super excited for next month! Good luck all!!!
  4. Nice work guys! The expression and coloring on the face are really nice Swanzy.

I was curious though, with the previous (heated) discussion about the rules and I definitely don't want to add more heartburn, but...

"2. Use City of Heroes/Villains Characters- This is, afterall, a CoX Fan Art competition, so I expect you guys to keep that in mind. If there's nothing relating to City of Heroes/Villains in your entry, you will be disqualified."

...did that literally mean using CoH characters/critters/etc? It could be argued, why didn't I or anyone else at the very beginning point this out earlier, but since a good chunk has come in the last day or even final hours it was hard to point out some potential "gray" area until it just came in.

My point, while I really like LD's and Swanzy's pieces, both fall into somewhat gray area in my mind. I mean, LD's had a nice explanation, but honestly nothing about it screams CoX. Yes it is a pasty white female character, but aside from a faint reference to dark eye patches I don't see it as Ghost Widow (and I wouldn't have had it was not for the written explanation). I had the same reaction to Scooter's - sorry. Conversely, Frozen Death did an ice skating theme as well, and there is absolutely NO question as to those characters being from CoX. And then there's Swanzy, which is very cool, but is it assumed that a superhero/heroine is instantly CoX specific? Aside from the costume being similar to what one could make with the CoH costume editor, there are no clear CoH references. And finally, there is CR's piece that makes me think of a game like Everquest or WoW which is more of a fantasy based game. Again, a nicely drawn piece, but the only reference to CoH is being a questionable fire imp (I think).

Anyways, I know it is not my call and I had refrained from the previous drama of Shia's piece. But if it was necessary to be a stickler on that one, then in all fairness, these should be pointed out too.
  5. Ya...I am so bad with the TF names...sorry to mess ya up Vex lols. Either one works though (Dr Kahn is the contact - near the train in Founder's Falls). So are we shooting for something around 5 or 6 PM PST?
  6. Happy Friday!

    Nice vid VexXxa. lols
  7. Very cool! I said the same thing on your dA page, but I really dig the refined sketch/drafting style of this piece. The cool blues and the fiery orange coloring adds a lot too.
  8. Take care - I enjoyed your work too!
  9. Welcome back TA. Hope things get better for ya.

As for the typos or grammatical errors CR points out, I wouldn't worry about it too much...

  10. Pyro - I like the clean graphic style (and you can't go wrong with boobs )

Shia - hehe...I dig the humor, although I cringed a little at the crotch bandage on the Russian.
  11. I like the originality of this layout LD and the gestural qualities along with the colors work very well together!

Hehe...ok ok, but to nitpick the nitpick since this seems to be spiraling already...I did say "here" as in specifically the "Screenshots and Fan Creations"...you technically only referenced one RL thread from said section. So again, it would be reasonably feasible that not all in this particular thread would know the full extent of a RL reference. Nor does exacting criticism make for a "technically" good criticism or for that matter does writing a wall of text distilling down every line stroke translate to someone having the "cojones" to write their thoughts.

In other words, some people just like to hear themselves talk. Or in this case...see their own banter written down to stir the pot. Which is, I hate to say in this case, seems to be the later...because CR, if you really were practicing what you preached, you would have fixed the tang glow orange around your avatar months ago on the lower lefthand side where a darken black smudge is (around the left ear and cheek from the viewer's perspective)...just sayin' And since your initials are CR...OCR just won't do.

PS - still waiting on your critique of my work CR!

The thing is, this version of Bayani I've worked on over the past five odd years is tailor-fitted to mesh into City of Heroes' canon. I think if you review Thor's Assassin's wiki you could consider him to be practically in a different sphere at this point. Batman/Superman are in the same universe (the DC one) with a (somewhat) consistent set of "rules" that apply to everyone. As the creator of Bayani, I didn't feel there was any way I could see/write/participate/approve of a story involving a "real" encounter between the two characters. This particular picture was more satirical than anything else and works for me because of that. The direction I've been trying to stick to with my gallery is to collect images that would build Bayani's story/universe.
There's always the "What If..." Marvel series that could theoretically justify this...I mean if Howard the Duck and the X-Men could team-up...just sayin'.

Lols...pats me on the head...um, ok kiddo. But, he simply pointed out a "homage" shot reference which itself was an homage shot that was not actually referenced. So ya, I didn't want to assume people knew (you know what they say about assumptions)...and it's scary to think about how many people here were not even able to read in 1990.
  15. Man o' man CR...I can't even imagine what you see in clouds or ink blots. Speaking of which, you could probably make a small fortune in reading tea leaves or something.

CR shall no longer stand for Christopher Robin in my mind...it shall now stand for (overly) "Critical Replies"
  18. LOLS!...makes me think of what Bayani would look like if Rob Liefeld got a hold of him. (this is somewhat of an inside joke, but for those of you that don't know Rob...he was HUGE in the early to mid-90's and more or less fell out of favor as fast as he rose...and he was notorious for "gadgets and excessive gear" for all his costumes. The most funny being gun designs that look like vacuum cleaners or mysterious gun stocks popping out from behind the shoulders with no guns attached...lols. He did establish the look for Cable from the X-Men, but that's not Cable's fault. )

C'mon... A gal kills herself to look fashionable even while fighting crime by wearing high heeled boots and when she fnally gets a chance to take them off (and put herself through a different kind of torture) you expect her to put them away neatly?? She obviously just kicked off her boots and plunked down to crack open the books!

But yeah... The one mostly off screen... Heh, that does totally have a pumpkin face shaded in there!

Still cannot even make myself see how the other looks like a wood duck.. Though I suppose I can see how the upper boot could be mistaken for paper... by a doofus.
I have agree Caemgen. You smokin' wacky tobacky there CR before you get on the forums?

There really isn't much to say on the flip side here it's a great piece and nothing major is lacking... that said there are a few minor things I would point out.

    1. The arrow is a flat "3 point" style bolt in panels 1,2,4, and 5 but is a rounded "minaret" style bolt in panel 3.

    2. The head of the arrow is completely buried in the target in panels 6 and 7 but there appears to be almost no damage to it... like the target swallowed the whole head (this is sounding dirty even more dirty ) and not just the tip and then somehow closed it's self over it. If it's a minaret style there should be a large puncture hole and if its a flat head there should be a noticeable sold line extending in opposite directions to show where it punched through or if it wasn't that hard of an impact then the tips of the 2 "back points" should be protruding slightly.

    3. The bow's cable guard (the metal rod that goes across the strings) is above the knocking point in panel 1 but then is suddenly below the knocking point in panel 2

    4. Any sign of the note is missing in the THWOOK panel. If the arrow was blurred I could see it be missing but since the arrow is in focus and the dip of the W is not big enough to cover it we should see it or if it's wrapped around the shaft (is there any way to talk about archery without sounding dirty lol) there should be two vertical lines on the shaft at the leading and trailing edge of the note... it would be subtle but that would be more consistent with the other panels.

    5. The phone digits are backwards (hey I said this was nitpicking lol) it should be xxx-xxx-xxxx (3- 3- 4) instead of xxx-xxxx-xxx (3- 4- 3-)

    6. I thought it was Synapse that was the super non-stop lady chaser and Manticore had been in love with and married Chalice/Sister Psyche and was totally a one woman man... he even turned down a potential 3-way with two hot sisters (Borea and Levantera) in the comic no less. Umm maybe he is luring out a potential witness to a crime or something? Yeah that'll work to expla... oh wait she's a psychic... never mind he's totally hosed.

Like I said though... a few small details (and one personality stretch), otherwise a very solid piece and bonus points for tackling a subject that is challenging for you. Great job man.

P.S. I totally lol'd at the dude in the green shirt who raised an eyebrow as he noticed the note... wait you don't suppose it's for him do you???? The cameras perspective puts the note right on his chest... oh man that would make for an interesting read next time she is in his head.

P.P.S. It occurs to me that my critiquing may bite me in the a$$ this year as I plan to compete as well.
CR...just wow man lols. While I might notice a different arrow head style (MAYBE), but to know the differences between the two and how they leave a mark on the target is um, just very impressive...analytical...or as some might say anal (I figured you might like that "dirty" word more).

I liked Juggy's composition and layout quite abit...regardless of the mechanics of archery. I believe the term in comics is "suspension of disbelief"...therefore, if it looks cool then the science behind it takes a backseat.
  21. I haven't been able to play much lately...I hope all is well with the forum group. If anyone has something planned for this weekend, try and post it here or on the hero thread please.
